Someone set us up the bomb

-Morneau

Posted by: angrynorwegian at July 18, 2006 10:17 PM

Kazmir: "Someone set us up the bomb!"

Posted by: amr at July 18, 2006 10:18 PM

Awesome. Even though it was the D-rays, that's the only way I can explain what we've all just witnessed.

Posted by: Twinsboy at July 18, 2006 10:19 PM

shouldn't that be "All Your Bitches Are Belong To Us"?

Posted by: bill at July 18, 2006 10:23 PM

I was glad to see LNP in the lineup. The Strib (click my name) says he "played through the pain" but that he's not bound for the DL.

Posted by: BlueCanoe at July 18, 2006 10:25 PM

THAT WAS AWESOME, I wish he could have had the complete, shut out. But I guess that will have to wait oh, say 5 days.

Posted by: Twin-X at July 18, 2006 10:28 PM

Dear Mr. Bill,

Yes.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

Posted by: Jeb at July 18, 2006 10:30 PM

what an absolute dick gardenhire is. even when we have the game wrapped up, he inexplicably takes just morneau out of the game, causing the error and the lost shutout. seriously, he somehow found a way to tarnish this near perfect game.

but still, great win, glad cisco's back to "normal"

Posted by: Nick at July 18, 2006 10:31 PM

Oh, come on. It's not inexplicable, he was giving the guy an AB and playing time in a game that was well in hand. I'm sure if he could look into the future and see what would happen, he wouldn't have made the substitution, but that sort of thing happens all the time in blow outs.

Posted by: Bella at July 18, 2006 10:37 PM

he leaves punto and castillo in, who are both certifiably injured, but takes morneau, who had been picking bad throws all game out? makes no sense.

of course it's petty, but the way liriano is pitching, it's shocking he ever gives up a run

Posted by: Nick at July 18, 2006 10:39 PM

I know Liriano kicked ass, and the offense went all scoring-happy.

But in all that chaos....Rondell White went 2-3 with a walk.

Yeah he flubbed on the basis twice, but he also got the butt end of two nice fielding plays.

Posted by: Torhu at July 18, 2006 10:45 PM

The point is to give Tiffee an AB, not take anyone out. Punto wasn't batting that inning. It makes perfect sense. Come on, let's not spoil this win, it was awesome!!!! And Liriano did not, technically, give up a run--it was unearned.

Posted by: Bella at July 18, 2006 10:47 PM

I am only somewhat embarrassed to admit that, at two outs and two strikes in the ninth, I stood up all by myself in my living room.

Posted by: Word Smith at July 18, 2006 10:48 PM

Thank you, Bella!

Posted by: Donnalove at July 18, 2006 10:49 PM

Good girl! Bella you've got brains. You know what the point is, many don't.

Posted by: Broker at July 18, 2006 10:57 PM

Five wins in a row!! Good good.

Too bad Cisco didn't get the shutout but for reasons stated above it is understandable, and I'm still really happy at the awesome outing.

"All Your Bitches Are Belong To Us"- hilarious... he totally owns every batter that steps in that box.

Posted by: L.H. girl at July 18, 2006 11:04 PM

"You have no chance to survive make your time."

Oh, we totally need a video mashup for the Batgirl version.

In other news: Yay bfLNP!!!!

Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at July 18, 2006 11:11 PM

no, there is no reason why terry flippin tiffee needed to get a meaningless at bat against the d-rays. the twins do this more than any other team. it's like gardy is afraid to hurt anyone's feelings so he has to give them weird at bats or innings in the field or pinch running stints. it's pointless; and it deprived liriano and the twins of the first CG and SO of the season.

Posted by: Dave at July 18, 2006 11:11 PM

Dick Gardenhire?

Sounds like a good nickname.

Posted by: bubblemint at July 18, 2006 11:13 PM

There was a pitcher in the game? I'm pretty sure I only noticed a hot blast into the abyss...
In my mind, I nominated the Dr. for BOD. ( I'm not arguing, mind)

Posted by: ClosetJaysFan at July 18, 2006 11:18 PM

when did this become a "Gardy bashing after an 8-1 win" site? enjoy the season guys!

