Batgirl was on a plane for much of tonight's game, so she will rely on you, her darlings, to fill her in on the salient details. All she knows is she called BatMom and Dad as soon as she got off and heard lots of whooping. Something about Justin Morneau and a two run double to give the Twins the lead for the first time that night. The Good Doctor was 3 for 4, raising his average to .324, and gave the Twins the victory, adding to his MVP case, and making him the Boyfriend of the Day.
Readers/The Field 25; Goober/Doctor 24; Sooz/(Cuddy) 12; Batbaby/Torii 11; Batgirl/Chairman 7; Jeb/Lewwww 4.
Posted by Batgirl at September 12, 2006 10:58 PMCongratulations Good Dr.
Posted by: Twin-X at September 12, 2006 11:11 PMA DH with zero career HRs. BRILLIANT.
My props to the Doctor. Gaining speed in the MVP race for sure.
An interesting statistic from tonights game:
The twins 3, 4, and 5 hitters are batting 1.000 in innings immediately after Bert circles a baby who had just spit-up on his father's head.
I was at the game tonight and it was glorious. That 8th inning rally was one of the best I've ever seen the Twins produce. Good stuff.
The crowd was trying to get the "M - V - P" chant going after Morneau hit that double.
Posted by: BadAndy48 at September 12, 2006 11:14 PMBadAndy: You could hear the MVP chant, and if you couldn't the Strib report wrote it up as proof.
I love my team. Also the house of cards is falling dramatically over on the A's blogs. I feel kind of bad for them.
WOW. just wow.
Posted by: kafumbly at September 12, 2006 11:21 PMThat bottom of the 8th was a thing of beauty after a somewhat beastly night on the mound and basepaths. A little piranha by Punto, a little patience by the Chairman, and then the double shark bites by Cuddy and the Doctor. Not a pretty win, but an exciting finish. That makes two straight series wins against division leaders with a five game streak going. And tomorrow, we get to witness the first start by the two-headed Liriarza. Unfortunately, the umpires in Detroit didn't have the sense to come in out of the rain. Stupid Carlos Guillen.
Posted by: twayn at September 12, 2006 11:26 PMIf the ball hadn't bounced over the wall, maybe Mauer would have scored, Cuddy would have gotten 100 RBIs, and HE would have been BOD (potentially.)
Isn't it great when there are so many BOD candidates in one game??
Posted by: Donnalove at September 12, 2006 11:37 PMNathan's heroics, considering what he went thru the previous game, were certainly of boyfriend calibre, but, if you were on a plane, I understand. Al
Posted by: al at September 12, 2006 11:37 PMTX Ken, I am glad I was not eating or drinking whan I read that.
Posted by: Twin-X at September 12, 2006 11:43 PMI of course mean I would have to clean the computer screen :-)
Posted by: Twin-X at September 12, 2006 11:45 PMOMG that baby spitting up on the father's head was just about the funniest thing I had ever seen. HILARIOUS.
Posted by: gina at September 12, 2006 11:49 PMAs an uprooted Minnesotan, I'm rooting for the Twins out here in San Francisco. I come to this site to revel in the victories in BatGirl fashion and for consolation after the (rare) losses.
I also want to say that the comments of fellow readers are refreshingly KIND to one another. None of this "you're an idiot" lame stuff you see on other blogs. Thank you, everyone!
Posted by: Jasonious at September 13, 2006 12:23 AMI concur. Baby spit up on head was television gold.
So was the glorious comeback in the 8th. That's the stuff dreams are made of.
Posted by: Spacey Stacey at September 13, 2006 12:46 AMI'll keep my thoughts short and sweet.
Morneau:
Very
Productive
The third hottest race in baseball (central, WC) is Justin Morneau vs the field. And If weren't for Johan Santana's uber hottness, It'd be Dr. Neau hands down. Its really too bad writers won't factor BOD performance into their MVP votes.
Posted by: Bob at September 13, 2006 02:31 AMBecause the Twins won, I can say this: that throw from Swisher to nail Morneau at the plate was pretty cool. He almost flipped over on the follow-through.
(If the Twins had lost by one run, I'd be pissed, of course.)
How 'bout a little love for one of the better DH performances we've seen lately?

I'm killing myself for turning off the TV after the 7th last night. Watching Torii ground into ANOTHER double play... well, I'd just had enough and I had an early wake up this morning. That'll teach me... I had to settle for ESPN radio's sub-par re-cap :(
Oh, and TX Ken... you know the rule about stats... but as long as you threw the baby spit up qualifier in there, I guess BG would say it's OK. :)

Which is one of the many reasons I enjoy this terrific website! Props to Batgirl and the Batlings for their collective civility and just darned good manners!
And I know this is old news for most of you, but I just watched "Oh Five!" for the first time and can't stop laughing--Joe Mauer's musical debut is classic!
Posted by: JetChick at September 13, 2006 08:41 AMRenyt definitely deserved Player of the Game status with that strike-out/RBI at bat...and some good run-scoring hits...i thought he might make BOD, too. but i certainly won't argue with the Good Doctor getting another vote, he's so going to win the race this year. He doesn't seem to care about winning the MVP vote (such a team player!), but i'm sure he'd be ecstatic to win BOD of the year.
Did anyone see Morneau's post-game interview with Marney? he was gazing down at her so adoringly...i think Morney loves Marney! and who doesn't?
I think that baby spit up on his mom's head. the timing of that was perfect.
You know, with all the talk of Mauer's avg, Morneau for MVP, and Cy-tana....
Has anybody considered that Gardy's putting himself in a pretty good spot for that Manager of the Year award he's been cheated out of several times in his career?
Posted by: Torhu at September 13, 2006 11:27 AMUnfortunately, Torhu, Leyland is going to win. Even if the Tigers miss the playoffs I still think he'd win.
Posted by: IcePhoenix at September 13, 2006 04:00 PMI've seen Gardy's name mentioned, because of the huge turnaround the Twins made after such an abyssmal start this season. The edge easily goes to Leyland, though, as he had years and years of worst-in-baseball sucktitude to overcome.
