I can't wait to watch Johan sit some bitches down!
I predict 27 K perfect game.
Posted by: Stacy at April 26, 2005 06:34 PMWow Stacy! That is quite optimistic! I will settle for circa 2004 Santana - perhaps a three hit, complete game, shutout!
Posted by: Chris at April 26, 2005 06:39 PMI'll be happy with any kind of win at this point. Though a complete game shutout does sound nice.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 06:48 PMI'm with Pepper on this one. A great game by Santana would be gravy; get the win first.
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 06:53 PMI'm just happy we get to see Johan on TV tonight.
Although a win would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
k-bro
Black Jack just said "Johan San-tuna." That got a guffaw out of me. That's right up there with some of Bob Casey's best mispronounciations.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 06:55 PMI heard that too. I did a double take and then chuckled
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 06:57 PMOK.. that whole pregame montage thing with Santana was totally cool.
And I credit Legovision and Santana for me being excited to watch baseball again tonight... YEAH!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:02 PMI am no so worried about Supernatural. What I am most interested in seeing is an offensive explosion, with Michael "Ka-boom" Cuddyer sparking the whole thing. No more "Ka-putt" Cuddyer, okay?
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:05 PMI can hear my owners mimicry of Gordo's disgust when he says, "popped up." Now go get yourself a beverage and save me a seat on the plane.
Posted by: Dazzle-Man's bird dog aka "Dazzle-Dog" at April 26, 2005 07:09 PMThat was a beauty bunt by LNP. What kind of order did Gardy throw together for tonights game?! man, dude sure likes so mix it up...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:14 PMStewart had to be lifted because of a sore foot he got in BP today. He fouled a ball off on his foot, so lew lew is taking his place
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 07:15 PMIt's not "mixed up", per se. LNP takes Bartle's spot on the field, he takes his spot in the lineup. What you take from that is up to you. As long as it works though...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:16 PMwoot! 1st inning run
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 07:17 PM*gasp*
we have the lead in the first inning!?!?!?!?
YEAHHHH for LNP!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:17 PMWow, we scored first!!
Posted by: Shaun at April 26, 2005 07:17 PMattaboy Doc! way to give us offense in the first inning!
Oh man, another lead... do they remember what to do at this point?
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:17 PM*sob* Gameday's behind, so I'll have to figure out what you guys are talking about in about, oh, five minutes...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:18 PMOh well, whatever happened, it seems to be working. I'll take it!
lets get a little hit parage going!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:18 PMI'm so annoyed that I have to put in my personal info each time I write, even though I click on "Remember personal info." Is there anything that can be done?!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:19 PMSacky: click the time stamp on the main page, not the other clicky link
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 07:20 PMLet's go LeRoy!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:20 PMIs there a reason Barlett isn't playing lately? i always leave him in on my fantasy league waiting for his big break out game... but he's not getting much done not playing...
Holy cow, Jones walked again!? even though its happenning every game, its still not natural...
Come on Mr. Donut! Let one rip here!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:20 PMSacky,
Don't use the pop-up comments, but dive into the thread's page itself (click on the time posted to get there). It remembers there...
MK
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:20 PMJames and mk,
Ahhh...
Thanks, that is so much better!

Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:21 PMTinger,
Bartle ripped off a fingernail trying to move the TV set in his hotel room in Detroit this weekend.

Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:22 PMNice first inning, boys. I'm willing to overlook the bases-loaded K, because that sure didn't look like a strike.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 07:22 PMok.. there is the ol' leaving our boys on base thing.. here I couldn't quite get over the lead in the first inning so I wasn't sure that was my team out there. So glad they refreshed me memory..
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:22 PMDoh!! Leave the bases juiced again!
Posted by: Shaun at April 26, 2005 07:23 PMAgain, is it weird that we just left the bases loaded, which i'm getting used to, but still i get upset... but since this is the royals, I'm just not upset at all? Maybe its because El Presidente is pitching, or more likely its a combination of that and playing the royals. Its like no matter how hard i try, i can't take them seriously...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:23 PMGetting a wee bit tired of the whole leaving the bases loaded routine...
Posted by: infield at April 26, 2005 07:23 PMThat was dumb of him! next time, maybe he'll call room service to move the damned TV. Jeez... Rookies...he'll learn!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:25 PMDear Johan K. Santana,
Please take note: the left side of the plate apparently has a tumor stretching toward the 1st-base side seats, which only the home plate ump can see. Use it.
Love,
Sacky
I am MORE than a wee bit tired of the BLEEPIN' BLARGIN' LEAVIN' THE BASES LOADED AGAIN!!! routine.
