Welcome back, Jackal. Nice to see you again.
Readers/The Field 26; Goober/Doctor 24; Sooz/(Cuddy) 12; Batbaby/Torii 12; Batgirl/Chairman 7; Jeb/Lewwww 4.
Good call, BG. So nice to see Silva back again! Mega props to NBP and LNP! What a night by those two!
Posted by: Newton at September 16, 2006 08:58 PMSomeday Castillo will get the credit he deserves for what he has done for this team. Without him, Punto & Bartlett would be pedestrian. And while I'm thrilled to see Silva get the BOD, NBP was the catalyst tonight
Posted by: PJStP at September 16, 2006 09:00 PMThat's three "better than good" starts in a row for Carlos.
Thank goodness.
Posted by: BD at September 16, 2006 09:00 PMThis is the Silva that I know and love! Mwah! Excellente! I want to bake him a huge cake.
Posted by: gina at September 16, 2006 09:01 PMOh and Torii baby, I smell 30/100 :-)
Posted by: gina at September 16, 2006 09:04 PMThe Jackal and NBP battery was fab. I knew Carlos could pull it out when he needed it. 3 games up from the bitch socks feels amazing!
Posted by: SaraD at September 16, 2006 09:07 PMAaaaaaaaah. That's better.
Carlos, I am sorry for all those snarky things I said about you. You may not have Torii Hunter's charm, you may not have LNP superpowers, you may not be quite as scrappy and embraceable as Jason Bartlett, but you have stepped up and done your job, just when we really, really needed it. Well done.
Offense, way to chase C.C. 'Stupid Crooked Hat' Sabathia outta there. I still haven't forgotten that venom he dished out to the Twins last year.
Nice work, boys. And dear oh dear, that Bitch Sox bullpen is really a problem, is it not...?
Posted by: Carmen at September 16, 2006 09:08 PMTiffee and Perkins are going to be called up from Rochester.
Hooray for the Jackal! :)
Too bad for the Red Wings. :(
Posted by: Piranhtachew at September 16, 2006 09:08 PM*crosses fingers*
Is the Jackal back? Could it be? Another dependable starter down the stretch would be wicked cool.......
Posted by: TAR at September 16, 2006 09:14 PMChacarron.
Posted by: Rach at September 16, 2006 09:21 PMSilva pitched bueno!
Posted by: Twinsboy at September 16, 2006 09:31 PMPoor JEB, Carlos wins a BOD, but after Lew comes back.
Posted by: Donnalove at September 16, 2006 10:00 PMWow, who would have thunk it, we win tonight but lose yester day. That's the reason (or one of the reasons) why I love base ball. Much love to Silva, NBP, Castillo, and gang for pulling it out tonight.
Posted by: Twin-X at September 16, 2006 10:07 PMThe magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 12, with 14 games remaining. Start your countdowns now!
Posted by: TBird41 at September 16, 2006 10:35 PMi have nothing really to add, except that i never lost faith - i have known that i have loved Carlos since that 11-hit shut-out in 2004 against the Angels where Gardy fined him for over-exunerance after the game for tossing the game ball in the air. who else gets an 11-hit shut-out? sure - here;s the jackal - you can hit it , but it ain't goin' anywhere!
then last year, with the 9 BBs for the entire season - the frustration, but yet, the continued determination - the resiliance, the willingness to keep turning in your best performance at the ballpark.
i've been waiting for the the true jackal to show himself - and what better time than when we truly need him? Radke is down - his professor. Liriano - out. this kid, Bonser - well, Boof - he's a kid. we need another leg. if Carlos had come on at another point in the season ,then faded now - what would be gained? this is when we need him - & here he is. welcome back! may you be the inning-eating workhorse of yore! may your fastball ever sink - & never suck!
Posted by: dfb at September 16, 2006 10:50 PMOk, I know this post is coming about 5 days too late, but how many people besides me found it funny when Silva pitched agaisnt Blanton? Haha Silva is like the Venezualen Blanton. This is not a fat joke. I thought it was cute.
Posted by: gina at September 16, 2006 11:23 PMHA! It would be funny to have an 'All-Large Team.' Those two would definately be in the starting rotation.
Posted by: Carmen at September 16, 2006 11:32 PMCan Carlos pull a gun out of his thigh?
