... but THIS? At least the news in the post below is much, much, much better!
Posted by Ron Davis at January 4, 2007 01:22 PMYup, yup, yup - 'tis a sad day, indeed. Dougie a Yankee...who woulda thunk it? He was already a Met, so New York won't be a complete shock, but being a Yankee is another beast altogether. Here's hoping he hits .137...and leads the team in batting average.
Posted by: adidasman at January 4, 2007 01:54 PMI wonder if they added any language to the deal regarding "relinquishing historic game balls"?
Posted by: EW at January 4, 2007 02:08 PMOh...my...God. What's wrong with you, Dougie?? Where have all your morals gone? *sigh* Alas...yet another perfectly good ballplayer is lost to the Yankees.
Posted by: TwinsPrincess at January 4, 2007 02:12 PMAdidasman,
I would LOVE IT if Doug led the Yankees in batting average with .137.
Posted by: TwinsPrincess at January 4, 2007 02:14 PMOh, Doug. Why don't you go ahead and drive a knife right into my heart? It would be just as painful...
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at January 4, 2007 05:49 PMYou folks may have lost track of Dougie. He's no longer a "perfectly good ballplayer"; even his vaunted defensive skills have detiorated to league-average or so. I bet Yankee fans are more disappointed than you are. (Even the ones who won't have to spell his name professionally.)

Sidney Ponson is a Twin.
Dougie is a yankee.
The OC is being cancelled.
My life does not feel right.
Posted by: Stacy at January 4, 2007 07:14 PMI don't understand the objections... the Twins dumped Mint, and the guy needs to work. If he found one at a top franchise, good for him. It's better than playing in KC. I got no hard feelings.

Posted by: Donnalove at January 4, 2007 09:07 PMOh Lord. What is happening to the world? Between Sidney Ponson and Doug, the bizarre-o-tron is going haywire.

"Morneau and Krista Martin, a Minnesota girl he met in August, are spending part of the offseason on the second floor, and they're still unpacking."
Posted by: Rune at January 5, 2007 04:07 AMFor the record, I'd like to apologize to all Minnesotans for Sidney Ponson. I shower and I shower, I even use perfume, but I think I'm emitting some sort of pheromone that's allowing Sir Sid to track me.
Posted by: CarrieICL at January 5, 2007 09:02 AMThanks for the url, Rune -- that's an excellent story. :)
Posted by: wc at January 5, 2007 09:11 AM*hangs head* there will definitely be a gap in my following of my first baseball love - I just don't have the strength to watch him put himself through that...
But, people we love often do things we can't understand. I can only hope for the best and a speedy recovery!
Come towards the light Dougie!!!!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at January 5, 2007 09:17 AMDougie, Koskie, Guzman, Mays, Milton, The Hawk, Eddie, Jacque...
All key players to our 2001 franchise turnaround, all lackluster (or worse) elsewhere.
A real shame. Some of them were very standup guys. As for MonkeyWitch, I wish him the best. Aside from throwing a fit when Justin came along, he seemed a real solid guy.
Posted by: JohnWayne at January 5, 2007 10:03 AMAnd Randy Johnson is going back to Arizona.
Can anybody else help me make sense of that? At all?
Posted by: Torhu at January 5, 2007 10:45 AMHe's going to catch heck in Boston.
Posted by: nailbiter at January 5, 2007 02:32 PMDoug probably will catch heck in Boston, but he shouldn't.
The glovework of Mient and Orlando Cabrera was a very major reason for the curse reverse and should have provided the Red Sox and their followers with a clue that mixing in a little defense can do wonders to complement the good-hit/no field types in the middle of their line-up.
Posted by: Franorama at January 5, 2007 02:49 PMWhy's everyone freaking out about Ponson? It's a minor league deal. If the man somehow righted his bloated ship the Twins got a steal. If not they lose nothing.
Posted by: ramon at January 5, 2007 10:23 PMDearest Donnalove,
There, there...I know.
But he does have to put little Steele through college someday, and since he didn't get to sell the ball as he planned...
Love,
bubblemint
Posted by: bubblemint at January 6, 2007 12:36 AMI guess I don't see the problem with this. Doug got a good job. I'm happy for him. He deserves it. And he's just not good enough to help the Yankees all that much. So it's all good.
Looking at our band of misfits from 2002, it's astonishing that they went as far as they did. They were above league average at one position, yet the sum was much better than the parts.
Posted by: cmathewson at January 6, 2007 12:52 PMall-
this may be old news to some, but the "taste of the Baseball Hall of Fame" exhibit at the MN History Museum in St. Paul is terrific. A little sip of baseball while we wait for catchers and pitchers to report and of course Twins Fest (I never like that as much as I think I will, but I always go).
Dougie, well, yes he has to work--he's a baseball player after all. I'm ok with him in those dreadful pinstripes.
Cheers,
kal

Uh, I hate to point this out but they made a mistake, it should be "Morneau and HooliganKat. . ."
I'm hoping Mientkiewicz gets cheered in Boston when he plays against the Red Sox, and I think there's even a chance it'll happen. No matter what he did since then, he /was/ on the team that brought them their first world championship in almost a century. (Though, as I'm well aware, not nearly as close to a century as it's been for /my/ favorite team....)
I just can't see hating a player (as a Red Sox fan, Twins fan, Cubs fan, or anything else) just for joining the wrong team. Using him as an excuse to poke fun at the Yankees though, and to launch several series of salvos of sass at them ... okay, that I can see.
Dearest Kat -
I knew there was something wrong with that article!
Thank you for clearing that up!
How's the new place??? =)
Much Love
Wonder Woman
I'm sure that Mr Meintkievicz won't actually play a whole lot for the Yanks. I have a feeling he will be the leftie and Andy Philips will be the righty.
I think I would have rather had Bernie stay then sign this guy.
p.e.m.

Unfortunately, this is Boston/New York we're talking about. Remember, there are Twins fans who booed AJ when he first joined with the Sox...even though he was TRADED away from our team.
What will most likely happen is a few people will boo, and then the rest will start up as well.

Oh good, I thought I would actually have a connection to Krista, that is if she went to a small high school in south central Minnesota. She'd be about the "right" age and such. But since it's actually HooliganKat, I feel better for not practicing my Espanol skills more with her.

Posted by: Becky at January 9, 2007 08:10 PMSi, senorita. Mi muy pequeno hablo espanol. I once knew how to order a big mac extra value meal with a sprite when I went on spring break. That was my highlight. That and knowing that El Presidente es caliente y muy guapo. At least that's what every one on here says when that firetruck rears its head.

I'm sorry, would this "lackluster" fellow be the same "Jacque" who hit .285 with 27 HR and 81 RBI last year?
Just checking.