Posted by: Adam at April 26, 2005 07:25 PMI think it's hard to blame Matty for that one, as the pitch looked well outside to me. Maybe the ump's going to give both teams that, but it's tough to know in the first inning.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 07:26 PMwho works the count full against Johan?! that'll teach him. Nice glove, Dr. Morneau!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:27 PMI think the Center Field Camera man is drunk...
Posted by: Ben at April 26, 2005 07:27 PMI cannot watch the game on TV, so in my eyes there is NO excuse.
They love the pop-up!
If everyone does that on their team the whole game, people are gonna think Johan had an off night. Thats funny, because when he does have an off night, he still racks up 10 J's!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:30 PMGameday has Stewart in LF, but Lew as the LF in the lineup, and Stewart's Fielding line is
0 PO, 0 A, 0 E.
Wierd.
This is my first time posting ever...wow..gotta love it...I hate mlb.com cause I miss the home broadcast and I have to listen to these other announcers talk about how their team is gonna take the division
Posted by: TwinsFanStuckinCincy at April 26, 2005 07:31 PMthe Tiggers are postponed again. Maybe thats the baseball Gods' way of telling them they suck and shouldn't be playing.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:31 PMMorneau looks like he's taken a few lessons from one Mr. Kent Hrbek (Dougie D woulda looked slicker, but Hrbie would've gotten there easily nonetheless). By the way, why don't we hear more from Hrbie? I mean, all I ever hear about him is the fishing and stuff. He should be milking his hero status while he still looks like he did as a player!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:32 PMCool. 3 pop-ups. we'll take it!!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:32 PMJohan's the Anti-Silva tonight.
Silva creates all infield grounders, Johan creates all infield pops. Is there a new pitch that lifts a little as it crosses the plate?
Ben:
it must be breezy in KC tonight. I notice that the centerfield cam has a tendancy to sawy back and forth on windy days
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 07:33 PMok... can I just tell you how much I am in love with that man?!?!!? I fear I am becoming a Batling slut though cause... well... Joe Nathan is my bf but..
wow... Santana.. he is just so hot out there doing what he does.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:33 PMJohan's changeup isn't working too well for him yet tonight. Love the 1-2-3 inning despite not having his best pitch. That's the mark of an elite pitcher, right there!
Posted by: infield at April 26, 2005 07:33 PMWell, he hit the ball in play, thats a big step up... maybe next time Cuddyer!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:34 PMQuestion: Does Rivas really have that good a glove that we need to keep him in the lineup? Cause I really am less tham impressed with his batting ability
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:35 PMCuddy could do it leading off either. Let's switch him and Luis and see what happens.
Posted by: insider at April 26, 2005 07:35 PMLewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:36 PMJonathon: Yes he does.
Posted by: insider at April 26, 2005 07:36 PMBabs, its acceptable. Nothing wrong with being a batling slut... its kinda like me being an Art student, and my teacher says i'm an Art Whore. Its like a term of endearment :)
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:36 PMHe has a great glove, except for that bobble last night that cost us the double play that ended up costing us the game. But USUALLY he's pretty damned solid!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:38 PMDouble play here we come!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:39 PMSantana has a runner on base now...guess that means he's having a bad day
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:39 PManother pop-up. this is entertaining!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:39 PMoh thanks Tinger... a girl can worry about her reputation in situations like this - and it's just too hard to hide the drool.
And then you have the situations where Torii climbs a centerfield wall and my knees go weak...
Or when Lew looks at the pitcher from the plate with that adorkable little smirk on his face..
Oh Nathanest of Joe's, please forgive my fickle heart!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:39 PMJust as a side note as we wait to see another fly ball... I hate Dimitry Young with a passion
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:41 PMJonathan, i dont know that thats ever really a "side-note" anymore... more of a reappearing theme... i hate him too.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:42 PMDouble play not needed.
Posted by: Adam at April 26, 2005 07:42 PMThis is my first time posting so I was unaware it was a frequent thing said here...I dunno how I ever lived with this site though, this is amazing!
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:43 PMJ J
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:43 PMThe strike zone is seriously huge today. Wow.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:43 PMThe flood gates have now open...bring on the strikeouts!!!!
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:44 PMJonathan, no problem. Welcome aboard. Good call on the floodgates.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:45 PMI bet they are wishing they were hittin fly outs again...cause I think he's gettin into the zone
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:45 PMOh good. Now we're hitting pop-ups. Thats not as amusing.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:46 PMJonathon... I assume you meant "withOUT this site." Be careful not to incur the wrath of our powerful hostess! Okay, so she's actually very benevolent to her batlings, but whatever.
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:46 PMSince I can't get Gameday Audio at this computer, is it wrong to have the soundtrack to "Jaws" in the background?
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:46 PMIs there an easy way to refresh the comments instead of having to click on it from the main page every time or post??? shit, that was a nice catch
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:47 PMHe didn't need to slide for that... now he's going to get on the top plays... sheesh... we're all over the fly-outs now. that can't be good.