Posted by: Roscoe at September 16, 2006 11:58 PMOK OK - on a higher high The Sux are now three games back with what? 14 to play-- Lookin better and better all the time for the post season. Sure would be great to have the Kid healthy but just Wait Till Next Year.!!!!!
Posted by: TAR at September 17, 2006 12:12 AMStory on the Star Tribune's front page: "Silva gets his groove back"
Coincidence? I think not!!
Posted by: Roscoe at September 17, 2006 12:29 AMSo does that make Sabathia Kurtwood Smith's Clarence Boddicker? Or Tom Noonan's Tour de Force as Cain? I could go on like this all day. As long as that day involves Silva pitching like a man possessed.
Posted by: RK & WV at September 17, 2006 01:07 AMso, does anybody else find this odd..
from the Twins Notes regarded Bradke's progress...
~~"There was a little bit [of pain] in there, but it's not nearly as bad as it was," Radke said. "For the past three months, I couldn't even play catch. This is a step forward, hopefully."~~
three months you say? but clearly during some of that he was able to pitch...and quite well too
(maybe it was supposed to say weeks, but that's a big difference. i mean, a month is at least 3 times as big)
Posted by: iheartmntwins at September 17, 2006 01:14 AMYEA! The Jackal is back! I with Jeb, him and Lew are my favorites.
Posted by: Spamsmom at September 17, 2006 04:45 AMThree months sounds right; Bradke wasn't playing catch between starts during that time or doing anything with that arm; saving it all for pitching. (Sure, pitching is playing catch in a way, but I think he was referring specifically to throwing the ball around between starts).
Hooray for Carlos! If only Rick Anderson had had him loosen his grip sooner, but I'm so very glad things are working for Silva now.
Anyone else notice that Carlos' rejuvenation began with barfing in Tampa? Were I Gardy (which, fortunately for the Twins, I am not), I would keep some ipecac handy, just in case Jackal starts looking a bit *too* healthy.
Posted by: tgd at September 17, 2006 07:08 AMThis may be old news for most of the Batlings, but for those who aren't able to peruse the Star Tribune over their morning coffee, here's Reusse's column on Jason Bartlett:
http://www.startribune.com/508/story/680129.html
Posted by: JetChick at September 17, 2006 07:43 AMDoes anyone notice that Justin {in his mvp push}has hit 1 {one} h.r. in his last 24 games, and Super Joe has joined him by hitting .232 in his last 18 games? The team has hit about.047 with risp over the last week. The middle of the lineup-3,4,and 5 has been very unproductive for awhile despite Cuddy's 3 hits last night, and they threw Johan's win away the other day when LNP failed to catch the throw at 3rd. Of course, they win anyway and the Chisox are 5 out now with 14 left and will be out of the division race if they lose 2of 3 to Detroit. We want to win the division for the homefield advantage, so taking 9 of 11 from Clev, Bos., and Balt, would be huge, but can we do it with the lack of production from the 3 and 5 slots? If we tie Detroit for the division,we are the wild card as we lost the season's series to them, so we need 11 wins in the last 14 games. Come on you guys wake up and hit. Justin went 0 for 5 last night in the middle of a 14 hit attack. We can't have that from him.
Posted by: al at September 17, 2006 09:11 AMI meant 9 of 11 from Clev, Bos., Balt., and K.C.Al
Posted by: al at September 17, 2006 09:14 AMNice Jetchick, but notice the headline writer doesn't know how to spell "Bartlett?"
Posted by: billhedrick at September 17, 2006 09:45 AMDidn't the Vikings get food poisoning when going to Tampa Bay once?
Posted by: Piranhtachew at September 17, 2006 10:03 AMUm, excuse me, but you seem to have forgotten to cover the game where the Indians beat Santana. Any coverage on that game would be great, thanks.
Posted by: The Pronk at September 17, 2006 10:09 AMIf you notice, we don't talk much about the loses here.
Posted by: billhedrick at September 17, 2006 10:16 AMMoreover, It wasn't Santana's loss, it was Neshek's.
Chacarron, Carlos. It's good to have you back.
Posted by: NickDanger at September 17, 2006 10:23 AMAwww, Indians fans are excited about beating Santana. That's so cute.
Posted by: Andre at September 17, 2006 10:28 AMMr. Hedrick--
You're right! It IS spelled "Barlett!" What a hoot. I didn't notice the gaffe because I hadn't had my a.m. java--either that or my advanced age. One would think the Strib would use Spellcheck™.
