Game Thread: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Okay, Bradke, honey, I want you to really focus in that first inning for Batgirl, okay?

Dear Twins:

I am asking for three things to happen tonight:

1. To Bradke: Dear boyfriend, please don't give up runs in the first inning. Even better, don't give up runs in any inning.
2. To Batters: Please provide some run support for my boyfriend Brad.
3. To Bullpen: If you are given the ball while the team ahead, please hold and save the lead for my boyfriend Brad.

Yours,
k-bro

Posted by: k-bro at April 30, 2005 05:02 PM

I forsee a scoreless first inning for the LAAoA.

Posted by: Miss Cleo at April 30, 2005 05:10 PM

Isn't Bradke usually really good against the LAAoA. Wait...wait..New year...Different Radke...I hope he will hall ass on that team from 2 different cities. And that the Cuddliest of DJ's continues his hitting streak

Posted by: Bojanglescrain at April 30, 2005 05:34 PM

Dear Mr. Radke,

Due to recent events, we shall start this game at the second inning. Have a great game.

Shack

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 30, 2005 05:50 PM

Something in regards to Cuddyer. Despite his early season troubles, his avg. is still only .021 behind Torii, which leads me to two possible conclusions. A)We've been riding Cuddy a little unnecessarily. or B) Both of those dudes need to get their asses in gear.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 05:52 PM

I like choice B).

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 05:54 PM

Dear BG,

Et tu, Andy Rooney? Caught the bloggers minute on the pre-game...my gawd, hon, 'cco???? You need to be on KQ, where you can let your Sass rock. Ilove you too much to endure the monotones of Steve Ass-Bat-Head Thompson.

Oh

Posted by: oh at April 30, 2005 05:59 PM

I'm so sick of seeing people that are not Dick & Bert on MLB tv!!!

Posted by: fliphed at April 30, 2005 06:02 PM

Bradke,

Keep the (Donkey) pitch in the clubhouse in the first inning. Do it for the kids.

The Bat Kingdom

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:04 PM

Flip--ME TOO!! What does MLB.TV have against Dick and Bert? Why do they torture us so??

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:04 PM

That monkey scares the bejeezus out of me.

FREE TIFFEE!

Posted by: Adam at April 30, 2005 06:05 PM

Let's hear it for Torii Hunter, 4-Time Gold Glove winner!!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:07 PM

Bradke's given up half of all of his runs in the 1st inning - that trend must stop!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:10 PM

ok, the mental giant that is the play by play guy just said about Torii "Now all he's got to do is play first base and win one [a gold glove] at 1st base, like our guy [erstad]"

Ummm, you sir are an idiot. please never talk again.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:11 PM

Well said. For the love of....

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:12 PM

Bad, Bradke! Bad! Time for a little GIDP! Chone Figgins, that has to be on the all-time bad name list...

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:13 PM

Yes, because being moved to first base from the outfield usually reflects positively on one's fielding ability. I thought the Bitch Sox announcers were bad.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:13 PM

Hey, KC won today. Good for those guys.

More importantly, I heartily agree with y'all: Bradke can just get a 1-2-3 1st, OK?

Now I have to run (agony!), but hope to catch the end of the game.

Posted by: AT at April 30, 2005 06:13 PM

Man, I just looked and we play the LAAoA a lot this year. 10 games altogether.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 06:14 PM

Just get something rolling to an infielder! I noticed LNP is in the lineup again today, Gardy has really been blasting Rivas in the paper. The predictions of Luis's demise have NOT been greatly exaggerated!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:16 PM

Well, that's not a bad result from Vlad. It was a DP-type ball, anyway, just in the wrong spot.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:17 PM

Today Reusse had an article where Gardy said Luis was really working hard, etc...he must have stepped things up.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:18 PM

Ryan, great point about Hunter, he's toying with the Mendoza Line, I don't like it. I will admit however, we have been hard on Cuddyer, it doesn't help that Koskie hit one out today too.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:18 PM

Whew! NO RUNS!!!

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:19 PM

SCORELESS FIRST!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:20 PM

Never doubt me.

Posted by: Miss Cleo at April 30, 2005 06:21 PM

BG, I saw that also, but methinks Gardy's comments are obligatory, the smile that hides the rows of teeth. The unrealized potential is really hard to swallow.

