Batgirl Is There For You.

Seattle at Twins. Twins 7, Seattle 6.

Oh, readers, Batgirl was there tonight. Batgirl bore witness. She saw Carlos Silva allowing 11 hits but two runs (meaning either he pitches well in pressure situations or Seattle can't convert worth a damn). She saw J.C. Romero acting like he was throwing BP to Seattle, turning a tie game into a 4 run deficit for the Twins. She then saw Seattle's pen having some sort of cosmic breakdown, letting the Twins retie the game. She saw Luis Rivas extricate himself from the doghouse by hitting a dinger short of the cycle, including a two-out game-tying single in the 8th. And she saw Shannon Stewart acting more like a running back than a sensitive left fielder, barreling into, and then leaping over catcher Dan Wilson in the 11th to score the winning run.

Did you not see it? Were you watching American Idol instead? Had you nestled up, snug in your beds, cozied up with your kitties, unable to cope emotionally with another extra-inning game? Batgirl cannot blame you, she cannot, but she cannot bear the idea of you missing out on the excitement. So here, for those of you who did not set your TiVos and may have missed the late night excitement, is a reenactment of the final play:

In the bottom of the 11th, Shannon Stewart leads off with a walk. Guzie then executes a beautiful bunt to advance Stewie. With Stewart on second, Dougie comes up, and quickly falls into an 0-2 hole.

Dougie makes contact, launching a soft single to left center. Shannon takes off.

Randy Winn makes a perfect throw to home. There's going to be a play at the plate!

Catcher Dan Wilson shields the plate, but fumbles the ball…

Wilson scrambles for the ball and Stewie executes a karate leap over his body…

Dear Bat-Girl,

I am glad you were there for me. I wasn't. For me, these extra inning finishes, which take the game well past a 9:30 bedtime (sans kitties) are just too much to bear. I'm grateful for the LegoVision replay. Beats the hell out of Mark Rosen's recap.

I too was at the game. When Stewart was called safe I high-fived the guy sitting in front of me so hard my hand stung for 15 minutes and strained my elbow along with it, which is still a little sore.

A fine piece of Legovision, although the lighting seems a bit askew. Driving home from a SOCCER match last night -- the good guys won 2-1, although that doesn't matter because it's youth sports, both teams played well and there were enough postgame treats for the siblings of the players -- we were treated to one of those wonderful Gordo lines. (This is not meant to open a pro-Gordo, no-Gordo, Sonny Bono for President debate, rather it's reported just to make you laugh.) Gordo announced when Seattle went ahead 3-2 in the eight that "the tying run is coming across the plate to give Seattle the lead." You simply don't hear such gems from Vin Scully or Agent Mulder.

Dear Bat Girl,

Thanks for the reinactment
I was out at a karaoke bar last night and while I was trying to pay attention, this guy did the most amazing rendition of Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson, spot on, dancing and all and that's when the play happen and I don't think anyone in the whole bar saw it. Very sad!

So thanks!

I liked how utterly dejected Wilson looked after he tagged an already safe Stewart.

I know it was a tragedy, but the giant kitty attack really made me laugh.

Bat Girl,

Thanks for the reenactment of the game winning run. I don't have cable, and everyone knows that Legovision has the best replays in town. I'm actually hoping to see Legovision on the Jumbotron at the game tonight.

Hey, Maradona was right about that controversial World Cup goal he scored against England in 1986. There is a Hand of God!

BTW, nice cuticles. :)

Bat Girl,
What a fantastic play by play action sequence. I must admitt (and I am ashamed) that I was listening to the game on the radio and I went to bed at the end of the 10th. But I alway's know that my best game recap will be here with you. Are the warriors always the opposing team, and the twins the space men? Awesome site.

As always, the LegoVision is fabulous. I especially enjoyed the action-photos. Today's highlights have inspired a few questions, though.

First of all, the Mariners/warriors seem to be a few men short. They are certainly at a disadvantage as it is, with having only shields, spears and swords, while the Twins/spacemen have lasers and supplementary oxygen tanks. Asking the opponents to play a few men short seems to be an insurmountable task. Shall we take up a collection, so that you may augment your Lego collection, or will all the Spiderman 2 royalties cover it?

My second question is, are all Lego's of one race? All of them have...ummm...flesh that is the same color. I know we are supposed to be living in a color blind society, but having Lego's that are all white....er...yellow seems to be unfair to those who have skin that is less yellow. Perhaps I am casting a jaundiced eye on the situation, though. Should I refrain from buying Lego's until they show increased racial diversity? I know changing all of Lego-dom may be out of BatGirl's control, but I would value your opinion none-the-less.

hate to rain on an otherwise fine LegoVision parade, but Dougie M is a left-handed hitter.

Dear Mr. jamie,

Batgirl has only herself to blame.

Shamefacedly,
Batgirl

Posted by: Batgirl at May 12, 2004 12:25 PM

Dear Mr. Craig,

Legos have indeed gotten more diverse over the years, but Batgirl's Legos are from a time when all Lego-men were created yellow.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

p.s. As for the Twins/spacemen advantage, well, we need all the help we can get.

I wish FoxSportsNorth could be had on basic cable in the South.

Until then, it's Lego-vision for me.

Hi Batgirl --

I was there, too. In the fernt rowwww.

Most amazing image for me is the "perfect throw to home" in actual flight. A thing of beauty, Batgirl.

Umpires. Out calls are clear -- see the Wild Reenactment. But that safe call looks more like a dance move. Can we dislocate some shoulders maybe to get that level of verisimilitude Batgirl's audience demands? They're umpires, after all -- dislocating a shoulder or two, for their own benefit . . . I think we can justify it.

Biggie Robs:

As a Twins Fan in Exile here in North Carolina, I can sympathize with you. I'm afraid I have the added handicap of working a second shift job. Thankfully I have also harnessed the power of the Internet, so I have access to both the warm glow that is this blog and the CCO telecasts through baseball's internet mothership.

As far as this game went, Stewart was nice enough to cross home plate just as it was time for me to clock out and go home (and the LegoVision recap matched how it played in my mind perfectly...). Of course, I ended up leaving an hour late as I forgot Dougie's, well, eloquence.

Next time, it'll be the archives for the post-game wrap for me!
