I-Rod and J. Ro Get It On: A Reenactment

Twins at Detroit. Detroit 6, Twins 4.

Despite some late inning heroics by Justin Morneau, the Twins let the game roll by them when Juan Rincon, still apparently suffering PTSD from Mike Sweeney's steal attempt on Thursday, started throwing the ball all over the field. None of that was as bizarre, though, as the non-fight between J.C. Romero and his countryman Ivan "Slim" Rodriguez.

Since the game was not televised, perhaps you were not able to see the altercation, but Batgirl, thanks to her extensive contacts in the military and aerospace industry, was able to view the satellite feed and now presents for you—a reenactment.

It's the bottom of the eighth inning, with the Tigers ahead by one run. J.C. Romero allows a lead-off single to "Nook", then Brandon "And the Angry"* Inge bunts him to second. With "Nook" on second, Ivan "Slim" Rodriguez comes to the plate.

Ooo...Legovision!

Anyway, I think in this sequence the bullpen ably demonstrates why I call the Tiggers' stadium Comerica National Park.

Also, I could almost hear the cheesy kung-fu sound effects when we saw "Pudge" and J.C. straing each other down.

It makes me feel better after a painful loss...

Posted by: mk at April 25, 2005 08:36 PM

Yeah! The return of Legovision! I watched the news coverage on KARE 11 and it was funny watching Rivas and LNP try to get between J Ro and Slim.

Posted by: Saajak at April 25, 2005 08:37 PM

Look at that smirk on the face of Rodriguez as he's going to first. How Romero could restrain himself I don't know. I'd be handing out one-way tickets to Painsville.

Posted by: Skorch at April 25, 2005 08:43 PM

All the while, my biggest fear is that in the scuffle, big ol' Duh-mitri Young would eat LNP!! Doesn't he look like one of the singers from the group "Full Force" (check out http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/Full%20Force.html, I ain't lyin'!)

Posted by: BW at April 25, 2005 08:58 PM

BW,

Forget Duh-mitri. I was more concerned about the whereabouts of Nate Robertson. They say that once you get a taste for something, you will always crave more...

Bat-Girl & Twin Kin:

Although I'm a Tigers fan living in Philadelphia, I've enjoyed reading this site daily.

Alright, so maybe I check it more than once a day.

Alright, so maybe I hit refresh every 30-seconds with hopes of more legovision.

In any event, I love the site. And unlike Dmitri Young, I respect what the Twins have done in an era of payroll disparity.

As a gesture of my respect, we'll trade you Bobby Higginson for Brad Radke straight up...

Did I mention that I adore Legovision?

I was afraid that Morneau was going to get hurt getting in the middle of that "brawl".

Legovision... sweet legovision.... Somehow, the whole game doesn't hurt anymore.... as much....

Damn it, the Bitch Sox don't seem to want lose!! Losing games like this could really come back to haunt us. We need to go to KC and really smoke them and hope the A's can win a few.

Posted by: Shaun at April 26, 2005 12:51 AM

Legovision...BG, you give me something new to love about this site every day.

The bullpen rushing in was the best.

Give the Bitch Sox a month or two...remember when the Royals were on fire out of the gate? What a joke that turned out to be. Live it up, Bitch Sox fans. Owning April is not something I'd be too excited about.

As fun as it is to read the same (asinine) post over and over, I think it's time for Sox Fan to take his/her sassmouth elsewhere, seeing as he/she clearly has nothing to add to the conversation.

Anyways, I think Slim needed a spear because he knew JC would totally wax him mano-a-mano.

Bat Girl -
I missed the game today - but the lego-vision replay tops anything FSN could have broadcast.

I was also spared the bottom of the first. I think Bradke needs to worry less about his 25 hot chick votes and more about not throwing gopher balls. In 1986, Circle-Me-Bert set the ML single season record serving up 50 taters. Bradke is well on his way.

This post is so funny that I can't even laugh; I just sit and ache because it's so funny. This is border-line genius.

Posted by: T James at April 26, 2005 07:29 AM

Quote from Pioneer Press:
"Romero said he didn't know what Rodriguez was yelling about. "No idea. Go ask him," said Romero, who wouldn't answer any more questions about it. "J.C.'s got to go catch a plane.""

