BatQuandry the Third

A farmer needs to get Batgirl, Johan Santana, and George Steinbrenner across a river. He has a small boat and can only take one person at a time. But he needs to be careful. If he leaves Johan alone with Steinbrenner, Steinbrenner will try to sign him. If he leaves Steinbrenner alone with Batgirl, she'll unleash a furious ninja attack.

How does he get all these people across the river in his boat?

Make Steinbrenner buy him a bigger boat...

Posted by: goesboom at February 3, 2006 09:33 AM

Since I'm sure Johan floats Batgirl's boat, they can cross together thus negating the need for that old farmer anyway.

Posted by: mn.minx at February 3, 2006 09:35 AM

Take Steinbrenner across first. Take Johan across, bringing Steinbrenner back on the return trip. Take Batgirl over, then finally re-take Steinbrenner over.

What I want to know is what's happening while Batgirl and Johan are together.

Posted by: gff at February 3, 2006 09:45 AM

We the third part of this equation: If he leaves Batgirl alone with Johan, they'll totally make out.

Posted by: Roscoe at February 3, 2006 10:04 AM

"We forgot the third part," that is.

Posted by: Roscoe at February 3, 2006 10:05 AM

Take Johan first. Who cares what happens to Steinbrenner? ;)

Posted by: Torhu at February 3, 2006 10:16 AM

Dear Roscoe,

Somehow I don't think she'd mind...

Posted by: bubblemint at February 3, 2006 10:36 AM

remember whatever happens there is nothing that could be done about it, they all will act as their nature dictates.

Posted by: caluofmn at February 3, 2006 10:36 AM

Clearly, that was BG's plan all along. She's a sly one.

Posted by: JimCrikket at February 3, 2006 10:50 AM

Leave the farmer with Steinbrenner. Johan and Batgirl can go across together. Steinbrenner is on his own.

Posted by: Ellen at February 3, 2006 11:05 AM

And what's the downside of Batgirl opening up a six pack of furious ninja attack whoopass on Steinbrenner again?

Posted by: Me at February 3, 2006 11:58 AM

Besides, George made his money in shipping. He can get his own $*#& boat ride.

Posted by: Me at February 3, 2006 11:59 AM

It seems like we can still ask questions of our esteemed leader batgirl so I have one.

Why is it that the Wild and Timberwolves have free wallpapers for our Pc's on their sites but the Twins don't?

I'd love to have a Twins wallpaper every month during the season like I do during hockey season. Help me batgirl, you're my only hope.

Posted by: caluofmn at February 3, 2006 12:02 PM

Sorry - this has nothing to do with this but it's a little something from JJ on the Superbowl his honest opinion about Seattle made me smile:

JACQUE JONES
Chicago Cubs outfielder (That's weird to see)
Winner: Steelers
Score: 27-10
MVP: Ben Roethlisberger
Why they will win: They are playing great right now and they seem like the hungriest team. Plus I don't think Seattle is all that good to begin with.
Who I'm rooting for: Pittsburgh Steelers. I just don't like the Seahawks, so the Steelers are my only other alternative.

WW

Posted by: Wonder Woman at February 3, 2006 12:50 PM

That's some fantastic reasoning there from Mr. Jones. And to think, I was in favor of him coming to play in Seattle.

ah well.

GO HAWKS!

Posted by: jenninseattle at February 3, 2006 01:23 PM

I'm with others in this post who recognize that (a) there is a way to get everyone across without incident, and (b) who cares, I want to see BatGirl open up a can of Crazy Go Nuts on Steinbrenner.

Mmm, I love Crazy Go Nuts.

Posted by: sacky at February 3, 2006 01:34 PM

The answer is: George will buy the farm, critize the farmer for not growing enough corn and only winning the regional crow growing title, Fire the tractor and sign John Deere to a 6 year 70 million dollar contract. He will also trade George Costanza and Carl Pavano to the Twins for Batgirl and Johan.

Batgirl will then blog about Hottest Chick Yankees (my money is on Arod), and champion the cause to get Donnny Baseball and Goose into the hall. Johan will then make the entire city of Boston to "sit down Boston Bitches" and become best friends with Jeter.

Posted by: public enemy mike at February 3, 2006 01:51 PM

Ok, so who is this farmer, and why is he able to prevent BG from attacking Satan or Satan from trying to proposition Santana?

And wouldn't Santana be able to resist Satan's evil ways?

