B.O.D.

First off, a huge BODSHC shout out to young Master Matt Garza for his first major league win, a quality start, and giving us all reason to breathe again. But the BOD is not to be his, yet—BG doesn't want to give him too much in one night. And his line was helped tremendously by some truly tenacious D, including a whopper of a catch by our erstwhile third baseperson. And the glove work was merely the cherry on top of a delicious offensive powerhouse sundae. Quietly, Cuddy is moving ever-closer to 100 RBIs for the season, and Batgirl, for one, thinks that would be mad hot. He's a streaky cat, that DJ Cuddles, and if he chooses to streak us all the way to the playoffs that's just fine with Batgirl. Three for five, two doubles, two RBIs, and one beautiful catch—that makes you, DJ Cuddles, the Boyfriend of the Day.

Goober/Doctor 21; Readers/The Field 20; Sooz/(Cuddy) 11; Batbaby/Torii 10; Batgirl/Chairman 7; Jeb/Lewwww 4.

YAY Cuddy! And yay for hot defense. These boys are so much fun to watch...even the Orioles announcers were giving our flashy gloves props. GO TWINS!

Posted by: katofrog at August 23, 2006 09:48 PM

Agreed. Great defense is HOT.

Posted by: Megan at August 23, 2006 09:51 PM

Congratulations to Cuddy!
Great job by the Twins as a whole today, especially after a not so good day yesterday.

Posted by: Twin-X at August 23, 2006 09:52 PM

no argument here. Great game all around for Cuddles.

Posted by: JimCrikket at August 23, 2006 09:52 PM

BG.
As a hetero male, it took me a while to 'get' the whole BOD and 'non-sexual man crush' thing. But after watching Cuddyer and Garza tonight, I am starting to understand it. I had a few warm, fuzzy moments. I get it now.

Master Matt Garza, hmmm......perhaps his nickname shall be 'Jedi Master Garza'?

//DETROIT -- Jim Thome left Wednesday's game against the Tigers at Comerica Park after coming through with a run-scoring double with two outs in the second against Detroit reliever Wilfredo Ledezma.
The White Sox slugger lined the double to left-center, bringing home Rob Mackowiak during a three-run second inning. But five or six steps after rounding first base, Thome appeared to come up lame, and replays showed the powerful designated hitter reach for an area near his left hamstring.//

That was a fun game to watch. At least one of those flashy plays had better be a web gem tonight, if not more!

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 23, 2006 10:01 PM

Yay for Matt Garza! I've been sending him good vibes since he was brought up, they're finally paying off!

Posted by: Elle at August 23, 2006 10:08 PM

Garza Nickname?
The big G
Master G
any other suggestions?

Posted by: billhedrick at August 23, 2006 10:11 PM

How 'bout "Garzie"

Posted by: PJStP at August 23, 2006 10:23 PM

Mmm ... The only thing that's coming to mind is "Bulldog", since he went to Frenso State. :/

Posted by: Packerchu at August 23, 2006 10:25 PM

Oh, wait. "Garza Strip"?

Posted by: Packerchu at August 23, 2006 10:25 PM

hmmm interesting battery: Garza Strip to NBP

Posted by: billhedrick at August 23, 2006 10:26 PM

I'm fond of "G-Spot".

Posted by: Kris at August 23, 2006 10:30 PM

I Vote for the BullDog

Posted by: Paul at August 23, 2006 10:30 PM

Living in Cheeseland and unable to get hardly any Twins games locally, I'm EVER so glad I decided to subscribe to MLB.TV this very evening, right at the start of the game. God bless streaming video at a decent bps.

Cuddyer actually brought tears to my eyes--the man was red hot tonight! I thought to myself "BG should make him B.O.D."

Ah...great minds...

Posted by: JetChick at August 23, 2006 10:35 PM

I'm thinking the "G-man" for a nickname...

Posted by: JetChick at August 23, 2006 10:36 PM

G-man, well historically Gary Gaetti was the "G-man" so I am loathe to hand it out again.

Posted by: billhedrick at August 23, 2006 10:39 PM

mmmmmmmm...the HOTTT corner...mmmmmmmm

So who else is going to the game tomorrow night? I know JanineinDC and I are coming in a group of 5. Anybody else going to be there?

To identify me, I'll be the only guy at Camden Yards wearing a powder blue throwback G-Man jersey (that's Gary Gaetti to you youngin's).

Posted by: Will Young at August 23, 2006 11:43 PM

Oh, wow. When was the last time we saw THAT much Twins leather flashing about? INsanely gorgeous. Has anybody caught the Plays of the Day on SC yet? I'm curious as to how many we got ;)

Lovely work today, Cuddles!

