In that spirit, RD thinks Bartlett Jason (BJ) Batbaby would be a fine name, speaking to both athletic and intellectural prowess. It would be even better than Davis Ron (Doc) Batbaby.

So it can be done, though being in lunatic territory up there in Boston may make it tough. In any case, savor every moment - and choose Kirby as a name, regardless of the child's gender. I think that'd be a beauty.

As for names, you know very well that no matter what you name him/her, you're just going to end up calling her/him "Boof" as a nickname... and then he/she will some day legally change the name to Boof... so you might as well just make it official "right out of the box" (so to speak).

As someone whose oldest child attended his first baseball game at 18 months ... and a World Series game at age 3 (several friends have still not forgiven me, tho I reject the charge that the ticket was 'wasted.') ... many congrats. Parenthood is a blast. Except for coaching t-ball, which can lead to insanity.

As for positions, let me add one slight nuance to the 'catcher' suggestion made by many: left-HITTING catcher. Scouts will drool.
