"Just hit a double, Kubes," BG said, "and I'll give you the BOD."
"A double, my ass," said Kubel. "Instead, I shall go boom."
"Excellent choice," said BG. "I applaud you."

Posted by Batgirl at June 13, 2006 10:41 PMGod, I love this game of base-ball. Sniff.
Posted by: Kurtis at June 13, 2006 10:45 PMWould've never thunk it!
Posted by: Bri at June 13, 2006 10:46 PMAND EVEN KG stayed til the end! I finally...have regained my breathing abilities.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
INCREDIBLY FABULOUS GAME TO ALL.
Posted by: jill at June 13, 2006 10:47 PMI LOVE that Kevin Garnett stayed right to the end.
Oh sweet mercy it's good to know the Twins still put on a great show even if they're not playing .600 ball. Still gotta love this team!
Posted by: sacky at June 13, 2006 10:51 PMAnd as if that's not happy ending enough... here comes that other Jason.

Posted by: Kurtis at June 13, 2006 10:52 PMI mainly stared at my screen and said "wah?" and then went "omgyay!"
Posted by: L. at June 13, 2006 10:52 PMDennys Sampler gets a win! Yeah!
Posted by: Donnalove at June 13, 2006 10:55 PMNow that I'm able to breath...wow.
And all it took was some serious positive thinking.
We all shared a moment in that thread, and we all grew because of it.
Posted by: Torhu at June 13, 2006 10:55 PMThat was awesome!
I was just despairing, the bases where loaded, and we all know how good the twins ate with the bases loaded and then "touch em all" I love baseball *smiles then sniffs* and Santana, so cool!
Kurtis-
The second story on that page. Of course none of the Twins are on HGH. If they were, maybe we would have had a 30 home run guy in the last 18 years (not counting this year).
What an amazing win. I still cant believe that happened. Kubel for a regular starting position!
Posted by: TwinsinBoston at June 13, 2006 10:57 PMAnd how about Fat Tony and Cuddles sneaking up on Kubel as he was being interviewed on TV after the game and dousing him with red Gatorade? Sticky liquid never tasted so sweet!
Posted by: The Commish at June 13, 2006 10:59 PMThis game showed pretty much all the reasons to keep watching the Twins despite a poor season, bad defense, and questionable (I'm being kind) managing.
Johan Santana, dominant. Joe Mauer, doing what he does. Justin Morneau showing some nice power. And Jason Kubel (and maybe that-other-Jason) growing into MLB starters.
Let the kids play.
Posted by: neutrino boi at June 13, 2006 10:59 PMBartles is coming, Bartlet is coming, goodbye batista goodbye batista. Bat-girl your “free bartlet” campaign worked!
Posted by: Twin-X at June 13, 2006 11:03 PMGreat game all around (if you don't count that mini meltdown by Niles Crain and that whole "try to steal 3rd base with a lefthanded hitter up" thing by Torii). I'm firmly in the "let the kids play" category myself. Bring up JB, Neshek, and whoever else is showing any promise at Rochester and let them play ball.
Well earned BOD for Jason "wow I just was going for a SAC fly" Kubel.
Posted by: JimCrikket at June 13, 2006 11:08 PMI currently live in Boston, and let me tell you, it rocked to be able to scream as that ball went out in the 12th at my local watering hole.
Really a war of attrition - Crain was better than Tavarez, who needs more than one run to preserve the win. My friend (Red Sox fan) called it - as soon as Cuddles got hit in the ribs, he knew the game was over. Tavarez has one pitch (the one he got Mauer on), but when you throw it four times to the same batter, well, it might end up flying out of the park...
Wheew hope I can sober up by morning...heh

