Happy Thanksgiving

Batgirl will be offline until after the holiday, so she'll take this opportunity now to wish you a happy Tofurky Day. Batgirl would like to give thanks for the BatFamily and BabyBoof and the BatKitties Three, for all the wonderful Batlings, and for Johan Santana, who gives us all a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Ah yes, happy thanksgiving to one and all!! Let us give thanks for our wonderful '06 division winning Twins, our hot catcher (my bf), and our smoking hot, 2-time Cy Young winner, and of course, all the pirahnas!

So much to be thankful for in Twins Territory! Happy Holidays all!

Posted by: L.H. girl at November 19, 2006 11:07 AM

Yes! I would also like to wish BatGirl, all of the batlings, and all of our beloved Twins a happy thanksgiving. I know that I'm extremely thankful for a great Twins season, and I'm also thankful for a bright future!

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at November 19, 2006 11:11 AM

No offence to the vegen, vegetarian and otherwise meat challenged Batlings out there .... but Tofurky? That ain't right.

Thankful for many things as always this year. The wonderful run by the squad and commentary by Batgirl are certainly on that list.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Posted by: Moe at November 19, 2006 11:11 AM

Gotta agree, Moe, I don't think tofurkey would have gone over nearly so well at the original bash.

How about Happy Stuffing Day?

Thanks Batgirl. Nearly two months after the last Joe Mauer ground out, and you're still at the top of my Internet reading list.

Posted by: nailbiter at November 19, 2006 11:20 AM

I've actually eating Tofurky before. As a vegetarian, I thought I would like it. Not so. But the wild rice stuffing in it was good at least.

I am thankful that I only have three days of school this week, and that I then get to spend time with my fam! and for baseball, of course!

Posted by: Hannah! at November 19, 2006 02:55 PM

Hannah,

First of all, I love your name (it's mine, too). YES! I have only three days of school this week as well! Thanksgiving is a VERY fun holiday for me. I love the food. Not the football, though.

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at November 19, 2006 03:39 PM

By this time on Tuesday I'll be halfway home to Minnesota to spend Thanksgiving in Stillwater. I can't wait! Mmmm. food. There's so much to be thankful for this year... but that's for my blog, not BG's. :)

Happy Thanksgiving, Batgirl and fellow Batlings!

Posted by: Shelley at November 19, 2006 06:04 PM

Ya, i think i gotta agree with moe, I too am a vegitarian, but Tofurky really sounds nasty. bluch. Whatever. Happy Turkey Day anyway, (even if it's not really turkey!)

uggg...Tofurkey, I'm sorry to say, is absolutely gross. And yes...I have actually had some (I went to a vegetarian/vegan thanksgiving at the U of M)

Posted by: Josh at November 19, 2006 08:57 PM

please check out the "dugout" link Eric posted above. it is hilarious. you can click my name for it.

Happy Stuffing Day indeed (we can all agree on this it seems ;-) and remember to keep thanking your twins by voting.

Happy (pseudo-)Turkeyday, BG.

I must wonder, however... does pseudo-turkey have the same sleep-inducing effect as the original?

Posted by: neutrino boi at November 19, 2006 11:40 PM

be thankful for thanksgiving, without you'd be like us, we've got Christmas Decorations up in the shops already.

And I'm so glad I'm not a vegitarian

D

Posted by: dan in london at November 20, 2006 04:58 AM

Oh, Dan, we already have Christmas stuff up in stores, it goes up the minute Halloween is over. *sigh* I'm such a grinch before Thanksgiving. Afterwards, I'm all for it.

Happy Thanksgiving, Team Batgirl and all you American-type Batlings! Hope your holiday is a great one.

Posted by: FH at November 20, 2006 08:29 AM

FYI -

the word is 'vegetarian'...

Don't let anyone tell you spelling doesn't matter.

Posted by: heraldguy at November 20, 2006 08:52 AM

Happy Thanksgiving, Batgirl!

*thankful for all the good things in her life, including family and friends and baseball*

Posted by: JustBeth at November 20, 2006 09:48 AM

I am thankful for the Twins, for Batgirl, and for Johan, as are these guys -- "In the beginning Johan Santana created the heavens and the earth..."

