Ah, well, this isn't easy, and BG was all set to give this to the Veep because, well, HELLO! But we've had a lot of trouble converting this year and sometimes you just need someone to do the right thing at the right time because, you know, when that happens you score runs and sometimes even more runs than the other team which allows you to win the game which makes Batgirl happy, like for instance hitting a perfect sac fly in the tenth to score the winning run, which had the added benefit of allowing BG to go home because she was getting ever so sleepy but was not going to leave that game one second before it ended plus who the heck was going to pitch the next inning, I ask you? That's why you, Dr. Morneau, are the Boyfriend of the Day.

Readers/The Field: 6; Batbaby/Torii: 5; Goober/ Dr. Morneau 4, Sooz/Stewie 2; Batgirl/Chairman 2; Jeb/Lewwww 1.

Posted by: neutrino boi at May 23, 2006 11:17 PMhooray for the good Doctor!
and yahoo for Torii's third walk of the game, and Cuddy getting him to third to set up the Doc for the sac fly!
at the top of the 10th, I leaned over to JustBeth and asked how long she thought we'd be at the Dome tonight, and I'm glad the correct answer was "the bottom of the 10th."
thanks, Doc!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 23, 2006 11:34 PMFrom my primo seat 3 rows behind the bullpen, I can tell you that Jesse was going to pitch the next inning. Instead, how about we all go home now, because most of us have to work tomorrow. Hooray for the Doctor!
P.S. Nathan was awesome.
Posted by: Word Smith at May 23, 2006 11:37 PMThe Doctor was great tonight, and a walk-off sac fly is very, very cool in a Connie Mack old-school kind of way. Cuddy, though, must be up late tonight wondering what he has to do to get some BOD love. Also, reluctant credit to Gardy for not leaving quite as many bullets in the gun tonight, especially with the Travishafner and his ilk on the loose. The Travishafner and his ilk must be dealt with in the most severe manner possible, with extreme prejudice, by making them bat against Santana and Nathan on the same night.
I was thinking it would be McDimples for sure, too. The Doctor's sac fly only worked because Cuddy got Torii to third right before that.
I'd probably give an "honorable mention" to Torii. I mean... did someone steal his bats or something? That's about the only way I could have imagined him having the patience to be walked 3 times in one game.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 24, 2006 08:48 AMWonder Mom said it should be a tie between the Good Doctor and DJ Cuddles -I would have picked DJ Cuddles -
Oh heck I was happy we won =)
Much Love
Wonder Woman
JimCrikket, Torii now leads the team in walks.
amazing, isn't it?!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 24, 2006 10:18 AMI have 3 questions--
1. What does Cuddles have to do to get a BOD--a 2run homerun and only hit in the winning 10th inning is not enough??
2. Why did Eric Wedge pitch to the good doc instead of filling the open base and pitching to Rondell who is below the Mendoza line??
3. Why has nobody mentioned Juan Castro (GTX) who made a couple of key defensive plays and opened the scoring with a 2 run double??
DAM
p.s. yes the good Doc got a key hit and Nathan was awesome but so were GTX and Cuddles...
Congratulations, Doc. I was sitting next to kafumbly, exhausted and knowing I had to get up early for work. Thank you for sending me home as early as possible.
But much honor goes to the sizzling Nathan, GTX, and, most imporantly, my boyfriend, Cuddles. Thanks for the fun, guys!
Posted by: JustBeth at May 24, 2006 10:36 AMkafumbly, I wasn't aware that Torii led the team in that particular category. It is truly amazing. I also would venture to say that his increased selectivity at the plate has played no small role in his BA also trending sharply upward in May.
DAM, I wondered about possibly walking the doc intentionally as well. I was just glad Cuddles stayed put at first base because they certainly would have given him second without contesting it and that would have made the intentional pass a no-brainer. I suppose the thinking was that White's been hitting the ball pretty hard and he might have been just as likely to hit a deep sac fly as the doc was... and loading the bases means they couldn't pitch too carefully to White because a walk ends the game too.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 24, 2006 10:50 AMI have to agree with Jim. Hunter drew three walks, all of which became runs (with the 3rd being the WINNING run) ;)
But yeah, Doc did a great job of doing what needed to be done. I don't know how many times we've left a guy on third after getting him there with 1 or fewer outs.
Posted by: Torhu at May 24, 2006 11:48 AMApparently Cuddles was so distraught at losing out on BOD last night that he has decided to demonstrate just how bad he can be if his efforts are not properly appreciated. A throwing error and a strike-out-looking with 2 men in scoring position, in the first inning alone.
Hopefully his "protest" will be limited to the one-inning variety.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 24, 2006 12:36 PMJimCrikket,
Cuddy is doing much better handling major league pitchers this year. He still has to learn how to factor in major league umpires, though. That is, when you aren't known around the league as a great hitter yet and someone of Sabathia's caliber and reputation throws a 2-out, 2-2 breaking ball anywhere in the general vicinity of the corner, with 2 RISP, you really ought to be swinging that bat, because the ump just isn't going to give you the call.
twayn, since I'm at the office and not at my local sports bar, I'm only able to follow the game on GameDay. Thus I have no idea whether a called strike was a good call or not. But I agree totally with your last sentence. In fact, I would say that would apply equally regardless of who the hitter or pitcher is. In that situation, you've got to be getting in your cuts.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 24, 2006 01:55 PMCuddie should have goten it,
But nice work Dr.
Who put Leonard DiCaprio's head on that Doctor's body and why? And, who knew that Leo was Twins fan?

Were you sitting in section 113, right next to the milk jug? With all those screaming boys who consumed endless amounts of sugar readily supplied by their fathers, who sat a good 10 seats away, and who seemed tempted to throw their gloves at the milk jug, just to see it light up? I was in that section (the girl in the Nathan t-shirt), and thought the view looked the same as Legovision on May 4th. Sorry I didn't say hi. (If it was you. If it wasn't, I'm glad I didn't say hi - that could have been a bit awkward.)
