B.O.D.

Okay, it turns out it takes about 2.5 hours to get to Fenway from here, including waiting for ten minutes at the little toll plaza, and about an hour and 45 minutes to get home, and about three extremely wet hours to watch the Twins move within a half of a game of first place. During those three hours, one might see many things, like Jason Bartlett's second very timely three run home run of the season, Torii Hunter getting his revenge on Fenway by sending one over the Green Monster, and, best of all, Justin "Doctor" Morneau going 5 for 5 with two runs, two doubles, and a RBI, and as the BODSHC once proclaimed, you go 5 for 5, you pretty much get to be the Boyfriend of the Day.

You know, I'm watching BBTN, and I'm about to break my tv. The crew is discussing the Twins being behind the Tiggers by 1/2 game. And then Karl turns to Tino and says, "It's almost like when Lirano got hurt, they said that they aren't losing. What's happened?" And Tino gives this gem- "Well..they are hitting and they are pitching."

To Karl's comment- What, you expect them to cry and give up because Liriano got hurt? You mean there's other people on this team not named Santana that can flat out play?

To Tino's comment- Well duh! It's kinda hard to win w/o pitching or hitting!

I swear...BBTN has gone way down hill since Gammons and Reynolds are gone. I can't stand ESPN.

Posted by: jdn9201 at September 19, 2006 11:13 PM

I never really liked Reynolds...but Gammons is sorely missed. He was great on that show.

Also...again, I say, it's impressive that the entire field and Morneau are about tied. Testament to his season.

Posted by: Josh at September 19, 2006 11:14 PM

maybe this will finally show "red sox nation" that there are other people more deserving of MVP than ortiz. because ortiz didn't go 5 for 5...

but great game! it looks like justin's giving mauer a run for his batting title!

Posted by: Hannah! at September 19, 2006 11:16 PM

darn tootin'.

Posted by: haplo at September 19, 2006 11:18 PM

Going 5 for 5 is hot.

Anything Bartlett does well is hot.

Torii's 27th dinger over the Green Monster is hot, 'specially if it's revenge for it devouring his foot last season.

Mauer staying ahead of the Pansy-Ass is definitely hot.

Garza stepping up again... hot.

Staying ahead of the Bitchsox and being a half game behind the Tigers. PRICELESS!

Posted by: Shelley at September 19, 2006 11:22 PM

way to go Justin! Jeter can't even dream of going 5 for 5...Bartlett's homer was HOTT and then some! There was much whooping and hollering coming from my room when he hit that thing out of the park! Torii, please get better. Give the foot lots of love! Matty, not bad at all. Way to pitch like a pro!

Hope the BoSox are ready to get BOOFED tomorrow!

That game rocked.

BG, I thought of you the entire time. I was hoping they wouldn't call the game after the fifth because of that drive. I make that drive to go to Twins games. Well, my parents do, but that's not the point. It's about the same length from where you are to Fenway as it is from my house to the Dome. It's a tedious drive. But so worth it because of the Twins. Right? =)

Justin going 5-for-5 is hot. Bartlett's three run home run is hot.

1/2 game back AND our magic number is 8! (At least that's what DickNBert told me.)

Oh, another thing? Michael Cuddyer is all over the Star Tribune Sports page and that is HOT!

Posted by: Candace at September 19, 2006 11:28 PM

BatGirl its pretty sweet that you were there too!!!!! Maybe I yelled and waved to you... but I don't know. It was a lot of fun to see fellow Twins fans there! Me and my Punto jersey got plenty of funny looks, and plenty of high fives!

Bartletts homerun pretty much made my day, so did the Dr's 5 for 5, and Matt Garza-- he finally get's another win!!!!!!

And yeah, driving out here sucks. They don't like street signs for some reason... I drove out here from St. Paul to go to school... it was a long, long drive.

Posted by: Elle at September 19, 2006 11:31 PM

I know most of you guys hate anthony john over here, but that golf swing granny was also kinda hot.

