B.O.D.

BD :Mother, says BabyDash. What is a Boyfriend?
BG: Well, says I. A Boyfriend is that special player that makes your heart go pitter pat. BabyDash, who is your Boyfriend?
BD: I do not know, says BabyDash. There are so many players to love. My heart fills at the thought of each and every one of them, from the biggest Canadian to the Littlest Punto, from the Chairmanist of Mauers to the Nathanest of Joes, my love spans the circumference of a Sidney Ponson and Dennys Sampler Reyes hug.
BG: That is a lot of love, says I. How about Johan Santana, says I. If Johan Santana were your boyfriend, surely you would kick Uncle Goober's ass.
BD: No, says BabyDash. Johan Santana is like the sun, the stars, the bright blessed day, the dark sacred night. Johan Santana belongs to all of us.
BG: Your wisdom astounds me, BabyDash, as well as your ability to quote Louis Armstrong songs.
BD: That's Lou-IS, mother.
BG: Yes, BabyDash, but, who is your Boyfriend?
BD: When I think of a Boyfriend, I think of someone like me, someone small and scrappy, someone who needs a little extra love, someone who was premature (ly sent down to Triple A), someone like Jason Bartlett. Yes, I think Jason Bartlett is a fine boyfriend. Further I have been speaking to Father, who chooses Little Nicky Punto this year, and with the BatBaby who is no longer a Baby and chooses to be known as the BatCub, and I have been speaking with Uncle Goober and he said his Boyfriend is the best Boyfriend in the whole world, and he said he is going to kick our asses again this year and he says if we're sad at night we can just snuggle our boyfriend's MVP awards, and then he said, Oh, right, your Boyfriend doesn't have an MVP award, and then he said, In your face!, and then further he said that his Boyfriend had two RBIs with a homer and also knocked the crap out of a guy, hockey style, and he said that should make Justin Morneau the Boyfriend of the Day. And Mother, I agree.
BG: Then so it shall be.

Goober/ Justin 1, BabyDash/Bart 0, Batgirl/ Chairman 0, BatCub/Torii 0, Jeb/LNP 0, Sooz/Cuddy 0, Readers/Field 0.

About 2 seconds after the good doctor hit the home run I called him for B.O.D! Go BabyDash, go!

Dash has good taste, as JBart is my BF as well! Nice pick, there buddy. We shall have cheer extra hard for him tomorrow since he hit a little slump tonight.

Way to go TWINS! That's the way to start the new season :-)

That's an excellent choice. My four-month old got to watch his first baseball today and seems to have chosen DJ Cuddles as his favorite. It might just be that he likes the word "cuddles" though.

Truly, BabyDash speaks with the wisdom of a much older soul.

Posted by: Katharriet at April 2, 2007 10:12 PM

Hunter hitting the homerun right after Morneau was a great moment. I remember last year tearing up a bit when Hunter hit #30. I felt bad for Torii, who had been having a rough year, was facing trade/free agent rumors...and then you've got the young guy getting all the love.

And then he goes out and gets #30 along with Morneau. So tonight to see him go out there and follow up Morneau's jack with his own just was extra special. Because I want to see the two of them together in the lineup for a long time.

Baby Dash has excellent taste in boyfriends!

Posted by: infield at April 2, 2007 10:18 PM

Yay for Justin! This is kinda off topic, but I'm just wondering. Did anyone at the game tonight think the videos they played the first time guys came up to bat make the guys look like anchormen? They turn and look at the camera and smile and in my head I'm going "and litte Nicky Punto with the weather." Maybe it's just me though...

Posted by: AnnaM at April 2, 2007 10:45 PM

Dear Ms. M,

All I know is I want to watch that weather report.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

>When I think of a Boyfriend, I think of someone like me, someone small and scrappy, someone who needs a little extra love...

I wonder if baby Dash has been introduced to Mr. Casilla... if he comes up, it'll be not just a battle for the middle infield, but for a young heart.

Bat girl.

