Twins Press Release:
The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have optioned righthanded pitcher Kyle Lohse to Rochester (AAA, International League). In eight starts this season, Lohse was 2-4, 8.92 (38.1 ip, 38 er), allowing 57 hits with 19 walks and 24 strikeouts.
To replace Lohse on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled righthanded pitcher Boof Bonser from Rochester. In eight starts with the Red Wings, Bonser was 3-2, 2.01
(49.1 ip, 11 er), allowing 33 hits with 20 walks and 47 strikeouts. Bonser will meet the team in Milwaukee on Friday and is scheduled to make his Major League debut as the starting
pitcher on Sunday.
BG sure doesn't want to be Gardy's door right now. Poor Kyle. Here's hoping he can fix what ails him. Meanwhile--let the Boof Bonser era begin!
Thanks to infield for the scoop.
I'm not sad about this one. He needs to get a grip. His behavior reminds me of a 15-year-old's snit. With apologies to all 15-year-olds.
Posted by: Eileen S. at May 17, 2006 03:31 PMwhoa.good, but whoa.
Posted by: aurora at May 17, 2006 03:34 PMSeeya Lyle! Don't let Gardy's door hit you back in the butt on the way out!
Posted by: aussie at May 17, 2006 03:36 PMWow. I never thought I'd actually see it happen. I'm in shock right now.
Posted by: Rach at May 17, 2006 03:40 PMAwesome.
What's the worst that can happen? Bonser sucks as bad as Lohse? As long as he's not a twit about it, we're already ahead on the deal.
Somehow, I doubt that Bonser will put up an 8.92 era, though. You'd almost have to be trying to do that.
Posted by: Will at May 17, 2006 03:42 PMHopefully AAA will make him realize he's not invincible. Good luck down there Kyle. An attitude adjustment seems like it is in order. Bring on the Boof!
Posted by: ForMorneau at May 17, 2006 03:46 PMWhoa.
My only fear here is that Boof will be jostled too hard, which can happen when you bring up green guys in a stressful situation. They collapse like souflees, and can never be recovered.
In the short term sense, though, it would be hard for him to do worse than Lohse (who did well yesterday aside from that horrific inning -- I kinda feel bad for the guy). Here's hoping.
Posted by: CarrieICL at May 17, 2006 03:46 PMPlease ignore my atrocious spelling of "souffle". I'll be crawling into a hole and dying now.
Posted by: CarrieICL at May 17, 2006 03:49 PMHard to argue with this move. The guys who were supposed to be so damn good have not performed after 6 weeks. Bring in someone who has at least had some success at SOME level this season.
And if Baker continues to struggle, don't hesitate to send him back East again as well. (Though at some point, the Red Wings' season is going to be doomed if the big club keeps sending them pitchers that can't get anyone out.)
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 17, 2006 04:00 PMWow. Just....wow.
Posted by: Candace at May 17, 2006 04:00 PMSometimes 2 pictures are worth 2,000 words. Click on my name to see. Enjoy Rochester, buddy.
Posted by: Mr. Baseball No. 1 at May 17, 2006 04:02 PMWhoo-hoo! :does little dance:
Although... I wonder about two things. One, how will Bert mess up his name? And, second, will BG be using the same title when Matt Moses (3B who is beating the snot out of the AA Eastern League this year) comes up?
Posted by: neutrino boi at May 17, 2006 04:05 PMEileen S., you summed it up well. although i don't think this bodes well for Bartlett to come back up, because i think Gardy and TR will start twitching with too many young players on the roster.
Regardless (not to make you all jealous), I'm going to Milwaukee on Sunday for Bonser's first start.
Posted by: TeeNutts at May 17, 2006 04:12 PMBoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof!
Seriously, isn't "Boof Bonser" just about the best name in baseball?
Posted by: ctate at May 17, 2006 04:13 PMBest news I have heard all year. This just made my day, for reals.
Posted by: Big Nick at May 17, 2006 04:30 PMThe boof train is now boarding. Rochester to Milwaukee. ALL ABOARD!!
Posted by: Brundlefly at May 17, 2006 04:34 PMWho needs a stadium with a roof when we've got Boof?
Boof da!
Posted by: The Commish at May 17, 2006 04:34 PMWhat a great week for Batgirl! First Dennys, now Boof. Nutty better watch out - I bet he's feeling that hot breath on his neck...
Posted by: Eileen at May 17, 2006 04:35 PMAnd so begins the start of the Twins rebuilding program.
Are you Boofing kidding me? Don't get me wrong this is the best boofing idea the Twins have had with Loshe but they should have boofing traded him for a bag of peanuts and a ball boy to be named later during the offseason instead of paying him boofing millions.