Finally, we get out of the first with no damage!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:21 PM

Is anyone else having difficulty viewing the game on UPN? All i am getting is a rather broken up still of "Enterprise"...

Posted by: collegeboy at April 30, 2005 06:22 PM

It's looking fine to me.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:23 PM

Sily me... I should have known to check FSN when it is listed as UPN... I am watching the game now, so all is well.

Posted by: collegeboy at April 30, 2005 06:23 PM

How did Bartlett get on?

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:24 PM

Nice walk from Bartlett. Does anyone know why he hasn't been doing any running once he gets on? I heard he was a great base-stealer in the minors.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:25 PM

He walked

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:25 PM

I've lived off of MLB.com gameday, this is the first game I've seen on UPN. I called Comcast the other day about upgrading to get the package that includes FSN, and they want another $25 a month. I think I'll stick with what I've got - I wouldn't watch enough games to justify MLB.TV either.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:25 PM

That'll teach me to talk about him being a good baserunner. Dammit.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:25 PM

Wow, what a throw - from his knees -

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:26 PM

ANNNNNDDDD the Angels' announcers have been muted.

For the love of all things good and right, why won't MLB.TV use the Twins broadcast???

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:27 PM

Escobar appears to be the anti-Bradke in terms of control and velocity.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:28 PM

Ever notice that the Dr's little pre-pitch routine is almost identical to Torii's?? Little bounce of the bat off the shoulder -

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:28 PM

Smack a big one Doc.

'Ol Kelvim seems to be shying away from our hitters, per Gamecast.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 06:28 PM

THE DOCTOR IS IN!!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:29 PM

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 06:29 PM

Yeeeeeeessss Yessssssssssss YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 06:29 PM

Wow. They annouced the HR at 456 feet.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:30 PM

So, you suppose Bud Black told Escobar to "throw strikes"? I like long strikes to the upper deck...

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 30, 2005 06:31 PM

Bradke is so far unscathed, the Doc has hit a dinger and my mommy sent me a Santana shirt. So far, this day has authoritatively kicked ass.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 06:33 PM

456 Feet? WOW!! I love having a legitimate, I'm gonna hit the ball to Manitoba Power hitter.

Though, I wonder how many moose antlers is 456 feet.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:34 PM

Nice job Cuddy.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:34 PM

Let's keep it up, then! for RYAN!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:34 PM

One of my favorite sights is when the ball comes off the Doctor's bat like that, and the only question is whether it will reach the upper deck.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:35 PM

I wish more people had that sort of mentality.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 06:35 PM

Killebrew hit one 520 feet on June 3, 1967 at the old Met - I wonder if a ball like that would hit the curtain in the upper deck? That tater by the doctor looked a lot like a vintage Hrbek shot.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:36 PM

Mmm.....tater.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:37 PM

Nick, you are making me cry.

Nothing worse than living out of market and never getting to see it for myself.

*sob*

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 06:38 PM

I'm going to call it right now. Doc bats over .400 for the season. Triple Crown? Perhaps...

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 06:38 PM

456 feet = 87 moose antlers.

Posted by: Adam at April 30, 2005 06:39 PM

I'm sorry, Eric. I wish to project only happy feelings. Try to catch SportsCenter tonight. :-)

Wow, Dick just said that JJ is among the league leaders in BB.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:40 PM

That's a very telling stat on JJ - I think he's becoming the offensive player many thought he could be.

Oh, and he's in a contract year.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:41 PM

I think they go to commrcial on SC when Twins highlights get rolled. Right after they interview the batboys for the Yanks and Red Sox.

About Barry Bonds.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 06:43 PM

Is it just me, or is molina having problems catching Escobar? It seems like he's dropping a lot of pitches

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:43 PM

bitchsox losing early 1-0

Posted by: NoVaNick at April 30, 2005 06:46 PM

New glove maybe? ;)

Posted by: Backstop at April 30, 2005 06:46 PM

It seems Chone "Chone" Figgins' name is pronounced like Chone "Shawn" Figgins.

