Ahhh, it's been some time since Batgirl's gotten to do this. Propers to Phil Nevin for his first Twins homer, Pat Neshek for some very timely out-getting, and Macho Matt Garza for another solid start, but:

3 for 5 with a dinger and that awesome throwout to end the seventh? The Chairman serves the people, and how!

Posted by Batgirl at September 24, 2006 04:12 PMI concur Batgirl. Mr. Chairman set the tone for the game.
Posted by: gina at September 24, 2006 04:19 PMWho can argue with 3 for 5 and a two run homer? Way to keep that batting average up there, Chairman! Nice win, fellas!
Posted by: Newton at September 24, 2006 04:19 PMYay! Congrats, Joe! I'm excited, but I am also disappointed. I truly thought the Royals would win one of those games. It looks like they have no desire to even play spoiler right now--unless they are trying for some reason to spoil us by getting thrashed by the Tiges! What's up with that?!
Posted by: hrbekfan at September 24, 2006 04:20 PMSince the White flags start an hour before we do, we will know whether we clinch with a win tommorrow.
Posted by: billhedrick at September 24, 2006 04:36 PMRight, then we'll know if it's ok to put in Willie Eyre-in go bragh! if the game is at all close to being out of reach.
Posted by: WV and/or RK at September 24, 2006 04:44 PMGreat game, guys! Our boys are coming home! I'm so happy! It's been a long road trip. I'm very glad that we won this series. I'm also very glad that Phil Nevin got his first homerun in a Twins uniform. Mad props to LNP for getting his jersey dirty shortly after his first plate appearance. To anyone else who lives in Minnesota/gets FSN North, wasn't LNP adorable saying, "Let's get fired up!" on that commercial "advertising" our last home game versus the ChiSox?
Posted by: TwinsPrincess at September 24, 2006 05:09 PMWhile Mr. Gomez is on a 16 game hit streak, I'm on a 14 game hit streak, Beat the Streak style, thanks to Mr. Mauer. While I generally suck at that game, I only ever pick Twins players and they have provided me with two weeks of joy. Thanks guys.
Posted by: Erin at September 24, 2006 05:24 PMW00t Chairman!
And speaking of the other M&M boy, how surprised was I to open to the sports section of the NY Times to be greeted by this on the front page:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/24/sports/baseball/24twins.html?_r=1&ref=baseball&oref=slogin
I'll be wearing mine!
Posted by: Barty is my love pie at September 24, 2006 05:26 PMGordo had Mauer's throw to third as meaningless, as he had lost track of the amount of outs what with the rain and all. Btw, Nathan in Sept: 27 batters faced/ no hits/ no runs/3bb/12k-an 8 inning no-hitter with 12k, but not a bfod by any means.
Posted by: al at September 24, 2006 05:34 PMTheir is not a Boyfriend of the Month. Just BOD which makes it difficult for a closer to win it I think.
Posted by: Nora at September 24, 2006 05:39 PMOh, Yeah. They call that a flaw I think.
Posted by: al at September 24, 2006 05:43 PMI think losing their manager to serious health issues just totally took the wind out of the Royals' sails this weekend. Playing the spoiler was all well and good and it gave their efforts some meaning. But now they're thinking about Bell and how the games just aren't all that important in the grand scheme of things. I wasn't at all surprised that the Royals folded this weekend, just sorry that they had so many games left with the Tigers.
Posted by: JimCrikket at September 24, 2006 05:50 PMDear Mr. Al,
Actually, Gordo was mistaken. There was one out in the inning when Miggy struck out, and the throw to third was the third out of the inning, though Mauer would have earned it no matter what due to his early homer and 3 for 5 performance. Any confusion on the B.O.D., please read the bylaws under the "About" menu to the left. As for flaws in the B.O.D., well, it does reward daily performance, weighted toward four players, but if you feel the esteemed Mr. Nathan is being slighted you are free to start your own totally fake meaningless award.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
As long as they don't unfold...I'm cool
Posted by: jamar1700 at September 24, 2006 06:00 PMHooray for my Boyfriend!! I'm soooo happy! I get to be at the game this sat. against the Bitch Sox!
I have a worry/question though-Will Mauer be playin on Saturday and not Sunday or vice versa, or what? With him sometimes not playing afternoon games it's all messed up, and I would like to know if I'll be able to see my man in action.
Confused, L.H. girl
The NY Times article is great, but RONDELL IS NOT BRINGING SEXY BACK. EW.
Posted by: Donnalove at September 24, 2006 06:59 PMI was hoping for a Nevin BOD myself, but all things considered the call was right. The mention was perfect.
Posted by: Linda at September 24, 2006 07:10 PMB.G., I know Gordo was wrong, that was my point. There was one out and Tejada fans, Mauer throws out the guy at 3rd, and Gordo says the throw was mraningless. Then they went to break, leaving me to wonder where the mysterious 3rd out come from. By the time they came back, I figured it out-just Gordo being Manny.
Posted by: al at September 24, 2006 07:46 PMThat is a very snazzy shirt, Ms./Mr. love pie! Thanks for sharing.
Posted by: Erin at September 24, 2006 09:18 PMThe Chairman abides. With just a week of the season remaining, he is back on top to lead MLB in hitting. And unlike the MVP or Cy Young, there is no room for interpretation or intangibles in a batting championship. It is 100% earned. Swing away, Joe.
Posted by: twayn at September 24, 2006 09:54 PMThe Chairman does, indeed, abide. Seeing that opposite field homer in person was a thing of beauty indeed - he has to have at least a few man muscles to hit one that far the other way - and the throw to third had the guy out by about 47 feet, so Joe had himself quite a day. An interesting side note; the Washington Post today commented that, by the end of yesterday's rain-delayed game in Baltimore, there were mostly Twins fans left in the stands. The writer then said something to the effect of, "The Orioles are used to seeing Camden Yards overrun by Yankees or Red Sox fans - now it's Twins fans, too." It's good to know our presence is being felt.
