We can (and apparently do) hit all the damned runs we want, but it's not going to mean anything without some pitching. The Lefties of Doom can only do so much, the Elder Statesman is doing is best, but it's time for Mr. Carlos Silva to step up. And you know what? Two starts in a row, he's stepped up. He was helped by some flashy defense and more run support than he had all of last year, plus--you know--the Royals--but the point is the results. For presiding over your second straight blowout, and for pitching a near flawless game until it was well in hand, and because we need you to keep it up--this is why you, Carlos Silva, are the Boyfriend of the Day.

Posted by Batgirl at August 5, 2006 09:24 PMNice make-up call. I thought he deserved it against the Rangers, for sure. But if he stays out of sucking-time, things look very good.
Nice DP by the D-Rays to finish off the Red Sox. Gotta stay close to them & the Yanks.
Posted by: clay jr at August 5, 2006 09:31 PM*Applauds* You earned it Silva!
What a fun game to watch...I love the fact there seems to be more Twins fans in KC than Royals fans!
Posted by: Newton at August 5, 2006 09:35 PMSome very nice work by Silva tonight, even with the long balls. Hey, even Santana and Liriano have that happen once in a while, and Radke nearly made it an art form during the sucking time. Every game I'm getting back a little more confidence in our rotation. The Royals pitching tonight, on the other hand, was most pedestrian, in all three meanings of the adjective form.
Posted by: twayn at August 5, 2006 09:37 PMThe Twins have not lost since the All-Star break when Silva starts. Santana too for that matter (though last night almost ruined it). In fact, they are 17-6 since the All-Star Break. That's pretty darn good, even with the 2-4 home stand last week.
Posted by: Pun at August 5, 2006 09:43 PMGreat to get the wins, but, man... it must absolutely suck to be a Royals fan. Two strikeouts looking with the bases loaded and down 11 to 3. Wow!! Take a swing for gosh-darn sakes!!! I think the fans are too tired of these guy's mistakes to even boo anymore.
Neshek looked good though (although the camo caps gotta go).
Get the brooms out and sweep. Smiths Twins debut - should be exiting.
Posted by: TAR at August 5, 2006 10:20 PMWhich do you think is more frustrating?
Being a Royals fan or a Cub fan?
P.S. I am a Cub fan.
*sighs VERY loud* As i am from kansas city, sadly, and being a VERY big baseball fan.. DAMN YOU!! WHY COULDNT I HAVE BEEN FROM ST. PAUL?!? I am VERY VERY jealous not to be able to call Minn. my home state.. i have to sadly resort to wishing we had a good team and good players... so i will wear my Twins hat proudly in kansas city and cry myself to sleep untill the Twins return so i can have my baseball team back...

Oh lord.. Was i the only one that saw Mauers two RBIs?? yes yes..Carlos Silva did win the boyfriend of the day.. and rightfull too..
Posted by: Laura at August 5, 2006 10:41 PMGood choice. But right now I am tremendously excited in anticipation of Home Run #30. I hope it happens tomorrow!
Has anybody heard any mention of Morneau as an MVP candidate? He's got to be considered, doesn't he?
Posted by: sld at August 5, 2006 11:20 PMGood pick, BG. The game was just so much fun to watch. I did find myself rooting for that 12th hit for the KC fans, for all the sucking time they are having to endure (and we Twins fans have a history filled with those times) they at least deserved to get their free donuts.
One vote against camo hats ever showing up again. Unless each player signs his and sends it to a long time fan of his team serving overseas
Posted by: Sandee at August 5, 2006 11:42 PMYes sld, I've heard a lot of talks about Morneau and even Mauer being MVP candidates. Morneau would definately get it because there is no one in the league better than him all around, except for this guy they call Big Papi. And unless Ortiz suffers some MAJOR slump, I doubt he'd get robbed of an MVP for the second year in a row. I figure if they both continue to play the way they've been playing then Ortiz will most likely get the most 1st place votes and Morneau would get the most 2nd place votes. I still wouldn't complain about that though becuse to come in 2nd place to a monster like Ortiz ain't bad. Imagine he was still playing for the Twins?
Posted by: grace at August 5, 2006 11:49 PMJackal, victory is ours!!
Ahem...
He's my boyfriend
He's not your boyfriend
He does not love you
He only loves me
'Cause he's my boyfriend.
if you click on my name there is a funny little piece from "the dugout"
and can someone help me out cause this is going to bother me forever. What is the name of the song that almost every ballpark plays when the bases are loaded? (they played it tonight when the royals had the bases loaded)
Grace, is it Crazy Train by Ozzy? I'm not sure because I don't recall what the Royals play, but virtually every other team plays it. It's got Ozzy in his weird voice going "All aboard hahahahahaha" That's the one, right?
Posted by: Will at August 6, 2006 12:22 AMI asked my wife tonight, "So, are there any actual *Royals fans* or just baseball fans who happen to live in Kansas City?"
And, man oh man, how about Kubel's almost-homerun? Towering OVER the foul pole? Holy crap, was that ball hit HARD.
Posted by: Salt-Man Z at August 6, 2006 12:29 AMYes! thank you Will. I just couldn't figure it out and it was really bugging me.
Posted by: grace at August 6, 2006 12:34 AMalas, I was forced to attend my 15-year high school class reunion instead of watching the game, but I did pull out my radio from time to time to get the score to keep the Twins fans among us updated. the first time I checked in, Justin had just hit his home run. then it was 10-0, and I said, "oh, I guess we'll probably win this one..." heh
good job, Jackal! keep pitching bueno!
Posted by: kafumbly at August 6, 2006 12:40 AMKeep it up, Carlos! No Crazy Pepe's Chug & Toss for the rest of the year, you hear?
Posted by: ump47 at August 6, 2006 12:49 AMHave a safe and pleasant journey to ECBS-land, Jeb and BG and assorted batkitties!
Posted by: Kurtis at August 6, 2006 01:34 AMGina, My pick would be a Cub fan since KC didn't have a MLB franchise the last time the Northsiders won a W. S.
P. S. My name's linked to MLB's Wild Card/Elimation # page. If you click to the main page, Chairman and Presidente are shown to the lower left.
Posted by: Packerchu at August 6, 2006 07:24 AMGood thing Silva was on the mound last night as he actually looked pretty menacing in the camo hat.
Neshek...not so much. *g*
And a well deserved B.O.D. for the big guy!
Posted by: jamar1700 at August 6, 2006 08:41 AMTwo words LAURA: MLB.tv ....well thats not two words, and it may not even be one, but its good enough to see all of the B.O.D's every day.
The Royals should be demoted to AAA ball. I feel bad for KC fans.
Posted by: TX Ken at August 6, 2006 09:38 AMI have a question. Who was the last Twin to hit 100 RBI in a season and what year did he do it? Please help. I'm too lazy to look it up.
Posted by: sld at August 6, 2006 12:18 PMI think sweetcheeks had over 100 in 03
Posted by: Grace at August 6, 2006 01:10 PMSid - Corey Koskie had 103 in 2001. I don't know if anyone's done it *since*, but I think not.
- Kurtis
Posted by: Kurtis at August 6, 2006 02:17 PMGrace is right! Should have checked that before posting about Koskie. Torii had 102 in 03.
Posted by: Kurtis at August 6, 2006 02:18 PMBOD today-- KC Royals! Unbelievable! For all you fantasy geeks out there-- Royals WHIP for the series is 2.49. That is beyond absurd.
Posted by: hrbekfan at August 6, 2006 04:18 PMI have one thing to say about that game: HOTTT. That double by Barty was even hottter!