Posted by: Adam at April 30, 2005 06:47 PM

Wow, that's an amazing stat. Bradke is third all-time among AL pitchers in fewest BB/9 innings.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:48 PM

Man, I think that turf at the Humpty Dome is ugly!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:48 PM

Radke may have not given up any runs in the 1st, but he's not doing much to improve his BAA.

Posted by: Adam at April 30, 2005 06:49 PM

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morneau still should've had that one!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:49 PM

Seeing "Chone" reminds me of churro... perhaps its because I live to close to a Mexican restaurant.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 06:50 PM

grrr....

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 06:50 PM

VERY happy to see LNP in the lineup again today!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 06:51 PM

Was it just me or did Chone "Shawn" Figgins slide into Bartlett more so than the base? It looked like his legs were pointed at the RF fence as he slid in.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:52 PM

By the way, outstanding comment by Dick about the TC on the helmet/cap vs. the "M"

Old school is better!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:54 PM

Yeah, TBird, he kinda did. But that's called even less often than throwing yourself in front of a pitch. ;-)

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 06:54 PM

I'm shocked, today, by the way. I suddenly have found myself AGREEING with BUD SELIG!

He wants a 50 game ban for a first time offense of violating the steroid rule, and a lifetime ban after 3. Now that's being properly tough!

What is the world coming to? Bud making sense? The world is looking all wierd.....

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 06:56 PM

Dome gods take one away, then give one back.

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 06:56 PM

That was priceless - as the ball is rolling past the pitcher, Dick says, "Hit the bag"...

Sure enough, we've got a little first and third with one out!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:56 PM

Way to go Little Joe!!!

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 06:57 PM

As long as he's within reach of the base, they won't call it...

2b and ss were both lucky not to get hit in the head by the ball after it hit the base btw...

Posted by: Backstop at April 30, 2005 06:57 PM

Woo hoo Chairman!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 06:58 PM

Brian, every time you think that, just remember how many years it took him to do that, and why he might be doing it now.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 06:58 PM

Yeah, I didn't think they'd call it, just thought it looked more blatent than most "breakup" slides.

And yeah Chairman!!

Now Justin, hit one to the Yukon Territory!

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 06:59 PM

NY-Brian:

As much as I would like to agree and not be cynical, I can't help but feel Bud is reacting to the heat that has been put on him.

He was made to look the fool at the congressional hearings, like the parent who looks the other way when the kids are messing around. I think he is merely trying to save face with this plan.

But the intentions will not bother me at all in favor of stiffer penalties. I like the plan, myself.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 07:02 PM

So close Torii....so CLOSE.

Man he hit that hard.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:02 PM

So I was at last year's Anaheim games, where Figgins was first debuting and it seems clear to me that Chone Figgins OWNz us.

Still I like this game, it feels tense yet with equally matched teams.

Posted by: Mimiru at April 30, 2005 07:02 PM

I believe in my pregame soliloquy, I said that it was time for Torii to get his ass in gear. Sure its nice to see him smoke one every now and then, but sometimes, it's better to loop one into center field to.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 07:04 PM

Rad Brad tonight!

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 07:07 PM

Bradke's grooving...

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 07:07 PM

looking at MacPherson on MLB.... how are people that ugly allowed to be on TV? Seems like it would incite riots.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 07:07 PM

Don't get me started on flippin' Selig... I'm not his biggest fan but I will refrain from using inappropriate language describing my disdain. I'll never forget the interview on CCO during contraction season and absolutely condescended to the callers. MLB is hurting because of his ineffective, comical leadership. The NFL and NBA (to some extent) are successful because of their commissioners as much as anything.

Am I the only one who pines for the TC stirrups on the uniform pants??!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:07 PM

Anyone still hate the Angels just for those stupid inflatable thundersticks they beat at games?

I still remember them from the pennant a few years back...

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 07:08 PM

Ryan--obviously a hit is preferable to an out, even if the hit is a texas leaguer and the out is a crushed line drive.

When a hitter starts smashing the ball, even if it's caught, that's usually a good sign--they're seeing the ball well and hitting it hard and are just getting unlucky.

The problems come when they are unlucky and start to change their approach/swing/whatever. Dougie used to do that all the time--its why he would get into crazy bad slumps.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:09 PM

Oh, Lew!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:12 PM

Toad ball? Or did dazzle say something else?