Posted by: Gina at September 19, 2006 11:42 PM

From the pic in the paper Cuddys fiancee looks really sweet (no big hair or cleavage a plus in my book) and she has dimples too. Their kids will be adorable!

Posted by: annie at September 19, 2006 11:49 PM

Man, it's times like these I wish I still lived in Boston. I'd have loved to see Morneau's 5-for-5 in person instead of via Yahoo!Gamechannel... which is soooooooo not the same.

Of course, when I lived there we used to walk from my dorm across the river. Driving to a game at Fenway? You have way more patience than I do.

Posted by: Rhode at September 19, 2006 11:50 PM

yaaaayyy run support for garza

yaaayyyyyy three run homer for bartlett

yaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy 5-5 for justin

yaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy loss for tigers

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy TWINS!!! :):):)

Gammons is coming back to ESPN tomorrow.
He knows his stuff good. Reeeeeal good.

If Santana doesn't win the Cy, he will have been robbed.

I think the Royals' magic number is like, 67.

Posted by: Royals Fan at September 19, 2006 11:51 PM

I saw the Twins at Fenway a few years ago during Boston's WS year when I was still living there. Twins won of course.

Things I don't miss about Boston: the turnpike, 7 way intersections, potholes, and roads that have degraded from paved to dirt due to neglect.

Posted by: Mark at September 20, 2006 12:07 AM

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was asked which of Cuddyer's tricks is his favorite.

"The one in which he drives the ball and makes runs appear," Gardenhire deadpanned. "I really like that one."

Posted by: gina at September 20, 2006 12:07 AM

i saw this awesome picture of morneau in the recap of tonights game, he looks like a samurai with a bat!

In my excitment, I made plans to drive up for the White Sox final series. Unless I am missing something, it appears that each game is down to nose-bleed section tickets 10 days beforehand. Still, I can't wait!

Posted by: Mike in Indiana at September 20, 2006 12:49 AM

There is no "try". There is only "do". The force is with you, Justin Morneau.

Posted by: James M. at September 20, 2006 01:01 AM

Annie,

Where's the picture of Claudia? My version of the paper doesn't have it....

Posted by: Candace at September 20, 2006 01:18 AM

There's no Yoda in that shot.

Look at his right arm. That there is what an open can of Whoop-Ass(tm) looks like ladies and gentleman.

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at September 20, 2006 04:15 AM

Don't worry, Royals fan. Let me repeat: Johan has the unanimous Cy Young vote wrapped up. Done. Over.

Jason Bartlett is still the unsung MVP. Castillo's slap & dash has been awesome. Morneau is AL MVP. It's all about the ALCS, Twins v Yanks. Whoever wins that wins it all. Let's go get that homefield advantage.

Let me amend this statement: (ok, let me brag that I saw this coming. WHERE'S MY MONEY, BETONSPORTS.COM?)
"Gotta love ya, Ozzie. That's ... three reasons why you'll be on the outside of the Wild Card race, looking in. Let's hope the WC means nothing to us. This team CAN catch the Tigers, make no mistake. May not, but can."
Posted by: clay jr at July 26, 2006 01:47 AM

This team WILL catch the Tigers. This week. The Twins are going to win the Central. Gotta do it. We need to get the Yankees in a 7-gamer for once. Damn, this rules.

Oh, and Gina, I'm with ya. I still love AJ, and that granny was beautiful. He picked that pitch off of the ground.

Posted by: clay jr at September 20, 2006 04:37 AM

A.J.'s swing was a thing of beauty, doubtless honed by many the hour upon a golf course.

Which is where he and his teammates will be spending time starting in about 10 days. :p

Justin, meanwhile, will have to postpone any such activities until November. Here's hoping he'll need to leave a date open to go pick up some hardware in December, too.

Posted by: tgd at September 20, 2006 04:54 AM

Speaking of Ortiz, there's this gem from the Strib:

Gardenhire was reminded of the last Twins/Red Sox confrontation on June 15, when Ortiz hit a ball that would have gone far over the Metrodome's right-center field wall had it not hit a speaker and landed for a single.

