9:00am: read Pat Neshek's blog about Sunday. It's the best thing ever.
9:15 am: The Strib has a massive section that will keep you occupied for some time. As does the PiPress. And yes, Batgirl originally typed "The Strib has a massive package."
10:00am: The postseason roster is announced! I'm sure it will be posted, you know, somewhere. Whoever shall it be? Meanwhile, here's the Game 1 roster.
10:15am: Read some previews. The Geek previews the A's. Aaron looks at the Twins for Deadspin, (EDIT: and at the series on AG.com, as does Thank You Brian Sabean.) On Athletics Nation, F.O.B. Blez does a position by position analysis and BaseballGirl notes some inequity in the playoff schedule and calls the commissioner's office.
10:45am: Look at some September awards, particularly AL Pitcher of the Month and AL Rookie of the Month.
11am: Listen to MPR's playoff preview show.
12pm: THE THIRD PHASE OF RAGNAROK BEGINS!

Tonight: Bitch about not getting any love from the MLB.

Seriously, afternoon games? 1, 2 AND 3... SOME of us work 9-5.
Posted by: AN at October 2, 2006 10:56 PMDoes anyone know on what network the games will be caried?
PS *12:00AM* starts suck!
I'm no stickler, but did Neshek really write "Mike Redman"?
I guess I just find that humorous, given that he must see it on a scoreboard at some point, or maybe Mike's uniform or something.
I'll chalk it up to excitement. Understandable.
/Nevertheless, it would give Redmond some great material to rib him about during a mound visit. :)
Posted by: Eric at October 3, 2006 12:01 AMI'm confused as to what people are angry about concerning the post season schedules. Are they mad because the twins/a's have to play at noon while the yankees/mets play prime time? or that games are scheduled at noon period? because I don't know about the ALCS schedule, but the division schedule was already predetermined a while ago. Meaning that if the twins ended up being the top seed team in the playoffs, they would be the ones playing primetime. So I really don't think this has anything to do with east coast bias.
Posted by: STEVE HOLT! at October 3, 2006 12:11 AMOk nevermind. STEVE HOLT! was wrong. I now remember that the times were not listed when they wrote up the division series. So, DAMM the EAST COAST bias. blahhhhhhhhh baseball @ 10am.
Posted by: STEVE HOLT! at October 3, 2006 12:14 AMYou know what sucks?
Having an exam tomorrow from 1130-1.
aaaaaghhhh.
Posted by: anna at October 3, 2006 12:22 AMPlayoff schedules always have seemed to say "pfft" to the midwest teams. Remember the Wild's playoff run and those 9pm HOME starts?
Or how about when the Wolves were in the Conference finals and TNT wouldn't even bother to broadcast the first half of GAME SEVEN in the home market?
Watch this, 30 seconds and I can time it better. *ahem*
As @ Twins: 7 CST (5 on the west coast)
Tigers @ Yanks: Noon CST (1 east coast)
Those times work just fine. Then when the switch...
Twins @ As: 3 CST
Yanks @ Tigers: Noon CST
The idea is to make it easier for the HOME fans to make it to the games. Because that is goal #1. Goal #2 is an attempt at a doable airtime for the road fans.
Posted by: Torhu at October 3, 2006 12:23 AMOh, and this just in:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/columns/story?id=2608050
Jayson Stark (apparently speaking for all of ESPN) declares the Yankees as the 2006 World Champions. So I guess we can go ahead and cancel the playoffs and refund everybody's money.
Posted by: Torhu at October 3, 2006 12:36 AMI'll be doing everything in my power to get out of Accounting class early! Stupid quizzes!
Should be an awesome game and hopefully a great start of the series for the Twins!
Posted by: twins15 at October 3, 2006 01:35 AMAnd speaking of tonight, I have class in about 6 hours... but I think I might have some trouble falling asleep tonight. :)
Posted by: twins15 at October 3, 2006 01:44 AMwell it looks like 3 hours of staring at gameday tomorrow...then again I am in the bay area, maybe they'll show it on the TV in the breakroom...
