I'm very sorry to hear that. My family has lost loved ones to cancer as well, most recently my Aunt last year, so I make a donation to the American Cancer Society each year at Christmas.
I think I'll make the donation in her name this year. Anyone who wants to do the same can do so at the ACS's site, http://www.cancer.org. Just click the Donate link up top and you can make a memorial gift there.

And thanks for the idea Gendo...that's a very nice gesture and one that I will certainly join you in.

Posted by: SDave at December 19, 2005 10:43 AMIt's always hard for me to read about stuff like this, because I almost lost my mother to breast cancer a couple of years ago. My heart goes out the Roof family.
Posted by: Twinsboy at December 19, 2005 02:51 PMMy condolences to the Roof family. My family also gives to the Cancer Society annually in my grandmother's name.
Posted by: CJF at December 19, 2005 09:32 PMI wish I could say something more profound, but the Roofs just seemed like really nice, decent people, and it just makes me so very sad when we lose someone like that. And it just makes it worse knowing how much she loved Phil and the game. It made me proud that our organization had such people in it, and I was doubly proud when he retired, since baseball (even the Twins) pales in comparison to those we love the most. Wayne Gretzky took a leave of absence from coaching the Coyotes to be with his mom (lung cancer), and she just died tonight as well. In the age of spoiled athletes and teams getting put ahead of everything else we hold dear, it's nice to see one of the nicest (Roof) as well as the best there ever was (Gretzky) remind us that we can do more than simply excel. We can be good.
Best wishes for the Roofs, the Gretzkys, and every other family whose holiday season is going to be that much dimmer this year.
