SG at YankeeFan Blog (not OUR YankeeFan, alas) crunches the numbers and finds that the TWINS WILL HAVE ULTIMATE VICTORY in 2006! ULTIMATE VICTORY IS OURS!
Posted by Batgirl at March 22, 2006 08:11 AMTHE TWINS WIN THE PENNANT!
Posted by: Jeb at March 22, 2006 08:21 AMDid Gardy make a deal with the devil? The Twins' "runs against" number in that projection is a league-best 666 ...
*chill runs down spine*

Posted by: talldrinkowater at March 22, 2006 09:36 AMFrom his computer to god's ear I guess.
It would be sweet to see Hunter lead the Twins to the WS. The doctor maybe pulling someone off 1B, and Little Nicky Punto hitting a dying quail into shallow LF for the winning run.
TWINS WIN! TWINS WIN!
Yup, that doesn't sound too bad at all.
Posted by: caluofmn at March 22, 2006 10:09 AMDo we have to play the season out, or do you think the rest of the Central teams will concede? If we don't have to play the regular season out we could be spared the possibility of injuries. Plus, Johan's and the Jackal's arms would be fresh for the postseason.
Posted by: Jeb at March 22, 2006 10:25 AMYeah, I say let's go straight to October. Although I'll miss getting to see the boys play a few times this year, I'm willing to make that sacrifice in order to see the Twins hoist another World Series Champions banner. (Large of me, eh?)
The next best thing about these statistical things is that most of them seem to have the White Sox in third - that would bring me very great joy, indeed.
Posted by: adidasman at March 22, 2006 11:27 AMLast year's team-projections listed the Twins as champions by an even larger margin (and the Bitch Sox at 79-83). Unfortunately, last season was actually played and I suspect this one will be as well.
Posted by: neutrino boi at March 22, 2006 11:37 AMYou have to suspect any simulation in which at any point the Royals win the division.
Posted by: Word Smith at March 22, 2006 12:13 PMI know that spring time brings out the optimist in me, butI think these sims reinforce my reason for being optimistic this year.
I ask simply... if the roster changes that have taken place over the course of the offseason (including regaining a healthy Torii) had magically occurred at the trading deadline last July, do you think the Twins would have been likely to challenge the BitchSox down the stretch. I happen to think so.
Posted by: JimCrikket at March 22, 2006 01:14 PMWhew! Now with the suspense out of the way I can just relax and enjoy the season as it unfolds. I'll have to start looking for airfare back home in October.
Posted by: sacky at March 22, 2006 01:25 PMDoes that mean that there will be a Oh 6 ! musical after all ?
Posted by: public enemy mike at March 22, 2006 02:48 PMI am delighted to be thought of as *your* YankeeFan. But dedicated observers would not have wondered. This imposter would never have said "Minnesota seems kind of high to me. I'd put them behind Cleveland and the White Sox."
In any event, I look forward to another postseason matchup between the Twins and the Yanks -- though the thought of your pitching against a powerful lineup with definite questions with respect to "clutch hitting" characteristics really scares me. We'll fret that bridge when we come to it, I guess.
In the meantime, I am glad there is much to be excited about, as always, and I look forward to an exciting baseball season, like last year's.
Best of luck and warmest regards,
YankeeFan
Mauer hits the game winning homerun yep sounds good
Posted by: mrsmauer at March 22, 2006 03:50 PMJust poking my head in..... and to set the record straight.
Hrbek did NOT pull anyone off the bag! The player CLEARLY lost his balance when the air conditioning system was suddenly turned on!
Seeing all those reruns of the World Series from 87 and 91 really have made me ready for another one!
It is clearly a farce, or a sign from the devil. Note the projection of 666 runs against for the Twins!
sorry. all credit to T.C. Rafters for the Number o' the Beast observation.

Posted by: YankeeMon at March 22, 2006 08:25 PMAlso noted in those simulations: your 2006 National League East winner--the Phightin' Phils.
Oh baby.
Posted by: jeffstoned at March 22, 2006 10:34 PMIndeed, but the larger question is when do we get real ultimate power?
Posted by: Mike at March 23, 2006 05:42 AMWell, now that I know how it ends, there's no point in watching baseball this season.
(pouts)
Posted by: Kurtis at March 23, 2006 05:50 AMNo point?! No point?!!! Help, Batgirl! Kurtis has fallen under the spell of the Steinbrenner, where baseball is not purity, poetry, and the inexorable march toward goodness, but is instead, merely about "winning". The fact that the Twins win in the end is only the final morally right capstone to the baseball season, the proper and fitting final piece. The drama still exists in the sitting down of bitches, the stealing of would-be homeruns, and the sharing of sideburns with children!

Posted by: Glove Boy at March 23, 2006 06:57 AMWow, that is some hardcore stuff. All they need to do now is pitch, hit, and field the ball and we are in!
P.S. Per the last entry -- XM Satellite Radio's morning baseball show with Buck Martinez and Orestes Destrade spent a good deal of time today talking about the Bitch Sox bullpen woes.
Evidently, Jenks' velocity is way down and he can't find the plate, Hermanson's back is still bad, and they may have to use Neil Cotts as a closer if Jenks doesn't get it together.
Posted by: funoka at March 23, 2006 08:12 AMBut at least Buehrle has his soul back. Maybe.
Posted by: expatriate at March 23, 2006 10:27 AMAs I am one in believing in jinxing.....careful with what you say : )
Posted by: Megan at March 23, 2006 04:56 PMI love math. It's kind of my life. So things like this always intrigue me. A couple quick observations:
-Overall a 50-50 playoff chance for the twins doesn't seem ridiculous. But I think most people on this site think we have a better chance of making the playoffs than that. What I like is it seems we have a better chance of making the playoffs than our competition.
-I'm personally thinking that the wild card has a good chance of coming from the AL Central. With that in mind, does anyone else think our entire division seems underrated?
-These rankings did not treat the Chisox kindly. It's all those one run games they won last year. Let's hope the season doesn't treat them kindly either.
-This is the ultimate moneyball type of thing. As such, Billy Beane's A's are going to do remarkably well. So are the Dodgers, since Paul Deposta's stamp is still on the team. If anyone is wondering why those teams did so well, those guys probably run such simulations before they make any moves.
Posted by: Bob at March 23, 2006 05:57 PMI notice that the computer's "Runs For" prediction for the Twins is still second-lowest in the division, though. (And tied for 3rd-lowest in the AL!) Sigh.
