I guess Nutty does not come in a one size fits all.

Baseball America to name Santana player of the year

Posted by: heraldguy at October 19, 2006 08:30 PMI was just going to email you about this.
Posted by: Bill at October 19, 2006 09:08 PMWow. I love the tagline "Protect the family jewels."
Posted by: Rach at October 19, 2006 09:27 PMThis just in: Carlos Beltran feels bad.
Posted by: Kurtis at October 19, 2006 10:45 PMI like that they don’t call their small size "small," I guess no one wants to order a "small" family jewel protector. I think this is funny, as I am not a man so I don't have to worry about these silly things. ;-)
Posted by: Twin-X at October 19, 2006 10:58 PMI'm not trying to Brag here but I estimate I'm probably at least a "THE HOG".
Posted by: Paul at October 20, 2006 12:22 AMwhen I played cricket at school we were given standard issue cups that might just have passed muster as a soap dish. given that getting hit there would have driven the edge of the cup into the testicles it probably would have been better not to wear anything at all.
I never got hit though, never lasted long enough
I can't believe we're even talking about it

Posted by: dan in london at October 20, 2006 04:14 AMFrom the St. Louis Gazzette:
"St. Louis -- October 20, 2006
The results from the Cardinal players' Most Valuable Player award have just been announced, and the outcome brings with it no surprise.
As expected, the Cardinals have unanimously voted Roger Clemens as their Most Valuable Player for the Year 2006.
'We ended up holding the Astros off by a couple of games,' said Tony La Russa, shortly after the final out against the New York Mets was recorded, 'but I shudder to think how many more games the Astros could have won if Clemens had decided to pitch those first two months.'
To a man, the Cardinals expressed similar notions, except for David Eckstein, who was focused on more important things. 'Even with the losers' share of World Series money, I can finally afford to get acne cream and take Gina to the prom,' Eckstein said, giddy with anticipation, 'I mean, the World Series will be fun, but everyone knows that if you get Gina in a limo you're virutally a lock to lose your virginity, and that would be awesome!'
Mets manager Willie Randolph was seen in a corner of the Mets' locker room, muttering incoherecnies like 'shouldn't have been there...Clemens screwed me again..."
The only downer for the Cards was the news that Clemens was considering moving his annual post-retirement comeback to the middle of April, which would allow him to pitch more games for the Astros in 2007. 'Well, by then, hopefully he will have been busted for steroids, and we wont have to worry about it,' said So Taguchi, through his interpreter, 'although I refuse to worry about it now. I choose to revel in our accomplishment and give thanks to the man who made it all possible, Roger Clemens.'"
Poor Scott. There are some things he'll never live down.

PS - YAY St.Louis!!!!!
I'm right there with you Redbird!!
Twin-X, funny, your comment flashed me back to something I haven't thought of in a couple of decades.
When I was thirteen I had to get my first cup, for baseball, and I went into a sporting goods store and, trying not to look embarrassed, asked the guy. There was nobody else in the store. He asked me my waste size, and then gave me a "small". He looked me straight in the eye and said, "They go by waste size."
What an awesome game last night! Carlos Beltran must have fantasized about that situation for twenty years. I mean, we all have, haven't we? And then he strikes out looking.
The Series is likely to be an anticlimax...
Hey, and what a catch by Chavez huh? Reminds me of Hunter, robbing Bonds.
Posted by: Twin-X at October 20, 2006 10:30 AMTerrific game. I heard The Catch on ESPN radio (first play I heard when I turned it on). I couldn't believe those idots didn't even bring up Kirby's Game 6 catch when they were trying to list those that compared. I mean, that was in the WS, not some stupid playoff series, and Kirby levitated to bring that ball down.
Posted by: twinsaholic at October 20, 2006 10:43 AMChavez' catch was absolutely incredible.
Had the Mets won the game, the catch would have gone down as one of the great plays in postseason history, I think. Instead, it's just a footnote.
I wasn't listening to ESPN radio -- which particular idiots were calling the game? It's hard to believe they were worse than the Fox guys (McCarver and Buck), who were their usual awful selves.
In my dreams, David Pinto (Baseball Musings) is calling the World Series, with Batgirl doing color. Now seriously, wouldn't that be about ten thousand Baseball Goodness points better than anything we're actually likely to get? ...sigh...

Supernatural: Santana Proves Unittable

Posted by: heraldguy at October 20, 2006 10:52 AMI wonder if Nutty fancies himself an "El Jefe"?
Posted by: Beth at October 20, 2006 11:40 AMHeraldguy, thanks for the link. LaVelle did a really nice job on his article for Baseball America. I especially liked this little bit:
"When reporters noticed a smiley face and balloons drawn under the bill of Santana's cap this year, he replied: "That's what it's all about, happiness and balloons.""
Happiness and balloons, indeed. Santana is now officially my second favorite pitcher of all time, surpassed only by Pack Robert Gibson.
Start spreading the news
They did not get their way
So they won’t be a part of it
New York, New York
Those big city blues
Are going to stay
They simply blew their chance at it
New York, New York
We’re going to wake up in the city that builds the cars
Then move a little southwest, under the arch
Those Midwestern teams
Are going to play
I can’t wait for the start of it
Outside New York
Tigers and Cards are there
There’s cheering everywhere
Except for you
New York, New York
I can't believe it's only been 2 weeks since they were eliminated. I miss the Twins!!
Posted by: WC at October 20, 2006 12:41 PMOn ESPN.com - Rob Neyer lists - I assume his - top 50 playoff performances - Kirby and Jack are in the top 10 - that was a nice surprise=)
Not a surprise - everyone is picking the Tigers to win - I'll stay with the Cards =)
Good weekend all =)
Much Love
Wonder Woman
WC,
I miss the Twins, too! It's a good thing that they save the MVP awards for November. We could still get a little Twins coverage with that (assuming that JustIncredible wins AL MVP). Anyway, I am already excited for 2007. It looks like it's going to be a good season.
Empathetically,
TwinsPrincess
If Nutty isn't getting some residuals from this, he should sue for unlawful use of his name.
Posted by: Jeff A at October 20, 2006 01:36 PMIs that...no...it's not real...oh. My God.
Posted by: Erin at October 20, 2006 04:50 PMBuck is on Late night (NBC) tonight. Should be fun ;-)
Posted by: Twin-X at October 21, 2006 12:11 AMOk, I know Buck is annoying at times but if he actually wares Conan’s tie tomorrow I will be a fan.
Posted by: Twin-X at October 21, 2006 12:21 AMHe did, he did!
Posted by: Twin-X at October 21, 2006 10:16 PMWow, I can't believe that guy didn't even flinch. In most cases, he would've been on his knees begging for a quick death. *still chuckling*
oh, and...
Go Tigers.