Posted by: NY-Brian at February 3, 2006 01:53 PM

caluofmn-

I would be glad to offer my graphical services for your twins wallpaper needs.

I happen to have a high quality, high res wallpaper I made of our good Chairman Mauer available, but I didn't want to post it out of respect for BG's wishes for these threads to remain on topic. (It's actually one of my favorites: poster-worthy, IMO)

I also have one of Shannon, Joe, Justin and Lew I made last year that was on here I think.

Posted by: Eric at February 3, 2006 02:09 PM

I think everyone's missed the point. The real question is what river are they trying to cross and why do they want to cross it? Is it because a great and beautiful new stadium awaits them on the other side?

Posted by: Annun at February 3, 2006 02:24 PM

Dear Batgirl

I don't mean to get all Dr. Phil on you, but why do you have so much anger towards Mr Steinbrenner ? He hasn't signed away any of your ex players as free agents. He voted against the contraction thing when the league wanted to do that, and he didn't vote for the current rules about signing players. He doesn't let his players wear pixie vests either. All he wants to do is win.

I think you may need search deep inside of yourself and find out what is driving your anger, before you became all Sith like and disfigured, I mean shooting lightning from your hands would be cool, but the wrinkles you wouldn't want those wrinkles.

I think it's time for you to give George a nice bathug and become friends.

p.e.m.

Posted by: public enemy mike at February 3, 2006 03:21 PM

I just want to know why it's a farmer. Shouldn't it be a ferryman? How confident are we that the farmer, presumably not a very experienced riparian, can even get these two high-net-worth individuals, the Boss and El Presidente (plus Batgirl--whose intrinsic worth, of course, is far greater that that of the two rich dudes combined), safely to their destinations?

Posted by: jeffstoned at February 3, 2006 05:02 PM

PEM I think the reason most dislike George he takes advantage of rules that most other sports don't have. He spends more money than any other team and acts like he spending the money that other owners have and they just won't spend it. But the thing is that he owns one of the teams in largest market in the country and most other teams don't have that kind of money. The fact is that the Twins and other teams are loseing money (in fact the twins are loseing about 15 million a year) even after revenue sharing. And the fact that he pays alot of money to freeagents and that drives up the price for other teams (Mets, redsox and the La teams do this too.) which means makes it even harder for small market teams to do well.

Posted by: paul at February 3, 2006 09:27 PM

PS PEM I acutally enjoyed watching the yankee's in the mid 90' when they were a bunch of young kids (home grown) makeing a run at it. for me it was the trade and the gambi moose signing that really go to me. but I had all ready lost my affection for them by that time.

Posted by: paul at February 3, 2006 09:30 PM

Eric,

I really appreciate the offer and would love to get one, some, or any wallpapers you may offer.

As a matter a fact I would be happy to share some photos from games I've attended if you like. I've used these as my wallpapers since the Twins haven't put any out.

They certainly are not poster quality, but I'm happy to share.

Posted by: caluofmn1991 at February 3, 2006 11:47 PM

The farmer takes batgirl across the river in the boat while Johan walks across the water next to them and Steinbrenner drowns chasing after him.

Posted by: Bob at February 4, 2006 12:20 AM

Mike-Is there any person in the yankees organization you'd rather have us take our 'irrational hatred' out on? I mean, look what he did Torre and Cashman the last two years. If he'd spend money and stay out of the spolight, I'm sure he wouldn't bug me so much.

As for Pohlad, he does seem to want the twins in Minnesota. And he has put good people in the right places. But I can't think of anything else nice to say.

Posted by: Bob at February 4, 2006 12:36 AM

FWIW

The Yankees lost money last year between 50 and 85 million. Yep they lost more then probably half of the other teams salary. Carl Pohlad is the richest owner in baseball. I don't think you guys should hate anyone on the yankees, they aren't your rival Chicago is, hate them.

I wish all owners in sport were like Seinbrenner, where they put winning as the most important thing.

He isn't an angel and the stuff with Joe and Cash was a problem but he realised that and took a step back and is going to let them do their job.

The 90s yankees were not all home grown. David Cone, Tino, O'Neil, Scotty, Wells, Boggs Wetland, Straw, Doc, Knobby...... they had Jeter, Posoda, Bernie, Soriano, Andy and Mo that were from the system.

Bob I like your joke the best. Nice Job.