You are my monetary hero. When the hard check at home took place, I made a bet that you would make reference to Moreneau/Hockey in your post. I rock. You rock. That I am pre-thinking blog posts during the opener is a whole nuther thing....

As good as it is to see a Twins win and the good doctor getting the BOD, can someone please explain to him that he does not quite have the speed of a Jason Bartlett or a Torii Hunter? Those two baserunning missteps were a bit painful to watch.

Posted by: TwinsinBoston at April 3, 2007 01:56 AM

BG,

isn't opening day fantastic?

May this year be as great as great can be for us all. Enjoy baseball and motherhood and blog when you can, we're not going anywhere :-)

I commend Jeb on his choice of BF. I also commend BabyDash, but Jeb really knows where it's at.

Posted by: FH at April 3, 2007 07:50 AM

"...two baserunning blunders..."

You're kidding, right? He didn't blunder into home, he was sent by his 3rd base coach, and did the best with the crappy hand the Ullger dealt him. And he was safe at second base (the replay confirmed), yet Ullger held Cuddyer at 3rd, robbing Justin of another RBI. Morneau was fine on the basepaths; fate (and poor coaching) conspired against him.

BG, this post represents everything I love about bat-girl.com. Wonderful writing, total creativity and a lovelovelove of the game. I moved to MN from Down South several years ago and was introduced to the joy that is the Twins two years ago. Last night was my second home opener, and I could barely contain myself. (In fact, I'm pretty sure I didn't.) And first thing this morning, I couldn't WAIT to check out bat-girl.com! THANK you for helping to further stoke the flames of my newfound love for our Boys of Summer!

Posted by: sparklegirl at April 3, 2007 08:29 AM

Well spoken, young Dash.
When it comes to boyfriends, one needs to follow one's heart. I so enjoyed all the 1987 games FSN showed this past week as I got to see my first boyfriend Frankie "zing went the strings of my"Viola and fell in love all over again. Thus said, even though he didn't have a fabulous game, Michael still did me proud.

Since we couldn't be there this year (picked spring training games to take the kids out of school for instead)I had to watch at home eating my hot dog, stale dome peanuts from last summer, cracker jacks and my beer out of a Hammond field glass. The win helped me feel better about being home.

YES! BabyDash! Jason Bartlett is a FINE FINE pick for a boyfriend, as he is mine as well. You have impecible taste, my tiny adorable friend.

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at April 3, 2007 08:55 AM

My boyfriend is a team boyfriend! *faints* Jeb, you have excellent taste.

Posted by: aurora at April 3, 2007 08:55 AM

My man crush/ BF is Garza. I will support him on his way back to the majors. However, I will be honest. I hope he doesn't make it back up this year, because that means everyone is doing their job!

Posted by: DTB at April 3, 2007 10:27 AM

If I have to break up with my boyfriend of 3 seasons and choose a new one because he isn't going to be getting much playtime this year (and really what kind of relationship is that?) does that mean I have to take down my Lew Ford got milk growth chart from the living room and stop rubbing my Lew Ford medallion for good luck? Would Morneau get jealous?

Posted by: Phil at April 3, 2007 11:41 AM

Dearest Baby Dash -

I see via the Twins website your boyfriend will be at the Minnetonka ProShop on 4/14 - if I remember to get up in time I'll drop by and let him know of his boyfriend status - I know he would be very honoured!

Hey big Canadian guy - just learn how to slide - I know your out at home wasn't your fault but that belly flop into 2nd - and yes you were safe - was quite comical from where I was sitting.
eh I love ya anyway =)

Much love
Wonder Woman

Baseball is back, and Batgirl is back in fine form to bring a little added sass to us all.

Thanks BG...I look forward to many more of those sweet conversations between mother & son.

A win on opening day and a fine post from BG and Dash. Priceless!!

Well, It's a tad hard to slide with a puck in your back pocket. ;) (Or maybe it's that stinky Bertuzzi jersey....)
