Some nights the choice is refreshingly obvious. Can't deliver in the clutch much better than that!

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 19, 2005 09:52 PM

Lew has hit only 3 run shots this season. Weird.

Posted by: CarrieIC at August 19, 2005 09:52 PM

Lew's homerless streak: OVER
No 3-run homer streak: OVER
Winning streak: NOT OVER

Whoo-hoo.

Posted by: neutrino boi at August 19, 2005 09:53 PM

See? The Gwynn's Prayer and a couple of Hail Harmons *does* make a difference!

Posted by: mk at August 19, 2005 09:55 PM

(plus, Lew's probably inspired by the fact that they're making a Doom movie...)

Posted by: mk at August 19, 2005 09:56 PM

yes!!! 6 game winning streak...awsome!!
GO LEWWWWWWWWWWW

Posted by: Mrs Mauer at August 19, 2005 10:01 PM

This winning one game and one series at a time thing feels... right.

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 19, 2005 10:04 PM

Um, oh yeah, and we now find ourseleves only three games back in the wild card chase. The Bitch Sox have dropped six in a row. Welcome back from Bizarro World.

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 19, 2005 10:09 PM

Maybe it helped to have Killebrew in the building while reciting Hail Harmons. From the Wikipedia: "Harmon Clayton Killebrew (b. June 29, 1936 in Payette, Idaho) was a Major League Baseball player famous for his ability to hit home runs." Just the player the Twins need to channel. Could Harmon just sit in the dugout, for a couple games? The rest of the season? Pinch hit once in a while?

Posted by: BlueCanoe at August 19, 2005 10:14 PM

oh, I think Lew's B.O.D. can be laid right at the size 12s of Jeff "Oops" Nelson

Posted by: msb at August 19, 2005 10:23 PM

Would be nice if those fellas in KC could do something to earn a few BOD awards against the A's this weekend, but it's not looking good.

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 19, 2005 10:35 PM

We were at a Beatles tribute show and missed the game, but I'm happy to see the Beatles... er, the Twins... won and the Stones... I mean the BitchSox... lost.

Posted by: Kurtis at August 19, 2005 10:36 PM

Tonight I wore my new pink "Jacque is my boyfriend" shirt. We were at the game in time to see the '65 team announced (BG - I would buy a Harmon is my BF). It was great. While the line ups were being annouced, a woman behind me screamed for Jacque in a way usually reserved for the '65 Beatles. Later, when he had his first at-bat (I use that term loosely) She again rose to her feet and yelled, "I love you, Jacque Jones". I stood up and said, "Honey, I think you need a tee shirt like mine."
"Ohmigod!" she screamed, "Where did you get that shirt?!! I have to have it!!"
I turned around to display the batgirl logo, which her husband recognized.
"And it's PINK! I'll give you $20 for that shirt!" she said. Well, $20 really isn't much for a boyfriend shirt, even though she was offering me her pink twins shirt in return.
"Go ahead and switch," her husband said, "We won't look."
"Who's not looking?" said my BOL (boyfriend of my life).
"Now you know what to get her for Christmas," her mother said.
"Her birthday is in November," her husband said.
"You are all crazy," I said, "Look at her! She is going home and ordering one tonight!" She stood and screamed as if Paul McCartney had just arrived.
I, however, am contemplating trading for a Leeeeeew shirt.
Great game and great choice for BOD.

I believe Satchel Paige had this year's BitchSox in mind when he said. . .

"Don't look back. . .something might be gaining on you."

Posted by: Gonzo at August 19, 2005 10:49 PM

I was very proud to be wearing my Lew NSMC shirt tonight! It seems to be good luck for him. I've now seen two of Lew's three-run homers in person. Such fun!

Posted by: Nick at August 19, 2005 10:56 PM

LEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

wow, that was beautiful! I was a little nervous, tied at four, but then I noticed that we had two runners on and Lew was up to bat. (and we all know Lew doesn't hit homeruns unless there are two runners on.) and he was due.

thanks, Lew!

Posted by: kafumbly at August 19, 2005 10:59 PM

I believe the Bitches are going to blow it I really do. They are singin like the Beatles now.

"Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue."

Posted by: reggie at August 19, 2005 10:59 PM

I fully expected to see Lew's bright beaming bat-saber glowing when I checked in tonight, and I'm thrilled to see my assumptions validated.

Reggie - we actually want the Bitch Sox to win tonight. I know it's unpalatable, but the Wild Card race and everything...

Posted by: Haplo at August 19, 2005 11:04 PM

Konerko hurt his back in BP tonight. He's day to day.

Everyone, all to gether now... "awwwwwwwwww"

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 19, 2005 11:04 PM

Oh, I should note for the record that right before Lew hit the homer, I yelled, "Use the force, Lew!" It worked.

Posted by: Nick at August 19, 2005 11:05 PM

Nick, you always beat me home so quick.

We were there, and Boo winked at E and me while he was warming up! I swear! He did!

Posted by: aurora at August 19, 2005 11:06 PM

I guess you are right Haplo, but it is very hard to root for them.

Posted by: reggie at August 19, 2005 11:17 PM

Brent Abernathy got the #2 Web Gem for his great play in the 3rd, getting the double play with the throw to first while on his hinder. seriously, I'm having trouble not adding him to my boyfriend list. but gosh, I already have five now, and Tumbleweed has two... maybe Tumbleweed can have three.

yes, yes, it's a cop-out! leave me alone! I love them all! ;-)

Posted by: kafumbly at August 19, 2005 11:22 PM

I can't agree. At this point, the goal is still the Division title. You want the BitchSox to lose as many games as possible as quickly as possible. The wild card will take care of itself so long as the Twins keep winning games/series.