Posted by: JetChick at September 17, 2006 10:30 AMI found this funny from fox sports
The lineup card posted by the Twins on their clubhouse wall had Indians rookie Kevin Kouzmanoff's named misspelled - badly. To them, he was Kauzamouff. ...
I found Santana's not so great outing on fri easier to take when both garland and wang also had not so great outings themselves. As long as they are keeping down with Santana, all is fine with me.
Posted by: gina at September 17, 2006 10:33 AMHey, the pronk, don't you think you would look better in a Twins uni?
Posted by: gina at September 17, 2006 10:35 AMWhile perusing the latest issue of Baseball America this morning, I noticed some Twins trivia presented in Jayson Stark's "Useless Information Dept." sidebar:
The last time a guy in Minnesota hit his 30th home run, Phil Niekro was still active, Francisco Liriano was 3 years old and Cal Ripken still had another 1200 consecutive games to grind through to catch Lou Gehrig. Justin Morneau snapped the streak.
Which three Twins had at least 30 homeruns in 1987?
Answer to follow in a few posts...
Posted by: JetChick at September 17, 2006 10:40 AMKent hrbek, gary gaetti... I can't remember the last guy.
Posted by: gina at September 17, 2006 10:54 AMHooray! I can wear my Silva jersey again without fear of physical abuse! Can't wait to wear it to the playoffs - this is fun!
Posted by: Jaguar at September 17, 2006 11:08 AMGina, I think the last one was Bombo Rivera...
Mr. Silva has had it going on these past few starts. Even got that ERA down under 6.00. Nice. Um, more, please.
Posted by: E-6 at September 17, 2006 11:11 AMYo The Pronk,
I'm sure your needs about Friday's game can be met elsewhere. In the meantime, if you want to see what you look like on the batting helmet of the White Earth White Guys, click on my name or go here:

Posted by: RonDavis at September 17, 2006 11:22 AMDear Pronk:
BG (or her hand-picked, worthy, substitute) used to write a summary of every game. However, I believe the Bat Kitties revolted, demanding more weekend attention. The rule now is that (nearly) every weekday game gets an Authentic Bat-Girl (or worthy substitute) Post, while a Weekend Round Up appers following a weekend series. Occassionally, the Bat Kitties demand a Friday or Saturday post due to their own devotion to the Beloved Twins, so these "rules" can be broken. Lack of a post following a No Decision by El Presidente does not mean anyone is shirking their duty or ignoring a painful subject.
Personally, I take the lack of a post on that night simply indicates BG's supreme confidence in our team. We can take a loss. They happen. Even Punto can make a mistake. He may even make another one.
BTW (to al, above)Lack of production from 3-4-5 in the order has still translated into a 7-3 record in the last 10 games while the Tigers are 4-6 and the B-Sox are 5-5. Looks like we are getting the job done. They aren't.
Posted by: Brooklynegg at September 17, 2006 11:25 AMYes, Gina! You got two-thirds:
In 1987, these three players had over 30 homeruns for the Twins:
Kent Hrbek (34), Gary Gaetti (31), and Tom Brunansky (32)
Ah, such fond memories...
Posted by: JetChick at September 17, 2006 11:36 AMDear Mr/Ms Egg,
Thank you. Yes. Batgirl does not do game recaps on weekends and has not for two seasons. She will post BODs when we win and will occasionally put up some links or articles.
Helpfully,
Batgirl
Jaguar - Where did you ever get a Silva jersey? i have looked & looked, but to no avail. i would give my eye-teeth to have one, assuming i knew what an eye-tooth is, & that the removal of which involves no pain or anasthesia.
& while we're at it, ny girlfreind would like a Rincon shirt. no kidding - & this has nothing to do with BG's post after his previous start. really, it doesn't...
Posted by: dfb at September 17, 2006 04:14 PMdfb, you can get customized jerseys on the twins website following the links under "shop". you can get current players or your own name and no eye teeth are involved. just $99.99 and the shipping is free!
Posted by: dorkyhouse at September 17, 2006 04:52 PMEyeteeth: Located near the front of the mouth, next to incisors, used primarily for holding and tearing food. They are the largest teeth in the mammalian mouth, and are used as weapons by predators such as wolves, big cats, and JACKALS.
And you thought this post wouldn't relate to Carlos Silva. I amaze myself.
