That was a nice win - oh the Tigers lost - maybe Tampa can come back and win - if not -it's ok -we're still 1.5 back =)

Good day all

Much Love

Nice to see Johan back in his own body again and not some pitcher for the Landed Gentry.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 03:11 PM

Frankly, right now, I don't care WHO the BOD is... it's just a relief to have one again.

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 31, 2006 03:11 PM

But...but... but.. Johan ist en fuego. He can't be allowed to put himself out!

Posted by: FH at August 31, 2006 03:12 PM

Hee hee: "Johan ist en fuego."

It's, like. . . Germish.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 03:13 PM

Germish, with a soupcon of French for fun.

Posted by: FH at August 31, 2006 03:15 PM

In the "en flambe" area, I mean. I guess it COULD be just Germish, but I intended the "en" to be French.

Aaaand... I'm done spamming.

Posted by: FH at August 31, 2006 03:17 PM

Well, I suppose Johan Santana is sort of a Germish kind of name, isn't it? So I guess it fits.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 03:18 PM

Bei mir bist du schon, please let me explain,
Bei mir bist du schon means you're grand.
Bei mir bist du schon, again I'll explain
It means you're the best pitcher in the land.

I could say "¡Fuego! ¡Fuego!", even say "Wunderbar!"
Each strikeout only helps me tell you how grand you are.

OK, I'm done spamming too.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 03:23 PM

i knew we could count on johan to finally get us a win.....against kansas city....oh man....

and rondell! it makes me so happy to look at the gameday screen and see "rondell white homered."

Posted by: anna at August 31, 2006 03:25 PM

It is a very Germish name. I have often reflected upon that myself, and have yet to reconcile the names in my head. However, I have learned to accept the goodness that is Johan K. Santana. Even if his names don't match.

Posted by: FH at August 31, 2006 03:29 PM

I think it's a great name. Flows from your tongue in a very pleasant way.

Perhaps it's symbolic: Johan Santana is a pitcher of the masses. His awesomeness crosses boundaries of language and culture.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 03:32 PM

And he sits down batters of every team. :)

Posted by: Piranhtachew at August 31, 2006 03:46 PM

How much do I love this particular picture of Johan?? THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSS much. and winning is nice too.

Posted by: AT at August 31, 2006 04:03 PM

Today's performance proves that Johan doesn't need much rest between starts. So, let's have him start every other game. I'd like our chances.

Posted by: Nick at August 31, 2006 04:07 PM

I once read that Johan's mother's name is Hilda, which may explain things a little.

Posted by: Word Smith at August 31, 2006 04:10 PM

Speaking of things that are hot... this report from the top of the 10th inning in Chicago came across GameDay a bit ago...

Jorge Cantu singles on a line drive to left fielder Scott Podsednik. Delmon Young scores. Greg Norton scores. Dioner Navarro to 2nd.

Tres hot (see, I can say something en francais that isnt #@^$#@, too.)

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 31, 2006 04:10 PM

...thank you Tampa Bay!

Posted by: cd at August 31, 2006 04:14 PM

"Piranhtachew"

Hee.

Stacey, you make a great point with the "awesomeness crossing boundaries" thing. Yea, I accept your theory as truth, for lo! the might and hotness of Johan have been proven many times over.

Posted by: FH at August 31, 2006 04:15 PM

And we're back within a half game.
I thank you for your sucking, Bitch Sox.

Posted by: arcolala at August 31, 2006 04:17 PM

I knew we could count on Johan. Reliability is hawt.

Posted by: WC at August 31, 2006 04:19 PM

"And he sits down batters of every team."

True that, piranhtachew (can I call you "The Batling Formerly Known As Packerchu"?). El Presidente is an equal-opportunity pitcher.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 04:26 PM

Never mind all that - how will Johan deal with the mental strain of pitching 16 innings over three days?

Posted by: BD at August 31, 2006 04:34 PM

Johan, you rock. You were rightly given BOD honors. Thank you so much for giving me one day of peace and calm before we enter our series against the Yankees.

Posted by: TwinsPrincess at August 31, 2006 04:57 PM

Danke Schoen, Johan. Or, mucho gracias, Santana. And same for the Devil Rays--a piranhas best friend. For a day, anyway. Next week I hope we turn them into chum.

Posted by: E-6 at August 31, 2006 05:13 PM

Johan/Santana
Esteban/German

hmmmmmmmmmmmm ....

Posted by: jamar1700 at August 31, 2006 06:03 PM

Now if Doc Doesn't win Tonight Johan will have the same Number of wins and there will be nothing stoping him from his 2nd CY YOUNG

Game recap by Walt Whitman:

O Johan! my Johan! our fearful trip’s not done;
The ship’s not weather’d every rack, the prize we seek’s not won.
The port is near, the crowd you hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding Sox of White,
Have on deck this KC wreck;
We face the Yankees’ might.

O Johan! my Johan! rise up and hear the yells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the victory bells;
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the Dome a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Johan! dear Johan!
More laurels upon your head;
It is no dream that on the mound,
You’re the one batters most dread.

Posted by: twayn at August 31, 2006 07:32 PM

I love a win in any form, but it's just a bummer that we have to use Johan on the ROYALS and not the YANKEES.

Posted by: Erin at August 31, 2006 07:34 PM

*standing O for twayn*

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 31, 2006 07:36 PM

And a smattering of applause for Whitman.
