For all the cat lovers here, check out the first piece of "In The News" on the right-hand side of The Onion's web site. Hilarious.

Sorry for my sad, sad, ignorance, but who is the cartoon guy? Not Bobby, but the other cartoon guy in the lower picture?

Posted by: NIH at July 28, 2005 03:04 PM

Dear Ms. H,

That is Syndrome from The Incredibles, which if you haven't seen, you really must.

Helpfully,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 28, 2005 03:23 PM

Dear Batgirl,

Thanks for the information. I fear I am already losing ground on keeping my label as a "cool dad".

Not knowing this obviously mainstream cultural figure named "Syndrome" was my first wake up call.

Having my ignorance lead you to believe I am an unwed woman, that was my second wake up call.

I think I am going to spend the weekend watching MTV....and crying.

Pathetically,

NIH

I see a close personal friend of Bat-girl is getting more deserved props on ESPN.

Woohoo!

Dearest Mr. H,

Please forgive Batgirl. Keeping track of the genders of Batlings is sometimes quite difficult. As for marital status, why, Batgirl is married but a "Ms.," so it is possible BG mistook you for a married woman.

Now go rent The Incredibles. You'll feel better.

Sincerely,
Ms. BG

NIH,

Sorry to hear you are feeling low over the loss of your cool dadness. I hope to offer you some comfort in the notion that in losing such a lofty title, you may have in fact, lost nothing at all. Acccording to my sources, cool dads do not actually exist, ever, anywhere. Especially, once the progeny of any potential cool dad reaches thirteen years of age and the true nature of father and motherhood can be examined by the cold hard light of adolescence.

Now, on occasion, cool dads might seem to exist, but this is due to an anachronysm of the teen/preteen vocabulary. For example, often when a suspected cool dad opens his wallet, extract his remaining cash, and gives it to a child, the child responds with the phrase "Cool dad!". Alas, this use of the adjective "cool" is not being applied to the dad, but rather to the cash and the potential results of spending the cash. We fathers wishing so heartily for the praise of our children, often misinterpret.

I hope you can find a Zen like liberation in this assurance that you have not so much lost a treasured item, but have rather gained in wisdom.

Posted by: Neil at July 28, 2005 04:31 PM

Dear Batgirl,

There is no way anyone could expect you to remember, or deduct successfully, the genders of all your batlings. I think I was just using your innocent use of "Ms." as a springboard to catapult my inadequacies upon you and your readers. You are a wonderful distraction from my workday and it would break my heart if I thought I made you sad for even a second.

Neil- thank you for the pep talk. You are right, cool dads don't exist. And if your kids are teenagers and still think you are cool, you are probably doing something wrong or illegal. Anyways, with another daughter on the way within the next few weeks I am going to start working on becoming the "Scary Dad", which includes wearing a wife beater, drinking whisky from a jug, and cleaning my shotgun on the front porch whenever any boy steps within 100 yards of my house.

Anyways, I think you talked me off the ledge. Good. Now I don't have to watch MTV all weekend. I can concentrate on the Twins and the trade deadline.

Thanks again,

NIH

"...I am going to start working on becoming the "Scary Dad"..."

ROTFL!
Scary dad's are waaaaay cooler than cool dads... in the eyes of other dad's.

Congratulations on the baby girl!

Posted by: Neil at July 28, 2005 05:11 PM

Uncanny. I can't get past it.

Posted by: Jeb at July 28, 2005 05:35 PM

ahh! creepy! i love how we always find things/people/cartoons that look like the players... like juan rincon as boo berry... and i just flipped through the archives and found joe nathan and lewww, as well. maybe they are clones!

I'm Mister Heat Blister

Thanks, heraldguy.

Great minds think alike and all...

BG (and Neil), check out the Batcave (Misc Photos) from a couple of days ago. I did the exact same thing with these two pictures!

Posted by: twink at July 28, 2005 07:56 PM

Wow, I thought that was Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. What the hell do I know?

Posted by: Donnalove at July 28, 2005 10:14 PM

I see this particular uncanny resemblance has made its way to the front page of Page 2. Props!

Posted by: henderson at July 29, 2005 05:41 PM

Dear Mr/Ms Henderson,

Yes, BG found it so striking she sent it on.

Sincerely,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 29, 2005 05:41 PM

I'm sure this was discussed earlier, but did someone notice the "circle me bert" sign with the batgirl logo being shown in game 2 against the Yanks. That was pretty cool.

Posted by: Brundlefly at July 29, 2005 05:42 PM

Yes, Brundlefly, that was Kafumbly's hands!!! LaurieNY was to her right, and NY-Brian and DrJane were to her left (although you couldn't see them)

Posted by: heraldguy at July 29, 2005 05:42 PM

Suddenly I feel so close to them all. In a BG sort of way.

Posted by: brundlefly at July 29, 2005 05:43 PM

Dear Mr. Fly,

You can see a picture at the bottom of "Suck No More!"

Helpfully,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 29, 2005 05:44 PM

I should have known! I'll try to keep up in the future. Sorry BG. I will be at Monday's Oakland game with supernatural on the mound though. I'll be wearing last year's Santana/Nathan 04 shirt. Hopefully I can get a little face time on FSN.

Posted by: Brundlefly at July 29, 2005 05:44 PM

Speaking of cool dads. Scott Baker left in the seventh inning of a shutout to be with his wife for their first child yesterday. He didn't get the win, but he got a baby boy named Elijah. Congratulations Scott! I have a feeling we'll be seeing you real soon. Rochester won 1-0.

Phil Michaels posted about this uncanny resemblence a while back at Idiots Write About Sports (sports.intertext.com) which is my other favorite Baseball weblog.

'Course the resemblance is only getting stronger the longer Kielty grows his hair out.
