Well, gee, um...

Young Fordwalker has hit three home runs in the last three games for a total of seven runs. Just like bullseyeing womp rats back home.
Readers/Field 17, Sooz/Stewie 13, Jeb/Lewwww 13, Batgirl/ Joe 9, Goober/Dr. Morneau 7.

Posted by: ndtf at August 21, 2005 03:51 PMGood call, darlin'. He certainly stood out this series.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at August 21, 2005 03:52 PMI hope Fordwalker has gained his confidence back. Now that we've got Mauer, LeCroy, and Lew all hitting...hopefully it'll get Morenau back on track too.
Good games all these last few weeks. I don't know what the future holds, but I hope they show this kinda of pepper and spunk to give me something to cheer for the rest of the year.
Posted by: Torhu at August 21, 2005 03:53 PMAs of Friday, Lew has hit in nine different players (including himself) with his homers.
I wish I had the article with me, but it's quite interesting. I THINK if you count Ford as the CF, he's hit in at least one guy for each posistion. (Except pitcher)
Posted by: Torhu at August 21, 2005 03:54 PMgo lew!!
Posted by: Mrs Mauer at August 21, 2005 04:04 PMLEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
What a win
BRING ON THE BITCH SOX!
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at August 21, 2005 04:10 PMI trust B.O.D. Lew understands that (contrary to Larry Poncino's notion) no one was throwing at him.
Posted by: msb at August 21, 2005 04:15 PMDear Mr./Ms. B,
It sure looked like it from here. Is that guy just crazy wild? Batgirl would much prefer that someone was NOT throwing at Lew's head rather than thinking someone was. There is noooo throwing at people's heads allowed on Batgirl.
Sincerely,
BG
I'm glad nobody hurt LEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW today. I am sad that the last two homers he's hit, I've been at work and not able to see them.
Posted by: Patty at August 21, 2005 04:33 PMI'm not a professional lip reader, but that ump sure thought that kid was throwing at him. And he was sure unhappy about the whole thing. He didn't just toss him, he tossed him with ... uh .. emphasis.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at August 21, 2005 04:39 PMThe force is back with LEWWWWWW and the Twins! Yea!
Posted by: Nora at August 21, 2005 04:40 PMClint has pitched 1.1 inning in the bigs this year. He missed a fair amount of time hurt, was been moved to the bullpen in AAA, came up for a quick bullpen fill-in spot against Detroit 2 1/2 weeks ago, was brought in, promptly hit Omar Infante, gave up a run and finished his inning. He then went back to Tacoma. He got the call-up yesterday, & arrived last night very late. FWIW, he says that his foot slipped on the rubber that first pitch; as he hasn't had any history of throwing at guys, really wants a chance to actually pitch to show he should stay around this time, and as his manager sounded genuinely baffled at the call (as opposed to the fake-disbelief we heard postgame when Hasegawa hit a batter in the backside earlier this year), I'm inclined to believe him-- I think it really was an overreaction by Poncino.
btw, you would have appreciated the Non-Sexual Man Love that Lew was getting from former-Mariner Mike Blowers, who does the postgame show in Seattle.
Posted by: msb at August 21, 2005 04:51 PMuuuuuugh, I have NO self control!
I was gone during the game and recorded it, but I had to come here to see if there was a BOD, lol.
Posted by: Stacy at August 21, 2005 05:02 PMDear Mr./Ms. B,
Thank you so much. I'm glad it was just sheer incompetence. Throwing at people's heads=not cool. Seattle Mariners=cool. So it didn't make sense.
Sincerely,
BG
multiple incompetencesesss.
We out here will try to do our best to further slow the White Sox over next weekend; I will also invoke the powers of The Mighty Gwynn... and perhaps young Betancourt can help-- I find that facially he bears a bit of a resemblance to the younger (non-circular) Tony.
Posted by: msb at August 21, 2005 05:09 PMA short time ago, Lew Fordwalker was struggling. He just couldn't seem to do anything but hit ground balls right at infielders. Then one day, at the Dome, he was coming up again, wondering what he needed to do.
He heard a lone voice through the Metrodome crowd: "Lew, use the force."
"Huh?" said Lew.
Louder, and more clearly, Lew heard the voice again: "Lew, use the force."
"Why," said Lew, "it's Nick, a.k.a. 'Nick'!" Then he looked at his bat, and made a stunning realization. "Oh, my BatSaber is turned off. Oops!" He pushed the power button, and the rest, as they say is history.
Epilogue: Lew is also back to his old ways, as he once again makes light saber noises when he pees.
Posted by: Nick at August 21, 2005 05:15 PMGO LEW!!!!
And, I would like to think the solo home run, and both three run home runs (the day before and the day after) were for my birthday. I actually told him his solo home run was a birthday home run! :)
(My birthday was yesterday, August 20th)
GO TWINS!!!
Posted by: Candace at August 21, 2005 05:26 PMI was flipping channels during commercials and noticed that the almighty Tony Gwynn was doing the Little League World Series on ESPN.
Clearly a sign.
Did anyone else think Juan Rincon is trying to channel the spirit of Jeff Reardon with his... beard... thing?
Posted by: Karl at August 21, 2005 05:37 PMon the 'CCO postgame interview, they asked Boo about his facial hair, and he said something about it being superstition having to do with melting down in the playoffs last year. there were people being loud next to me - no, not you, double-a :-) - so I couldn't really hear the whole thing. but I think he said he shaved last year, so he's not shaving this year.
if anyone heard more clearly, please enlighten us!
Posted by: kafumbly at August 21, 2005 05:44 PMoh, and LEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! when he came up to bat, I saw two runners on and two outs, and I giggled and said, "here ya go, Lew!" and he went! yahoo!