On a positive note, we didn't leave the bases loaded, and we didn't GIDP! (and Supernatural is in his groove)
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:48 PMJonathon: Hit F5.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 07:48 PMOh dear god, I didn't realize my typo. I shall never say such a thing ever again to hurt a Twins fan...I will have to make it up to the Twins organization somehow
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:49 PMMK- thats very fitting, as long as Johan's on the mound. However, when Little Nicky Punto steps up to the plate, it worries me a little bit...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:49 PMIs that guy's last name really pronounced "DYE-az" or are the KC tv guys idiots? Or both? Actually, they're not too bad.
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:50 PMDid you know all the letters of Johan are in my name? I like to think that makes me cool.
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:50 PMlol Tinger
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:51 PMwell... perhaps the fact that you THOUGHT of that actually does give you some cool points there Jonathon...
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:51 PMI havent been able to come here after seeing Lewella "I look like Julia Stiles" Ford and the others. Nice to come back to Legovision and the Twins leading
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 07:52 PMI can't help it that I think about baseball and the Twins all the time..it just comes natural to me
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:52 PMSantana as Chief Brody: "Sit down, you son of a--" *bang* *BOOM*
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:52 PMAnother Cudderror. Sigh.
Posted by: infield at April 26, 2005 07:53 PMgrrr Cuddyer..ror
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:53 PMGOLL DAMMIT CUDDYER!!!!
cripes!
keep that up and your ass is gonna get fired. Moral High Ground!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:53 PMI like Castro's glove a bit better...but then you have to deal with Castro's bat....
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:53 PM(That would be blowing up the batter in the strike zone, not blowing up Cuddyer after a throwing error. Not that it wouldn't be appropriate right now--)
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:54 PMMaybe Cuddy just wanted to give Santana an extra opportunity to get another J.
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:54 PMsacky: Gordo on the radio just explained that is pronounced Dye-az, but spelled Diaz
What is up with Cuddyer??????
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 07:54 PMoh, nevermind, Cuddles. Meghan allready fired you. goodbye.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:55 PMAnd of course, Dick and Bert started this game talking about how Gardy had pulled Cuddy aside and told him just to play baseball, he was going to stay our guy on 3rd...
But GARDY!?!?!?!?!??! We have Tiffee!!! I'm not saying a PERMANENT change but come on... sometimes these guys need a change of environment...
*sniff* sorry, I never like to question the creepy wisdom of Gardy but, still, it's hard.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:55 PMI wouldn't trust Gordo's pronounciations. He didn't sound too sure of himself on that one.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 07:55 PMGood God, A Rod has 3 dingers and 9 rbi's - tonight!
Posted by: insider at April 26, 2005 07:55 PMJ J J J
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 07:56 PMAt least the bitches get to sit down... take a load off...
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 07:56 PMThe Ask the Booth question on MLB.TV was asking if the royals could build a good team using the same system as the Twins.
I dont know if they could. Just because they're the royals.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:57 PMDear Roayls announcers:
Don't pretend you ever have a chance of building a good team. You'll just always suck. Thanks.
Yours Truely,
Jonathon (spelt kinda like Johan but with more letters and jumbled up a bit)
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 07:58 PMI WANT THE HIGH MORAL GROUND!!!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMHoly crap... thats alot of dingers. Although making money like that, i figure he should hit one every time he's up. So even though he has 3, he's still underacheiving.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMNotice how John Gordon calls pitches up, "hi", like he's really a Johanna Gordon, drag queen?
Posted by: insider at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMwhat the hell was that?!?!?!??!!?!?
Posted by: Meghan at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMOh dear lord in heaven...
BG, do me a favor?? please do NOT put that one in legovision?!?! I'm going to try as hard as I can to forget I ever saw that play.
Good grief.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMwhat the hell is going on?
where did the Twins go? who are these bastards in the outfield?!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 07:59 PMMorneau just wanted to know what it feels like to heet a man in the head (sort of like that taxi driver in Pulp Fiction).
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 08:00 PMLet's play a round of "On Pace"!
Cuddyer has played in 18 of 19 games, on pace to play 153.
He's made 5 errors, on pace for 43.
(Editor's note: On Pace, like everything else, means very little so early in the season. But it's amusing!)
Posted by: infield at April 26, 2005 08:00 PMoh man... just imagine what Sooz is going to do to those boys!! Good thing she's not in the dugout.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:01 PMJohan is probably thinking "well apparently my defense doesn't plan on taking care of any outs tonight, so I'll just have to strike out all these bitches"
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:01 PMWhat just happened? OK, who brought the ass-gloves?
Posted by: Goldie at April 26, 2005 08:01 PMJ J J J J
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 08:02 PMJ-J-J-J-J
Its a damn good thing we got Johan on the mound and we're playing K.C., or else these errors would cost us!
