'05.

Oh, my darlings, the time will soon be nigh. The winter has been dark and dreary, but soon sunlight will be upon us all. The Twins season starts on Monday and we may all live again.

With the dawn of the season comes the dawn of Batgirl '05. A few changes this year: Batgirl will post open threads for every game. To prevent the dreaded condition known as Blogger's Burn Out (See: DSM-IVR) Batgirl will not be writing game recaps over the weekends this year, but will be back and open for business Monday mornings with weekend recaps. There will still be open threads, though.

Monday, the Twins open the season in Seattle at 4:00. Please join Batgirl at The Bulldog to watch the game. If you have work, I suggest calling in sick.

Take my hands, my friends, for baseball is back and there is much rejoicing in the BatQuarters.

Well, thank goodness I'll be out of a job after tomorrow! I'll have no conflicts and will be at the Bulldog on Monday.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at March 30, 2005 12:52 PM

The season starts on Sunday. I even have tickets for the game.

Posted by: NYY at March 30, 2005 12:58 PM

Got my tickets for the Seattle opener as well. Can't wait to watch Johan shut out the new look Mariners!

Posted by: rsmithx at March 30, 2005 01:12 PM

Isn't Rad Brad our opening game pitcher?

Posted by: Say Rah! at March 30, 2005 01:13 PM

I have a major dilema. I took Monday off so I can watch baseball (and drink beer) all day with a buddy. Now do I wear:
1) The vintage Twins Powder Blue Jersey
2) The vintage Senators Harmon Killebrew Jersey
3) The Modern Grey Pin-Stripe Twins Jersey

All, of course, will be worn WITH the Batgirl "Don't Blame Me" shirt.

???

Oh yeah,

T minus 122 hours, 7 minutes

Posted by: Me at March 30, 2005 01:53 PM

Powder blue, definitely. Where'd you get that, by the way?

Batling Chris has a vintage Neil Broten NorthStars jersey. He let me wear it once. It has powers - I thought I could fly.

Bah no calling in sick, just quit your job!
I can't wait!

Posted by: soccerfan at March 30, 2005 03:37 PM

Alas, HooliKat is too swamped at work to take time off, however I'll stop in on my way home from work.

I have this feeling lately that no matter what life throws at me, I really don't care because now is time to think about one thing and one thing only. . .

I asked for Monday afternoon off like a month ago. The Demis and I will be there, and I'll be wearing my autographed Santana/Nathan 04 shirt!

Posted by: TwinsGoddess at March 30, 2005 04:20 PM

Me--Batgirl has a powder blue one. 'Nuff said.

Posted by: TwinsGoddess at March 30, 2005 04:22 PM

I'd love to skip school and head over to the 'dog for a Chicago Dog, but it's the home stretch and these classes count! I'll be following along via some manner of java-scripted game tracker online.

Posted by: BW at March 30, 2005 04:51 PM

The three-hour drive to Seattle is tempting, but I don't think my wife's office would like it if she skipped work for a Twins game...

Posted by: Adam at March 31, 2005 12:32 AM

I lived in Columbus for a while, where the Clippers played (the Yankee AAA club). One year, on opening day, my then-wife and one of her co-workers went to the ballpark instead of work. The next morning, whose picture was on the front page of the Columbus Dispatch? Yup. Just like that Seinfeld episode. She no longer has that job (but, for what it's worth, that same co-worker is now her husband)!

That was a long time ago and I've gotten over it. Though I still kind of blame the Yankees.

Jim, when all else fails blame the Yankees, that's what I do.

Recession? Yankees
Small Pox? Yankees
Me stubbing my toe this morning? Yankees

See, it's fun and easy!

Posted by: HooliganKat at March 31, 2005 08:44 AM

I say all three, #1 for innings 1-3, #2 for innings 4-6 and #3 for innings 7-9!

Posted by: Paul at March 31, 2005 09:09 AM

Dearest HooliganKat,

I like the way you think! Do you ever switch it up and include the Bitch Sox as the cause for the world's problems? lol.

Posted by: Stacy at March 31, 2005 10:13 AM

We checked the schedule and found that the Twins will be back in the Pacific Northwest on my wife's birthday, so that works out better anyway... and a MUCH better chance of nice weather in Seattle in August than early April.

Question for the Batlings--have any of you ever been to the Marquette Hotel? That's where I'll be staying for the Sox series next weekend. Decent?

Thanks,
Ilk

Posted by: Ilk at March 31, 2005 12:27 PM

Stacy,

Oh sure for example I the other day I went to get lunch and I forgot my wallet and I said "Those darn Bitch Sox!" I also hold them personally responsible for George W. and I think they had something to do with the cost of gas going up, but I'm still gathering the necssary proof.

Love,
HooliganKat

p.s. I also think the Tigers and Indians collaborated on JFK's assasination, but again, I'm still gathering evidence.

Posted by: HooliganKat at March 31, 2005 01:07 PM

I should be there Monday, complete with sombrero. Ole!

Posted by: Skorch at March 31, 2005 04:26 PM

Dear Ilk,

The Marquette is a team Batgirl-approved hotel (Goober and I housed our wedding guests there). It's the nicest one in Mpls... aside from the Meridien and the Grand.

Happy travels,
Sooz

Posted by: Sooz at March 31, 2005 07:24 PM

The Marquette is one of the nicer stays in town and in a good location. You can walk to the Dome from there easily. Other downtown establishments are easily reached as well.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 1, 2005 01:40 AM

Dear HooliganKat;

"Me stubbing my toe this morning?"

I had absolutely nothing to do with stubbing your toe! I think it was the maffia or Fidel Castro.

HK,

not get all political, but the Tribe (and by implication, fans thereof) are far more culpable for the GWB fiasco.

Helpfully,
YF

Posted by: YankeeFan at April 1, 2005 08:27 AM

YF--Wouldn't it be the Rangers?

Sooz and Markie, thanks for the advice about the Marquette.

Don't blame me, I voted for Hawk Harrelson.

Ilk,

There is plenty of blame to go around. However, if I rememebr correctly, Ohio was the swing state this time around. Either way, the Yanks went blue if I recall... :)

Fair enough YankeeFan, all of my conspiracy theories are in research phase. . .I will get to the bottom of them all though.