Tofurkey = faux turkey. What's next, a tofurducken? That would be a tofu turkey stuffed with a tofu duck stuffed with a tofu chicken. But something tells me even John Madden wouldn't eat a tofurducken.

Posted by: twayn at November 20, 2006 10:06 AM

Right now, slightly behind all the Big Things (faith, family, friends) and the Just A Bit Smaller Things (the Twins, the Beatles, Monty Python), I'm thankful for the fact that we re-signed NBP for a paltry $2 million for two years. Why am I thankful for that particular thing at this moment? The Cubs just re-signed our old pal Henry Blanco at $5.75 million for the same two years. Ouch.

Posted by: adidasman at November 20, 2006 11:46 AM

Have a happy Thanksgiving! We're going to miss your immediate reaction to the Doctor's MVP award tomorrow. I certainly hope it works out that way, although I'm prepared that, even if Morneau wins, ESPN will just talk about Jeter anyway.

Posted by: Dave at November 20, 2006 02:38 PM

Quel suprise...

Ryan Howard named NL MVP

Posted by: heraldguy at November 20, 2006 04:09 PM

herald guy,

the moment I pressed post I thought, that's not right. spelling does matter, more so because I can't do it :-)

have a great thanksgiving

Posted by: Dan in London at November 20, 2006 05:43 PM

I've always been tempted to bring some Tofurky to my family's annual Festival of Carnivorous Gluttony (Thanksgiving), but I just eat the potatoes and vegetables instead. Easier (and cheaper) that way. Tofurky is like 30 bucks, and it's not like anyone would join me.

Whaddya gonna do, right?

Posted by: LaurieNY at November 20, 2006 06:04 PM

Dave,

Unfortunately, you're right. They'd talk about him even if he lost. But I am eagerly awaiting the moment when Doctor Morneau receives his "medicial degree" (which allows him to engage in the practice of healing the minds and hearts of Twins fans everywhere with a swing of his lovely Canadian boomstick).

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at November 20, 2006 07:25 PM

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at November 20, 2006 08:04 PM

It would be the first time Derek Jeter (yes, THE Derek Jeter) was voted SMVP (second-most valuable player). Surely that would bear mentioning.

Posted by: ump47 at November 20, 2006 11:41 PM

Dear Batgirl

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. I was looking forward to your post about Jeter's MVP tomorrow but I can wait until after the holiday.

Happy Turkey/Tofu Day Everyone !

Posted by: Piranhtachew at November 21, 2006 03:43 AM

A very Happy Turkey/Tofurkey Day to Batgirl and all the Batlings. You all have brought a smile to my face and laughter to my humble home this year--for that I am VERY thankful!

Posted by: Jetchick at November 21, 2006 06:45 AM

Very nice, brianS. Very nice.

I, for one, have never tried Tofurkey, so I can't bash or praise it. However, that won't stop me from giggling at modified Fiddler quotes.

Posted by: FH at November 21, 2006 10:13 AM

Rumor has it that there will be Co-AL MVPs this year, and it will involve a local guy and an extremely undeserving player who may or may not be getting a lifetime achievement award.

Posted by: Ben at November 21, 2006 12:32 PM

HeraldGuy... Since spelling matters - and I agree with you wholeheartedly - it's "Quelle surprise", what with surprise being a feminine French word and all.
Happy Thanksgiving and a merry Hot Stove off-season to all!

Posted by: Tim at November 21, 2006 12:43 PM

A very heartfelt congratulations to our own Doctor on being named MVP.

Sorry Mike, the results are in. The Doctor is in!! Nice job Justin. It was well deserved.

Posted by: jeff at November 21, 2006 01:08 PM

I'm so happy I could almost cry!!

I'm so very happy for the good Doctor, it's well deserved!!

Posted by: HooliganKat at November 21, 2006 01:08 PM

Cy Young, Batting Champ, and MVP. It doesn't get much better than that!!

Viva Twins! Here's to an equally awesome 2007!

Posted by: FH at November 21, 2006 01:16 PM

Tim -

Thanks. French spelling was never my forte.