I think Morneau's throwing the ball at the dude's head must have been due to him getting beaned earlier in the year. That explains it. You're forgiven, good Dr. (just don't let it happen again!)
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:02 PMpop-ups are bad, mmm-kay?
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:03 PMGuy next to me calls a solo shot for Jones.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:04 PMGood Hustle JJ!!!
That's right.. we remember how to play this game!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:04 PMGuy next to me is wrong, but i forgive him.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:05 PMYay Jonesy! A double is a lovely thing. He just might be my boyfriend. I can never decide between him and Torii.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:05 PMThe Royals TV guys just had a question:
Since 1969 which center fielder has had the most outfield assists?
Amos Otis
Carlos Beltran
Kirby Puckett
Torii Hunter
Then they ruled out Kirby because "he played in right field a lot toward the end of his career, didn't he?" I don't remember Kirby playing right field much. Am I just blacking out some memories of the mid 90's?
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 08:05 PMGotta love the way guys produce in a contract year...great hustle
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:05 PMCome on Mr. Donut, you can bring him in!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:05 PMHe dind't play very damn much right anyway...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:06 PMHey LeCroy! Krispy Kreme on second base!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 08:06 PMWhat was Morneau's error? MLB Game Center just showed Diaz to second on Morneau's throwing error, and Graffanino still batting. Was he returning a pickoff throw to Johan or what?
Posted by: edge at April 26, 2005 08:07 PMLeCroy reminds me of the Kool-Aid man...I expect him to come crashing through the outfield wall in a bright red outfit
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:07 PMWhoa easy sacky... i've seen him try for two before. its not pretty... in fact, last time, if i remember correctly, he hit one off the wall and tripped going around 1st.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:07 PMman.. LeRoy's hitting them foul into the dugout again. They better keep an eye and a glove in front of Santana. The way these boys are fielding right now, they can't afford to lose their strikeout pitchers to a foul bean sitting on his team bench.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:08 PMEdge, yeah, Johan threw to 1st and caught the guy off the base, so he ran to second, and Dr. plunked him in the head with the ball.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:08 PMJumpin Jesus. I really wouldn't shed a tear right now if Cuddyer went into the dugout and didn't ever come back out.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:09 PMAnybody know Terry Tiffee's phone number? Gardy needs to call him.
Posted by: Haplo at April 26, 2005 08:10 PMIs it too early to start the "We Want Tiffee" chants?
Posted by: Scotty Dawg at April 26, 2005 08:10 PMVaguely unrelated.... do we trust Silva's knee for the rest of the year?
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:11 PMI work for Verizon Wireless, I'll go in tomorrow and see if I can find his phone number, I'll call him and pretend I'm Gardy and tell him he's active at 3rd starting tomorrow
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:11 PMMan, they just announced Kirby had the most assists, and the announcers sounded sad like they just crapped themselves and everyone was watching or something... That was pretty good humor.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:12 PMI agree. I'd like to see Tiffee back here too. But I gotta think this is abnormal for Cuddyer. Isn't it?
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:12 PMReally, move Cuddy to second and bring back TT
Yes Pepper.. Cuddy really is a very good player and a very good 3rd baseman too. That's why I'm saying this has gotta be a head thing..
Just look at what that little send down did for JC last year???
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:13 PMThanks, Tinger. The Moral High Ground is what I've really loved about these Twins. These errors take a lot of the edge off of my pleasure in being a fan. Especially errors that cost games. Sure hope it's a passing phase.
Posted by: edge at April 26, 2005 08:13 PMthis is off topic Jonathon but are you aware that Verizon is a big donor to Tom Delay's defense fund?
Posted by: Chris at April 26, 2005 08:14 PMI had no idea. I try not to worry too much about working there cause I work in customer service and do nothing but get yelled at all day. So I try to just go there, do my job, and come home to watch baseball with hopes of a Twins victory every day.
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:15 PMsumbitch... who is this guy getting hits all the time?
Unfortunately MHG isn't enough to win the close ones - timely hitting (bases loaded, for example) and fielding is what it takes and Cud-die-er isn't getting it done...
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 08:15 PMI'm late. What did I miss? It looks like errors and Js are the story
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 08:15 PM??? boy Chris, when you go off topic you REALLY go...
Come back and join us at the baseball game. Afterall we are actually winning at the moment!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:15 PMHas Cuddy spent much time at 2nd? If he has, then I'm all over the Cuddy at 2nd and Tiffee at third idea. I won't miss Luis too much. Maybe a little, but not that much.
Right on! Another strikeout!

Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 08:17 PMSWEEEEET CHANGE
Posted by: Scotty Dawg at April 26, 2005 08:17 PMeh... Pepper, that is certainly the source of a lot of debate. Cuddy has a LOT of people who like him at second - I personally was not impressed. He just didn't have a fast enough turn around..