Posted by: Ovie at July 18, 2006 11:23 PM

For the record, there are apparently two Nicks now posting here. This Nick, though not entirely paying attention to the game because of studying for the bar exam, still thoroughly enjoyed the sitting down of bitches. So he didn't get a CG or SO. Meh. It doesn't take away from the hotness of it all!

Posted by: Nick at July 18, 2006 11:28 PM

Dear readers,

Goodness. Yes. We won! Our fifth in a row! With all Red Wings! Liriano was awesome! So much offense! Yippeeee!

Love,
Batgirl

Posted by: Batgirl at July 18, 2006 11:28 PM

Complete game? Who cares?!? The win is all that matters.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking the Doctor out of a blowout game. In fact, with the injury bug going through the team, combined with Morneau's penchant for bizarre ailments, it's BETTER to get JustIncredible out of it unscathed.

Get over it, guys.

Posted by: SaraZ at July 18, 2006 11:34 PM

I would have really liked to see Cisco get that one... last... out... that it would have taken to get his complete game, but alas.

White, 2-3? Whoosh!

I was very very very very happy to hear that Punto was still in and not TOO horribly injured. Heart.

Posted by: FordHoiberg at July 18, 2006 11:42 PM

The game was awesome. Yes, have some.

Posted by: sacky at July 18, 2006 11:47 PM

So my dad and I are at the game tonight, watching The Cisco Kid prove to everyone who the real 22- year old pitching phenom is (anyone else notice that half of this Kazmir kid's losses came against our boys?), when my dad came up with his latest conspiracy theory (of which there are many): So we all know that Ozzie Guillen is the manager of the Bitch-Sox, making him the biggest Bitch-I-Want-To-Sock of them all. Therefore, should it have surprised anyone that he waited until the absolute last minute to add Liriano to the All-Star Team? Waited until Liriano was back in the Dominican? Think about this: Guillen takes his own guy (Contreras) out of the game to give him extra rest, then forces our poor Kid to endure 48 hours on an airplane, knowing that it will leave him tired for his next start. And what happens? Liriano actually looks human for a game against the Indians, reminds us all that he is really a god tonight, and meanwhile Ozzie is laughing all the way to the Central Title.

Say what you will, but my dad's had crazier ideas in his lifetime.

Posted by: Love Them Twinks at July 18, 2006 11:51 PM

Ya know... I don't ever recall a time when this team was more fun to watch than they have been for the past two months. Yeah, they're winning all the time, but it's HOW they're winning that's so much fun. Ridiculous pitching, super-aggressive play all around, and great defense. It's quintessential Minnesota Twins baseball.

Sounds cheezball, but... the stats and stuff doesn't really matter to me (despite having half these guys on my fantasy team... and yes, I have Cisco AND Santana). Even if we don't make the playoffs, I'll be fine. These guys are fun to watch, and that's what it's all about, if you ask me.

Seriously. I can't wait for the game to start each day.

Enjoy this time, folks.

Posted by: Freez at July 19, 2006 01:29 AM

I love the theory, "Love Them Twinks." And let's not forget the "punch A.J." campaign that Guillen was pushing in the Final Ballot race. I say we run with the conspiracy.

As for the Tiffee/Morneau flap-I guess I would have let Morneau bat, because if he's a bonafide MVP candidate now, he will be soon. And defensively, you don't wanna lose the shutout. That being said, the score was 8-0, and you really can't bat Tiffee for White or pull Rabe out of his 1st game after his 1st hit. Sadly, the blame falls to Tiffee, not Gardy, and Tiffee clearly knew it.

Posted by: clay jr at July 19, 2006 01:34 AM

The error was disappointing, but you have to keep in mind that it could just as easily happened to Morneau, or anyone for that matter. Better defensive players than the Doctor have their share of "duh" moments; it's part of baseball. You just have to be glad it happened in a blowout.