Please tell me that J.RO is not going to go around talking in third person. Ugh, that drives me nuts!

Great re-enactment!

Losses hurt. Legovision reenactments help.

Thanks, Batgirl.

Posted by: hrunting at April 26, 2005 08:09 AM

I didn't know anything about the altercation until I came here (ah, the sorrow of not being able to catch the games--GameDay never says "A fight on the field!").

I did appreciate JustIncredible holding back Skinny. He's a large guy. It's nice to know we've got a kid out there who can get between players (if he doesn't get sick or injured first).

Hey, wait!

Did Nook actually touch third base? Or did he just use his sword? What is this, "Rounders?"* Someone should appeal that! Maybe "Slim" was just causing a distraction so noone would notice?!

Bat Girl,

As a Sox fan who was turned onto this site last week, I have enjoyed it quite a bit.

Anyway, I absolutely LOVE the thin picture of Lego Slim's eyes 'You heard me.'

That made me start laughing at my desk at work. Well, at least everyone now knows I'm not working on anything.

Good luck with your season, the 'Bitch Sox' and Twinkies will meet again in August, and I am looking forward to it...

Posted by: Southside Fan at April 26, 2005 09:48 AM

Forgot to put this in my last post:

I also love how Torii is Spiderman. If I had a dollar every time that guy frustrated me with some great acrobatic play...

Just as a suggestion, if ever the urge strikes you, BG -- a t-shirt that has the image of Slim's beady eyes with the word LEGOVISION underneath would rock on so many levels.

Yes Say Rah,

>>>>Tu madre es una Bitch Sox entusiasta!

That's a horrible, horrible thing to say to someone. It makes me want to cover my ears in horror. No wonder J.C. was so mad! Thanks for enlightening us, Batgirl, I was really wondering what it was all about.

Maybe I'm a Neanderthal, but I would have liked to see JC and Slim go at it. JC's not exactly a little guy. Granted, he's a pitcher but still, he's got some muscle behind him.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 26, 2005 11:15 AM

Its as if i watched the game again. I slept through sports center, but i wanted to see it all again, to try to make some sense of it all. God Bless Legovision. Now it all makes sense, after seeing what that bastard punk bitch Slim said to J.C.! I'm suprised ANYONE could hold him back.

Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 11:32 AM

A few more random thoughts in a day full of random thoughts --

If each of the Batlings fronts some money, could we buy BG naming rights to the new stadium?

Failing that, could we pitch the idea to the Lego board to get them to pay to name it "Legovision Park", with specialty merchandise stores inside with little Twins Lego figurines and posters of classic Legovision moments, like when Terry Tiffee saw birdies after hitting Pudge?

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 26, 2005 12:05 PM

Dear Ms. IC,

Truly, you are a visionary.

Respectfully,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 12:20 PM

CarrieIC, You're a damn genius! Legovision Park ... with in-game Lego re-enactments between innings on the Jumbotron! Put BG on the Twins salary to do that Lego thing that only she can do ...

And it kills two birds with one stone: That would be a highly effective way to get people to an outdoor park during the April cold and the August heat!

Posted by: T.C. Rafters at April 26, 2005 12:22 PM

Legovision.
'nuff said.

There is a super-swell story about Terrance John in the PiPress today. Read it. It is good. The print version has pictures. Anyone else want to try the Mullholland mystical eastern diet?

And I believe that "Nook" is a nickname, thus the quotes.

Posted by: double-a at April 26, 2005 12:38 PM

Carrie, girl, I love you. *sniff*
I'm going to dream about Legovision Park tonight.
And instead of Vintage Uniform days, the Twins could have Spaceman Outfit days....

Posted by: Katharriet at April 26, 2005 12:48 PM

More random thoughts...

What if the fight between J Ro and Slim actually had its root in an earlier altercation? Say, like, during a snowball fight between teams on one of the snowed-out days? Maybe the Doctor's challenge was answered....

Posted by: Saajak at April 26, 2005 01:00 PM

The article on Terrance John was so moving! I can't believe he gave Terry Ryan a dollar. That shows so much gratitude and he is such a class act. I hope he can stay with us for the rest of his career.

Posted by: HooliganKat at April 26, 2005 01:06 PM

A "LegoVision Park" definately has to be constructed out of Legos. It might be kinda pricey, but damned fun to build.

