B.O.D.

Oh, man. This was not a game you wanted to lose. The Twins left roughly 847 players on base, and each time you thought--next time. Next time we'll take the lead. And then someone (I'm looking at you Jason Tyner) hit the first pitch into a double play and you'd think--next time. Please? Anyone? And then Jesse Crain gave up another run in the eighth and it appeared there was not going to be a next time. And then Joe Mauer--who had blown a chance with bases loaded earlier-- sauntered up in the ninth and BOOM! Great, wow, it would have been really nice if Crain hadn't given up that run, now we're still down a run and it's the ninth inning and, oh, hello, Michael Cuddyer, how--

That sound you heard was everyone is Kauffman's stadium's neck snapping as they watched Cuddy's homer go out. That tied the game, set up the Twins win, and gave, you, Michael Cuddyer, the Boyfriend of the Day.

Researchers may have just discovered yet another hidden cause to bi-polar disorder:

They're going to snap this thing open this time!

I'm going to kill myself!

They're going to snap this thing open *this* time!

I'm going to kill myself!

Gawd, this could be the most glorious, hideous eight weeks in a long time. (Or since fall '92, when the Steroid Brothers did us in.)

I called home runs by cuddyer and morneau after mauer hit his...2 outta 3 ain't bad at all. I discovered today cuddles has the same birthday as me. my like for him has grown. and he actually sounds smart during the post-game interviews!

but damn, boys, don't do that to us! make up your minds already! are you playing for good, or for evil?!? and 4 hours is far to long for a baseball game.

Thank gawd someone else had to pick the B.O.D. - the decision would have left me in cold sweats...as did the game...as did 'neau in general...but still.

Game recap by Sally, Dick & Jane:

See Michael swing.
See Michael swing hard.
Swing, Michael, swing!

See the ball fly.
See the ball fly far away.
Fly, ball, fly!

See the Twins win.
See the Twins win again.
Win, Twins, win!

After Mauer hit his homer I was thinking up a monologue for Cuddyer as he walked up to the plate. "If you liked that one, watch THIS." and then BOOM! The four hour game was nice. It got me through the second half of work tonight. I was disappointed for the majority of the game but Cuddles usually pulls through for us when we need him. Win, Twins, win!

Posted by: Shelley at August 4, 2006 11:41 PM

This is probably the only time a guy could go 2-2 with 3 RBIs (the most by any one player), 2 doubles and 4 walks, and not get BOD.

Poor Doctor. Oh well, I'm sure there's something you and Mauer can watch on Animal Planet tonight to make you forget this oversight.

Mr. Baseball has been reduced to nuthin' but a haiku-spewin' mushball by this game ...

Ambiorix sucks
Which is very good for us
Give Johan some time

...although it allowed him to make sure that his memory was still clear about the original Ambiorix, a.k.a. "The Belgian Waffle." Anyone else remember him from their history classes?

Dear Will:

Nice one.

Posted by: flairjordan at August 4, 2006 11:54 PM

Great win
I must admit I thought after loading the bases 3 innings in a row and not getting a run that maybe the boys just didn't have it tonight.
Bad Cal, Bad Cal how dare I doubt.

By the way the new kid up from Rochester, I had the KC broadcast and the as they panned through the dugout he was in the picture and I thought "wow he looks like Scott Erikson" Is it just me? I swear I was drinking last night.

By the way great win!

Ya know - the M@M thing seems more and more like fact instead of fiction each and every night. Im not sure which player Im happier for. The one who has lived up to expectations or the one that is really truly and for sure(edly) crushing his. God love em both and thank you for makin em Twins. For MVP I elect J.M.

Posted by: TAR at August 5, 2006 12:54 AM

It seems to be M&M&M at this point....with a little first name forgiveness...in any case, I love how the team is inspired by one another...they just need to carry it game-over-game instead of starting over each time...there is most certainly a great editorial in that idea...

Posted by: flairjordan at August 5, 2006 01:00 AM

Dick said 'as the Royals issue their 12th walk, I don't believe I've ever said that before'. Do we know if that is some sort of record? I sure don't remember seeing a game with so many walks!

Three cheers for home runs; one cheer for Justin, one cheer for Joe, and one big cheer for DJ Cuddles!

Didn't get to see or listen to the game, except when I caught on the radio that the Doctor had just hit a bases-loaded double. I was with Will when I thought "Justin is definetly getting BOD honors". But then again, I didn't listen to the whole game either.