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 07:12 PM

It just seems that he's been an every day player for so long he would have developed the art of bat control... he's such an asset on the basepaths. But you're right, he shouldn't change his approach, even though it seems like he's already slumping with more ferocity than any other Twin after last nights performance from Cuddy.

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 07:12 PM

I love Lew. But he needs to do a little work on taking that last big step into first. This isn't the first time he's taken a spill. :-)

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 07:12 PM

BG--MLB.TV must be behind the real broadcast, b/c your post was way before Lew got up. Definately a play worthy of "Oh, Lew!" though.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:13 PM

Shouldn't we blame the Japanese for those thundersticks? ;)

I like the new anti-drugs plan, you need harsh penalties, even for first time offences. (the standard in my league is a one year suspension for the first offense). The only thing the NFL and NBA do better in relation to drugs is PR. But that's nothing new of course, their PR is better on all fronts.

Selig is bad for baseball, as are the 'give us a hand-out, please?' millionair owners.

Posted by: Backstop at April 30, 2005 07:14 PM

Dick/Bert were right... Lew's lucky he didn't snap his ankle on that little move at first. Then just to prove he's OK, he goes and steals 2nd. That's our boy!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:16 PM

LNP!!! LNP!!!!

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:17 PM

Nothing that Selig/McCombs do or say should surprise anyone, given their pre-team-ownership vocations.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:18 PM

Oh, Little Nicky!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:18 PM

Face it, Selig isn't a commissioner, he's an owner's bobo.

Baseball needs a commissioner who really cares about the integrity of the game. Someone once mentined Bob Costas.

And, on a personal note, I feel ill about being in agreement with Sid "Grandpa Sports" Hartman that the new stadium plan is workable.

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 07:19 PM

FYI, Los Tigres up 2-1 on the Bitch Sox.

Wow, Escobar is really losing it.

Little Nicky Punto is my non-sexual man-crush

Posted by: IcePhoenix at April 30, 2005 07:20 PM

Was it Jim Bouton in Ball Four that said the Commissioner basically works for the owners and we shouldn't expect anything better from him?

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:20 PM

Has anyone else noticed the contrast b/w Stewart and LEWWWWWWW (the two potential left fielders)? I mean, Stewart is the ultimate professional that everyone seems to take for granted, LEEEEWWWWWW is the bumbling goofy adorkable fan favorite.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:20 PM

Or how about BatGirl for commissioner?

How about it, BG? You want the job?

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 07:20 PM

I didn't realize there was any 'basically' about it. I thought the commissioner represented the owners the way that lawyer whose name I always forget represents the players' union.

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 07:22 PM

Great comments by BG and heraldguy. BTW, this is the Bradke we've come to know and love.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:23 PM

I couldn't be any worse, really.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:24 PM

NY-Brian, where do you live?

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 07:25 PM

Wow, that's the second routine-but-spectacular-gee-I-don't-miss-Guzman-and-his-infected-toenails-putout I've seen this game.

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:25 PM

I don't know, which is worse...

"Chone" Figgins, or "Nook" Logan?

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 07:25 PM

I always thought that the commissioner was supposed to be the representative for baseball--not on the owners side, not on the players side, but on the side of baseball. Kind of an independant leader/mediator who acts in the best interests of baseball.

Bud Selig does not fit that defination.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:25 PM

Today on 'CCO Steve Thompson and Jack Morris were talking about the proposal and Steve asked Jack if he thought there was any change Don Fehr (that lawyer ass who reps the Players Union) would pass it, and Jack said, "I expect him to reject it, and I think he's an ass for doing so."

It was beautiful.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:26 PM

Donald Fehr?

It's obvious he's working for the owners, and as long as he does, he will be maintained.
But it is such a shame, with the right positive promotion baseball could have a lot better image then it has now. Everything they touch turns into a PR nightmare.

Posted by: Backstop at April 30, 2005 07:26 PM

Can you say the Doctor is on his way to a CYCLE???!