The Twins have reportedly claimed Soriano!
Posted by: Torhu at August 21, 2005 05:56 PMDear Mr. Hu,
They reported that in the Strib this morning; they are seeing it as a "block" so other teams don't get him, and do not believe a deal will be amde--but who knows?
Sincerely,
BG
Dear Ms. Fumbly,
As far as BG could tell, Boo didn't shave because of something Dazzle told him after the playoffs, but he didn't want to talk about it because he was susperstitious. It wasn't that clear for those of us who could hear him.
Sincerely,
BG
I was just watching baseball tonight and John Kruk was naming his all big man team.Lecroy made it as the 3B.
Posted by: reggie at August 21, 2005 06:25 PMWell, it certainly seems as if our friend Lew thinks he has something to prove. hmmm. Could it be that he wants to get in Gardy's good graces again?
Personally, I think Gardy should get mad at him more often. Whatever it takes.
Good job, Lew.
k-bro
Posted by: k-bro at August 21, 2005 06:50 PMLew's improved hitting has little to do with Gardy and more to do with him getting to play the position he has played since he was a kid, Centerfield. Gardy deserves no credit for his performance. I would imagine he couldn't care less about good graces either.
Posted by: ZTwins at August 21, 2005 07:12 PMOh, and Oakland just lost the series to the worst team in baseball.
Posted by: ZTwins at August 21, 2005 07:13 PMI agree, Z. Lew is the kind of player who needs to be on the field regularly in order to be comfortable at the plate. and LeCroy has turned it up a notch, too, since he's become the regular DH, rather than just a pinch hitter.
the mlb.com recap of the game gives a good explanation of the Nageotte incident. click my name for the link. really sounds as though it was absolutely an accident; even Gardy saw it that way.
Wow. Stewie better step it up!
Posted by: ndtf at August 21, 2005 07:43 PMDear BG,
Didn't see the Strib this morning. Thanks for the clarification.
from the "wow you really could have kept that to yourself dep't. (PARENTS TURN YOUR BAT-GIRLS AWAY FROM THE SCREEN)
From the AP's game recap-
``The umpire absolutely, totally overreacted,'' Hargrove said. ``He's not throwing at anybody, least of all Lew Ford. If we throw at somebody, we'd throw at Joe Mauer.''
I gasp at the mere thought!
Posted by: Ovie at August 21, 2005 09:03 PMThat tells you a lot about Hargrove. I assume he means taht they would throw at Mauer b/c he absolutely torched the Mariners at the plate. Which is definately an uncool thing to do. I think that there are times when throwing at a batter is acceptable (if done properly--not at their head or anything) but throwing at them b/c they are hitting really well against you isn't cool at all.
Posted by: TBird41 at August 21, 2005 09:13 PMDear Mr. Hargrove,
You are uncool and Batgirl shuns you.
Glaringly yours,
BG
Anyone else get screwed from getting a bobblehead? I got there at 7am and didn't get one... was it just me or did they seem to give out way fewer then past bobblehead games. Seems like every gate had a lot less boxes.
Was really sad to see the family in front of us not get them either. They got there earlier and had brought a group of 12 kids along from a sleepover/birthday party, and none of them got one. Was even sadder when she held up her camera and said "ok bobbleheadless kids, hold up your imaginary bobblehead and say cheese!"
Posted by: Thart at August 21, 2005 11:20 PMDear BG et al,
LLLEEEEWWWWW...! What ever it is that is working so beautifully, well, keep the beam on it.
I love doing my homerun dance when watching at home.
I act more Norwegian when at the dome. It has all been said already but geez it is swell that the boys are hitting, catching, and pitching so well. On Thursday night I was at the dome and told the fellows next to me that all this winning is a welcomed distraction because my summer is ending. I'm a teacher and, well, first day back is the 25th. He laughed and said he teaches social studies up North. We talked Twins and teaching and agreed that civilians don't get how difficult it is to end our summer vacation (and many Twins games)! ANy other batling teachers out there?
To Thart:
the "give aways" drive me nuts. Why can't they just give everyone attending that day one of the bobbleheads, etc.? Might they, then, fill the dome up? I just refuse to sleep on concrete for a toy, even a cool toy. Would they not still be collectables? even if a few more of us had one?
ok, enough-
go Twins!!
kal
I really like the picture. Home run for the Jedi.
Posted by: mcgyver at August 22, 2005 05:20 AMFrom the AP's game recap- ``The umpire absolutely, totally overreacted,'' Hargrove said. ``He's not throwing at anybody, least of all Lew Ford. If we throw at somebody, we'd throw at Joe Mauer.''
and if I might just clarify -- on the radio postgame locally they actually played the whole cut and when Hargrove said they were not throwing at Lew, a reporter made the crack about throwing at Mauer instead. Hargrove did laugh and add the line about Mauer, but it wasn't serious. I was pleased to hear Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew's quote ""I was surprised," Ford said. "I didn't think he was throwing at me.""
Posted by: msb at August 22, 2005 11:00 AMoverheard on ESPN radio yesterday: The Rangers attempted to get 2B Alfonso Soriano through waivers, but he was claimed (or blocked, depending how you look at it) by.. the Minnesota Twins. They now have (x number of ) hours to work out a trade or pull him back.
Probably just a block strategy, but still. JC and Mays, maybe? Big BIG contract by Twins standards, but astoundingly talented dude.
JC can't be traded because he failed to make it through waivers, according to ESPN.com. However, I would think that Mays did, and a subtle throw in like Boof Bonser or perhaps even "The real deal" Durbin could get it done. Rivas, anyone?