Posted by: public enemy mike at February 4, 2006 01:49 AM

if you want an example of why the yankees play on a different field financially try this. My beloved red sox cap is getting a little worn and I'd like to get a second one (in red and fitted for my very large head). Impossible to get over here, unless you go to the MLB shop where shipping is twice the cost of the thing. But if I go into any sports shop I will see row upon row upon row of Yankees caps. You can buy Yankees bags, Yankees shoes Yankees everything. The people buying and wearing this stuff don't know anything about baseball, certainly aren't Yankee fans in any sense at all. But they like that cool interlocking NY logo so they buy it. Congratulations to the Yankees marketing people but that extra money that's coming in that has nothing to do with baseball that just enables them to spend all this money.

But in answer to the original question you start by drowing George and it all gets a lot easier from there.

I hate George because he's a jerk and I hate the way he rips his players in public. If my boss did that...

But then the prize for treating a future HOF guy who's been with you his entire career, has won you more games and brought in more fans than anyone can even count, has worn his body out playing for you, like a used up piece of meat, goes to the Houston Astros.

Bagwell should walk away from those ingrates, and never come back, no number retiring ceromonies, no Jeff Bagwell night, no Hall of Fame celebration, no ceremonial first pitch, no personal appearences. The loss to the Astros, in pure financial terms not to mention that they look like jerks, is way beyond the 16 million they're trying to save.

sorry had to get that off my chest

D

Posted by: Dan in London at February 4, 2006 02:16 AM

Dan you are right no need to apologize the stro's are treating him like they don't want him.

Posted by: paul at February 4, 2006 03:11 AM

My problem with the Yankess (and really, baseball overall) is the Yankees tv contract. They have a $200ish million tv contract, and can pay their exorbitant payroll before they sell a single ticket or hat. That immediately puts them on a completely different playing field than the Twins (and every other team in baseball) with contracts in the 10-15 mill range. Baseball needs a salary cap re: football. Football's system is great because it gives every team a completely level playing field and the importance is on developing a team, not just throwing money at a team. Just my .02 (million) cents.

Posted by: CubsTwinsSeries at February 4, 2006 11:34 AM

Yeah but football Tv contract is national except for preseason and there might not be a salary cap in football after 2007 because the Players union is pushing hard for it's removeal.

Posted by: paul at February 4, 2006 12:03 PM

I think it's also important to point out that basketball has a salarly/lux tax and bad players still get contracts worthy of a superstar. Mark Blount anyone? 4 years 50 million i think when he was playing with Boston he was getting 5 p and 3 a game.

Posted by: paul at February 4, 2006 12:06 PM

Despite their vocal objections to Steinbrenner's methods, both Torre and Cashman have returned for more "abuse." Oh, and money. So, who is worse? Steinbrenner who has been consistant in his actions based upon his unpopular beliefs, OR Torre/Cashman who both disagree with The Boss but toss principle for profit?

There are no victims here, only volunteers.

As for the inability to find MLB merchandise other than NYY in London, your blame needs targeted closer to home with the Yankee-equivalent, Manchester United, and the merchandising deal struck in 2001 between the two.

Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at February 4, 2006 01:13 PM

Will the Yankee's win a world series in my life time?

Posted by: Six year old yankee fan at February 4, 2006 02:43 PM

I think Bob's idea is pretty genius.

Posted by: Stacy at February 4, 2006 06:31 PM

Not to change the subject too much, but watching L-Rod hit a bases-loaded drive to left to score 2 runs is getting me excited to see some real, live baseball again! (The Caribbean Series doesn't count)

Posted by: Drew at February 4, 2006 09:33 PM

I say that you should take Johan over first and let the cameras capture the furious ninja attack. With the profits from the pay per view we could privately finance our new retractable roof baseball nirvana.

Posted by: SDave at February 5, 2006 11:09 AM

Now don't get me wrong, I hate the Yankees. I always have and I always will. But, isn't part of baseball hating the Yankees? (For non-Yankee fans.) I mean, even though they have given more money to players that the Twins can even dream of offering, they still havn't won a world series for however many years now. Part of baseball is hating the Yankees, and putting a salary cap on the game just doesn't seem right to me.

Posted by: Twinsboy at February 5, 2006 12:55 PM

The reason why there isn't and most likely won't be a salary cap is the Players Unions

Posted by: public enemy mike at February 5, 2006 02:36 PM

Will you declare an Honorary Super Bowl Boyfriend after the game tonight?