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:32 PM

Sorry i'm late on this discussion (halfassedly studying for finals) but has anyone seen Harold and Kumar go to White Castle? Selig seems like the cop in that movie. He couldn't hang out with the Harold/Kumar types in high school, so now he is being an ass to the Harold/Kumar types now. Bud Selig couldn't have fun or be a baseball player, so he's being an ass to those who can and are.

By the way, I'm out of work, I can commission for a while. I've got job experience as a guy people hate (I've been a referee, getting a degree in meteorology in two weeks) where do I apply?

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 07:33 PM

There's an interesting article at http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/history/mlb_history_people.jsp?story=com about how baseball has tried to "clean its own house" throughout history. When first established, "... the new Commission was broadly empowered to 'investigate, either upon complaint or upon his own initiative, an act, transaction or practice, charged, alleged or suspected to be detrimental to the best interest of the national game of baseball, (and to determine and take) any remedial, preventive or punitive action (he deemed appropriate).' The Agreement also expressly provided that the Commissioner's decisions would be final and could not be challenged by the clubs in court."

Amazing what someone can find on commercial breaks.

OK, I don't know about anyone else, but I think that monkey stays up the way it has been helping. I don't care if we aren't playing the Angels.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 07:39 PM

Laurie-

Actually, I usually just listen to the CCO broadcast. I cant afford cable, I'm an actor! :) And I work for MLB.com, which is where I am now. So where do you live in NYC?

And how did you get into the Twins being from here?

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 07:39 PM

It would be hard to take down, certainly.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:39 PM

I remember hitting a triple once in softball. They had to bring out the defibrillator

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 07:39 PM

So, did Bradke go serve up gopher balls for batting practice? He's looked really sharp all game.

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 07:42 PM

Stewart should've had that...

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:42 PM

Ah, Brian, so you in a way work for Drayton McLane, huh? LOL I did for a while too.

Hey, if you answer the phones to "irate" customers, I may have spoken to you when I called complaining that MLB.TV won't lift the blackout for Mets fans in NYC despite our current cable woes.

Anyway I have only been a Twins fan since 2001, when my good friend Rick Reed was traded there. But the big test was when he left... and lo and behold, I'm STILL a Twins fan!

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 07:45 PM

I've got to say that this Pontiac G6 commercial on UPN is second in stupidity only to any Mitsubishi commercial made in the last 12 months...

Posted by: BW at April 30, 2005 07:45 PM

All right, ladies and gents and other miscellaneous Batlings, I've got free dinner and a Saturday night tradition to take care of. I'll see you all tomorrow! Go Twins!

Posted by: Ryan at April 30, 2005 07:50 PM

Batgirl would like to point out that on MPR in Feb., she predicted "The Year of Little Nicky Punto."

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:51 PM

So I've got the Nats-Mets game on in the background and it just started POURING here in DC. And all I can think about is how much more fun that game would be if they had a roof at RFK and how much it's gotta suck to be sitting in the pouring rain.

They better put a roof on the the new stadium.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:51 PM

Looks as if LNP wants to play every day.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 07:51 PM

Yeah, TBird. It's been pouring since the top of the 5th. I thought they would stop the game but they obviously wanted to get this one in (and thus ensure yet another Mets loss...)

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 07:53 PM

Fine by me.

(LNP, not the Mets.)

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:54 PM

Snaps, Cuddy.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:55 PM

Laurie isn't it official after 5 innings though (and thus already official?

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:55 PM

Well, it looks like Cuddyer is starting to step up at the plate and the field. That was a great play by DJ

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 07:56 PM

Oh yeah, it's official. But since it only started really pouring in the top of the 5th, they weren't going to stop it then. So they kept playing to make it official.

And the tarp just went on, so I'm 100% with the rest of you Batlings...

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 07:57 PM

Very glad to have you, Laurie.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 07:58 PM

Detroit leading the Bitch Sox 3-1 in the sixth, though the Bitches have two runners on.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 07:59 PM

Oh, man. Go Tigers!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:00 PM

Hahaha, I'm not cheating on the Twins anymore now! I'm 100% faithful till the tarp comes off, then I go back to being a baseball trollop.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:00 PM

As long as you're a trollop for good, Laurie. Instead of evil.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:01 PM

Laurie-

Actually I work in the stats division, keeping live stats for the minor league games. Today I have Jason Giambi in one of my games in Birmingham...

