Light Blogging/Baby Boof Update

Right now, all the broadcasters and research assistants at Fox and ESPN are up late studying the line-up vards and trying to actually learn something about the two teams playing in the ALCS. ("Hey, did you know there was a Carlos Guillen?") Except, of course, for Joe Buck, who is sitting in a corner holding his framed photograph of Derek Jeter and whispering, "Why? Why?"

Meanwhile, BabyBoof is a Boof (not a Boofina!) The ultrasound did not show which hand he favored, nor his preferred fielding position. So much for modern medicine.

Batgirl will be out of town and away from her computer this week. Team Batgirl and friends may pop in. Please enjoy the ALCS.

BatNote: The BatStore is temporarily down, but shall be up again soon.

Yay!! So Boof it is!! Of course BG would produce a potential Twin... and future Hottest Chick. (It's safe to speak its name now, isn't it?)

Posted by: LaurieNY at October 8, 2006 10:14 PM

well it does seem to add some balance to the next generation of the Batfamily I guess!! Congrats on the news!!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at October 8, 2006 10:16 PM

Congrats! :)

Posted by: Piranhtachew at October 8, 2006 10:51 PM

I didn't know you could tell determine the gender this early. Plenty of time to decide on a name. Future Twin... definitely. Congrats!

Posted by: Shelley at October 8, 2006 10:55 PM

I guess this means that Johan Boof is a possibality or maybe Joe Patrick?

Posted by: Paul at October 8, 2006 11:20 PM

No preferred fielding position... no preferred hand... could it be?

Congratulations! It's a switch-hitting utility-man. At first, one might think this would reduce his chance of becoming a Twins draftee, but the good news is that Punto/Rodriguez/Tiffee should be collecting their pensions by then and spots will have opened up on the roster.

Posted by: neutrino boi at October 8, 2006 11:21 PM

Congrats on the forthcoming BatBaby :) and here's a little song I made up about Little Nicky Punto (I'm sure you'll recognize the original):

Little Nicky Punto
walking through the forest
picking up the Bitch Sox
and bopping them on the head

Posted by: Becky at October 8, 2006 11:28 PM

I like neutrino boi's idea. Congrats, BG and Jeb!

Posted by: FH at October 9, 2006 08:30 AM

Congrats BG and Jeb (and BatGrandparents)! Boys are nice--much easier to shop for, you just go to a sports store and buy 8 Twins t-shirts and then 3 pairs of jeans. Oh, and a Twins jacket and hat (unless you were lucky enough to go to the game on beanie night, and then you already have a hat). Having a bit of a post season let-down, so thinking of the future team is good. Don't let him through the curve too early.

Posted by: Sandee at October 9, 2006 08:37 AM

THROW--not through. I do know how to spell that word at least.

Posted by: Sandee at October 9, 2006 08:40 AM

Congrats, BG. I think maybe before you go to bed at night you should sit up and tell the BatBaby-to-be bedtime stories of the '91 World Series. I think that would be very good for him (heck, that's good for everyone.)

And while we're at it, can anyone tell me why, during Game 1 and Game 2, we did not have any highlights from that series on the Jumbotron? To not access all that great karma is such a tragedy.

We'll see if anyone knows anything about the Tigers or the A's by tomorrow. Was Anthony John on last night? I didn't see him, not that I'm sad about it.

Posted by: Carmen at October 9, 2006 08:58 AM

congrats, on the newly "boofed" batbaby!

Posted by: tmbg at October 9, 2006 09:02 AM

("Hey, did you know there was a Carlos Guillen?")

That one cracked me up. Congrats on the news. And remember to leave a bat in the crib, it's never to early to learn how to lay down a drag bunt.

("Hey, did you know there was a Carlos Guillen?")

Ahh, it does my heart so good to see my favoritest baseball player get a mention by Batgirl ... it's almost better than watching him spray champagne on fans after batting .571 against the Yankees and helping to sit those bitches down. :-)

Congrats on the boy-baby! Makes the chances of making him in to a left-handed pitcher just that much better.

Posted by: jenninseattle at October 9, 2006 10:35 AM

While I originally endorsed naming him Boof, I think it would be really appropo to name him Brad.

Posted by: Erin at October 9, 2006 11:12 AM

How about a compromise. Just call him Broof Bonske.

You heard it here first.

Posted by: Mr.s Blyleven at October 9, 2006 11:25 AM

and if you don't believe that people really are crazy enough to name babies after goofy sports related people/things, click my name.

BG, you might get a really good laugh out of that one.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at October 9, 2006 11:44 AM

Awwwwwwwwwwww...Boof.

