Some weekend links for the series:
Mr. Baseball No. 1 has a good round-up of the Chicago papers comments about Johan Santana. Ozzie seems to think the players are letting Santana beat them in their minds, whereas Batgirl thinks he's beating them just fine with his pitching.
Jesse's recap somehow does justice to the game. Also at Twinkie Town, cmatheson has a fabulous discussion of the 2007 roster and explains Radke's prognosis.
Will Young's WPA for this game is pretty fun.
Strib news: Playoff rosters are coming. And from the PiPress a couple days ago, Dennys Sampler Reyes is the LOOGY of the future.
Some great links there, BG, thanks. I just read a BitchSox blog that TwinkieTown provided a link to. I could barely stop laughing. Click my nick if you want to chuckle a little bit. (Boy, I thought we came down on Gardy around here a bit hard from time to time, but there's some folks ready to run Ozzie outta town over there, I think.)
Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 01:00 PMDear Mr. Crikket,
Well, it's true. I mean, what has Ozzie ever done for them?
Sweetly,
Batgirl
Good point, BG... Hell, they come up with a manager who takes them to the promised land every 80 or 90 years just like clockwork. :)
Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 01:35 PMThanks for the links. This is a little off topic, but I found out that I throw SIDE-ARMED like Sideshow Pat. I think that's pretty cool.
Posted by: TwinsPrincess at August 26, 2006 03:05 PMAnd the south-side suicide watch is now in effect. Man, these dullards are almost as bad as the Red Sox faithless after last week's Boston massacre.
Unrelated query for JCrikket: How was NYC? No fan of the ballclubs, but I love that town.

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 03:14 PMWhen I saw the RIP tombstone (at the link provided courtesy of JimCrikket), I couldn't contain my laughter--or the drink of water I'd just taken.
Drying out the keyboard...
Posted by: JetChick at August 26, 2006 03:14 PMI suppose if we go back to April's and May's archives around here, they were pretty maudlin as well... but yeah, JetChick, I found that pretty humorous. They're half a game out of the WC for crying out loud.
Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 03:17 PMJimCrikket,
I've been having fun reading the BitchSox blog, too. My favorite (and the highlight of my afternoon) is the comment that Johan is nothing to fear - after all, "he has an ERA of over 3.00."
The whole Sox blog is pathetic, from the gravestone picture to the attitude of the writer and the fans. Let's hope the Sox themselves have the same attitude after last night and our Twins can feast on them tonight.
Posted by: Anna at August 26, 2006 03:33 PMI know it reveals a flaw in my personality that I revel in the suffering of some of my fellow human beings but... well... I'm flawed. So be it :)
Im with you... hope they're whining and crying even bigger rivers tonight.
Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 03:38 PMAh, ya gotta love that Schadenfreude, JimCrikket. Didn't think you had it in you! (JetChick laughs nervously to cover up her own case of the Schadenfreudens...)
Posted by: JetChick at August 26, 2006 03:49 PMAt first I was a bit nervous (wasnt sure just exactly what disease I was being diagnosed with)... until I looked up the term. Now I'm cool with it, JetChick. :)
Posted by: JimCrikket at August 26, 2006 03:53 PMConsidering what Sox fans have done on BG in the past...I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of schadenfreude here.
Afterall, it's gotten to the point where their going after their own fans for blame.
Posted by: Torhu at August 26, 2006 05:10 PMThis is TOTALLY off topic... but it bears mentioning.
Ann Carroll's pre/post game performances on FSN are paiiiiiiiiiinful. I've seen oak trees with more charisma. At times I think she's going to forget what team she's talking about... "Great job Viki- I mean, uh!" From what quarry was this granite of a woman mined?
And pity Roy Smalley who somehow must act like his co-host's seat isn't vacant. I've never been a Marney Gellner devotee, but I'm starting to pine for her. While never great, she does at least possess one key trait — competence.
Posted by: Jeremy Jones at August 26, 2006 06:08 PMI agree with you on Ann Carroll, Jeremy. It's hard to watch.
