No Love For Fran-tastic?

Thanks for having us out to the game today, Batgirl. I had a really good time and enjoyed meeting some fellow readers.

You have to remember that Team Batgirl Boyfriends get first dibs, Paul. It's like when union-represented jobs open up.

I'm thrilled to have actually cheered that 2-run jack WITH Batgirl in section 141, which came right in the middle of our discussion of the smaller cities of central Maine.

Yep, it was a lot of fun today. Thanks, everyone, for coming.

Homerun porch seat made possible by Batgirl: $15
Parking near Dome $8
Dome Dog and Souvenir Pop: (a ridiculous) $9
Watching the Twins take the series against Baltimore and cheering along with Team Batgirl: Priceless!

I really liked the way the Doctor picked up Cuddy after the phantom foul tip call by striding to the plate like a Canadian Colossus and knocking a bomb into the vertical seats. That was just an awesome FU moment. Also, I'm not sure who had the worse day today, my man Cuddyer at the plate or Mr. Rapuano behind it. Kudos to LNP for the foul tip to the mask that helped clear the man in blue's head -- that was a brilliant display of karma in action. And you absolutely have to tip your hat to Mr. Bedard for an amazing baseball fait accompli, when in the fifth inning he walked Joe Mauer twice and still managed to strike him out. Wonders never cease.

Central Maine...Waterville? Love the Doctor. Love Fran. Keep it going, boys!

Posted by: dawn at June 11, 2006 06:40 PM

I lived in Orono. Jeb and BG lived in Old Town a few years later. That's the vicinity of Bangor. Ten batpoints to anyone who can name what recent Twin hails from that neighborhood.

Why the interest in Waterville? Do you have some connection to that cute little berg?

Posted by: Kurtis at June 11, 2006 06:57 PM

Ooh- I don't know. Does Kinney count as a recent Twin?

I'm a proud White Mule.

Matt was who I was thinking of. If I can remember it, it's recent!

Colby is a fine college. I had no idea you went there.

I have no complaints about the BOD choice. And I also had a grand time in 141 with BG and batlings.

A fitting end to Birthday Week. Thanks, BG. Hail, Doctor!

Hope you all had a fun time at the game today (which it sounds you all did). 2 in row as well for the Doc? Goob, you might be pulling away in this thing!

Thanks for organizing Batgirl. I had fun! I went to the Thunder game afterward and they would have have won 4-0 as well if not for a bogus penalty kick.

I had a great time in 141. Thanks for organizing it!

Doc's last 3 gms: 7 hits, 3 hr, 9 rbi
raised his BA .020 in the process. I'm feeling all better!

I wish I could have hung out with you folks yesterday, but I didn't know if I was going to be in Minnesota until Tuesday.

At least I was able to witness Gardy's performance piece. I felt inspired enough to hit a two-run shot myself!

(A side note: writing this on a Palm is a wee bit difficult.)

Thank you to Tinger to keeping me updated on the good Doctors HR's this weekend!!

Yesterday, at the invitation of Batgirl, I had the privilege of attending what might be the greatest Sunday afternoon game I've ever seen during summertime in a dome. My girls and I biked there in the rain. It looked like a definite dome day. But somehow, from indoors, "Franchisco" Liriano blew the clouds away and made the rest of the day a glorious one.

We got to the game just after the first pitch and wiggled our way into a packed Batgirl section. All four of us looked around, but we could not find Batgirl. The section was filled with very nice-looking, but definitely regular people. I wasn't sure if we were in the right place; my daughters looked disappointed. I told the kids that Batgirl probably had some superhero work to do; maybe she was flying Terry Ryan to some AAA park somewhere. Then I spotted Batgirl's close personal friend, the excellent (and, we found out, super sweet) author of The Shadow Thieves. It turns out she's a huge baseball fan, too, and she signed our copy of her book and told my daughters that her dad turned her into a baseball lover. I hope I get a chance someday to tell her how much I appreciate that comment.

The game was marvelous, and so, again, was Twins Geek's GameDay. He added a Kid's Corner, so my 9-year old spent most of her time doing the word puzzle looking for the names of Twins pitchers. She even found "dad" and added it. (I wish! Now pitching for Liriano, dad!) There was a good piece on Joe Mauer, entitled, "Chairman Mauer" (because everyone reads Batgirl). Basically, Joe is even better than you thought. Gardy did his little jig early on and got tossed. It was as funny as ever, and nobody missed him afterwards. I think we saw him in Champps on the way home. Luis Castillo nearly caught the only Oriole hit that Liriano gave up. And Rincon and Nathan finished the pitching job in classic one-two Juan-Joe style.

We were getting up to leave while the Twins were high-fiving, when all of a sudden we noticed the buzz in the Metrodome was settling. Everyone was looking at the giant milk jug in right field - Torii Hunter may have been staring hardest. The jug was heaving and shaking. All of a sudden, the pink top popped off and out flew Batgirl. People, she looks almost exactly like her cartoon character. Spontaneously, the crowd began to sing Happy Birthday, as Batgirl flew over to our section and waved, sprinkling us with mother cow's milk. My kids were going wild - they cheered louder than after Morneau's homer. Batgirl flew away, higher and higher. I started thinking she was going to punch a hole in the roof! But she's a good superhero – we need that stadium for two more seasons, and we might have all been sucked out of there, who knows. Instead, suddenly, she swooped down into the Twins lineup and started high-fiving with the others. The last I saw of her she was walking into the locker, patting Torii Hunter on the rear.

I never did get a chance to say thank you Batgirl.

Hey, nice to meet and remeet everybody yesterday!

Remember, if Joe Mauer doesn't swing, it's not a strike.