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 19, 2005 11:22 PM

aurora, I even stopped at the grocery store on the way home...

I should note further that a little while after Boo allegedly winked at aurora and E, he totally looked at me. Totally.

Posted by: Nick at August 19, 2005 11:23 PM

Lew hit a dinger? Sweeeet...

Posted by: Torhu at August 19, 2005 11:36 PM

Saints be praised!

I went to the movies when the score was tied 4-4. (You batlings know how hard that was, but I did make these plans a while ago and, well, obligations are important to follow through on)
I did not know if we won until I logged on the BG.
Someone above mentioned "welcome to Bizzaro land"
or something close--yes. I like this land. what the hell--go for the Central Division first!!!

I taped the game--can't wait to see the incredible results.

I happy now!!!

Am I the only one who senses some mojo rising? Posednik is down . . . Konerko is down . . . Garland is suddenly sucking . . . the Twins are beating the Sox like an old rug after the All Star break as usual . . .

Probably just over-inflated optimism and whiskey talking, but stranger things have happened.

Posted by: BadAndy48 at August 20, 2005 12:27 AM

When Lewwww hit his home run, I turned to my family and said, "He's the BOD at batgirl." I'm glad I didn't lie to my family. Way to use the force, Lewwww!

Posted by: Just Beth at August 20, 2005 12:41 AM

for the record, let it be known that the radio in my car sucks. AM stations don't work at all. however, I listened to part of the game on a FM station and heard when Leeeewwwwww scored in the 6th and then the radio station cut out 10 seconds after he went yard in the 7th. my listening time was short, but very sweet.

Posted by: olbiemn at August 20, 2005 12:56 AM

Dear Reggie,

Yes, they are singing that one, along with a number of other Beatles tunes:

I'm a Loser...
Cry Baby Cry...
You Can't Do That...
Help!!...
I'm Down...
Misery...
Run for your Life...
I'll Cry Instead...
I'm So Tired...

Meanwhile, our boys are singing such fine Beatles tunes as:

Come Together...
Here Comes the Sun...
I Will...
I've Got a Feeling...
Good Day Sunshine...
I'm Looking Through You...
Getting Better...
Fixing a Hole...
It Won't Be Long...

And I'm loving every minute of it. ;-)

bubblemint,

I'm just glad the Twins aren't singing "Let it Be."

Posted by: Kurtis at August 20, 2005 01:27 AM

Kurtis,

That reminds me!!

All you need is love...and hitting...and pitching...and defense.
And it all needs to happen at the same time!!

I think Leeeewwwww needs his own song, a la "gasolina" or whatever-have-you. unfortunately, the Imperial March is just not as catchy. Let me consult my uber-dork SO and get back to you.

Posted by: wildchild at August 20, 2005 02:18 AM

PS - Gonzo?? Daaayyyuummm! That's happily fitting. :)

Posted by: wildchild at August 20, 2005 02:23 AM

tell me it's not too late to dream

Posted by: Dan in London at August 20, 2005 02:41 AM

Does anyone else feel we should maybe be rooting for neighbors down in KC? I'm not talking about sending any of our mojo down there, but maybe helping them create some of there own? I'm a firm believer the mojo is not a finite resource.

OK, so, maybe KC breaking their losing streak this weekend would help us as well, but I assure you I'm only thinking of Denny Hocking. If they don't win soon all that negative mojo may become unstable and who knows what could happen.

Besides... well OK fine I just want to make sure they get all their winning for the month out of the way by next weekend.

(Frankly it won't matter as we'll have the Power of Tinger on Labor Day.)

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 20, 2005 03:38 AM

Actualy the song 'Let it Be' is not bad for the Twins resurgence.

Let it be...That the homers continue
Let it be...The Twins swiping away the division once again from the Bitch Sox.
Let it be...El presidente Johan wins his 2nd Cy Young
Let it be...Twins go on to win the World Series

Let it be...Twins all the way!

very true bubblemint

Posted by: reggie at August 20, 2005 09:51 AM

Well deserved LEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!! I dont think there's a better choice for tonight. We were even able to get Silva through 7 innings without breaking 80 pitches.

If we can gain one more game on the bitchsox this weekend, we will be back in control of our own destiny at 9.5 back. 10 games left against em. Let's sweep em all.

Posted by: TwinsInBoston at August 20, 2005 10:33 AM

y'know, not only have all of Lew's home runs been three-run shots, but they've all come with two outs.

crazy.

Posted by: kafumbly at August 20, 2005 10:34 AM

Dear Ms. StP,

Jacque needs you, now more than ever.

Sincerely,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at August 20, 2005 10:49 AM

Dear BG;
You're right. Im' sorry. It was just so painful watching his at-bats last night. But I forgot he is still hurting and that was not my heart talking. I still love you, Jacque.
Love,
Ms. StP

Lew's Theme should be "Geek Boogie" from the 16 Candles soundtrack.

If anyone actually has a copy of that, please email me. It's the best background bumper music ever. :)

Posted by: TD at August 20, 2005 01:33 PM

Never have I posted on here in all of time...but no matter what anyone ever says, Lew Ford is what you call the B.O.D. today...no contest. He could have played the game alone tonight. It would have been more fun to watch. What a hottie. A goober hottie, that is.

Posted by: bean at August 20, 2005 11:14 PM

and when I say today...I mean Saturday. So that makes it two days in a row. Hot.

Posted by: bean at August 21, 2005 12:01 AM

Shouldn't it be Readers/Field, not Field/Readers?

Posted by: curious at August 21, 2005 02:43 PM

Dear Mr./Ms Curious,

Yes. Yes it should.

Gratefully,