Posted by: Mark at October 3, 2006 02:48 AMAfter suffering from Twins induced ADD yesterday, I experienced Twins induced insomnia last night. I think I slept for about 3 hours. Thank goodness I'm going to the game - there's no way I could stay awake at work all day. I sure hope the players had a better night's rest.
And BG is correct, Neshek's latest blog entry is the best thing ever.
Posted by: Attyfan at October 3, 2006 07:07 AMwell, to start out your schedule for today, may I offer up Cuddyer's playoff blog?
http://michaelcuddyer.mlblogs.com/
Sorry if it's already posted somewhere and I missed it.
Posted by: aurora at October 3, 2006 07:30 AMLook, I have compassion for all of you that will have trouble watching the game at noon.
But, as the French Ambassador to Batlingdom and Twins Territory I think it is just wonderful that the games are on at 7PM over here instead of 3 o'clock in the morning! Yippee for me! (Not really diplomatic for an ambassador..)
Good News - President Cyntana
Bad News- Zito and the rest of the A's staff make me really nervous.
Good - Jasons and M&M's.
Bad - LNP needs to resharpen his piranha teeth.
Good - Twins bull pen way ahead in the FHI (Facial Hair Index)
Bad - Darth Thomas can hit the ball a very long way.
Good - Happy to be here after the awfulness of the first month, but I think the boys have their sights set a little higher.
Play ball! Win Twins!
Posted by: Moe at October 3, 2006 07:31 AMI had Twins insomnia as well. MLB, this bad karma you're trying to induce with your afternoon starts will only come back to haunt you. Seriously. And Jayson Stark, I really had thought better of you. But Eric Neel picked us to win it all, and Eric Neel is considerably cooler than Jayson Stark anyways.
Undaunted, I have rearranged one work schedule and will eliminate another altogether if it comes to a Game 5 on Sunday. And I'm eating my good luck Fruit Loops this morning.
Well done, Moe. Vive la Twins.
Zito-Santana. Bring on RAGNAROK!!!!
Posted by: Carmen at October 3, 2006 07:41 AMI agree with Torhu . . .
Tonight's game won't get over until midnight East Coast time! How can kids stay up that late? Think of the kids, man . . .
Attyfan, I seem to be suffering from the same affliction. I was awake at 3:00 this morning, frantically trying to remove an ink stain from my Santana jersey.
The nice thing about a day game is that I can go home and take a nice, long nap afterwards...
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at October 3, 2006 08:01 AMBefore we get our Midwest undies all in a bunch, more of the ESPN "experts" have picked the Twins to win it all than any other team. If everybody agreed on who was going to win we'd miss half the fun. So relax and enjoy, for Gwynn's sake!
See you at the Dome!
Posted by: Word Smith at October 3, 2006 08:23 AMSorry Torhu, but the #1 goal of the schedule is to maximize network profits. They are the ones who are paying MLB to air the playoffs and they are the ones who set the schedule. So as I see it those of use in flyover land should simply refuse to watch the Yankees on TV (unless of course we're playing them). If enough people do it to affect the ratings (and that is doubtful) then maybe the networks will change their tune. But until that happens we should resign overselves to noon games (or playing the Yankees).
But yes, it does suck. I'm letting my son take the day off from school today to go to the Dome but am making him go to school tomorrow. (I on the other hand have vacation days to burn so I get to go to both games. Whoppee!)
Posted by: JeffTheRealist at October 3, 2006 08:44 AMi am baffled by ESPN's list of reasons they picked the yankees to win. i am absolutely BAFFLED. derek jeter? he's a reason?!
