B.O.D.

All Batgirl wants is some offense. Is that really too much to ask? And by offense, I don't mean--oh, this guy gets a hit and that guy walks and then this guy hits into a double play. I know there's some confusion on this matter, but that's an o-FENSE, not OFF-ense. Sort of like MOR-neau vs. Mor-NEAU, in that one involves a lot more homers. And, what with all the rampant-double-play-hitting-into, what we needed, it seemed was a homer. Preferably with someone on base because we can't do that scoring thing twice in one game, apparently. And so, while his Boofness deserves lots of huzzahs and hosannahs, this BOD is going to one Mr. Rondell White, for reminding the Twins that scoring wins games. Let's hope they remember tomorrow. And that's why you, Rondell White, are the Boyfriend of the Day.

woohooo!!! way to go Rondell!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at September 4, 2006 02:48 PM

I never thought I'd live to see the day: Rondell White, boyfriend.

Posted by: ump47 at September 4, 2006 02:53 PM

good point ump... but then I wasnt sure I'd ever see the day when Rondell would provide 30% of the Twins' hits and all of their RBIs either.

WTG and thank you, Rondell... and nice "homecoming" to Boof as well.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 02:55 PM

Wow...Rondell White's homerun surprised me beyond all reason. I never thought I'd see the day...Those Twins just never cease to amaze me (and that's a good thing!).

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at September 4, 2006 02:59 PM

i love rondell. the homers don't come often, but when they do they are so so sweet.

Posted by: anna at September 4, 2006 03:19 PM

Good Job Rondy! Good Job Boof!

Hee JC it wasn't much was it? But I take full credit for leaving the game thread and calling some runs.

Posted by: jamar1700 at September 4, 2006 03:27 PM

Nice start by Boof! Good job Rondell! Keep it going, boys!

Posted by: S.B. at September 4, 2006 03:40 PM

Go Boof! Now lets hope the BoSox pick up for a series and beat the BitchSox. If not I feel there will be angry rioting outside my dorm...

Posted by: Elle at September 4, 2006 03:56 PM

The timing of your departure from the game thread was impeccable, jamar. :)

Just browsing the Strib's write up of the game vs the Rays today and had to laugh. Ya think maybe their writers have football on the brain already?

"It was White's first career homer at Tropicana Field, coming in his 61st at-bat. The 12-year veteran has now homered in every major league park he has played in except Mile High Stadium in Denver."

Mile High Stadium, boys? Um... try Coors Field for baseball maybe.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 04:25 PM

Actually, it IS Mile High Stadium. Rondell was playing in the National League back when the Rockies did play in Mile High before they moved into Coor Field where he HAS homered.

Posted by: Nealcp at September 4, 2006 04:34 PM

Really??? wow. Ive been to MHS for football... hard to imagine that laid out for baseball. OK, thanks. I stand corrected.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 04:38 PM

it was a pretty bad baseball layout...kind of like the layout in my NEW adopted stadium for the Marlins, Dolphins Stadium. It's fugly!

Posted by: Nealcp at September 4, 2006 05:08 PM

nice statement BG. it's getting downright painful to watch this offense. of course, winning makes it quite a bit easier to swallow.

Posted by: Dave at September 4, 2006 05:38 PM

I think the Rockies set the record for single game attendance when they played their first game at Mile High.

Posted by: S.J. Redman at September 4, 2006 05:48 PM

Is everyone pressing? It seemed like they used to work hard to have good at bats and relied on each other to pick up the slack when they failed. Now it seems like Joe-Michael-Justin-Torii try to hit a home run on almost every swing. Before, they seemed to have a plate-attitude of "hit it hard somewhere," which is different from "I'm going to hit a home run NOW!" It's weird -- even though they seemed to be playing over their heads for so long, now it seems like they aren't playing up to their potential. Or is this a more accurate look at our boys?

Posted by: Brooklynegg at September 4, 2006 05:48 PM

Yes, I think it's safe to say that EVERYONE is pressing. It happens. I think Ozzie knew what he was doing when he was going on and on about the little bitey fish. He made a big deal out of it and everyone noticed and now those young players are feeling the extra pressure at the plate.

Posted by: jamar17100 at September 4, 2006 05:59 PM

Good! One more thing to blame on Ozzie! :)

I do think they're pressing some. Not unusual given that almost nobody in this group has spent a lot of time in playoff chases. But there are some occasional well hit balls finding gloves. I'm hopeful that this series with TB will allow them to get some confidence back at the plate going in to a big weekend at home with Detroit.

Somehow, someone or something has to loosen them up again.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 06:11 PM

JimCrikket:

My understanding is the stands in left field @ Mile High (I believe they were opposite the football press box) could be moved back; someone even said once they were floated on water (or something like that).

