I'm so, so, so psyched right now. I might cry I'm so happy.
Posted by: haplo at October 1, 2006 05:03 PMWhy, I think this calls for an adult beverage.
Posted by: Kurtis at October 1, 2006 05:03 PMI've been so worried today about the division crown, I'm on my 123rd New Glarus Spotted Cow...
THANK YOU ROYALS!! You guys showed you've got it in you. See ya next season. Until then, you all are heroes!

This is pretty much the best thing ever.
Posted by: Spacey Stacey at October 1, 2006 05:09 PMAre you freakin' kidding me!??!!
It just feels like there is magic dust floating around this team, like there is someone very special watching over them.
Thank you Twins, Thank you Kirby I will be telling my son about this season for the rest of his life.
Are you kidding me the Twins are division Champs!
I love this team!
I'll be in Oakland rooting them on and I hope the Twins win it in 3.
WIN TWINS!
Posted by: cal at October 1, 2006 05:14 PMDear Kurtis,
Yes...I believe it does.
Cheap champagne isn't good enough for this one.
I'm breakin' out the good stuff!!

Posted by: bubblemint at October 1, 2006 05:24 PMThe Minnesota Twins: Your 2006 American League Central CHAMPS!
I was tearing up as Gobble Gobble was sending down the Tigers in the 12th. Now I have a lump in my throat thinking about Kirby. He's watching over 'em, you know he is!
Bring on OAKLAND and let's renew that oh-so-fun rivalry!
Gobble gobble, indeed.
Click my name for a brief graphical synopsis on today's battle for the batting title.
Posted by: Eric at October 1, 2006 05:29 PMWhoa, it looks like the BG logo on the site kicked it into Bat-ninja mode for the playoffs. I like it.
Posted by: Eric at October 1, 2006 05:34 PMi just got back from the most incredible experience i'll ever have at the metrodome.. WHOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Posted by: margin at October 1, 2006 05:42 PMI heart Mr. Gobble. My favorite thing about him? His given name is Billy James Gobble, prompting me to refer to him as Billy Jimmy. "Billy," I chided today, "get him OUT. Don't...what is that, Billy? A walk? God almighty, Billy Jimmy. Throw a strike. Billy Jimmy...ball in play...out(s) recorded...I LOVE YOU BILLY JIMMY!"
Posted by: Erin at October 1, 2006 05:45 PMWhat a gutty series for a team that has nothing to win ... except respect. Wow.
Posted by: jamar1700 at October 1, 2006 05:48 PMBEST CROWD EVER. I was there and it was just...the community, the love. The cheering, the ovations. Couldn't have been more perfect.
Honestly, hanging out there with everyone watching that game, and the Twins hanging out in the dugout reacting the same way we were...amazing.
Posted by: L. at October 1, 2006 05:53 PMThere is a permanent smile on my face right now. My cheeks are going to hurt soon. Thanks a million to the Landed Gentry boys.
As much as I was hoping the Royals would sweep today, I kept telling people that the chances were slim. Like, Nicole Richie slim. But when you have a little help from above, anything is possible. Thanks Puck.
Posted by: Shelley at October 1, 2006 05:57 PMCongrats guys!
(At least you guys can spend all of October biting your nails instead of me)
Ilk
Posted by: Ilk at October 1, 2006 06:01 PMThat was crazy.
We finished the season having been in sole possession of first place for one day. But what a day to do it.
I remember well when the only fun thing about the Twins was making Tony Batista or Rondell White jokes. Now they're the central division champs. Crazy.
Posted by: Will at October 1, 2006 06:02 PMWe all oughta pitch in and get the Royals some playoff tickets!
just kiddin, what... do you think I'm made of money? It would be a nice gesture though. Maybe Terry Ryan will ship a few their way.
Posted by: TX Ken at October 1, 2006 06:04 PMOh, MY!!!!! Let me just say, for those not privileged enough to experience that at the Dome, XM is worth its weight in gold.
At the very least, someone should call the Royals and buy an honorary season ticket from the Gentry.
This is justincredible...
And someone who was at the Dome needs to provide a description for those of us who weren't there. Please.
Posted by: twinsprof at October 1, 2006 06:17 PMI just got back from today's game. As my brother said, it's going to be days before I even get used to what happened today. Oh, yeah, we won the division! Oh, yeah, Mauer won the batting title! Oh, yeah, Detroit got swept by the Royals AT HOME! Oh, yeah, Silva pitched well exactly when it counted!
Oh man. I have never in my life had an experience like that, standing and screaming with 45,000 people (most of whom stayed to watch the KC/Det game!), watching the Twins watching from the dugout, and then watching the dogpile on the field after. The players sprinting around to high-five the fans. Joe Nathan and Mike Redmond walking out onto the field with their kids. Torii grabbing a microphone and screaming unintelligibly. As I cried and screamed and jumped for joy, I thought:
It doesn't get any better than this.
Posted by: Mel at October 1, 2006 06:23 PMThank you, Kenny Rogers. If I closed my eyes, it was 1999 all over again... only this time, I didn't want to slit my wrists.
Congratulations, Twins and Twins fans. Hope to see you in the Series!!! (And now... Let's Go Tigers!! Kick some Yankee a$$!!!)
Posted by: LaurieNY at October 1, 2006 06:26 PMAll hail The Landed Gentry . . . the best last place team EVER!
Posted by: funoka at October 1, 2006 06:42 PMGreat graphic Eric, recommended for all.
Something about Jeter's look that tells it all.
Mauer's - simply deserving joy!
I'm going to give Jimmy "Gobble" Gobble a standing ovation next season the first time he pitches in the Metrodome! I love the Royals! I love Jimmy Gobble! I love my Twins!
Posted by: kafumbly at October 1, 2006 07:20 PMthis was a nail biter, cardiac and ulcer started all in one. Wahoooo!!!

I truly believe that even a World Series game could not have been more exciting. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
Posted by: Mel at October 1, 2006 07:41 PMYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Joyous comment board, everyone! Truly, a magical ride we're on! Let's keep rolling!
i always thought i had some kind of fondness for the Royals. oh, & Jimmy Gobble - i hope we acquire him next year....
Posted by: dfb at October 1, 2006 10:20 PMThank you from the bottom of my heart, Landed Gentry.
I gotta say, it was so cool to be out wandering around the Renaissance Festival and hearing people buzz about the game. Half the workers were keeping tabs on the game in a decidedly non-Renaissance fashion, as was I. How exciting to be able to tell people that Detroit had lost, that Mauer was the batting champ, that we were number one! Man. I know it's been said a million times, but this season is magical.
Posted by: FH at October 2, 2006 07:53 AMYesterday evening, I said, "Well, I hope somebody sends a freaking huge box of chocolates to the Royals!"
I heard a rumor this morning on the radio the Twins sent them a case of bubbly. Excellent! Hope it's true.
Wow. Wow!! I can't get over the scrappy determination and heart it took for them to go to Detroit and SWEEP. Unreal. Supernatural.
Thank you, KC--and thank you, Kirby.
