Before many Twins home games, the clubhouse blares with sounds of reggaeton, rap with a Latin twist. But many of the Twins listen to their own music collections on iPods, the personal audio players that have become hugely popular in recent years.Posted by Batgirl at September 13, 2005 10:13 AM"If you watch before the game, there will be 15 guys in here with iPods on," catcher Mike Redmond said. "I guess that's the new trend"...
..."I've got mostly country music. I've got some rap. I've got some Top 40 stuff. I like pretty much anything country. Tim McGraw. I've got Jessica Simpson. I've got Tupac. I like a lot of different stuff. But if I was going to buy a CD or something, it'd probably be a country CD."
I can't help but laugh hysterically at the fact that Redmond listens to Jessica Simpson!!! Classic.

Wonder Woman
You know maybe he missed that 'great performance' by Ashlee on SNL - that surely would have turned him into a bigger Ashlee fan
Posted by: Wonder Woman at September 13, 2005 09:45 AMI was hoping Batgirl would comment on this. I don't quite get ballplayer's taste... since when are rap and country so interchangable? Seems like an odd combo to me.
Posted by: Neil at September 13, 2005 10:16 AMOh wow...Redmond. Jessica Simpson. That's going to be all I think about all day. So entertaining our beloved Twins are.
Posted by: Stacy at September 13, 2005 10:27 AMDear Neil,
Rap and country became interchangeable the moment the MUZIK MAFIA happened. You probably know them best as Big & Rich, Cowboy Troy (the only African-American Mandarin Chinese-speaking Country Rapper), Gretchen Wilson, & Co. They all sing a really bizarre (yet incredibly cool) combination of rap and country.
Helpfully,
Annun
Anbody who take NBP would have to like the Red Hot Chilllllli Peppers
Posted by: soccerfan at September 13, 2005 02:28 PMMy iPod also suffers from Musical Identity Disorder. It's the absolute best thing about having one.
Some of the Twins music the Strib reported on earlier in the year included:
Jason Bartlett: LCD Soundsystem, "Daft Punk is Playing at My House."
Joe Mauer: The Game, "How We Do."
Justin Morneau: AC/DC, "Back in Black."
Torii Hunter: Bonecrusher, "Never Scared."
Jacque Jones: The Game, "Where I'm From." Juvenile, "Bounce Back." T.I., "Bring 'Em Out."
. . . Jacque likes variety!
Lew Ford: Tree 63, "Treasure."
Michael Cuddyer: OutKast, "Behold A Lady."
>They all sing a really bizarre (yet incredibly cool) combination of rap and country.
Neal McCoy, Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker and others pre-date the Muzik Mafia with that country+rap=crap stuff. And it's all incredibly, absolutely, embarrassingly bad.
Why any of the above, most of whom are actually very talented country singers, bother with such inane novelty "music" is baffling.
Posted by: Franorama at September 13, 2005 09:08 PMI like neither country nor rap, but I have to confess that a few months ago I saw Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy perform "I Played Chicken with the Train" on Leno and it blew me away. I'd never seed anything like it. Went right on over to iTunes and snatched a copy for my iPod.
Posted by: kojak at September 14, 2005 01:42 AMI have seen Big&Rich (and Cowboy Troy) live 2 times and they amazed me both times. I love 'em!