Come on now.. You have to give it up Joe. I mean have the chance to finish the game with 3 on base..pressure pressure pressure. Then choking, and then redeming himself.. This team is inspired by each other, and Joe set the pace.

~Laura~

ps...Hey, I met Joe last night as a birthday gift.. oh lord.. what a sweet heart. I was shaking, and he was like, "Aw, It's okay." Then talked to me for a little while[during his batting practice] and was like, "You want me to sign anything, or take a picture." PLUS, He looked super cute!!

A/n: He signed two balls and a TC hat.

Posted by: Laura at August 5, 2006 09:28 AM

What the Hell is wrong with Johan?

Posted by: Jose Hernandez at August 5, 2006 10:01 AM

No picture again. >:-( C'mon, BG...

Posted by: LaurieNY at August 5, 2006 10:11 AM

Another game I actually got see on my TEEVEE!

Yay for Cuddles! Yay for M&M! And a big old squeeze for Reyes! (Big squeeze for a big boy *g* )

And might I add, lith and wiry do not begin to describe Jason Renyt Tyner. That boy is skeeeeny.

Posted by: jamar1700 at August 5, 2006 10:55 AM

God, I love it when my boys come through for me! I wasn't able to watch the game. I saw five minutes of it (unfortunately, it happened to be the five minutes in the fourth inning during which the Landed Gentry took the lead). I feel so bad for not being there for them to root them on to victory...Also, I LOVE IT when my boyfriend goes 4-for-5. HE SCORED ON WILD PITCH! YAY! That put us in the lead!

Posted by: Carrie Hannie at August 5, 2006 11:24 AM

Laura, your story about Joe Mauer is TOO CUTE! I was like, "Aw! That's so sweet!" Jamar, your comment about Jason Tyner was hilarious.

Posted by: Carrie Hannie at August 5, 2006 11:28 AM

I was at the Padres game last night, standing up & cheering loudly every time they posted a run on the scoreboard for the Twins. That gets you some looks, since it looked like I was cheering for the catcher completing the throw back to the pitcher.

Incredible. Morneau would be MVP if Ortiz wasn't so godlike (against everyone but us). Also, kudos to whomever put Mike Smith in against the Royals tomorrow. I know I repeatedly called Garza, but this is a better decision, I think. Give Garza time if Silva is going to not suck. And saving The Franchise for the Tigers is hot. BEAT THE TIGERS.

Posted by: clay jr at August 5, 2006 05:44 PM

I have to agree. Morneau would definately be the AL MVP if it weren't for Ortiz. And Ortiz just looks unstoppable right now. At the rate he's going I really wouldn't be suprised if Ortiz ended up with 60+ homers and 160+ ribbies. He's just sick.

Posted by: grace at August 5, 2006 06:10 PM

Morneau could close the gap right here. 3 RUN BOMB. DO IT.

Posted by: clay jr at August 5, 2006 06:15 PM

Heh. 36 minutes later...

Posted by: clay jr at August 5, 2006 06:51 PM

Goodness, Hernandez certainly has his panties in a twist.

3-run homah....hooooootttt. I agree with y'all about Morneau.

clay jr--Excellent. I gotta respect someone who is not afraid to support his team at all times and in all places. Props. Nice call, by the way.

Posted by: Carmen at August 5, 2006 07:09 PM

Um, can we please get back to the original purpose of this thread, which is honoring the supreme wonderfulness that is Michael Cuddyer? Sooz, JustBeth, step in here! Our man's BOD thread is being HIJACKED!!!

Heh. Gotta have my sweetie's back...

Posted by: LaurieNY at August 5, 2006 07:50 PM

Sounds like a perfect time for a tangent!

Alert: The drawn baseball in Pat Neshek's autograph eerily resembles the evil monster baseball in the LNP game.

Nick'let may be in trouble. Just saying.

Posted by: TD at August 5, 2006 08:45 PM

Wow. Pudge just went deep with 2 down for the Tiggers to win again. They are going to be tough to beat. Hang on, D-Rays.

P.S. Thanks Carmen. I may be a bit obnoxious. Oh well.

Posted by: clay jr at August 5, 2006 08:47 PM

Can we pleeeaaazeee give Castirious his props now? He deserves a nickname...

Posted by: flairjordan at August 5, 2006 08:49 PM

Speaking of Castillo, is anyone else besides me kinda glad that Chase Utley didn't break Castillo's hit streak? No disrepect to Utley or anything.
