A couple quick items of interest from the Strib. Redmond's help comes in many forms. and, in case you missed it, Guillen keen on 'Punto and the Pirhanas.'
Posted by Batgirl at August 21, 2006 08:36 AMThis little blurb on "Redmondisms" is pretty funny as well!!

Posted by: Newton at August 21, 2006 08:53 AMThose are great articles.
Posted by: CarrieICL at August 21, 2006 09:50 AMWow, it is, of course, an honor to share boyfriend LNP with fellow Batlings...but with Ozzie??!!!
Funny.
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at August 21, 2006 09:55 AMThanks, Newton. Hilarious! It reads sort of like a foreign phrase book...
Posted by: PJStP at August 21, 2006 10:00 AMI heart Redmond to no end. Magic Girdle? He's the best.
He totally has great spirit.
Posted by: FH at August 21, 2006 12:01 PMi have come to the conclusion that mike redmond is one of the coolest people around. the redmondisms are also a riot. and LNP "I actually have to talk to him when hes naked". oh, my little nicky...
Posted by: Elle at August 21, 2006 12:08 PMLooking forward to the Orioles series, it seems that the Birds have some decent bloggers out there, though they haven't had much positive to write about this season. SC over at Camden Chat has some love for El Presidente and the Franchise in his look at Cy Young contenders:
"Santana: Leading the league in ERA and strikeouts, second to Halladay in wins, and has been the best pitcher in the league for the third straight year. If the numbers hold, he should win. But he should've won last year."
"Liriano: Doesn't really have a shot at all thanks to the injury, and not having spent the entire year in the rotation would've hurt anyway, but Liriano was electric. He might get back, he might not. If he does and he pitches well, the Twins could win the World Series on the backs of Morneau, Mauer, Santana, Liriano and the suddenly hot Brad Radke."

Also, over at the Orioles Warehouse, you can find a short Orioles mid-season recap that will have you slavering like a taste of Boog's Barbecue for this series to start.

Punto and the Pirhanas...
kinda sounds like a band...
imagine THAT!