Posted by: Me at April 26, 2005 01:18 PM

how much do i have to pay for "live" LegoVision dramatizations to go along with the CCO radio coverage?

i'll pay top dollar.

Posted by: Johnny Knuckles at April 26, 2005 01:29 PM

Well, Legos do have many advantages: light yet strong, easily cleanable, modular, requiring little or no mortar, adhesive, rivets, or other accoutrements to put together; renovation would be a snap, small children would volunteer to be on the construction team (as would some adults)... it's so crazy it just might work!
Does anybody know the load-bearing capacity of legos?

Posted by: Katharriet at April 26, 2005 01:35 PM

That's one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time, but I have one question. Why was "Slim" still on first base after the ball skipped by your third baseman. Seems strange to me.

Posted by: theMike at April 26, 2005 01:35 PM

Torii's Travel Tips from the Strib:

The Twins stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn, Mich., about a 20-minute drive from Detroit. Torii Hunter said: 'It was pretty boring. ... Dearborn is the worst place to stay, ever.'"

Posted by: el diablo at April 26, 2005 01:55 PM

I suppose the load bearing capacity of the Legos would largely be determined by the number of supports...

However, there would have to be some special squishy coverings for the Legowall in the outfield, or Torii will be walking around all season with gridmarks all over his face.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 26, 2005 01:56 PM

I love the twins and J.C. Romero as much as the next guy. But I think J.C. would have been whooped by Slim if an actual fight would have occurred.

Pitchers, especially left-handed pitchers, are in a special class of sissy-fighters that includes hockey goalies, soccer players, and the French.

If I were J.C., I would have also been worried about I-Rod tapping into some of that lingering roid-rage.

Sorry if I offended. It is just one person's opinion.

BG,

That was HUGE. LegoVision totally rules.

Hey, good thing little Nicky Punto didn't get involved in any of the extracurricular activities. We already had two shortstops down with PS2 fingernail ripitis and creaky neck syndrome.

Posted by: Brundlefly at April 26, 2005 02:09 PM

Yeah, it's pretty rough to hang out at the Ritz-Carlton, they have great rooms!! I have had the luxury of staying in one for a previous job. Nice digs!

They should have went to the Henry Ford Museum while in Dearborn. That would have solved everyone's boredom problems, but they'd have to remind Lew he's not a relative.

I heard Joe Nathan on 93X this morning (I only listen to it when The Nathanest is on) and he said that most wives/girlfriends/SO's do not go to Detroit because it's boring and he's glad that his didn't go because it would have been an expensive shopping weekend.

Posted by: HooliganKat at April 26, 2005 02:10 PM

Lego stress testing completed in my formative years revealed that they can withstand:

- Marble cannonball attack
- Head-on simulated Tonka truck impact
- Direct canine attack
- Rubber Band wars
- GI Joe assault

The biggest danger would arise from the attack of a 150 foot toddler.

(Not to mention lost revenue to nearby Duplo and Lincoln Log venues nearby)

"At first, it was like he was saying 'Hey' or something," Morneau said. "Then I could tell he was talking trash."

I'm not sure why, but this quote gave me a good chuckle. I think I have a strange sense of humor.

Posted by: ndtf at April 26, 2005 03:46 PM

Minneapolis Crisis Nursery used to host a fundraiser event at the dome that was all about legos, and involved an auction of celebrity lego creations and the turf covered in piles of legos for kids (and adults) to build with. I think one year they broke a world record or something by building a road of legos from the backstop to the outfield wall. Dunno if they still do that every year, tho.

Posted by: twink at April 26, 2005 04:14 PM

A stadium constructed of Legos would be mindbendingly awesome, and likely win numerous architecture awards.

Of course, it might also have the most ass-numbing seats of all time, but you have to take the bad with the good.

Since we're all chipping in anyways, hello, Tigers and Red Sox fan (don't ask) here. Quality Legovision. I was tearing my hair out about being denied the visual splendor of a riled-up Pudge, but the steely lego stare mostly makes up for it.

And for the record I agree with whoever said Pudge probably would have flattened JC. But if Nook had been in the thick of things, I don't think it would be too crazy to assume that there would have been shrill, girlish screams emanating from his corner.
