From the Strib:
Torii Hunter flew home to Texas following the Twins' game in Milwaukee on Sunday, allowing him to watch his two sons play a Little League game for the first time in two years. It was quite a treat. Torii Jr. pitched a no-hitter in a four- inning game, and Monshadrik hit a homer, a double and had three RBI.

Mr. Baseball wishes he'd named his spawn Monshadrik. Well, kind of.
I read that article as well and admit I, too, wondered if maybe we could get them ready to go by 2010 perhaps.
Of course, the cynical side of me also wondered whether they don't play baseball in July and August in Texas, because Torii certainly had some time on his hands last summer.

Hey! A starter!
Posted by: CarrieICL at May 24, 2006 10:35 AMDear Mr. Crikket,
As a mother of boys in youth baseball, I can tell you that the youngsters are generally finished by mid July.

Posted by: k-bro at May 24, 2006 10:44 AMk-bro, I coached my son's teams well in to August when he was a teenager and my friends in Texas keep telling me they play year round down there so I figured they would have been playing while Torii was recuperating. In any event, I'm sure his kids were thrilled to have dad there for a game on Monday. The kids of these athletes get obviously have a lot of advantages that other kids don't have (starting with the genes!), but they also get shortchanged on some things that others take for granted... like having dad watch them pitch a no-hitter or hit a HR. It speaks well of Hunter that he made the extra effort to fly home for a day to see those games.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 24, 2006 11:06 AMTorii's son is named Monshadrik? What, Sacheverell wasn't available?
Posted by: Jeff A at May 24, 2006 01:29 PMA no hitter? Let's trade Silva for him!! Maybe we could throw in Rondell for Monshadrik too?
Posted by: Twinsboy at May 24, 2006 02:34 PMdoes anyone kno how old the kids are?
Posted by: katie at May 24, 2006 03:32 PMAccording to an article published in June 2005, they were 10 (Torii, Jr.) and 9 (Monshadrik) at that time
Posted by: Word Smith at May 24, 2006 04:54 PMThere is no I in Monshadrik, well, hardly.
Posted by: al at May 24, 2006 05:33 PMcan either of them play 3rd base?
Posted by: TeeNutts at May 24, 2006 06:20 PMA homer, double, and 3 RBI? Who cares if he can play 3rd base. We need a DH that can actually hit.
Posted by: Benny at May 24, 2006 09:09 PMRumor has it Radke and Ford are very nervous about this development...
Even Torii's kids do not fear Captain Cheeseburger