I think Boof will be ok, like Scott Baker ok which is better than Chacaron ok but not Cisco ok.
I'm now getting ready for July. When we will see Kubel in left and Ford in Center and Cuddles in Right. Maybe Kubel can DH sometimes as well.
Maybe Tiffee can come up and play some third.
Remember National Lampoons vacation when Daddy Griswald accidently knocks over the first stone at stonehenge?
I think today the Twins front office should gives us that same funny face and say oops.
Posted by: cal at May 17, 2006 04:38 PMThat would be OWNED with a capital EVERYTHING!
Posted by: Torhu at May 17, 2006 04:46 PMclick the name for your first picture of Boof...
Posted by: Mark at May 17, 2006 05:28 PMBoof - Pitch Bueno for us!
Posted by: Jaguar at May 17, 2006 05:40 PMWow. Given the circumstances I guess this is good news. But let's not get too jumpy with the idea of the Rochester twins. The moves made this week give the team a better chance to win now and later. I'm not sure how many more of those moves we have available.
Posted by: Bob at May 17, 2006 05:52 PMAll I can say is "It's about freakin' time!!"
Cya Lyle. Thanks for leavin'!
- Freez
P.S. - I wonder if TR is taping Matt Garza's stats in Bradke's locker these days. ;)
There's a soft spot in my heart for Kyle since he was so nice when I met him at spring training, but something needed to be done. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for him and everyone. I really hope he kicks some AAArse and works it out. That said .... BOOOOOOOOOF!
Posted by: Christy at May 17, 2006 06:11 PMThe boof...the boof...the boof is on fire! We don't need no water...
...I'm done.
Posted by: Torhu at May 17, 2006 06:20 PMThis means all relevant parties in the AJ trade are at the Major League level. Beers up for TR making another non-suck deal.
Posted by: TD at May 17, 2006 06:52 PMWith all due respect to those that like Kyle, I'm glad he is out and I hope he doesn't come back.
I'm not sure how Boof (that is a great name) is going to do but I would rather take my lumps with someone I get behind than see Kyle and his bad attitude out there every 5th day.
Kyle has no Twins-iness, I don't think he ever did. I hope Boof is full of Twins-iness goodness.
Boof, tire esa pelota bueno, tenemos que ganar vastante partidos para tener un beno ano, por favor Boof tu eres mi ultimo esperanza.
or Boof pitch bueno
Adios
Vamos Twins!
All right for Boof. Really all right for at least doing something about Kyle. Here's hoping Boof ends up back in AAA in a couple weeks when Radke and Silva get their heads together.
OK, that's a joke. What I really want to know is, what's Marnie Gellner doing fishing when we need her in the rotation?

Dear Mr. Frez,
You just stole Thursday's entry...
Crossly,
BG
I hate you, I hate you all!!!!! I'm going to talk to the voices in my head now!:( This is almost as bad as when Boston traded Bronson Arroyo.
Posted by: Mel at May 17, 2006 10:36 PMYou know what this is worse then the Red Sox trading Bronson Arroyo and it sucks!!!!!!! By the way I'll be booing Boof on Sunday in Milwaukee!
Posted by: Mel at May 17, 2006 10:41 PMThat is the best name!!! I always liked it.
And please do well Radki we need at least 2 of you (familiar faces) out there, not that I don't like newbes, just as long as they can pitch.
I'm saddened by the news ....
I grew up in Rochester & have been a Red Wings fan for as long as I've been a Twins fan.
Couldn't we option him to some other Triple-A club????
Like the Auto Club?
Posted by: BD at May 18, 2006 06:47 AMYou know, I get how Kyle needs some time to go "adjust himself" and all. I just would like to see Shaggy (well, not so much since his haircut) Guerrier get a chance to start. I think he's earned it.
k-bro
Posted by: k-bro at May 18, 2006 08:05 AM*sigh* I'm sad about this. Not because it shouldn't have happened, but just because I've always liked Kyle. If only he can settle himself down emotionally, I think he'll be okay.
From the article about Kyle's last start:
"A couple of hits there in the third inning, and he starts overthrowing," Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said in frustration. "I've always stressed to these guys, when things start happening, you back off and keep yourself under control and keep making your pitches.
"I keep telling 'em, 'You're one pitch away.' "
***
Please, Scott and Bradke, be your usual selves. I can't take much more of this.
Boof?
The Boofer?
Boofski?
Booferino?
Boofanello?
Booferez?
Boooooooooooooof....ok yea, he can be a Twin.
