Blogging the Central

Please click over to All-Baseball to see an AL Central round-up written by bloggers of various teams, including yours truly, Batgirl--and leave your comments. Batgirl, naturally, predicts the Twins will win it all, including the Stanley Cup and the Superbowl. Adorably, one blogger predicts that Cleveland will win the Central. That's so cute.

What I want to know is why Batgirl was the only one who took the assignment seriously?

BG,

Great piece. I love your optimism (I think the Twins will win 95 games - 151 is awfully ambitious!)

Win Twins!

Dear Batgirl,
I assume about half of those 11 losses come from playing the Devil Rays?

This reminds me of that scene in that movie where all those scientists are in the white-walled lab figuring out Pythagorian quantum trigonometry and whatnot, and then Carmen Miranda bursts through the doors with her entourage and starts singing "Querido Adao."

So what else is in a Brandy Alexander, besides brandy?

Posted by: Redbird at March 24, 2005 12:48 PM

That's a loaded question BG, watch out. Remember what happened the last time you described the contents of a beverage...

Besides, everybody knows the mystery ingredient is Alexander, duh... Which, coincidentally, is the "other" middle name of one Johan K. Santana.

151 wins means pitching records of about . . .

W L SV
Santana 38 0 (With an ERA of 0.02)
Radke 29 0
Lohse 4 11
Silva 16 0
Mays 20 0
Balfour 5 0
Mullholand 8 0
Romero 5 0
Crain 7 0
Rincon 10 0
Nathan 9 0 76

Then again, maybe I should rethink that . . . only 38 wins for El-Presidente?

Brandy Alexander

2 jiggers dark creme de cocoa
1 jigger brandy
1 pt. vanilla ice cream
1 c. crushed ice

Put all ingredients in blender. Cover and frappe until sherbet consistency. Serve in small brandy snifters with nutmeg sprinkled on top. Yield: 6 (3 oz.) drinks.

Bottoms Up,
Ilk

Ilk,

I (and my future hangover) thank you. But maybe we shouldn't.

It's also adorable how Bill Heeter thinks his Royals might finish in 3rd. To my screwy mind, Rob Neyer and the Tiggers blogger have the most realistic expectations. Batgirl, as always, is the most fun.

Dear Me,
151 wins with these records:
Lohse 4 11
Romero 5 0
Romero would have a 0.00 ERA, but would have let about 25 runners inherited from Lyle/Kyle score. (Is there a Blown Hold stat? Usually, I'd say "L," but if it's not your own runners, its not an "L.")

Also, geez I hope Nathan doesn't have 9 wins. That probably means 9 BSs. I always thought the thing a closer wants is something like 0-0, 80 app. Or did they let him start a few in place of Kyle?

Finally, with those records (38-0, 29-0, 20-0, 16-0, 76S) would Rick Anderson get the Cy Young?

Posted by: amr at March 24, 2005 03:25 PM

I think the 11 losses are from forfeited games during the jail time of serving alcohol to minors/underage drinking. And I'm not sure how Bartlett will play with third-degree burns.

Me: J.Ro getting five wins and no losses. That's so cute! (Occassionally Lyle lets Kyle pitch so four wins isn't a stretch there.) I'm not sure what Bradke's going to do with all those wins, either. He's not really used to that sort of thing.

Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Pittsburgh 0 2 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 5 12 1

Minnesota 0 0 1 3 0 1 0 0 x 5 90 30

we're still knocking the heck outta the ball!

Looks like we will have a lot of offense this year, if these box scores are any indication. But our defense will apparently suffer for it! And we really do need to get those runs across!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at March 24, 2005 04:47 PM

Yeah, but 30 errors... that hurts.

Awesome analysis, BG

The Royals must get two entries because they're in double trouble this year.

However, I am more concerned about the consumption of Sloe Gin Fizzes by our young heroes.

(1 1/4 oz. Sloe Gin, Sour mix, Splash of Soda. Shake & Pour in large glass, Add Splash of Soda, Garnish with an orange slice and cherry.)

This is a drink being forced on young people by Jack White of the White Stripes and Loretta Lynn in the video/song "Portland, Oregon" which my wife finds really freaky. They drink it by the pitcher . . . and a pitcher to go!

Posted by: funoka at March 24, 2005 04:52 PM

The freaky-ist thing about that video, in my opinion, is the kissed shared by Loretta and Jack. Gooooh.

And a pitcher to go!

Posted by: NIH at March 24, 2005 05:05 PM

A pitcher to go? I'll take Nathan.

Funoka says:This is a drink being forced on young people by Jack White of the White Stripes and Loretta Lynn in the video/song "Portland, Oregon" which my wife finds really freaky. They drink it by the pitcher . . . and a pitcher to go!

They were also forced on me like crazy in my carefree college days in upstate NY. Bad hangover always resulted.

Batgirl's report was the only one that made any sense at all. Congrats, BG!!

Posted by: Stacy at March 24, 2005 10:07 PM

All I got was the Twins win and blah blah blah blah blah if monkeys fly out of our pitchers' asses we'll win blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at March 25, 2005 12:04 AM

Funoka -
what's all this talk of sloe gin fizzes? I remember when you were content with a rum & coke in the back of a greyhound bus.

Good golly! Not only do we have the best team in the AL Central, we have the best blogger -- and not just by a little bit. Have these guys ever heard of "fun"? How about "brevity"? Or my personal favorite: "funity"?

Thank heavens for Bat-Girl -- the most enjoyable part of a very enjoyable game!