For all of the issues with Rivas' bat, his glove is fast and accurate. But moving Cuddy to a different base is NOT going to fix his bat.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:18 PMattaboy lil' sweetcheeks. Routine.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:18 PMThis Twins game has been brought to us by the letters E and J
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:19 PM63 pitches through 4 innings, I hope JKS gets through the next two innings 1-2-3.
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 08:19 PMBabs, I disagree, Rivas at times is a liabilty at second
Posted by: Scotty Dawg at April 26, 2005 08:20 PMamen capitalbabs
Posted by: sheila at April 26, 2005 08:20 PMYup, putting you at second doesn't make the bat light up either. (ex. Luis Rivas) I think a little trip to Rochester might be good for him, just to shake up the situation a little bit.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:20 PMCapitalBabs, good points. Fast turn around is important, for sure, and Luie usually has it.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:21 PMYeah, if Cuddyer is going to cede the Moral High Ground AND flirt with the Mendoza Line, it's Tiffee Time in my book!
Posted by: edge at April 26, 2005 08:21 PMsee, second base doesn't equal good hitting.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:22 PMmy sincere apologies Capitol Babs (and anyone else who took umbrage)!! I was just multi-tasking again.....nasty habit! I am loving the game! Go TWINS!
Posted by: Chris at April 26, 2005 08:22 PMOk.. it is TOTALLY cool that you can hear fans in the stands chanting LEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Not a lot of them but you can tell they are there!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:22 PMNuts, Rivas. Some people's girlfriends's boyfriends...
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 08:22 PMrequest for definition: mendoza line??
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 08:22 PMYeah, I live in ohio and went to the Twins/Tribe game not that long ago in Cleveland and you could her the LEWWWWWWWW chant. Speaking of Cleveland, I hate CC The Fat Sabathia soooo much
Posted by: Jonathon at April 26, 2005 08:23 PMAmen AT... homewrecker, i tell ya.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:23 PMMedoza = batting average less than .200
As in Cuddy's average currently. And where Rivas' is rapidly going...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 08:24 PMAs cute as it is when the twins play with the royals to make it seem like they have a chance, i wish they'd stop and just bury them allready...
come on LNP!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:24 PMDon't get me wrong kids... Rivas needs to get his ass.. I mean bat.. ok, assbat in GEAR.
He and Cuddy are in similar boats at this point of the season. And I don't want to lose EITHER guy. Just that with the cannon of an arm that Cuddy has, he is better at third and Rivas has the faster turn around which makes him a natural at second.
But good grief, boys, we would still like to see you hit that little ball!!!
And Cuddy.. E's are NOT a good thing. You got that little Arby's hat on your head!??!?
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:25 PMSo, how did we end up keeping Luivas as the only remaining infielder of the four we started with last year?
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:26 PMBW - Mendoza line is a batting average of .200, I am uncertain of the phrase's etymology.
Posted by: Chris at April 26, 2005 08:26 PMWe should get a commanding lead before i have to leave in a few minutes so i don't have to worry so much about somehow blowing the game in the late innings...
LOL WE CAN COUNT ON JAMES P. NUTTER! now THAT was funny
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:27 PMeasy Ryan, he wasn't a high salary player to start with and no one came along who played better.
Contract issues and batting averages are what changed our infield around.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:27 PMChris,
Thanks for the correction.
I's not writin gud rite now...
MK
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 08:27 PMHere's one theory on the Mendoza line: http://www.bostonbaseball.com/whitesox/baseball_extras/mendoza.html
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 08:28 PMOK.. see what I mean about that arm!?!?!? Cuddy really has a great arm but just can't quite get it out of the glove fast enough.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:28 PMSpeaking of El Presidente...
i was walking down the hallway today on the way back from dinner, and this girl walked by with a "pedro for president" shirt. i laughed.
AWWWWW... Cuddy, way to try to redeem yourself. i'll give you credit on that one... nice play. Now turn that good fielding into good at bats and we'll talk.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:29 PMOK, for those of you who didn't see yesterdays game, that view they just showed on MLB.TV from up behind home plate, that was the view of the entire game yesterday! MAN that got old.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:31 PMBartlett might be my boyfriend, but that was nice by LNP
Posted by: jill at April 26, 2005 08:32 PMnow THAT was a nice play!!! WOW!!!!!
ATTABOY LNP!!!
Now THAT deserves an ESPN top play!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:32 PMWell aint that some shit...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:33 PMno kidding... man, now THAT was a speedy turn around. What do folk think of training up our little Nicky there as the replacement for second like we are with Tiffee for third??
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:33 PMUgh... infield hit, fielder's choice, bloop single, and it's tied. Time to put the ass-bats away.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 08:33 PMBabs- ummmmmmm TRUE!?
