Help!

In the BatMail:

Dear Batgirl:

I am afraid that I have to break some tough news to you. I have dealt young Dash to the Yankee's front office in exchange for Carl Pavano and a blogger to be named later. I fully expect that your reaction to this will be highly emotional, but try to bear in mind that the youngster wll be developed within the Steinbrenner inner circle. This should comfort you.

Yours truly,

Eric
Yankee Agent Without Portfolio

What can Batgirl do? Are there any options? And is this a good trade? Batgirl knew the Yankees were thinking of a youth movement, but this is ridiculous.

I might be able to help out...

...but I am not sure I want to let such a highly touted prospect go.

There are obviously more sinister motives involved in this move, Batgirl. Rumor has it that the Evil Empire is conspiring to stockpile young talent in hopes of trading for Johan Santana next season. This could well be a harbinger of just how far King George is prepared to go to acquire the best pitcher in baseball. Also, while Carl may be easy on the eyes, he seems a bit large to cuddle in the rocking chair, and burping him is going to be a major effort, not to mention the diaper changes.

Batgirl,

I wouldn't get too upset. Dash for Pavano and a throw in blogger? Puhleez....as much as they love the Yankees, the comissioner's office will have no choice but to veto the trade because of it's one-sidedness. And even if Selig is too much of a coward to confront the Evil Empire, there is no way either Pavano or TBTBNL will ever pass their physicals. Pavano is so brittle that See's candy started calling the snack "Peanut Pavano". And a blogger passing a physical.... not likely. I've not seen one yet that I'd describe as a paragon of good health (present company excluded, of course).

So sit back and relax, it will all be over soon.

I'd get confirmation on this rumor before reacting. It doesn't make sense. Ryan's no idiot; he wouldn't trade the kid for an overpaid, ultra-fragile pretty boy like Pavano. My guess is what really happened is that Ryan asked for Wang (hopefully by yelling "FREE WANG!"); Cashman countered with Pavano; Ryan laughed hysterically before hanging up; and this guy had his ear at the keyhole of Cashman's door and misheard what happened.

Dear Batgirl

I get the feeling that we will get more out of Dash this season then we have gotten out of CP for the last 2 seasons.

Is Dashie Baseball left handed by any chance ?

I'm not sure yanks will go for this. Dash is a long term project, though I'm sure we can pencil him in for 300 wins/600 saves or 3000 hits/500 home runs/15 Gold Gloves somewhere down the line, and the Yankees always have to win now. And Pavano is going to be their horse this year, throwing 250 innings, winning 20 games plus 5 wins in the postseason and a world series MVP!!!!
The funny thing is that the chances of the former are probably higher than the second!!!!

I don't think TR will sign off on this one, so I wouldn't worry too much. Such a highly valued prospect for *snork* Carl Pavano? Madness, I tell you, madness.

Posted by: CarrieICL at March 12, 2007 12:12 PM

I was pretty sure Dash had a standing no-trade clause anyway... go back and check the fine print.

Posted by: sacky at March 12, 2007 12:30 PM

Don't worry, B.G. Doug will take very good care of him.

Posted by: TwinsGoddess at March 12, 2007 01:38 PM

I have to agree with Dan. Why would the Yankees invest long-term when they can try to buy Dash for a bajillion dollars once the Twins farm system has worked its magic on him? I think he's safe. . . for now.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at March 12, 2007 03:02 PM

I agree with sacky.. go find the fine print that says he can't be traded. And if that clause doesn't exist.. find a lawyer who will add it on the sly. :)

Tell Baby Dash to opt out of his contract after the season and sign with the Cubs.

Posted by: Flip at March 12, 2007 04:09 PM

Hm.
Pavano will spend more time lying on his back this year than Dash. He'll cry more.

Aha. SI.com confirms that Pohlen is holding out for a Baby to be Named Later. (So now you know what not to name Dash's younger sibling!)

I still fear poor Dash might be traded from the Yanks to either o' the Bitch Sox! :o Gwynn forbid.

Dash burps better than Pavano pitches.

(And inquiring minds wonder: Does Young Dash have a Boyfriend yet? 'cause I want to line up with him in the BoD contest this year. The kid's a winner.)

Dash PITCHES better than Pavano pitches

I wouldn't worry too much. Contracts entered into by minors aren't enforceable against the minor. Thus, young Dash can simply tell the Yankees what to do with their contract, and come back home. I'm sure TR will be keeping a close eye on him once he removes himself from the black hole that is the Yankee organization.

Don't look at me, I didn't do it...

Posted by: Eric at March 12, 2007 08:16 PM

Doesnt sound like such a bad deal to me. Get the big signing bonus... develop some skills... then come back over to the Twins in a trade or the Rule 5 draft, because we know the Yankees never keep their own young talent.

Posted by: JimCrikket at March 12, 2007 11:07 PM

Don't they have to have perennial consent on all trades of preemies? he is under 18, isn't he?

Posted by: twin-X at March 12, 2007 11:21 PM

"he is under 18, isn't he?"

inches?

If Reggie was the straw that stirred the drink, what will Dash be? The microwave that warms the bottle?

Tell the Yankees that if they don't hand over a certain BatBaby, Derek Jeter will get an unpleasant punch to the face.

"Tell the Yankees that if they don't hand over a certain BatBaby, Derek Jeter will get an unpleasant punch to the face."

Teehee. This made me laugh on two different levels. I first imagined a PLEASANT punch to the face. Then I imagined DJ getting punched and crying like a little biotch.