I, too, am a Mets fan as well, picking them up upon my move to NYC - hate the Yankees, need a local team. Yeah Dougie!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:02 PM

I'm thinking LNP may be the *real* rally monkey, except he usually takes the form of a kitty.

That's my theory of evolution.

Posted by: Franorama at April 30, 2005 08:02 PM

I like that David Wright kid the Mets have at third.

Solid player for a kid his age.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:03 PM

white sox had bases loaded and nobody out--and didnt score. They have what the twins had.

Posted by: Dino at April 30, 2005 08:04 PM

Bitches loaded the bases with no outs, then Konerko lined into an unassisted double play at third (wish I had seen that...), followed by a strikeout!! Yay Tiggers!

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:04 PM

Marvelous. May they have it the rest of the season.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:06 PM

Ok, the color guy for the Angels keeps refering to how Mauer was an elite 3 sport star in High School--football, baseball and hockey.

Now, I might be wrong about this, but didn't Mauer play basketball in HS? I know "everybody" in MN plays hockey, but I swear Mauer played in the state basketball tournament and thus, didn't play hockey.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 08:06 PM

Oh, the humanity... LOOK OUT FOR HIS KNEE!!!

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:06 PM

I'm a good trollop!! Good choice, Brian. The Yankees are Satan in Pinstripes. Jason Giambi left the game today due to a cramp in his right forearm. (No prizes for guessing how he got THAT. Sorry, was that gross?) Is it Jeremy you have?

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:07 PM

Wow, I like this Venezuelan reporter...

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 08:07 PM

Stuck here in the Windy City, I am forced to watch Twins games online and cheer against the Bitch Sox (with the TV muted of course).

So anyway, the Tigers lead 3-1 but the Sox load the bases with nobody out. Konerko rips a line drive down the 3rd base line. Snared by the 3B who steps on the bag. One Timo Perez K later, I am one happy man.

Does it get any better than that?

Posted by: Serial Thrilla at April 30, 2005 08:08 PM

hahaha

Angels TV guy just said that the Angels would like to turn Morneau's name around and have 'no more.'

Hi everyone, good game so far. Let's hope this isn't the start of a halos rally...

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:08 PM

(Yes, basketball!)

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:09 PM

Well the Twins definitely win tonight's prize for the best looking interview guest...

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:09 PM

Ummm, not to state the obvious but it looks like it's time for the Boo-meister.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:09 PM

It's kinda weird watching on MLB.TV and reading this game thread, b/c MLB.TV is behind the radio/TV broadcast.

When I read sacky's post "Let's hope this isn't the start of a halos rally" I was like "huh, what rally? Oh crap, that sucks."

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 08:10 PM

Jesus, did I say Jason?

Mucho multitasking.

So are you in NYC proper, or somewhere in the hinterlands of outstate?

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:10 PM

I am in Queens, proud home of the Mets.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:11 PM

Wow, Vlad almost lost his shoes on that swing.

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:13 PM

Let's hope the Tigers can hold it together tonight. They almost ruined my night last night.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:14 PM

This is a little out of nowhere, but when do you folks think the long-term contract talk will begin with Mauer and/or Morneau?

Hopefully not soon, but the time will come...

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:14 PM

One of the many reasons I adore Bradke: He leaves the game having thrown 97 pitches, 75 for strikes. Is that even possible (well, I mean for other pitchers)?

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:14 PM

Sit down, Vladibitch!

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:14 PM

I live in Queens! Astoria....where all the actors are....

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:15 PM

Safe to say that Boo's last outing was a fluke. Way to go Boo!!

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 08:16 PM

Vladibitch?

Oh, my stomach. The pain from the laughter!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:18 PM

Boo was on fire. Way to get ahead of those hitters, Boo!

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:18 PM

It's the monkey, people... I'm tellin' ya...

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:18 PM

How funny! I'm in Forest Hills. How did Birmingham do tonight, BTW?

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:18 PM

Hey, there are plenty of actors in Brooklyn too. Not as many Twins fans.

Posted by: Onionface at April 30, 2005 08:20 PM

Hey, there are plenty of actors in Brooklyn too. Not as many Twins fans.