And a heart-felt "beauty, eh" for Justin Morneau...

Posted by: heraldguy at November 21, 2006 01:28 PM

Call the doctor... he's got the cure!

Posted by: Mark in Minneapolis at November 21, 2006 01:28 PM

Oh, Canada! This is the icing on the cake, the maraschino cherry on top of the sundae, the vegan gravy on the tofurkey. Well, maybe not the last one, but...
Congratulations to the good Doctor, the One True 2006 AL MVP, on his much deserved recognition. Let's see, now, the 2006 season recap:

Minnesota Twins - AL Central Division Champions
Joe Mauer - AL Batting Champion
Johan Santana - AL Cy Young Award
Justin Morneau - AL Most Valuable Player
Santana, Mauer, Liriano - AL All-Stars

That will get you through a rough winter with high hopes for next year.

Posted by: twayn at November 21, 2006 01:28 PM

Yeah, that's all lovely, Twayn - it truly is. But it could have (and probably should have) been so much more...and it will be. 2007, bay-bee.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all, and God bless.

Posted by: adidasman at November 21, 2006 01:37 PM

THERE IS A GOD!!!!!

Well done, Justin!!!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at November 21, 2006 01:40 PM

I can't believe it. Honestly, I totally had no expectation for the Good Doctor to win it, but he did.

Our team: full of win.

Posted by: L. at November 21, 2006 01:41 PM

The AL MVP pays rent to the AL batting champ. Awesome.

Posted by: Laurel at November 21, 2006 01:45 PM

Hehehe, I love your observation, Laurel. Good call, that.

Posted by: FH at November 21, 2006 01:49 PM

Well, now I know what else to give thanks for on Thursday.

Posted by: LaurieNY at November 21, 2006 01:50 PM

O Canada
Our home and native land
True patriot love in all thy sons command

With glowing hearts we see thee rise
The True North strong and free

M V P!!

M V P!!

oooooowwwwwwwwoooo!!!

Way to go, boyfriend!!!!!

Posted by: wc at November 21, 2006 02:02 PM

Oh, and I love how Mauer edges out Jeter for the batting title, then the Doc edges him out for the MVP.

Posted by: Eric at November 21, 2006 02:07 PM

Anybody notice something?

AL MVP: $385,000
NL MVP: $355,000

Will GM's learn anything about this? No.

Posted by: Torhu at November 21, 2006 02:14 PM

Oh ESPN, don't look so blue. There will still be plenty of chances to fellate Jeter.

/Yay, Justin! Woo Hoo!

Posted by: Nelson at November 21, 2006 02:18 PM

Twin-X, sure, I know one:

http://bronxbanter.baseballtoaster.com

I don't think Morneau was in the top ten, myself. I would have voted for Mauer if I had a vote. It's just disheartening how absurd the MVP voting is -- one writer had Jeter sixth.

On the other hand, Jeter got the Gold Glove, which is equally ridiculous. Go figure.

Posted by: Slider Away at November 21, 2006 02:22 PM

The official Yankees site has a fan forum where most people are actually being pretty decent about it. I'm surprised. Lots of people ripping thw hioners new ones and being complimentary to the good Doc. Respecting his win. It's amazing ;)

Posted by: FH at November 21, 2006 02:28 PM

I forgot to mention: five of the ballots didn't include Mauer at all.

Posted by: Slider Away at November 21, 2006 02:32 PM

I meant to say "the whiners" in my previous post.

From one Yankee fan (okie funokie):

"Justin Morneau was very much deserving of the MVP award.
Jeter and Morneau BOTH were and Morneau ended up winning it.

Does that mean everyone here has to start crying like a Sox fan, bltchin' and moanin' about how Jeter was robbed as if the other guy had put up miserable numbers?

Have some of that CLASS you always brag about. This is the time to show it.

YES, I would have loved to see Jeter win, STILL, Justin Morneau is a great player and he had a great year and every baseball fan should ackwnowledge that and recognize the guy for the kind of season he had.

Congratulations, Justin Morneau on a well earned award."

See, now that's just nice.