Way up in Minnesota close to old St. Paul
Way back up in the woods close to that great big mall
There stands a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lives a country boy named Cuddy B. Goode
Who can entertain his teammates with a magic trick,
And knock in winning runs with his Boom Boom stick.

(Chorus)
Go, go. Go Cuddy, go.
Go, go Cuddy, go.
Go, go Cuddy, go.
Go, go Cuddy, go.
Go, go. Cuddy B. Goode.

He used to carry balls and bats in a gunny sack
Go play in that old ball-field by the railroad track
The engineers would see him playing out there in the sun
And cheer for him to throw and catch and hit and run
People passing by, they would stop and say
Oh, my, that little country boy can play.

(Chorus)

His mother told him some day you will be a Twin
And you will get the hits that they will need to win
People will be coming, flocking to the Dome
To watch you play some baseball when the team’s at home
Up there on the Jumbotron your name will be in lights
Saying Cuddy B. Goode tonight.

(Chorus)

There were two, Ford: I believe one was Torii's catch, and the other was Castillo's play at second.

Is it just me, or was not Cuddy's catch more spectacular than Torii's? Not that Torii's wasn't entertaining.

Posted by: Spacey Stacey at August 24, 2006 02:02 AM

Cuddyer's was definitely better. I always hated those plays-he had really no time to make the decision to go ahead & lay out for it, and diving straight ahead sucks. Very nice. The D tonight was all-around sexy, though.

My strike zone (SZ=size of zone) formula for tonight:
SZ(Garza) X 1.5 = SZ(Lopez), & SZ(Lopez) X 2 = SZ(Kubel).
Kubel had at least one ball per AB called a strike. I was happy to see Gardy back him up.
GO BOOF.
P.S. CONGRATS PAD SQUAD ON THE DODGERS SWEEP!

Posted by: clay jr at August 24, 2006 03:16 AM

Very good Barry Chuck. Cuddles was so very hot tonight

Posted by: Spamsmom at August 24, 2006 04:10 AM

What else can it be other than "Gardzilla"? Although after he got tossed out last night I guess you could use for Gardy too.

Posted by: Ted at August 24, 2006 07:29 AM

Maybe Gardy's nick name should be "Cookies".

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 24, 2006 07:56 AM

Ted, take the "d" out and I think it works better for Garza; "Garzilla". As a fellow Fresno State guy, I can see why Matt might like "Bulldog" - but that was Orel Hersheyhizer's nickname, wasn't it? Plus it's boring. Surely we can do better.

Posted by: adidasman at August 24, 2006 08:56 AM

Oh, and Will Young, my wife and my son and I will be there tonight; look for a painfully cute blond, blue-eyed 17-month-old in a Twins jumper (and Dad in a number 8 navy road jersey) and that's us.

Posted by: adidasman at August 24, 2006 08:59 AM

adidasman: Will and I (and our entourage of devastatingly cute Twins fans) will keep an eye out for you :)

Posted by: JanineInDC at August 24, 2006 09:25 AM

While looking for the mug shot they used of Garza last night -- because it was hysterical and should be preserved and shared -- I had a disturbing revelation. I realized who Garza reminded me of... [click].

Posted by: WC at August 24, 2006 09:42 AM

WC: You've made it impossible for me to work for the next 20 minutes.

Also, speaking of Garza. I thought it was awesome that the Veep was the one who pied Garza during his interview with Bert and Andy last night.

Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at August 24, 2006 10:17 AM

adidasman: "Garzilla"? Works for me.

But only after he wins his next 3-4 starts of course.

Posted by: Ted at August 24, 2006 10:32 AM

YAy! I [heart] it when my boyfriend gets BOD honors.

I think Garza's nickname should be "The Matt G. with a Win". Just to irritate Matt Guerrier further.

Posted by: JustBeth at August 24, 2006 10:52 AM

Garza's nickname? How about G-Force. Or maybe The Insurance Policy.

Posted by: twayn at August 24, 2006 10:53 AM

Thanks for the pics, WC - does anyone else think Garza's head looks WAY too small for his shoulders? It's uncanny.

Posted by: Beth at August 24, 2006 12:45 PM

Let me just say what I have been long overdue in saying - Michael Cuddyer is what this game and this team are all about. Struggling for years, with "potential" and "promise" and all those albatrosses clinging to his neck, and now he's hitting cleanup - CLEANUP! - for a team that's 21 games over .500 and smelling the playoffs. And he just gets better on the field with each game, and more humble every time you see him in the media, as he's become one of the true leaders on this ballclub. Way to go, Cuddles. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: adidasman at August 24, 2006 03:08 PM

Dear Boof,

Please have a good game today. I want the Twins to pitch you with confidence in your next start so Johan can pitch my game in New York. Plus, we need Johan against those bastards.

Posted by: clay jr at August 24, 2006 04:25 PM

I like G-Force, twayn. That's a good one.