Posted by: Onionface at April 30, 2005 08:20 PM

I loved that kid they just showed in the Twinkie suit. Too funny.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:20 PM

Anyone know tonight's paid attendance?

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:21 PM

There can't possibly be another New Yorker here...

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:21 PM

Hi east coast people. I see more Twins caps and tshirts here in Boston than you might think.

Posted by: Mark at April 30, 2005 08:22 PM

Gotta be the monkey.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

Same here in CT. See the occasional Twins fan. Especially at Rock Cats games!

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

...'cause he CAN'T DRIVE 55!!!

Wooooo Speed Demon!!!!

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

Kevin Gregg was heard to say "DOH"!!!

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

Sweeeeeeeeetcheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

The Twins are America's Team.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:23 PM

And I think we just saw the reason why people weren't really complaining about Torii as much as his low batting average seemed to warrant.

He is ridiculously good at stealing bases.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 08:24 PM

Birmingham is destroying Chatanooga 8-0 in the 5th. They scored all 8 runs in the 2nd inning.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:24 PM

And after all that fabulousness, a silly gaffe.

Posted by: Nick at April 30, 2005 08:24 PM

Hunter looked safe. It was awfully close.

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:25 PM

Bitch sox tied it up in the 7th. Damn!

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:26 PM

AHHHHH!!! Why do the Twins keep making stupid mistakes like that? They're the Twins--they aren't supposed to make stupid baserunning mistakes!

And now Torii is cradling his wrist---that's not good...

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 08:26 PM

With that Jones hit, Cuddy only starter not to have 1.

Posted by: NoVaNick at April 30, 2005 08:26 PM

Sacky, I thought so too. Didn't at first, but the replay looked awfully close. Hope he's OK.

The tarp is off in DC... remote getting a workout again.

BTW B-Sox just went ahead 4-3

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:27 PM

And in the time it took me to post that, they scored again, 4-3 bitchsox. Come on, Tiggers...make it stop!

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:28 PM

Grrrr....Tigers....come on Dmitri!
(The last time I will say that...ever....!)

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:28 PM

So nobody heard the Twins' attendance? Sounds like a good crowd.

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:28 PM

I don't think they've said yet!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:29 PM

31,750

Posted by: NoVaNick at April 30, 2005 08:29 PM

Brian, now you sound like a Met fan. Dmitri Young is one player I am NOT sad to see the back of. I hope he never again comes back to the NL. He made our lives miserable for years.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:30 PM

Tbird, what he does in Centerfield isn't bad either.. I mean remember how shocked we were that he actually got an error!?!? his very first one?!

We certainly had our issues with Cuddy's batting but it was combined with simply not living up to the abilities to field his base that we all knew he had!

And sorry I couldn't join you guys until now!!! Man I wish I could have seen more than three pitches from Brad. *SIGH*

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 30, 2005 08:30 PM

Thanks, NoVaNick!

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:31 PM

"Astoria....where all the actors are...."

Geez, it's New York. You can't wheel a semi-conscious heroin addict in a stolen shopping cart more than half way down any block in this city without bumping into an actor, as those of us who have tried it will attest . Studios that's another story.

Here's all anybody needs to know: Astoria= Flaming Cheese, Beer Garden and MMI (nee AMMI).

Posted by: Flitcraft at April 30, 2005 08:31 PM

Babs, we need more chicks in here! I think it's just been Laurie and I.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:31 PM

That Venezuelan reporter is sure getting a lot of airtime tonight.

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:32 PM

Yeah, Babs, Cuddy's fielding definately didn't help either. Probably why no one seems to like Corky "Corky" Miller either--can't hit, can't catch.

Now hopefully the VP can have a quick 1-2-3 ninth so I can take a shower and head out.

Posted by: TBird41 at April 30, 2005 08:33 PM

sorry, BG. My sincerest apologies. I was attempting to develop what is laughingly referred to as my social life.

On that note, Hitchhikers' Guide to Galaxy is hilarious and we should see if we can get movie passes for Lew.. He would LOVE it.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 30, 2005 08:33 PM

JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOE

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:33 PM

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:34 PM

Way to field that bat, Joe!!!

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

Forgive me, Twink, your name is difficult to parse.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

I'm supposed to be working and instead I'm watching 2 baseball games and following another.