Tiffee will probably play as heads-up as he ever has for the next month because of that error. Of course, Gardy may not play him for another month...

Posted by: ralf at July 19, 2006 02:10 AM

"Seriously. I can't wait for the game to start each day."
True words Freez.
There game has been at its peak for the last 2 months. You keep thinking the bubble is going to burst, but no its not. I really think people should just watch the Twins for the joy of the game. These kids are so focused on the game and each other and everything just keeps going. This will be a team that you will tell your children and grandchildren about some day. There is an aura and magic about this team that I have not seen in alot of years.
Everyone just enjoy.

BatGirl, if you start making Goatse references, I'm leaving. ;-)

Posted by: tgd at July 19, 2006 05:52 AM

anyone else think that bringing Liriano out for the 9th was a bad idea? i mean, he was at 88 pitches after 8 and i think he had only thrown 20 (yes 20!) balls against 68 strikes.
i was at the game and couldnt believe that they didnt even have anyone getting up in the bullpen. the only one moving was the ball boy. i had visions of another line drive like the one earlier in the game actually doing damage to Liriano and almost got sick from the thought.

Posted by: TeeNutts at July 19, 2006 08:38 AM

tqd, I get the attempt at humor, but that term is offensive...and disrepectful when paired with the host of this blog.

Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at July 19, 2006 08:55 AM

I think that the BOD picture/phrase deserves a T-shirt.

Thanks for the blog. Since I live in National League Hell, where the only access I can get to the Twins is when they make it on the occasional national TV airing, you keep me in touch with things Twinsian.

Posted by: PatGLex at July 19, 2006 08:56 AM

If you want to blame someone, blame the radio dudes. Once they saw nobody warming up for the Twins, they decided the CG/SO was in the books and said so. Repeatedly.

Tsk, tsk, radio dudes.

Posted by: wc at July 19, 2006 09:12 AM

Frisco! WOW! That was...awesome. I think it was his way of saying to Kazmir, "No, as a matter of fact, you are *not* the best 22-year-old pitcher out there. Thanks for asking." Or he was sending a message to Ozzie, "How come he got to pitch in the All-Star game and I didn't?"

ralf-Thanks for defending Tiffee. The catch he had to make was actually a little difficult. Would Justin have had it? Probably, but only due to the amount of time he's played at first. Tiffee hasn't had that much time there. There may be days Tiffee is *needed* to play first (I hope not, but even Justin will need a day off eventually). I'm glad Tiffee got out there last night to get some time in, when the one run didn't mean the game.

Posted by: JustBeth at July 19, 2006 09:14 AM

I'm not saying it was an easy catch for Tiffee, and I understand he just came off the bench, so I wasn't trying to pile on the guy.
Now, though, he's been overly defended. The play wasn't that hard, and it's one that had to be made with that type of performance on the line. Gotta back up your guy. Look at Liriano's quote, "I wanted a shutout and I wanted to finish, but..."
Remember, Franchise is 22. He wants that CG SO at that age, and he was clearly irritated to not get it. I think we want him to be that way, actually.
All I'm saying is that Tiffee is accountable, and you could see him apologizing in the post-game handshake lineup. Of course, Liriano didn't need to leave that last pitch up, either...
Anyway, it's just great to watch this team. I loved seeing how Santana/Silva were beaming at Franchise after the game. This is going to be a hell of a 2nd half.

Posted by: clay jr at July 19, 2006 01:35 PM

Heh, Clay. I just got this mental picture of Santana/Silva beaming with tears in their eyes and exclaiming, "Look at our little Franchise all growed up! Why, it seems like it was just yesterday that he struck out his first batter!"

Posted by: Saajak at July 19, 2006 04:25 PM

I second that emotion, PatGLex, it would be a sweet shirt.

You have wonderful fashion sense, BatGirl, please accept my offering of dead presidents in exchange for the "All Your Base" tshirt.

Posted by: dpm at July 19, 2006 07:01 PM

Alas, Batgirl cannot make a shirt with an image of a player. She can, however, make an "all your bitches...." shirt....