It'd be interesting to see a field in Denver that accounted for the thin air .... 363 down the lines, 440 plus to center .... and three greyhounds for outfielders.

Posted by: BD at September 4, 2006 06:26 PM

Do not mean to be a post-ho but I just saw the clip at mlb.com of Rondell's homer.

What he does with the bat is the opposite of a flip.
He almost politely sets it down. Like the grand old gentleman of baseball that he is.

Flip THAT AJ.

Posted by: jamar1700 at September 4, 2006 06:29 PM

Wow, Justin Morneau stole a base???

Posted by: Donnalove at September 4, 2006 06:41 PM

T'was a thing of beauty, Donnalove.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 06:59 PM

Of course, it was made even more beautiful when White drove him in with the HR.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 07:03 PM

I hate GameTrax-ing the games. I can't get AM radio inside and I wasn't going to sit alone in my car for three hours. I called my sister when I read that Justin stole a base. It's quite miraculous. I think he has four now.

Just a thought-I'm checking the Yankees/Royals score on GameTrax and they have Mientkiewicz on the 15 day DL. Hasn't he been on the DL for close to a month? Maybe I'm imagining it, but he's been down for a while. Does anyone know if he'll be back? I kind of like Dougie.

Posted by: Erin at September 4, 2006 07:25 PM

I thought he had back surgery of some kind which, I assumed, ended his season.

Posted by: JimCrikket at September 4, 2006 07:28 PM

Yippeee for Rondell - Boof nice - keep that up will ya.

Was I the only one to miss the F - bombs??
I know I had the tv on -

My best to the Bremer family - I just read his mother passed away - sadness.

Short work week!

Much love

I am so happy for Rondell. No one wants to have the season he has had, and he deserves to have a good ending. Mile High Stadium is where I first discovered baseball--Denver Bears were the minor league team of my youth (the Rockies played hockey). Mile High is where I also got to watch the great Harmon Killebrew win a homerun derby at an "old timers" game. We also got his autograph that day. Funny, how most people think of it as the football stadium, but with how hard it was to get to a Broncos game (only ever made it to one pre-season game), I always think of it for baseball. Sorta like the Metrodome is the place the Twins play, and those football guys use it during the off season.

Any news yet on Bert? I hope the FCC takes into account intent--it wasn't like he was some guy who makes his living with profanity and was trying to sneak it in.

Posted by: Sandee at September 4, 2006 07:54 PM

Too true, Erin. It takes MLB.com quite a while to update.

::Holds up "Free Bert" sign.::

CC to young players: Piranhta take *small* bites, NOT huge chomps. Play like piranhta, not like the Bitch Sharx!

Anyone besides me puzzled at why today's game wasn't on TV? I mean, it's LABOR DAY. You know, the holiday where people get to stay home from work, kick their feet up and watch the Twi....er never mind...

Posted by: Paul at September 4, 2006 08:44 PM

I'd not seen anything about this the last couple days, but if I'm posting old news, forgive me, but Kudos BG. Click my name or check out this link.

Paul, I'm with you. Perhaps along with Labor Day it was "Appreciate the Radio Broadcast Day." It was a gorgeous day to have the radio on in the backyard and listen to the game like the old days. Would have liked to have seen Rondell's homer. I assume the 10 p.m. news will have that highlight if they can fit it in with all the football coverage. I get dragged to a couple of games a year and never to Chicago or Greenbay games which might be amusing. I need help with plays, downs, offsides, flags, why is the crowd booing or groaning questions. I'm not the best football companion. Husband is a patient man.
Baseball on Labor Day should be televised.

Glad we won.

Happy Labor Day everyone,

kal

Boston tied their game with Chicago in the bottom of the ninth.

Thanks for the link, Chuckles; that's fabulous! I for one hadn't seen it. Congrats to Batgirl for getting in her two cents with SI!

I just moved back in for my third year at UW River Falls. I got my cable hooked up and was flipping around because I couldn't remember what channel FSN was and I wanted to know for tomorrow. But they got rid of it!!!! I don't know what I'm gonna do. We're still considered in the Twin Cities area so it's blacked out on MLB.TV. I'm not looking forward to this.

Posted by: AnnaM at September 4, 2006 10:45 PM

I know the game was not on TV in the Twin Cities but I was able to watch it on Extra Innings here in DC. There were two plays worthy of mention--hopefully they will be replayed--first Morneau SB which has been mentioned--it was a beauty. But the play of the game was not mentioned. Torii stole a homer from the DRays that could have changed the game. One of his better catches. Gardy got Boof out of there right away.

Thanks, Chuckles...had not seen the SI story about the, er, J&J boys or, more importantly, that even SI now acknowledges our Girl as THE authority on all matters Twins.