Posted by: Mark at June 13, 2006 11:08 PMThank you for beating the evil red sox, now if you could just find it in your hearst to trade Johan to us I would be forever grateful
Posted by: public enemy mike at June 13, 2006 11:13 PMWe'll give you Johan only so long as you alter the MLB rule to make draft picks tradeable and then give us every one of yours for the next quarter century...and front us all the money for our new stadium...and we'll take any three of your players at our choosing. That's a fair deal.
Posted by: Mike at June 13, 2006 11:20 PMAlmost had a tear in my eye for Kubel.
And....did I miss something? Is Bartlett getting called up to the big club? I need answers.
Posted by: jimbaseball at June 13, 2006 11:22 PMheard on the radio postgame
Batista desingated for assingment
Bartlett coming up
yes jim b, he's been told he's coming up... no word yet on who's departing to make room for him. Makes one wonder if a 'Rondell for minor league talent' kind of deal might not be imminent.
Posted by: JimCrikket at June 13, 2006 11:25 PMDear Mr. Crikket,
In fact, they just announced on the radio, T-Fat has been DFA.
Sincerely,
BG
ah, ok... Batista makes as much sense. When Sierra and/or Stewart are ready to return, White and perhaps Castro will be walking the same plank.
Posted by: JimCrikket at June 13, 2006 11:28 PMWhat an adrenaline rush. Amazing pitching, the extra-inning showdown, and BAM! I like how Kubel is trying to prove me wrong. Keep it up! Make me eat my words!
And Bartlett? Really? Eeeeee! This night just keeps getting better and better.
Posted by: FordHoiberg at June 13, 2006 11:29 PMBack to Japan with you, Batista! Ah hell, you couldn't hit worth a damn there, either.
Off with you to Mexico!
Posted by: Mike at June 13, 2006 11:31 PMAnd another thing: how about some divine intervention and giving (Matt) Moses a chance at the hot corner? He's got pop, and I think he won't embarass himself in the pros.
Posted by: Mike at June 13, 2006 11:34 PMOnce we outlasted Papelbon I knew we had a good chance. When Tavarez relieved Timlin I knew we'd tie. When Torii was walked intentionally I had a feeling there was going to be a baggie involved.
Wow, what a game.
Though I'm sure I wasn't the only one, I have to tell you all...I totally called that Kubel grand slam.
And sorry PEM, but there is nothing in the world that could possibly be enough for us to trade our beloved El Presidente to your evil Yankee empire.
Here's hoping that Johan rubs some of that fabulous mojo on to the pitching arm of Brad Radke before his performance tomorrow night, as I will be at the game & I would dearly love to be able to be glad I am there, rather than wishing I had been there tonight instead, which, of course, I do.
Now, back to my tape of "Rescue Me", which is exactly what Young Mr. Kubel did for all of us tonight.
Thanks Jason!!
And congrats on your very first BOD award.
I'm sure it won't be the last!!
If only KG would show up at the end of Timberwolves games too...
I'm really into the developing clutch-ness of these young players. And I'm getting tingly just thinking about watching these fellas win a World Series in our outdoor park.
Is that overly optimistic?
Posted by: Mr. Brown at June 13, 2006 11:49 PMAnd Johan struck out #1000 (David Ortiz). We enjoyed that. It was an incredible game to attend! But Jason, BOD for that grand slam is a well-deserved honor. Thanks for sending us home giddy with excitement.
Posted by: Just Beth at June 13, 2006 11:52 PMThank goodness - my wife would have been pissed if I watched another game just to have Crain blow it in the 12th inning.
Is it just me, or does this club love baseball so much that they are trying for extra innings?
Posted by: Mark at June 13, 2006 11:52 PMI couldn't see the game, but it sure is nice to get a sense of the feeling! I think this surge of youth we're starting to see is going to be a lot of fun for everyone involved.
Posted by: Bob at June 13, 2006 11:58 PMJesse just wanted to make it interesting. ;-)
Jason Kubel is my hero for saving my boyfriend's ass! I  Jason Kubel.
Posted by: kafumbly at June 14, 2006 12:04 AMWell, what else can be said other than one hell of a comeback! My gf also jumped up and screamed with me when Dick said it was a grand slam (and boy did he sound surprised). Still a shame Santana couldn't get a W here-he proved again why he is the best.
Yes to Barlett being freed!
As for Batista being gone. best of luck but honestly it shouldn't have ever gotten this far. It will be interesting to see how the 4 man platoon of Rex-Tiffee-Castro-Punto will do.
Next is Rondell's turn to bow out once Stewie and Sierra come back.
Posted by: Shaun at June 14, 2006 12:31 AMOMG! I'm so happy the Twins pulled it out tonight otherwise I'd be doubley depressed since the Mavs gave one away to the Heat. I'm going to have to beg my wife to let me spring for MLBTV.
I agree with Mike. Yanks can have Johan for ARod, Jeter, cash (someone has to pay their salaries and it ain't going to be Pohlad) and a new stadium (with a roof). Hell, we'll throw in Fat Tony and Castro just to sweeten the pot (Yay for Bartlett)!

Posted by: bayareatwinsfan at June 14, 2006 12:33 AMTHAT was worth the price of admission. More, please.
Posted by: twayn at June 14, 2006 01:15 AMWOW I picked the right game to get a look at the metrodome!! Guy sitting next to us said at the beginning--we are gonna see a walkoff homer...great to see Johan's 1000 career strikeout.
DAM
Posted by: DAM-DC Twins Fan at June 14, 2006 09:03 AMY'know, for a brief moment there in the 2nd inning, I wondered if any pitcher had ever thrown a perfect game with 27 strikeouts...
Posted by: Salt-Man Z at June 14, 2006 09:03 AMPerfect game, no, 27 strikeouts yes. A pitcher by the name of Ron Necciai ("net-shy") pitched 27 K's in 1952 for the Class D (equivalent to the rookie-ball rating of today) Bristol Twins (absolutely no relation to our Twins), against the Welch Miners, while on a recuperative assignment from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Four hitters reached base on a walk, an error, a hit by pitch and a passed ball on strike 3.
Posted by: Mark at June 14, 2006 09:08 AMSalt-Man,
You and me both!
Steel Kuballs.
Posted by: Brienne at June 14, 2006 12:02 PMMy wife and I decided last week to go to a game on this homestand, her choice. She picked Saturday's game, the one without great pitching or walkoff home runs... is this grounds for divorce?
Also, if the Twins had managed to turn the douple play in the 12th, where would that rank on your list of all time great plays?
Posted by: Joe at June 14, 2006 12:48 PMA friend and I went to the game the day after the Grandest of Slams by Chin Kubes and our seats were out in left field. Some guy behind us yelled at Kubes before the game whilst he was warming up, saying that he had a wonderful game the night before. He kinda looked and smiled in our general direction and my friend went
ape-$#!t. Boyfriend in the making...he did look Be-A-Utiful though!