Even out of context, it is adorable.

Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at October 9, 2006 11:59 AM

It's a bat-baby-boy.
Or a bat-boy-baby.

Either way...congrats again!!!

Posted by: bubblemint at October 9, 2006 12:17 PM

I think there's a folksy way of determining a fielding position that involves drawing a baseball infeld on the pregnant mother's stomach and suspending an egg from a string over the diagram. The egg will naturally sway toward one of the positions.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if that indicates the baby's fielding position, or the chicken's, but it doesn't hurt to try.

STEVE HOLT always wanted a baby boof! Congrats!

Posted by: STEVE HOLT! at October 9, 2006 01:36 PM

Congratulations Bat-Mom and Dad. I like,
Boof(First name), Bradke (Middle name) ____(Bat last name)
Or,
Brad, Boof, (Bat last name)

Posted by: Twin-X at October 9, 2006 02:33 PM

Becky,

I love your LNP song. It's great.

BG,

Congrats on the boy! You should definitely take advantage of this fact and force him to play baseball at the youngest age possible.

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at October 9, 2006 04:02 PM

BG, your little Boofster must have one thing before arriving on this Earth - a copy of "No!" by They Might Be Giants. 'Tis the best kiddie album ever (and it still sounds good after 1,237 listens, amazingly enough...). Mumsie and Dadsie will enjoy it, too.

And Cameron adores his "Boof" t-shirt; he's the envy of all the kids in the neighborhood here in DC. "If only our team had a Boof! It's so not fair!!!", they wail incessantly. Jealousy, as we've seen from the comments of a few surly Bitch Sox fans over the last day or two, is never attractive - even when it's coming from an 18-month-old.

Posted by: adidasman at October 9, 2006 04:05 PM

Congrats BG!

When our little boof was born in July, we just asked him what position he wanted to play. He agreed on shortstop. Although, if he's tall and left-handed like his dad, maybe first base would be a better fit...

Now THAT's how to raise a child right!!! :-)

Posted by: LaurieNY at October 9, 2006 07:08 PM

Congratulations on the Baby Boof. Obviously, this is a time of great joy, and you need to focus on what's most important: getting in front of the ball, hitting the cutoff, the importance of advancing runners, and running out every ball. Cover all the bases as soon as you can.

Modern medicine has the tools, it just takes a trained eye. See a specialist. They can't tell what side of the plate he'll hit from, but can usually tell an SS from a 1B.....

...Actually, I've looked in my medical databases, and it turns out there is no such specialty!... yet! Nobel Prize, here comes Dr. TX Ken!

Posted by: TX Ken at October 9, 2006 09:58 PM

TwinsPrincess: thanks :)

imprvyz: aaaaaaaawwwwwww your little Boof is so cute *gushes* give him many big hugs and kisses for me.

Posted by: Becky at October 9, 2006 11:23 PM

So Becky, is your song the second verse of the one I posted 2-3 weeks ago?

Little Nicky Punto
Running down the baseline
Picking up a base hit (or triple if needed)
And sliding on his head

Posted by: Jean at October 10, 2006 02:25 AM

Congrats, BG and family!

Side note: Will there be a Boyfriend of the Year this year?

Posted by: wc at October 10, 2006 10:51 AM

Jean: aw, I didn't see that one :) that's cute as well

Posted by: Becky at October 10, 2006 01:43 PM

Cool! The Twins just picked up Sweetcheeks' option for next year. See you in April, Hon!

Hey everybody! Heads up! If you're still looking to get a Piranhas or Smell 'Em shirt, they're on sale at Cub for just $5 at the moment.

Posted by: Beth at October 10, 2006 02:17 PM

Yeah, Beth, I saw them and got all excited until I saw the big Cub Foods logo on the shirts.

Posted by: elaine at October 10, 2006 03:48 PM

Oops. I didn't notice that, which is odd since I picked them all up looking for a smaller size for my sons, but they were all size Large.

Posted by: Beth at October 10, 2006 09:34 PM

Is anyone else annoyed at how putridly the Athletics are playing against the Tigres? If you're gonna beat us, dadgum it, at least put up a fight in the ALCS! Gee whiz, we coulda had us a real ALCS if the A's hadn't played so well (and if we hadn't looked as tense and anxious as LNP at his senior prom, wearing a powder blue tux and standing at the back of the gym while his date flirted with larger, less spunky guys). I'm starting to think I may have to pull for the Mets - the thought of an AL Central team other than the Twins winning the WS two years running hurts me. Of course, that may just mean that it's our turn next time...