"Nobody talks about Tyner and Joe 'Ty Cobb' Punto," Guillen said. "And that shortstop. We worry about Hunter and Morneau and the guy who kicks our [butts] is the three guys who nobody knows their names."
I wonder if he knows their names NOW...
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at August 21, 2006 01:06 PMI doubt Ozzie knows the names of all the guys on his own team, so it's unlikely.
Posted by: adidasman at August 21, 2006 01:09 PMI *did* miss that article on Guillen. Awesome. Thanks, Beege!
Posted by: Salt-Man Z at August 21, 2006 01:20 PMMike Redmond is my hero. Our catchers make such a good team:
"Chairman Mauer and the little Red-mond book"
Posted by: aussie at August 21, 2006 01:38 PMOzzie is just such a jerk. If he paid attenion to anything besides the nonstop, ignorant and misinformed crap spewing from his own a**mouth, he'd know that the dynamic changes every year, often depending on what happens in the offseason.
Last year it was the NL East that was eating each other alive (with every team finishing.500 or above, the only division in baseball to come anywhere NEAR that) while the AL Central was basically a one-team division the majority of the season.
Every division takes its turn as the "competitive" one and this year it *happens* to be the AL Central (even though only 3 teams are even over .500). Yet this ignorant moron acts as if baseball history is comprised of 2006 alone, and the tiny world he inhabits (his own division) is the entire universe.
One must wonder just how many NY Mets games he's actually had occasion to watch this season, since he seems so sure we couldn't compete. His crappy team may have a higher batting average, but that's mainly because one spot in our lineup is taken by a pitcher every game.
He's just such an idiot. He thinks everyone hates him because he speaks his mind. No, Ozzie. We hate you because your mind is full of ignorant, stupid CRAP and when crap squirts out of anything, it gets ugly.
Posted by: LaurieNY at August 21, 2006 02:39 PMUm... Ozzie may believe the AL, and the ALC particularly are a lot better than the NL because... they are. The ALC was 63-27 against the NL, for goodness sake. The Mets were 6-9 against the AL. Heck there were a grand total of TWO NL teams that had winning records in IL play.
Now... Ozzie does say a lot of stupid stuff. He runs his mouth way more than is a good idea. And his hyperbole about winning 150 is kind of laughable. But he's basically right about the NL.
Tra la la la laaaaaaa...you can feel the love, can't you? Ozzie just seems to bring out the best in everyone he touches. Sooooo...enough of this NL versus AL stuff, since we know the answer to that one already. Anyone for a round or three of "Piranhas In A Cell" this weekend???
Posted by: adidasman at August 21, 2006 03:45 PMHow long before we see a home made shirt at the Dome - Punto and the Pirahans??
Oh how I love Mike Redmond!
I wonder what the Mrs thinks about this - and if he was ever this "odd" in Florida - we need the inside scoop from Luis Castillo =)
Much Love
Wonder Woman
Why do I want to sing Benny and the Jets now??
Posted by: Wonder Woman at August 21, 2006 03:55 PMIf that shirt does appear, I wonder which of the 37 different spellings of "piranha" that have been featured on this blog alone will end up on the front of the shirt. Hopefully not Bert's version; his sounds like some new menu item at Taco Bell. "Try our new Crispy Beef Piranhtas - three cheeses, seasoned ground beef, and zesty Punto sauce, all wrapped up in a flour tortilla!"
Posted by: adidasman at August 21, 2006 04:25 PMSox Matt:
A fellow Met fan and I exchanged emails all winter about what was unfolding. We couldn't believe what we were watching, as we kept careful track of every off-season transaction. By our calculations, the NL--and specifically the NL East--was sending all of the biggest pains in the proverbial a** over to the AL. Before our very eyes, the NL was becoming ripe for the picking. Our biggest enemies were heading out of the league and out of our division. (And of course so many of them to the AL East, where they could do God's work.) Surely it was too good to be true! If what was taking place was to be believed, the NL would be decimated and we could finally have our wicked way!! This had never happened so completely... it was coming together too perfectly. SURELY IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
Guess not. I'd say we pretty much nailed it. And for the record, before this season that we correctly predicted would be so weak for the NL, the NL actually led in all-time interleague play. I repeat, baseball history did not begin in 2006.
Posted by: LaurieNY at August 21, 2006 04:27 PMLaurie, that is definate true, baseball history did not begin in 2006, but you can't expect the '86 mets to play this October. You have to play with (and against)the teams taht exist today.
Posted by: bhedrick at August 21, 2006 04:30 PM"zesty Punto sauce" ROTFLMAO!!
Posted by: LaurieNY at August 21, 2006 04:32 PMbhedrick,
Uh, yeah. We know. And we're doing that quite nicely, thank you. Even though we only have one starter left in our rotation from April. That's been fun.
Just like anyone with the mentality and maturity of an armchair, Ozzie's going to realize the hard way what a moron he's been when he's fired and suddenly has to go sucking up to all those teams he insulted. I'll put money on him showering them all with compliments and insulting the Sox when that time comes. If he has any brains at all, he'll finally learn something and stop badmouthing people and burning bridges the way he is now. He's going to need some of these people on the way down.
Posted by: LaurieNY at August 21, 2006 04:40 PM*snort* adidasman. . . Zesty Punto Sauce!!! "Zesty" is definitely right!
Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 21, 2006 05:45 PMThis may be the cheapest shot I've ever taken, but those Crispy Beef Piranhtas with zesty Punto sauce can give you the runs. I do like a little 'Sweet and Mauer' on my eggrolls, though, and Morneauaise on my sandwiches.
Posted by: twayn at August 21, 2006 05:50 PMThose Piranhtas sound delicious. Zesty Punto sauce is a bit of a double entendre. I know all of you were thinking that already.
Posted by: Erin at August 21, 2006 05:54 PMAdidasman--where was the copy editing on that article?
Posted by: Donnalove at August 21, 2006 06:29 PMI loved the piece on Redmond this morning. The PiPress had this Q&A with Cuddy:
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/columnists/15321313.htm
Posted by: fiesta at August 21, 2006 09:55 PMTwayn--So, are you writing the menu for the new food service contract when Hennepin Fee-payers Field opens in 2010 (I can't bear to see it called Pohlad Field)?
Should it be Sweet(cheeks) & Mauer sauce? Morneauaise. Hah! By the end of October, maybe they can serve "grilled tiger with TCBearnaise?"
Posted by: fiesta at August 21, 2006 10:02 PMIt will have a corporate sponser as it's name no doubt so I doubt it will be named either of those. LOL
Posted by: Nora at August 21, 2006 10:46 PMBAT bandwagoner: No, no. Ozzie's NSMC is LJP.
Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 21, 2006 10:47 PMOne of the worst byproducts of corporate America has to be the trend of naming large sporting arenas/stadiums etc. after corporate sponsors which 1) sound stupid, 2) are meaningless, and 3) sound stupid.
Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 21, 2006 10:50 PMthis is late--- but i am still laughing about the zesty Punto sauce. I would kill for some.
Posted by: Elle at August 22, 2006 12:27 AM
"BAT bandwagoner: No, no. Ozzie's NSMC is LJP."
Hah! Somebody needs to send him a SHIRT!
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at August 22, 2006 08:10 AM*imagining what Ozzie would say upon receiving said shirt*
hee hee hee
Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 22, 2006 09:26 AM"BAT bandwagoner: No, no. Ozzie's NSMC is LJP."
Ha! Fact!
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at August 22, 2006 09:54 PMI was kind of surprised to see people here so snarky about Ozzie's comments. Ozzie and Gardie get along really well and Ozzie said them because he likes the Twins so much. I understand that there is still some bad blood over Mark Buerhlrlrhlrhlrhlrhrle's dumb-ass comments from several years ago, but these days Ozzie really does admire the Twins.
On the interview today, he went on and on about how you guys are his favorite team, but the stupid sports media won't shut up about the Yankees and Dead Sox. Finally, the host had to remind Ozzie that actually his favorite team is the White Sox.
Anyway, I hope it's two AL Central teams in the playoffs this year. Obviously, to me that means the Sox and Tigers/Twins, but I certainly would be happy to see us meet each other in the ALCS.
