Joe Mauer's not the only one male modeling during the off-season. Donnalove sends this picture of the Jackal:

Damn, Jackal. If that jacket were any hotter it would be Johan Santana. I'm glad to see a little sartorial style around here. If only the Jackal had been around to give celebs dressing advice pre-Golden Globes, Gwyneth might not have worn an oversized doily and Drew Barrymore might have put on a bra. If he's not next to Michael Kors and Nina Garcia judging the next Project Runway, Batgirl's going to be crushed.
Also, Imprvyz sends this tidbit from an MLB.com article about the Twins Caravan:
Thanks to a broken coffee mug that punctured one of the front tires of the Twins' bus, the caravan was delayed for 45 minutes on Tuesday morning. Those traveling on the northwest leg of this year's tour -- manager Ron Gardenhire, pitching coach Rick Anderson, outfielder Lew Ford, shortstop Jason Bartlett and WCCO Radio's John Gordon -- were forced into a change of plans but made the most of the downtime.Posted by Batgirl at January 18, 2006 08:32 AMAs the bus had its tire replaced, the group sat inside the teacher's lounge of Detroit Lakes Middle School and found plenty of entertainment between talking baseball and filling out crossword and Sudoku puzzles.
"Nothing like doing Sudoku puzzles, huh?" said Ford with a smile.
i think the Jackal was wearing that jacket when they stopped in Rochester last winter. the first words out of his mouth were about how cold it was. poor guy.
Posted by: TeeNutts at January 18, 2006 08:52 AMthe jackal is supposed to hit sioux falls next week. batgirl, you've just given me incentive to attend. hot jacket, carlos!
Posted by: Say Rah! at January 18, 2006 10:41 AMTypical Lew Ford comment, ah, how I dislike the offseason, I miss you Lew!
And my, that jacket is hot.
Posted by: Hannah (the second) at January 18, 2006 10:46 AMThank God I'm not the only one that's watched Project Runway. How did this happen? I usually cannot stand reality TV, and I care this much ---> <--- about fashion, as evidenced by the fact that 4 of the 8 pairs of shoes I own are Chuck Taylors. Still, if it's on I find myself caring about who wins that weeks Banana Republic challenge or whatever.
Posted by: Skorch at January 18, 2006 12:38 PMDearest Mr. Skorch,
Because it's the best show ever.
Love,
Batgirl
Dearest Batgirl: Project Runway > The Gong Show? Lets not go overboard.
Besides, Nick and Santino have no business being on the show after that lousy day-to-night ensemble and window they put together. Saved by Marla and Diana's ineptitude indeed. I like Santino though, even if he is a bit cocky.
Posted by: Skorch at January 18, 2006 12:56 PMWow. Lew really *is* the coolest nerd ever.
Posted by: Deanna at January 18, 2006 01:44 PMDearest Batgirl -
Better then Top Model oh come on =)
Better then American Idol - maybe but you can't laugh as much on Project Runway -my sister is so addicted to Project Runway it's crazy =)
Much Love
Wonder Woman
Awwww, Lew. I figure he could fill one out in, like, 30 seconds.
Dear Carlos,
How YOU doin'?

Sodoku in the evening
latino players in hot leather jackets

these are a few of my favorite things
Dear Batgirl
There is nothing wrong with a bra-less Drew Barrymore. Just ask David Letterman.
Will there be batcoverage of the Baseball World Classic ? What team will team Batgirl be supporting ?