"That's why we taught him to hit the other way," Gardenhire said. "He always complained about us not teaching him to hit home runs here. Well, you hit the ball like that at the Metrodome, you'll hit a speaker."

Have I mentioned lately how much I love baseball?
It is so much fun to still be playing for real in the middle of Sept--not quite as much fun as if the Twins had clinched it by now, but then again, maybe the intensity of the games is partly what makes it fun.

BG & Jeb, glad you were able to go to the game, there should be some rewards for not being in the cities anymore. 6th innning on I kept saying "this is ridiculous to keep playing in this rain. Call it off before someone gets hurt." but now that I realize that you were at the game, I am glad you got to see 9 innings of Twins'ball (don't get me started on the 5 hour drive to Dallas and only getting to see one inning of Frankie Viola pitching before they called the game...). I hope you gave that mean wall a good talking to for what it did to Torii.

Posted by: Sandee at September 20, 2006 07:24 AM

Justin refuses to put himself into any category. "I'm a power hitter, eh? Well, let me bring my batting average up to match an on-base-guy's." It's very fun to watch.

Posted by: JustBeth at September 20, 2006 07:52 AM

"From the pic in the paper Cuddys fiancee looks really sweet (no big hair or cleavage a plus in my book) and she has dimples too. Their kids will be adorable!"

Exactly what I thought, Annie.

Glad they didn't call the game on ya, BG and Jeb!

Justin, you're making me sorry that you're not (one of) my boyfriend(s). Garza, well done indeed. Jesse, maybe if you tame the wild goatee, you'll have better luck with the dingers. Punto, that catch was loverly. Keep up with the yoga. Boof, pitch bueno tonight.

Posted by: FH at September 20, 2006 07:59 AM

Justin went 5-for-5 on my birthday, and I was there to see it!!! does life get any better than that?

Posted by: christy at September 20, 2006 08:28 AM

The Mike in Indiana-

The nose-bleed seats is where the real fun is at though. If you sit in sections 235-237 you are almost guaranteed to see a fight, slutty girls, drunks, and hear cheering so loud that your ears will be ringing. No joke- don't bring any kids.

Posted by: Barty is my love pie at September 20, 2006 09:13 AM

Long ride to a cold rainy Twins win at Fenway? Sounds like a blast, actually. But I'm not pregnant.

Batgirl, I didn't see anyone mention that you got love in yesterday's Strib sports section. In the Daily Buzz on p.2 Michael Rand reviewed your site.

Just some highlights: "This Twins-related blog...has been around for awhile, but the work of late [like her man Torii Hunter] has been particularly strong. ... Semifictional essays, such as a must-read from Sept. 13 about Brad Radke... pitching lights-out ball in Game 7 of the World Series. (Careful kids: bat-girl.com drops a naughty word every now and then.) ... You can visit [the mind of bat-girl] but do not dwell. It will warp your senses."

Hell yeah!

Posted by: nailbiter at September 20, 2006 09:27 AM

Oh, yeah, 5 for 5 is hott...

But Torii standing on the the edge of a 30/100 season is really hott...

And confusing. I was all ready to send him off into the sunset with his giant, unearned contract, but 30/100 is worth a lot. So now we can give him lots of money and I won't feel bad about it.

Congrats BatGirl. Good thing there's no BatPuppies cuz they don't always like the little ones.

With the heaviest of hearts, let me say that I saw her in person in Boston last year and she is indeed a pretty girl and appeared to be quite sweet, shy and... normal. I commend him on his taste in women.

I feel bad for Torii this season. Without that injury...he's quite possibly right there alongside Morneau at 30+ homeruns.

I hope he gets it. Would be sweet to have two 30+ guys back to back in the lineup. Not to mention Micheal "Had I been in the lineup from Day 1 I'd be up there too" Cuddyer. ;)