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:33 PMI don't know... I'm not on the "get rid of Cuddy" bandwagon yet. It's still only April and this is his first time playing every day. We've seen Rivas play every day. It's not so much that hes got a bad batting average or he's not a gold glover, its more that he is the veteran in the infield and I never hear anything about Rivas' leadership or clubhouse character.... come to think of it, I dont think I've ever even see n the guy interviewed.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:34 PMwhat happened to the idea of J-ing everyone? where'd that go? i think he's due.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:34 PMNow after that breath holder, I declare grounding in to a DP
Posted by: jill at April 26, 2005 08:34 PM*breathes a big sigh of relief*
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:35 PMdamn... well, i guess we'll take that out as long as Johan J's the next guy.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:36 PMSo who do you like at short, Babs?
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:36 PMTinger, good spot on the J.
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 08:38 PMj-j-j-j-j-j-j
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:39 PMGuy nex to me calls a 3 run inning.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:40 PM*NEXT* sorry...
that wasn't a real good start...
COME ON DR. MORNEAU!!!!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:41 PMOK, guys, time to stop watching Legovision and start hitting!!!!!
Posted by: heraldguy at April 26, 2005 08:41 PMI do not want to get rid of Cuddy but I think he is causing his own troubles right now - his head is not in the right place. It's hard to come out of that. A bit of a break without the pressure at the plate that he has here because we simply can't afford to be without the bat might help him.
And SS is still out there to play. Bartlett is just so darn FAST and he hits well and ... I like him as the starter and he earned it. But I like having Castro there as back-up. He has game too.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:42 PMhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:42 PMI wish we would just blow somebody out already.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:43 PMWalks will haunt...
Posted by: heraldguy at April 26, 2005 08:43 PMJack just said this is the best he's ever seen Lima pitch.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:44 PMC'mon Jonesy... make it hurt!
Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 26, 2005 08:44 PMOh, good! we got a runner on. thats different!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:45 PMBabs, alls I'm saying is, maybe call up Tiffee and send Corky down to Rochester. I think Cuddy needs to platoon, but I'm not so sure he needs to make the trip back to western New York. Seems a little drastic to me.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:45 PMOh, bugger.....
Posted by: heraldguy at April 26, 2005 08:45 PMOh, bugger.....
Posted by: heraldguy at April 26, 2005 08:45 PMWell, that walk might haunt *us*....
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:46 PMThree pitches, two outs. I like that! Fly outs are nice, but strikeouts are fun too.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:48 PMGeez, nice inning for Little Nicky!
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:49 PMRyan - true and I think that would help US but I don't think it would help Cuddyer. I have no clue why we keep Corky but I'm probably biased there because I didn't get that one from the beginning.
But I think it is worse to sit Cuddy on the bench and play Tiffee then to have him playing everyday somewhere else for a couple weeks.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:49 PMI like 5 pitch innings better than struckouts...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 08:49 PMSo KC got their run on a biff, a bunt, and a bloop... ugh, and somehow LIMA of all people is dealing. Sounds like a Twins April, no breaks.
Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 26, 2005 08:49 PMPunto sure likes to go out to the middle of the outfield to make those catches! Not a bad thing though... Come on bats, turn yourselves on. Maybe do a little pinch-hitting here to get something going Gardy!
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:49 PMThat wasn't real a real good start.
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:51 PMDid I just hear Cuddy is 0-26 in his last 26 at bats?
Posted by: James at April 26, 2005 08:52 PMI heard him say Cuddyer was 4-26. Not a whole lot better.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 08:53 PMWell, Babs, I think Cuddyer seeing someone playing third base right would help him. It might put a little pressure on him to work on his fundamentals. Either way, I dont think the threat of being sent back down would weight to well on his concience.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:53 PMNot exactly the strong part of the order for a big hitting spree...
Posted by: Tinger at April 26, 2005 08:53 PMRyan.. *GRIN* aren't you glad that there is only one team manager and it ain't us?!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:54 PMI'm glad about that and the fact that I'm not getting graded on grammar and spelling. That last post was atrocious.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:55 PMkeep your head down Tinger... see ya later
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 08:57 PMUntil tomorrow Tinger
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 08:58 PMThat J must have been a special send-off for Tinger.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 09:00 PMI think the Twins are still going to definitely pull this one out. Let me tell you why. We're in the 8th inning and Jose Lima hasn't gone totally crazy yet. He's due.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:03 PMgoodness Justin.
I can't hold my breath for that many fouls...
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:07 PMWay to go, Doc!
Posted by: heraldguy at April 26, 2005 09:07 PMGood call Ryan!!
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:08 PMAnd now they're bringing in Andy Pancho---er---Sisco to face Torii.
