Congratulations to Andrew E., landslide winner of the JMSC contest. Andrew, you are an inspiration to us all. Through your awesome Mauerist sideburns, you have shown us what dedication and perseverance can lead to. May your pitch selection be perfect, may all your bloopers fall in for singles. Andrew, you bat .400 in our hearts.
This weekend, do not forget to check out Johan Santana's Perfect Game at the Fringe Festival.
And get your taste buds ready for BLIZZARD DAY on Aug. 10. Every Blizzard you buy benefits the Children's Miracle Network.
Good news about Liriano, who was just awarded his second straight Rookie of the Month.
Batgirl won't be online much the next week, so forgive her if she is late responding to any emails. She will be spending all her energies setting up her MLB Extra Innings package in Amherst. Except to hear quite a lot of complaining about certain announcers that Batgirl will be subjected to in the near future.
Posted by Batgirl at August 4, 2006 08:44 AMWell, hearty congratulations, Andrew - I thought I could give you a run for your money, but, sadly, you were just too Mauerish for me (and way better looking to boot). I cling to the knowledge that second place isn't so bad, considering the fierce level of competition. (For what it's worth, though, I've had sideburns since '89; Andrew was probably the star of his third grade soccer team right around then. Maybe I qualify for a Lifetime Achievement Award or something?)
Posted by: adidasman at August 4, 2006 09:41 AMI second Adidasman, congratulations Andrew. I wish I could have seconded him in the contest too, but it was a fierce competition and my hat is off to both of you. As I mentioned to Batgirl when I entered there is just a dearth of sideburn related contests out there, so big thanks to her for allowing us to show off. It was fun. And thanks everyone for voting (especially those who voted for me!).
Posted by: Chuckles at August 4, 2006 09:57 AMWell done, Andrew! I look forward to your appearance on the cover of Sideburns Illustrated. I believe I voted for #7, whoever he may be, but all of our impressive contestants deserve a hearty round of applause... so here it is: Yayyyyyyy!
Posted by: LaurieNY at August 4, 2006 10:21 AMTerry Ryan is prolly to cheap to do it himself, so I did it for him, and for you, Twins fans.

Posted by: Hank at August 4, 2006 10:28 AMAbsolutely fabulous, Andrew! And huzzah to all the entrants in the contest--you all did the Chairman proud.
Posted by: Carmen at August 4, 2006 11:11 AMAs another out of town Twins fan, I have to say I'm glad that Batgirl is going to be joining our ranks, if only so she can eloquently address what it's like listening to certain other teams' announcers. You really can't understand it until you have to listen to the Hawk and DJ for 3 straight games (and we have 3 series left with the Bitch Sox). That being said, at least we're done playing the Angels. Rex Hudler is AWFUL.
Posted by: TBird41 at August 4, 2006 11:38 AMNice job Andrew.
Son of k-bro hopes to someday be able to grow real sideburns that groovy.

Posted by: k-bro at August 4, 2006 01:06 PMWell done, Andrew. Nice 'burns ya got there.
Congrats to Cisco for running away with ROM yet again! How exciting.
Posted by: FH at August 4, 2006 01:40 PMCongrats! Your sideburns look very Mauerish. You even look a little like him...
Posted by: Carrie Hannie at August 4, 2006 03:54 PMAbsolutely, positively agree about Rex Hudler. I shudder whenever the Twins play the Angels. In fact, there is no tandem in baseball that comes even CLOSE to matching Dick and Bert. Although the Seattle guys don't seem that bad, and the Tigers guys have a lot of heart.
Of course, as bad as Hudler is, nothing compares to the crapiness of listening to Hawk Harrelson shouting "You can put it on the board.....YES!" or "he gone." White Sox Suck.
Posted by: Joshua Taylor at August 5, 2006 07:05 PMCongrats Andrew!!!! See the crazy things your sisters get you into? (For what it is worth, he was still a babe in diapers Adidasman - not playing third grade soccer!!!) We learned of Andrew's victory while sitting at Kauffman stadium Friday night - the man sitting next to us did not seem to share our excitement over our brother winning the JMSC. Oh well! Great entries everyone!!!!
Posted by: Tamile at August 6, 2006 09:44 PMGee, thanks, Tamile - THAT'S what I needed to hear. The sad part is that I realized later that it was around '86 or '87 when I started wearing sideburns again - so Andrew wasn't even born yet, I suppose. Maybe next time we can compete in age divisions...how can I be expected to match up against someone half my age? *wheeze, wheeze*
Posted by: adidasman at August 7, 2006 09:07 AMAdidasman - I never meant to imply that you are old! (We just have to prevent the lil' brother from getting a big head from people thinking he is in his twenties!) :)
