I was voting Lew just for that beautiful slide he made PAST first base, or Torii Hunter for zooming around the base paths. . .

But I guess I can suck it up and grin for the boy with the curly hair that stole my heart the moment he took off his hat. . . and hit a long home run too.

Posted by: Webster at April 30, 2005 09:09 PM

He was beautiful tonight, just beautiful.

Posted by: ysolla at April 30, 2005 09:16 PM

Congrats, Curls, on two in a row!

Posted by: twink at April 30, 2005 09:16 PM

What about that triple? You'd think he was Ricky Henderon the way he ran those bases.

Who needs a pinch runner? Especially one who gets picked off second? The Doctor sure don't.

So my boyfriending tendencies are based on special experiences with the boys when I needed them most, at Twins away games. My love of Boo is based on his first-ever ML start, July 4 2002 at Seattle. He lost to Freddy Garcia, but pitched very well. Seattle fans all around us sang his praises in the jovial (if somewhat paternalistic) way that civil fans can when their team wins without undue acrimony. Boo went 6.1 innings, giving up only one run on 5 hits and 2 BB while striking out 4, and my heart has never been quite the same. It was a good day.

My second crush came a year later, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, when a 22 year old rookie hit the longest home run in Miller Park history. The ball, hit just right of center, was still rising as it smashed into the massive CF scoreboard. A hush fell over the obnoxious Brewers fans just behind me, and they agreed that this new kid, whoever he was, would become a good player.

I've been watching the good Doctor ever since. Though Boo is my BF, I am thrilled - THRILLED - that Justin has been absolutely knocking the cover off the ball lately. Keep up the good work, Dr.

And Go Twins!

Stretch come. Greenwood get played. Dome not safe anymore. Infield go "Dammit!"

Posted by: infield at April 30, 2005 09:47 PM

Doctor comes back from head injury, and good things proceed to happen. Coincidence? I think not. It's sure fun to watch him hit. He was absolutely ripping the ball tonight.

Isn't it fun? Team BG has chosen their boyfriends well. Mauer, Morneau and Ford are the keys to this team now. Just think that two years ago, it was a whole different crew leading the way, with the exception of the Soul Patrol, of course. The Twins are like a many-headed ass-kicking Hydra that keeps regenerating itself, and it cannot be stopped, no matter what Dimitri Young, Captain Cheeseburger and the Bitch Sox trolls like to tell themselves.

I enjoy Minnesota Twins baseball.

Posted by: Andre at April 30, 2005 09:48 PM

Yeah, seriously. You could even hear Greenwood's "song" ending on TV when the game came back. I thought we had moved on from that.

Congrats Doctor/Goober! Well deserved. That homer was gone from the second he hit it. It was just a matter of how many rows up in the upper deck it would go.

Posted by: Stacy at April 30, 2005 09:51 PM

If the Good doctor keeps hitting upper deckers like that....I may just fall in love. Since DJ Cuddles apparently has Arby's on his mind again

Posted by: Bojanglescrain at April 30, 2005 10:24 PM

And you know...I'm a minor league fan...and what we have coming up the pipeline...is just as fun to watch as the big boys themselves...so I think we are going to have some fun watching these guys for many years to come!!

Posted by: C at April 30, 2005 10:27 PM

Andre, that was beautiful!

congratulations, Doctor! a well-deserved BOD!

Posted by: kafumbly at April 30, 2005 10:42 PM

Yes, my heart just fell when that song started and Bella and I had to sit down abruptly midway through the 7th inning stretch. I truly thought it was gone for good.

Oh, but otherwise -- what can I say? When you go to the park to see a ballgame, this is pretty much exactly what you are hoping to see.

And the crowd was great! They actually appeared to pay attention all the way through, and everybody stood up and positively roared throughout the VP's last batter.

I'm proud to be a -- Minnesota Twins fan!

BG, Please post the Monkey before tomorrow's game! If this keeps up we may have to have a similar mascot to bash for each team!

Posted by: Dr. Jane at May 1, 2005 12:34 AM

Generallisimo Cheeseburger, mentor of the Captain, will be pitching against the Twins tomorrow. His name, incidentally, is properly prounounced with the emphasis on the FIRST syllable.

So, i was at a party tonight, and wearing my TC hat of course. Some guy recognizes it and starts bitching me out for it. Yep, you guessed it, Bitch Sox fan. Somehow he had heard of the ass-bats without knowing of this site, so I think your influence is spreading. He was really pissed off because we keep winning, The RIGHT WAY! It was really funny to hear him constantly bitch and moan about how we just keep winning and how we actually are better than the BS. I also calmly reminded him that when their pitching comes back down to earth theyre screwed and i think that may have set him over the edge. He really started cursing me out.

Just thought I might share this with you all. It was quite amusing to me while it happened. Even when things are going right, the Bitch Sox fans think theyre the s*it but deep down, they know it wont end well.

Didn't get to see the game, some friends and I hit up a movie.

Got back, saw we won...was happy.

Saw the Morneau homerun too. All I can say is...OUCH! Couldn't make out the ball too well, but it looked like ones of those that doesn't arc, but just goes straight out.

I bet people sitting up in that second level behind the outfield wall don't expect many balls to get up there do they?

Posted by: Torhu at May 1, 2005 01:21 AM

This is the year. I can feel it all the way in Brooklyn. Led by Torii Hunter. His 5th Golden Glove is on the way.

Posted by: Onionface at May 1, 2005 02:33 AM

Radke could have been BOD simply because he didn't give up any runs in the first inning. But Doctor Morneau was a good pick too.

Regarding the Lee Greenwood song, we were at the game on Friday and it was not played. Thank God! After the seventh inning, one of my friends said that he thought the song was gone for good. We all got big smiles on our faces and breathed a collective sigh of relief. I guess my friend is a jinx. Looks like I may have to go back to racing to the restroom as soon as the top half of the seventh is over.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 1, 2005 08:28 AM

You would think, with as unpopular as the Greenwood thing seems to be, that the Twins brass would "get it" and cease and desist with this fake display of "patriotism".

(getting off my pinko commie soapbox now!)

Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 1, 2005 08:34 AM

I know this is way off topic, but Bud Selig is proposing to put more teeth into the steroid policy. In addition, he wants to ban amphetamines...no more greenies in MLB!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 1, 2005 09:38 AM

Just sharing a little of what the creepy genius had to say about that homerun of the good Dr. Morneau, BOD.

"I would say that would be lift and separate, turning the fan on it, wrapping it around the foul pole, getting yourself a piece of cheese," Gardenhire said. "Everything Frank Howard would say, he did on that pitch. That's getting the No. 1 and putting the whistle on it."

"We have to get [Radke] some runs when he's pitching," Morneau said. "He's been pitching really well. To see him do that feels good for us, knowing he's feeling good."

We need to elevate the stadium discussion .

This is a critical time. When the stadium(s)issue was being debated in Pittsburgh, an opinion pole noted that over 80% were against any taxation. The tax was passed without referundum. After the stadium(s) were built a post constructio opinion pole indicated that over 80% thought the project was worthwhile.

We need to get on Swiggum and Dean Johnson and let them know that to move forward aggressively with the proposed plan is critical!

When the good Doctor hit that homer, I felt it, he hit the seams off that thing. Here's to many, many more Pookie!