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:09 PMMound visit! Can the KC bullpen be far behind? Gardy would be able to hit of them.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:10 PMAt last check, we lead MLB in hitting with RISP...
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:11 PM....nuts...
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:12 PMOk, bottom of eighth, lets go 1-2-3, then hit the cover off the ball.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:13 PMWe lead the league in hitting with RISP? Are you sure? We seemed to have had problems with that in the past... month.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:13 PMProbably with *at-bats* with RISP, but certainly not with anything else...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:14 PMWhenever they have a runner on first and less than two outs, they hit the ball so weakly that we can't turn two. I guess it's the downside to being as great as Santana has been.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 09:18 PMIs there a way to make a backwards J for a called SO?
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:19 PMThis would be a LOVELY time for a J!
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 09:20 PMJHK, how about making it a lower-case J?
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:20 PMWhew!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:22 PMA force out will do just as fine though...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:22 PMOk, trying to locate empirical data to prove the RISP claim, but I can't. I heard it on the radio, that's as good as I can do. However, we're 2nd in MLB in GIDP, and surprisingly toward the bottom of the league in LOB.
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:25 PMSo the Royals just lifted their reliever who was looking very good. Pena is starting to look Trammel-esque.
Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2005 09:26 PMAnd how in the HECK are we supposed to pronounce Ambiorix??
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:26 PMBW is right! At least, that's what they said on the radio yesterday!
Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 09:27 PMHow about this ſ ? Not sure if the font comes up correctly on other computers. It's supposed to be the latin letter for long "S"
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:27 PMFirst Batchild is going to be named Ambirorix.
Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 09:27 PMBW--the only possible explanation for the LOB stat must be that everyone sucks in April, or something.
Posted by: twink at April 26, 2005 09:27 PMGood move, pinch running for Mr Donut.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:28 PMCome on Gardy, Send LeRoy running to steal....
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:28 PMTwink: yes!
Way to go Matty!! Unfortunately we have Cud-die-er AB...
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:29 PMMr Cuddles, it's TIME
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:29 PMcan't we have Tiffee around just to pinch hit for Cuddly in these situations?
Posted by: double-a at April 26, 2005 09:30 PMJHK,
That'll work!
(For the HTML-impaired that's & # 383; just without the spaces. Like this: ſ !)

Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:31 PMWhew!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:31 PMA walk! A walk!
Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 09:31 PMMen on first and second with nobody out? We have them right where they want us.
Wait...
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:32 PMOMG, Cruddyer just improved his OBP!!
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:33 PMOh, honey, let's IMPLORE them! It's nicer.
Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 09:33 PMGood work mk. I vote to make that the official symbol for Johan when he catches someone looking at strike 3. ſ
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:34 PMsorry BG, I just noticed that.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:36 PMBy the way, I noticed that Ambiorix was called up so I looked up the name on google. Apparently, o'l Amby is named after a Belgian from the time of Caesar. He fought with Caesar, and then betrayed him and fought against him. Caesar chased him through Belgiam, Ambiorix (not the pitcher) fled across the Rhine. So Mr. and Mrs. Burgos were into Roman history.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:36 PMSo would that be JJJJJJJſ?

Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:37 PMI am correct when I say Santana is the pitcher of record, si??
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:37 PMLet's keep it going LNP.
Lew is my temporary BF (with Torii being my permanent one).

Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 09:40 PMSay it aint so, joe
Posted by: Hegs at April 26, 2005 09:40 PMWhat's happening? my connection is jacked, and is way behind what y'all are saying. what's going on?
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 09:41 PMoops... didnt mean to post twice. But this whole inning is making me pretty happy.
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:41 PMbah...
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:41 PMOh, and apperently the Twins pronounce Ambiorix as "Meat."
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:41 PMWow, that was very disappointing. But now it's up to Nathan, and I don't doubt he can do the job.
Posted by: Pepper at April 26, 2005 09:42 PMSLAM
Posted by: Hegs at April 26, 2005 09:43 PMAT,
Lew batted in an RBI to bring us ahead again and then we loaded the bases. Mauer didn't quite get us anything from his connection but we are back anyway.
Caught up yet?
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:43 PMAT:
Lew hit a 2-out run-scoring flare over the 2Bman. Punto walked, bases loaded. Mauer grounded out to end the inning.
Twins up, 2-1, Nathan is on his way in.
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 09:43 PMCome on, VP this is an election year!
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:43 PMas in the door ...
Posted by: Hegs at April 26, 2005 09:43 PMThanks, sacky. I saw all the LEWWWs and assumed it must be good, but I was getting a little worried about not knowing what's up. Ah, the VP.
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 09:44 PMI wonder if Ambiorix and Nook hang out when Detroit plays KC... Talk about the perils of being unfortunately named...