Posted by: twins21 at October 3, 2006 08:53 AMHas anyone noticed the wealth of "Big Lebowski" references that permeate many Twins blogs? Twayn has favored us with several, I've dropped a few, and now the "Pulling a Blyleven" crew comes on strong with their "don't f**k with DeJesus" bit. It's good to see that I'm not alone in my appreciation for that oft-misunderstood Coen Brothers classic...though "Barton Fink" is still my favorite.
Oh, and let's win today, OK? Great. El Presidente es muy grande.
Posted by: adidasman at October 3, 2006 09:13 AMRevenue or not, theses noon (10:00 pacific) games make no sense to me... There's got to be a better way and an option that makes more money for the networks -- will they make ANY $$$ on the noon games?? What about a 4:00 start, at least?? Even 3:00 would be better... I just don't get it...
Posted by: rotrhed at October 3, 2006 09:17 AMjohan = a.l. pitcher of the month. BOOF = a.l. rookie of the month. NICE! i agree with all on the schedule issues. luckily i work the family business during the day(dad's as big a fan as i am) and bartend at a sports bar at night. sure glad all that college didn't pay off now...last place i want to be is in an office watching the red dots on mlb gamecast.... win twins , wish i could be at the dome with you all!!!! well next series for sure.. win twins and thanks bat-girl!
Posted by: hook10 at October 3, 2006 10:29 AMI guess I'm more pragmatic about the start times. It's not great, obviously, but it's also not surprising given the money that the networks pay for those rights. (I'm old enough to remember when all the World Series games were played during the day time, including that 1965 Series with the Twins/Dodgers. Think it wasn't tough going to school that year?)
Yes, they could split the games and broadcast the game to the local market that they want to see. But that's what FOX did a few years back, as I recall, and they caught a huge amount of grief over that. (Imagine if BatGirl, Jeb and other east coast Batlings had to watch the Yankees/Tigers tonight while the Twins/A's were playing at the same time.)
The fact is, they've got 3 games to show the next couple of days and the only way to do that and still allow the whole country to see all of every game is to have one start at noon. Would it be more "fair" to swap the roles on Wednesday? Yes. But TV ratings rule the entertainment world and they always will.

Posted by: JimCrikket at October 3, 2006 10:32 AMIs anyone else getting tired of reading about how deep the Yankees' lineup is? Yes, I get it, they have 9 guys in their lineup who can hit a homer pretty much at will, and probably a bunch of guys off the bench who can too. And yet, for all that offensive power, they only won one more game than the Twins did during the regular season, and only 4 more than the A's did. Give me a break!
Posted by: Tricia at October 3, 2006 10:48 AMLong time reader, first time commentor. Good luck to you Twins in the playoffs!! Now that my beloved White Sox are sitting in their Lazy Boys working on their beer guts, I can sit back and cheer on the Twins without guilt. I hope they win it all. Sox fans in general have always respected the Twins org, and have always been in awe of their ability to get the most out of their talent. Of all the playoff teams, the Twins are by far my preferred winner. Also, I think I have a non-sexual man crush on the Chairman (please don't tell Joe Crede).
Thanks BatGirl - I love the sass and I love the lego.
Posted by: White Sox Guy at October 3, 2006 10:50 AMp.s. I didn't mean to sound so defensive in my previous post. Sorry. These playoffs will be fun to watch!
Posted by: Tricia at October 3, 2006 10:57 AM10 freakin' am, Pacific Time. I'll get to listen to it a little bit on radio - and that will mostly be pre-game hoopla anyway - but then I'll be in meetings for most of the game. 10am. If I were an Oakland fanatic, or a Twin Cities emigrant, I would go postal. I guess you could take time off work, but surely there must be a more equitable way of scheduling these games so the west coast doesn't get so obviously shafted.
Why *do* we put up with this treatment, anyway? Some rich dude needs to push an anything-but-east-coast-bias sports "entertainment" military-industrial complex out here, or in the midwest.
Oh, and GO TWINS. Thank god for Tivo.