Lucky for Cabrera Joe Nathan is not a homicidal maniac like Clemens, huh?

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

ok.. totally girly moment for the outnumbered chicks..

*sigh* my boyfriend is just the dreamiest.... don't you think he just HOT??!!?!?

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

Are all chicks who dig baseball in Minnesota?

All I ever hear is... "Ewwwww, you watch baseball? That's booooring..."

Yeeesh.

Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

A chick, but a quiet chick at the moment... relaxing in the wonder that is the Nathanest of Nathans.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 30, 2005 08:36 PM

geez, what's all the rumbling on the MLB.TV audio? Do the Twins fans have those wretched thundersticks or something? I thought maybe a jet was overhead at the dome...

Posted by: sacky at April 30, 2005 08:37 PM

Woot!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:37 PM

For my chick moment of the evening, I must say Jacque is looking especially tasty tonight. (Hey, you guys had Miss Venezuela...)

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:38 PM

Face it Eric, Minnesota chicks rule.

Joe, don't field with your pitching hand!!!

Nice play, by the way

Yeah, I need to find me one of these baseball chicks.... ;)

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 30, 2005 08:38 PM

SEEEE !!!!???

THAT's why Joe's my boy... thanks for getting the shirt up there for me BG. I am so exited!!! when I get the other orders together, I will be putting in my stuff. I can hardly sit still!!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 30, 2005 08:38 PM

Hey, NY City chick here!!

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:39 PM

Wow, Nathan was really flashing the leather tonight.

First he fields the bat, then the nice play to end the game

Anyway, I'm out---it was another enjoyable experience here at BG. Thanks yall!

Eric, there are a ton of female Red Sox fans. Of course, the problem is that they're Red Sox fans with the associated baggage...

I think FSN should give Miss Santanamania the ladies baseball show that Jodi Mientkiewicz was reportedly after.

Posted by: Franorama at April 30, 2005 08:40 PM

And I'm trying to spread the love around a bit, Eric...took my baseball obsession from MN to oregon. Go Beavers! (Padres' AAA team, across the street from my apartment).

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:41 PM

Twink - don't forget, they used to be the Twins' AAA team.

Posted by: heraldguy at April 30, 2005 08:42 PM

I think the Twins are on a mission to have the lowest number of walks given in a season. None again tonight, only 32 for the year, and about half the total of the next lowest team thus far.

Posted by: Evan at April 30, 2005 08:44 PM

Well, it's been real, kids. See you next time!! :-)

Posted by: Laurie at April 30, 2005 08:46 PM

Heraldguy--Yep, but now I just get to content myself with Buck Buchanan and Todd Sears.

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 08:48 PM

Oh, honey!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 08:51 PM

Sorry, non-chick here; do you realize that in 531/3 innings, Radke/Nathan have walked 3 opposing hitters? Then there is Silva/Santana, who have done almost as well. Are Gordon and Gladden contractually obligated not to mention the attendance even when it is good? They could draw 100,000 for this series. Glee is rampant, well, not rampant, but nearly so.Al

Posted by: al at April 30, 2005 08:59 PM

Is this MY al or an imposter?

Posted by: Batgirl at April 30, 2005 09:03 PM

It was I, B.G. Otherwise, why the caveat re/ rampant? Al

Posted by: al at April 30, 2005 09:31 PM

I made it to tonight's game... for free! turned in my ticket from the rudely interrupted vs. Cleveland game from last September... parked in the lot at my mom's place of work... and was treated to a magnificent Twins win, complete with a 2-for-3 (with a triple!) night for Little Nicky Punto, a single with a tumble and a stolen base for Lewella, and a save for Yo Joe!

two great Twins wins in a row, and I have Santana to look forward to tomorrow. this is my happy place.

oops. TUmbleweed wasn't at the game, I was!

heh

Posted by: kafumbly at April 30, 2005 10:36 PM

I am a baseball girl...but I don't live in Minnesota OR NY...I live in the town that only gets the Twins for a few months...while they are doing their Spring Training...but have to say I love it when they are here...it is such an incredibly casual atmosphere...I get to talk to them...see them laugh and have fun...truly my favorite time of year!!
