I know one protective cup who is going to be very happy about this...
From the Strib:
The Twins will recall starting pitcher Scott Baker from Class AAA Rochester to fill the roster spot created when veteran pinch-hitter Ruben Sierra was released Monday. The original plan was to wait until Monday to officially recall Baker, so that he could start that night's game against Tampa Bay at the Metrodome.Posted by Batgirl at July 11, 2006 02:49 PMThe timetable figures to change with the uncertainty now surrounding the rotiation. The Twins had two starters, Francisco Liriano and Johan Santana, in Tuesday night's All-Star Game. There also will be a medical consultation today on the condition of Carlos Silva's right knee. He complained of soreness and left Saturday's start in which he was getting ripped by Kansas City.
Baker is 3-2 with a ! 2.92 ERA in seven starts for Rochester. Baker was 2-5 with a 6.06 ERA in nine starts for the Twins earlier this season.
Wonder where this article came from? They're a little off on their facts, I'm pretty sure Carlos got ripped friday in Texas, not saturday in Kansas City. But whatever, he got ripped all right, and that's the important part.
And welcome back Scotty. Be good to see what you can do with a team with some offense this time.
Posted by: iowa twinkie at July 11, 2006 02:59 PMDear Ms. Twinkie,
It's the Strib, I just posted the link.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
Good I missed Nutty Oh, and Baker.

Will Nutty still be French for the 2nd half of the season?

Italian World Cup fan
Maybe Carlos pitched for Toronto on Saturday night and got ripped again by Kansas City. Wait -- Toronto won that game. nevermind.
Posted by: k-bro at July 11, 2006 03:48 PMTake it easy on the author of the article, Hollywood Pat Reusse. He's had a hard time since getting off the sauce a few years back.
Posted by: Steve Simpson at July 11, 2006 04:01 PMThanks BG, but I'm a Mr. ;) I haven't been mistaken for a Ms. since that time in Boys Town after a Cubs game when... well, nevermind.
(Perhaps my handle is misleading, from now on I'll just go by Iowa.)
Posted by: iowa twinkie at July 11, 2006 04:34 PMfor all you El Presidente fans

Dear defense,
This time, when Baker/Nutty are pitching... catch the stupid ball. He can't strike out everyone he faces. He's not Liriano. He's good, but not *that* good.

Posted by: neutrino boi at July 11, 2006 05:12 PMHopefully Baker will actually get to make a start each time through the rotation.
Posted by: Torhu at July 11, 2006 05:27 PMOh Good! I like Baker! I've kinda missed baby face.
Posted by: Twinsboy at July 11, 2006 06:15 PMCal: Oh, so thats what the ladies mean when they say El Presidente is hot. Starting to understand BG's firetruck post awhile back...
Posted by: TwinsFoghorn at July 11, 2006 06:48 PMDear Cal, thanks for the link, but next time, please give some kind of warning. (And yes, Foghorn, that is exactly what the ladies, and lots of the men, are referring to when we say Johan is "hot.")
I ask you, has anyone ever seen hotter? I mean, really? Ever?
Posted by: Dee at July 11, 2006 07:07 PMDee: Is the warning so you can see El Presidente of Hottness more quickly or so can avoid burn? :)
Posted by: cal at July 11, 2006 07:23 PMIf the AL wins, does a BOD go to Mauer, Liriano or Santana?
Posted by: Eric at July 11, 2006 07:28 PMCal, I looked at that pic, and my keyboard melted.
Posted by: CarrieICL at July 11, 2006 08:41 PMEEEeee! Joe's playing now in the 5th. *crosses fingers for Santana to come out*
Posted by: Newton at July 11, 2006 09:09 PMWhen Ozzie said he is going to manage like it's the World Series, I hope he means it.
1 run from this many incredible hitters?
Posted by: Eric at July 11, 2006 09:58 PMSo glad Joe and Jo got to play together. Nice link, Cal. Johan Santana esta en fuego.
Posted by: Erin at July 11, 2006 11:05 PMwell DAAAYUMMMM Cal... that certainly was something I am glad to say I saw before bed instead of at work!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at July 11, 2006 11:08 PMI, for one, am quite pleased with this turn of events.
Posted by: JustBeth at July 12, 2006 11:21 AMI'm a little disheartened to see Gardy do to the rotation what he's always - until recently - done with the line-up: Screw with it left and right, preventing anybody from getting into a rhythm.
For &*$K's sake, just let these guys play. They'll figure it out.
Posted by: haplo at July 12, 2006 06:07 PMOK, WOW, *fans self* LOVE THAT PIC!
Posted by: Twin-X at July 12, 2006 06:14 PMI look forward to reading Nutty's travel log ....
