B.O.D.

Oh, hell, I don't know. Being a BODSHC isn't all glory, you know, all huzzahs and hosannahs. There's real work involved. And stress, too, you can't imagine the stress. Like today. BG was all set to give it to Johan, who is the boyfriend of every day, but his eighth inning got a little wobbly. And then there's Castillo for his 2 RBIs and a great day at the plate. And then there's the Royal defense for doing the things they do so well. This was a game where everyone did well (except maybe Little Nicky, but it's hard to be a tiny superhero every day. And so Batgirl begins at the beginning, a very good place to start, and finds at the top of the order Shannon Stewart, at 3 for 4 with a walk, one run, and no one left on base. And things have been hard, they really have, and that whole getting-on-base-four-times-in-a-game and not-leaving-anyone-on and all are behaviors BG wants to reward, plus he just had a baby, plus Sooz is getting kind of cranky with Batgirl and no one wants that, and that makes Shannon Stewart the Boyfriend of the Day.

Batbaby/Torii: 3; Readers/The Field: 3; Goober/Justin: 1; Jeb/Lewwww 1, Sooz/Stewie 1, Batgirl/JoeJoe 0

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!

Rules clarification--I know we're not allowed to question the judgment of the BODSHC on the BOD itself, and a fine choice as always; but are we allowed to wonder aloud why a particular player wasn't even mentioned in the blurb when they went, say, three-for-four with a homer? :)

Most Respectfully,
Bill

It's nice to see that there is a BOD. Definitely been a lack of them as of late.

Posted by: Stacy at April 27, 2006 05:53 PM

What Stacy said. That we even have a BOTD is enough for me right now. It could be Scotty Ulger or TC Bear or that magic number guy and I wouldn't complain.

Hey, whatever happened to that magic number guy?

I got yer back, BillP. I know the rules, and Stewie is certainly a worthy BOD, but can we have a tip of the hat, a word of encouragement, a little pinch of the dimples, for the man who was just a mere triple short of the cycle this afternoon?

You go, Cuddy Bear.

Posted by: frightwig at April 27, 2006 07:50 PM

Myself, I would be too timid to question the BODSHC in any way. My friend's cousin's sister's boyfriend's roommate did that once and he disappeared for weeks and when he returned he would only stay in his room and whimper quietly... so in a way he was the ideal roommate.

But anyway,
Former Twins in the News:

Right in the middle of the Delmon Young maelstrom is our favorite ex-third string catcher Corky "Corky" Miller!

Um, TC Bear with me, I forgot what I was gonna say. Oh, well, I concurr in the decision against Santana. After all, he was up against the Royals, and the bar must be set high for him to earn BOD when facing these jock wastes.

Oh, yeah, I remember...

JoeJoe, wtf? Zero BODs on the year is unbecoming. I know you didn't play today but the BOD line score sorta surprised me. Eh, who cares, you and your Twins won today! Poor use of time for me to kvetch. So...

Aight, Twins! And congrats, Stew. You, too, Cuddy. To everyone else, tomorrow's BOD chase starts anew. Gaughgeddim.

Shaken, and then some,
jim

May the record further reflect that Cuddles also stole a base today, in addition to his single/double/homer and walk, RBI, and 2 runs scored. OK. Selah.

Dear Misters Wig and P,

You're absolutely right, and Batgirl meant to mention him, but she totally forgot. Three cheers for Senior Dimples, prospective Boyfriend of the Day!

Sincerely,
Batgirl

I'd of gone with Cuddy too, but how nice to have to make a decision. I just hope Cuddy gets another chance within the next week.

yay Stewie! it makes me happy when guys are not left on base.

and by that, I mean, men are not left on base because they've been driven in, not because there wasn't anyone on base to begin with.

Man. I WATCHED those errors. Not. Pretty.

Yay for MLB.com.

And yay for the Twins!

ETA:

Note that Mientkiewicz was not playing today.

He's their only hope.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2006 12:56 AM

I was at the game in KC this afternoon, and I was more than excited that I didn't have to sit through any Batista or Castro at bats. It was unfortunate that Mauer had the day off, but Santana pitching made everything better.

DJ Cuddles, nonotherthan the CuddyBear was the MVP of this contest. He absolutely pissed on that double and homer he hit. Why are we wasting at bats on Batista again? We've got two better options in Cuddyer (offensively and defensively) and L-Rod (defensively... he played 3rd today and made three nifty plays)... But I hate thinking about that, and Bartlett down in AAA for whatever reason, b/c it takes away from the glorious day I had at the ballpark.

Also, I'll go on the record as someone actually being there that the Royals SHOULD have had 4 E's today. Castillo beat a pitch down into the ground as he's very good at doing, but this one went to 1st base and Graffanino made a nifty jump-snag of it. All he has to do is jog to the base and step on it. Too bad for Graf, he dropped the ball while trying to toss it to the pitcher covering, then picked it up intending on just racing to the base himself and dropped it AGAIN. The big scoreboard had "AWAITING OFFICIAL SCORING" up for the next two batters until they finally called it a hit. It was NOT a hit, as much as I like Castillo. Went to the game with my pops and a couple other Twins fans and we couldn't believe it.

NY-Brian:
A large part of me thinks that Mientkiewicz may also be the Cubs' only hope, as in, if we can trade for him and thus have an actual, y'know, first baseman playing first base.

Also, I noticed in a thread about the White Sox series that one of us Batlings went to Cominsky, and developed a need for an outdoor park -- all I have to say is, if you liked that, just come out to WRIGLEY some day!

Posted by: PsyMar at April 28, 2006 07:34 AM

You managed to point out LNP's bad day, but Torii only dreams of sucking as little as LNP did...

Posted by: dlarso01 at April 28, 2006 07:44 AM

PsyMar--

The Cubs already have Walker, Jones, Blanco, and Restovich. How many former Twins do you want on that team? I mean, it's nice that these guys have some place to go when the Twins are through with them, but add Mientkiewicz and they might turn into Foster's Home for Imaginary Twins.

Dear Mr/Ms 01,

Oh yeah, I forgot that, too.

Sigh,
Batgirl