RD seconds Skorch's comments about Nick and Santino's work on Project Runway last week. In fact, it was the second time that Santino should have been eliminated. But the judges seem to keep him around because he makes good TV even if he has no good fashion sense. The way he disrespected Michael Kors last week reminded me of when Randy Johnson asked, "Who's Hank Aaron?"
For the record, RD is thrilled to be able to tie in Project Runway and baseball.
I do miss Wendy.
Posted by: RonDavis at January 18, 2006 04:13 PMBatgirl,
You keep getting cooler by the second. Project Runway is an amazing show!
Excitedly,
Candace
P.S. Lew is so adorable!!!
Posted by: Candace at January 18, 2006 05:59 PMSince the Twins were eliminated, I have been out of the country. OK, I was huddled in the corner of my cellar. But now that I am back with the living, what info is there on Silvas injury? Everything cool?
Posted by: Scotty_Dawg at January 18, 2006 06:35 PMhttp://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/john_donovan/01/18/al.grades/1.html SI has their hot stove grades out. let's just say this guy wasn't a very big fan of the twins.
Posted by: paul at January 18, 2006 07:17 PMJust one more thing to love about Lewwwwwww! I'd totally marry him if he were on the market.
Posted by: Jaguar at January 18, 2006 07:44 PMCarlos Silva is hot!!!!
I can never figure out those damn puzzles
Posted by: Rivasfan at January 18, 2006 10:35 PMdidn't lew score like 1400 on his sat's that explians it. I try and do those during my classes some of them can take awhile. It's a good thing my parents aren't paying for my edumaction they might not be very happy.
Posted by: paul at January 18, 2006 10:42 PMmike brings up a good question. More importantly, has President Bush decided whether to recognize the People's Republic of Canazuela (and allow them to play in the WBC) and who will be playing for us?
It's a valid question...
YF
P.S. I'm dying over here waiting for an Alex Rodriguez conversation to start. Forced into a position of defending him during times that are borderline defensible (see, e.g., girlie swat at first base; see also choking in the playoffs; and see Rodriguez v. Ortiz MVP Debate) -- put me on the other side for this one -- what a maroon!
Posted by: YankeeFan at January 19, 2006 07:37 AMA-guez should be his new nickname. That's all i have to say about that.
Posted by: paul at January 19, 2006 09:40 AMHe flip-flops more than Mayor Quimby.
Posted by: heraldguy at January 19, 2006 09:42 AMHey, that pic is the same one from the Twin's web page....coolio!
Posted by: dirtdawg at January 19, 2006 10:31 AMB/c I mentioned a story that said he Doctor wasn't coming to Twinsfest I now feel it important to give a link to another Startrib story that says he will be there.
http://www.startribune.com/507/story/191525.html
Why is it that all Twins news in the Trib is contradicted days later? At least lately...
Posted by: caluofmn at January 19, 2006 10:47 AMReading all about the caravan (and lew ford on the caravan) just makes me so happy. why can't it be april yet? geez, i miss baseball
Posted by: Hannah! at January 19, 2006 11:57 AMIf anyone is still interested in red hot WBC talk, this is the list of Twins players who made rosters (who will play and how much is anyone's guess)
from http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/051205wbcplayers.htm
Williams, Glenn (Australia)
Crain, Jesse (Canada)
Morneau, Justin (Canada)
Castro, Juan (Mexico)
Romero, J.C. (Puerto Rico)
Mauer, Joe (United States)
Santana, Johan (Venezuela)
Silva, Carlos (Venezuela)
Dear cal:
That's just Sid. Believe only about half of what he says.
Dear d:
Thanks! I was curious about that; especially our Venezuelan hotties.

Posted by: k-bro at January 19, 2006 01:39 PMAdding to Twins WBC list:
Nathan will be in bullpen for USA--along with Lidge and Wagner. Rincon will be in pen for Venezuela. Koskie (almost a Twin again) is playing 3B for Canada.
At end of Terry Ryan interview at Twins website--he mentioned worried about injury in WBC--so am I--too many Twins pitchers including most of pen in WBC instead of spring training.
I second motion to have BG coverage (legovision??) of WBC.
DAM
Posted by: DAM-DC Twins Fan at January 19, 2006 01:43 PMMore WBC news--according to Twins web site--23 Twins (many from minors) are on WBC rosters. Here are a few more--Lil Rod (Ven.); Reyes (Mexico) Liriano (Dom. Rep.). Thats like 8 pitchers...Venezuela has strong pitching, Santana, Silva, Garcia and both Zambranos with KRod and Rincon in pen...team worth watching.
DAM
Posted by: DAM-DC Twins Fan at January 19, 2006 01:56 PMI looked on the WBC page and put the teams into a speadsheet and the twins have the most people in the WBC followed by the mets.
Posted by: paul at January 19, 2006 03:03 PMWill the fact that A Rod is playing for the US make more people root for or against the team.
Posted by: public enemy mike at January 19, 2006 03:21 PMThanks, paul, for the heads-up on the Donovan article at SI.com. You're right -- he's not high on the Twins, but this is a puzzler, I think:
"Talks for Alfonso Soriano and many others went nowhere. So Minnesota had to settle for getting second baseman Luis Castillo, one of the Marlins' castoffs, to help its leaky infield."
Exsqueeze me? Does that mean Carlos Delgado and Juan Pierre are "Marlins' castoffs," as well? Getting trading by Florida this year does not make one a bad baseball player.
Posted by: hrunting at January 19, 2006 03:22 PMre: P.E.M.'s last comment -
I'll personally be rooting more for good baseball than any specific nation. I'm just totally hyped that this whole thing is coming together. Now all we need is Cuba...
Posted by: heraldguy at January 19, 2006 03:33 PMMLB is now saying they are "cautiously optimistic" that the Bush Administration will approve their reapplication to allow Cuba to play. The question I have is, will the Cuban gov't allow Cubans playing professionally in the US to represent them in the tournament? Most of them didn't exactly leave Cuba under the best circumstances.
Posted by: JimCrikket at January 19, 2006 04:03 PMJackal was dressed pretty nicely at last year's Caravan, but that jacket is a big step up!!
Posted by: Stacy at January 19, 2006 10:06 PM"Will the fact that A Rod is playing for the US make more people root for or against the team."
It shouldn't matter who's playing for the team...if you're an American, you should root for team USA (i'm not an overly nationalistic or patriotic person...but I believe you've always gotta root for your home team.)
Posted by: Josh at January 20, 2006 12:31 AMProject Runway and Dancing with the Stars are the only things getting me through the offseason.