Posted by: Ryan at April 26, 2005 09:44 PMMLB has created a new stat called TAB (Twins Ass Bat) which is defined as "Number of outs produced by the batting team with the bases loaded with failure to drive in any of the runs. GIDP counts as 2 TABs."
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:44 PMpop out, two more to go, VP...
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 09:45 PMsay AT... I think I saw in an Archived post - you're a Gustie??? What class?
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:45 PMBabs, geez, I don't remember mentioning that since last year... 2001.
Posted by: AT at April 26, 2005 09:46 PMOn the KC TV feed, I distinctly hear grunting with the pitch. Is our VP a grunter?!
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 09:47 PMAlright VP, close the door!
Posted by: BW at April 26, 2005 09:47 PMexhale
Posted by: Hegs at April 26, 2005 09:47 PMI just heard a grunt on the last pitch to Stairs...VP must be a grunter.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 26, 2005 09:48 PMbeat 'em bust 'em that's our custom!
Posted by: aussie at April 26, 2005 09:48 PMDoes one get a higher TAB score in tied (or one-run) games? I think that would truly capture the nature of the ass-battery.
Posted by: twink at April 26, 2005 09:49 PMsomeone was grunting... but with the heft that our VP puts on those balls, I think the occasional grunt is likely excused in my book. He's still hot...
AT, '94 here. *high five*
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:49 PMSo I'm still behind - did the VP win yet?
Yeah, I've noticed fairly large numbers of Gusties here at times.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 09:51 PMAnd an N to finish things off. Nice win!
Posted by: mk at April 26, 2005 09:51 PMNow THAT is why Nathan is my boyfriend.. my eye may stray but my heart remains committed.
beautiful *tears up*
Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 26, 2005 09:51 PMYee-ha! I definitely heard a grunt on the K pitch. If it works, he can't grunt all he wants :)
Twins win
Posted by: sacky at April 26, 2005 09:51 PMDon't know what it is that the Twins have a talent for making it look difficult, but thank goodness, there's the game.
Posted by: twink at April 26, 2005 09:52 PMMaybe if Lyle grunts....
Posted by: JHK at April 26, 2005 09:53 PMYea, woohoo, yipee, oh ya, uh huh uh huh uh huh
Ms. DQ
Posted by: Ms. Drama Queen at April 26, 2005 09:53 PMObviously, they do not lead anyone in hitting with men on base; they lead in abs with men on base. This means they have a lot of runners, but can't score them. This is not a good stat for a team that is 11-8 with a very easy schedule so far. Al
Posted by: al at April 26, 2005 10:02 PMDearest Al,
I know it sounds crazy, but as of yesterday, they did. They made a huge deal of it during the game on the radio.

A few mundane thoughts about the game:
Santana/Nathan--what a beautiful pair!
Now can the Twinkers please not have us in heartattackalley tomorrow.
I loved the run in the FIRST BLEEPING INNING!!
I agree with several out there: Tippeeeee--bring him back.
Cuddy--I know he is a fine sweet man but he needs to find his inner bat. Which, you might know, will then fuel his game time bat.
But a win is a win is a win. and I should have more faith in, what do you call him, The Nathanest of Joes. he just looks so nervous on the mound. But he did it!
I like the post a bit back: "Santana/Nathan. Starting and Closing for America"--well stated.
Love to Bat-girl for being who she is and to all of the batlings. Good night. Kal
Posted by: kal at April 26, 2005 10:09 PMPlease check your data: they are awful with men on base, and the more men on base, the awfuller they are. Check out Aaron's blog today. Al
Posted by: al at April 26, 2005 10:11 PMThey are hitting .154 with the bases loaded, so how can they lead the league in hitting with men on base? Puzzledly, Al
Posted by: al at April 26, 2005 10:16 PMI don't know, but Gordo and Jack Morris were quite insistent about it. But there are plenty of RISP opportunities besides bases loaded, obviously.
Posted by: Batgirl at April 26, 2005 10:27 PMIt's true. The twins currently have the best BA with RISP in the AL. .331
Only Colorado is ahead of them.

I suspect we have a lot of on-scoring singles with runners on first and second. How else do we hit .154 with bases loaded.
Wait! Math:
4-26 Bases Loaded and
55-163 RISP
Means 51-137 RISP, with a base open, or .372
I know, that's a lot of stats for batgirl, so i'll stop there.
Posted by: amr at April 26, 2005 11:21 PMamr. when we hit singles with men on first and second, Newmie stops the runner from 2nd at third, so the next guy can ground into a d.p.Whatever we are hitting w/risp, we are not scoring much. Al
Posted by: al at April 27, 2005 12:05 PMThe Twins are 14th in runs scored per AB with RISP (.428). For comparison, Seattle and Det lead with .498. We are 17th in Runs per PA with RISP. We drop because we haven't had any runs walked in yet this year.
