When Rondell White left to get his shoulder loosened (Batgirl imagines the doctor taking a screwdriver, muttering 'Righty tighty lefty loosey' and turning) it seemed there was a chance the source of his sheer crapitude had been found. But then he didn't exactly tear up his rehab assignment, and BG wondered if he was even going to make it back with the team, but injury to the entire outfield rendered that question moot. In White's first appearance today, he grounded out. In his second, that-guy-who's-not-Coco-Crisp lost the ball in the lights and White had a gift double, then on Jason Tyner's hit he chugged home so fast he scared the ball right out of Victor Martinez's hands. Then, in the third, he pulled the crap out of a ball that ended up landing foul somewhere between Juan Rincon and Rick Stelmazeck in the Twins bullpen and the guy behind Batgirl said, "That's the best swing he's had all year." It quickly became the second best as Rondell launched the ball over the left field seats, giving him his long-awaited first home run of the year. And it was a beautiful sight. This, Rondell White, is the Boyfriend of the Day. Do you like it? Isn't it fun? Want more? I thought you did.
Goober/Doctor: 16; Readers/The Field: 14; Batbaby/Torii: 8; Batgirl/Chairman 6; Jeb/ Lewwww3; Sooz/Stewie 3.
Readers, help BG. There are three Team Batgirl boyfriends on the DL. What the heck do we do with this?
I think Team Batgirl members should be allowed to pick an emergency back-up boyfriend while their primary boyfriend is on the DL.
Posted by: Kurtis at July 16, 2006 04:39 PMcongrats Rondell! I wish I'd been at the game instead of watching on TV, but if I hadn't had that migraine today, I never would have been home to see it. so, uh... yay?
Posted by: kafumbly at July 16, 2006 04:40 PMGood for Rondell! I was hoping he'd hit that dinger someday.
Those with injured Twins boyfriends could choose fill-in Red Wings boyfriends.
Posted by: Roscoe at July 16, 2006 04:40 PMWooooHoooooo!!!!!! Finally Ron (the other white meat) is showing us what a DH is supposed to do, good for him.
The boyfriend situation- I think that they should do what all of baseball does when someone is on the DL, find someone to take that position until they are healthy enough to return. Don't forget about them, just try to find someone who is the second closest to your heart until they return. Just my thoughts anyway.
Posted by: L.H. girl at July 16, 2006 04:42 PMSorry to hear your not feeling well kafumbly... but just be thankful that you can watch some of the games (unlike myself because my parents are to flippin tight to buy cable, or take me to any games!!)
*gathers self* Uummm, sorry about that people- the heat and lack of Twins viewing can get to a girl, very sorry.
Posted by: L.H. girl at July 16, 2006 04:46 PMRondell hits a dinger and I. Was. There!
Team BG members should definitely be allowed to choose backup boyfriends. I mean, Goober's kinda running away with this thing anyway, but still... the rest of Team BG should at least get to have a shot at earning a point for themselves.
Posted by: FordHoiberg at July 16, 2006 04:47 PMSeeing as two of those Team Batgirl BF's are Lew & Stew, neither of whom ever, ever, ever, since 2004, deserves to have one of the few hallowed spots in the Team Batgirl BF pantheon, I gotta say that the Team Batgirl member should be given the gracious option of dumping their BF, and hooking up with some hot young stud, just to make their previous BF jealous.
Posted by: mbnovak at July 16, 2006 04:50 PMThe other choice would be for Team BG to adopt the person called up for the injured player, until the Boyfriend is back. Tyner was called up for Ford, White for Stewert, and Rabe for Hunter. We as Twins fans need to support these guys, so why not Team BG?
Posted by: Scotty_Dawg at July 16, 2006 05:01 PMWe should have the mascot softball game before each game. I bet Rondell was thinking "if that giant liver can hit the ball, I can too!" And maybe get the tuna to ump--gotta love his "safe". I was out by the milk jug yelling encouragement to Rondell (while simultaneously cheering for Cuddy) and got some looks the first time he was up to bat. Between Cuddy and Rondell, I looked good to the rest of my section by the end of the game. A BOD nod to Cuddyer for his dinger and his great catch (right by me).
Posted by: Sandee at July 16, 2006 05:02 PMWhen The Other White Meat hit that homer I nearly cried in relief. I was a little happy for him.
Posted by: L. at July 16, 2006 05:04 PMInjured BOD solution? Just give it to the Doctor.
Posted by: dlarso01 at July 16, 2006 05:14 PMTeam BG can pick whatever "fling on the side" they'd like for their DL'd boyfriends. That's my vote.
So proud of Rondell. aw.
And TOTALLY agree with Sandee. The mascot softball game was quite entertaining. The tuna ump was emphatic about his job.
Posted by: aurora at July 16, 2006 05:19 PMCongrats Rondell. Here's hoping for many more BODs.
What a great time...the mascot softball game was a hoot, Silva looked pretty good (after the lead off hitter), and a Twins win. Oh, and I brought my kids and their friend, who were all wearing sideburns -- and they got on the Jumbotron! They loved it.

Posted by: k-bro at July 16, 2006 05:39 PMBoy you all are feeling mighty generous toward team BG! I guess I'm not QUITE so generous.
I think when you pick a BF, you should be in it for the long haul and take in to account the possibility that said BF might not live up to expectations, be it due to injury or just plain suckiness. The time to be allowed to dump said BF is (a) after the season or (b) when said BF is no longer on the team.
That said, a BF is not the same as a "til death do us part (or I really cant stand your ass anymore)" spouse. So SOME allowance should be made (especially for a batbaby who clearly did not get good advice from the rest of team BG in choosing someone who missed half the prior season due to injury).
So... I suggest those with BFs on the DL be allowed to choose a replacement, but must choose a pitcher... or Cuddyer... since the rule that first priority for BOD honors goes to team BG BFs has clearly cost Cuddyer and a number of pitchers BOD honors several times already.
Alternatively, BG can do just whatever she damn well pleases cuz, well yanno, it's her deal. :)
Helpfully (or not),
JC
Posted by: JimCrikket at July 16, 2006 05:41 PMAnd in other news... Sox (both of em) lose. Tigers lose. We should do this more often -- say every day for the next two weeks or so.

Posted by: expatriate at July 16, 2006 05:43 PMEach Boyfriend should be allowed a non-sexual mancrush as an injury replacement / backup.
Posted by: TD at July 16, 2006 05:53 PMMy mom doesn't follow baseball too much (well, she follows Jeter and that's pretty much it) so I keep her up-to-date on the Twins. Not longer after I yelled from my room, "Wow, you can really tell we are hurting for players because Nicky Punto has switched to center field and Rondell White is back in the line-up" did I yell out, "Holy crap! Rondell White hit a homerun!"
From the kitchen I heard my mom chuckle in response... which means she actually has been listening to me all this time. Cool.
In regards to the BF situation, I think it's a good idea for Team Batgirl members to pick a substitute BF until their original BF is healthy and off the DL.
Posted by: Shelley at July 16, 2006 05:57 PMPast BOD rules have held that:
1) If a player leaves the team permanently, the grief-striken member may pick a new BF and retain all of his/her previous points. (See: Goober in 2004.)
2) If someone wishes to dump their boyfriend unceremoniously during the season, he/she may, but will forfeit his/her previous points. This has never happened as Team Batgirl is a loyal, if incredibly foolish, bunch.
3) Boyfriends are boyfriends regardless of injury (as Batgirl learned when her new BFF injured himself for half the season within 4 hours of her announcing her selection in 2004).
4) Should 50% or fewer of TBB be in the line-up, the BOD sets to "honorary."
What we have here are extenuating circumstances. It's no fun to have it be honorary for a month. BG likes the call-up idea and the replacement idea (for the replacements will necessarily be people who have gotten hosed by BOD law.)
Posted by: B.O.D.S.H.C. at July 16, 2006 05:58 PMWhat sort of case law do we have on the books in terms of BOD?
I might expect some challenges in the near future...
Posted by: Eric at July 16, 2006 06:12 PMDid you guys like the way we swept the Bitchsox, as you guys like to refer to them ?
Posted by: public enemy mike at July 16, 2006 06:13 PMspeaking only for myself, mike... yes.
However, I reserve the right to use 20-20 hindsight to change my mind should the season unfold and it turns out it's the Yankees that the Twins are chasing for a wild card berth.

Posted by: JimCrikket at July 16, 2006 06:18 PMyes, p.e.m., I do like that. now be good and go out and get swept yourselves. ;-)
Posted by: kafumbly at July 16, 2006 06:20 PM"go get swept yourselves"... Is that kinda like tellin' 'em to "go f..."
No, probably not. ;)
Posted by: JimCrikket at July 16, 2006 06:30 PMBG,
As I remember, that first year you had 2 boyfriends... Joe Mauer AND Clay Matvick.
DL
Posted by: Donnalove at July 16, 2006 06:34 PMwell, what girl in her right mind DOESN'T have Clay Matvick as a boyfriend?
Posted by: kafumbly at July 16, 2006 06:58 PMI've got the answer BG! How about The Boyfriend Pro Temp?
Posted by: Twinsboy at July 16, 2006 07:35 PMOk, you got to look at this, remember the whole thing about Guillen and intentionally hitting people, well they called the same kid he got mad at back up from the minors. You should read the 12th paragraph, how did he let the team down" He got the out, unless he was supposed to hit the guy.
Sorry this is off topic but I thought you would all like another reason not to like Guillen.

I think Team Batgirl should get to "call up" boyfriends from the minor leagues. Each can pick a Rochester Red Wing to be their substitute.
I guess that might be considered cradle-robbing, though.
Posted by: Andre at July 17, 2006 12:16 AMHonestly, I think the best way to deal with BG boyfriends being on the DL is to simply become nurses...
Posted by: kizzann at July 17, 2006 02:00 AMI would like to voice my vote that one of the Team Batgirl members choose Cuddyer too.
Though having the guy called up replace your boyfriend is a fun idea, I do think we need to give props to one who has been here a long time, and has improved immensely this season.
Please Team Batgirl..consider this.
D.J. Cuddles needs a little love too.
"Readers, help BG. There are three Team Batgirl boyfriends on the DL. What the heck do we do with this?"
That's easy, you make LNP the utility BOD!
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at July 17, 2006 11:19 AMOoh! I think BAT bandwagoner's got something there...
Posted by: twink at July 17, 2006 01:44 PMGrr. Why isn't the game on TV tonight?
