The Power of Poetry

Dear Bitch Sox,

Last August, Batgirl posted a haiku themed entry. Here was one of the haiku.

FOR ME TO POOP ON

The Herald reported earlier in the week that the f'in &%^kees would be willing to offer a three-year deal to Damon, who hit .316 in 2005, his fourth season in Boston. The Red Sox are said to be targeting Minnesota's Torii Hunter as a trade possibility if they can't strike a deal with Damon.

from yahoo rumors.

Boston has nothing the Twins want except Andy Marte.

Posted by: red at December 9, 2005 12:19 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Whack-o-Mack was one of my favorite Pirates. Bleh. And here I was all happy that the Bucs had gotten super-cutie Sean Casey, too.

Posted by: Deanna at December 9, 2005 03:31 AM

wouldn't the yankees make Damon cut his hair?

Can't see it happening, but that could be my usual wishful thinking

Posted by: dan in london at December 9, 2005 04:50 AM

a little off topic in this thread but...

We can forget about signing Mueller. He signed with the Dodgers. Cant find the report on any of the major sites, but there are a few threads about it on SoSH.

Seth makes speculation
Hunter for Mig Tejada
Please make deal Ryan

Posted by: sbg at December 9, 2005 07:46 AM

Could we even possibly afford Miggy?

And maybe the ECBS traded for Marte with the intent of offering him to us for Torii.

I wouldn't mind that. Although they might have to sweeten the deal a smidge for us to part with a vet...

Posted by: Eric at December 9, 2005 07:50 AM

The Twins play the Pirates next year.

The other league isn't as far away as it used to be.

Glad that one came true!

Silly bat-girl fans
Chicago wanted him gone
Too damn many walks

Damaso was just too unpredictable, he'd sling strike after strike sometimes, but just as often it'd be four balls nowhere near the zone. We already have the Fantastic Neal Cotts from the bullpen as our amazing 7th/8th inning lefty. Kinda wish we had kept Kelly Wunsch, now HE was great fun to watch as a funky-delivering lefty.

Still, it'll be nice having fewer heart seizures this season with Marte gone. And adding a very solid utility bat is always a good thing. He can give pretty much ANY position player a rest on any day.

YUP--I agree with that--Marte went off the deep end last year--not a big threat.

Now--I missed something--when did Bitch Sox trade Marte?? cant find it on web sites--also cant find rumored Muellar signing...

Posted by: ask kleiner at December 9, 2005 09:37 AM

Marte was a shell of his former self. He could be counted on to drill a lefthanded hitter in the back. The Twins were lucky not to have a reliever as unreliable as Marte this year.

Does the end of the winter meetings (mention of which allows me to be slightly on-topic for the first time in months) signify that the offseason is half over?

Dear Sox Fans,

Interesting. He seemed all too reliable against us.

Sincerely,

p.s. YF, I hope so.

Marte v. Twins this year: .167 BA. Pretty good. ERA? 5.40. ERA in Dome? 8.10 (with BA of .300). In 3.1 innings pitching in Minnesota, he allowed three hits (one a homer) and three runs, with 2 walks. That's an OBP of .417 and a SLG of at least .600.

In Chicago, we got no hits in 1.2 innings. Small sample size though.

Last year, he had ERA of 6.14 against the Twins in 7.1 innings, with just one hit and no runs in 4 innings in Minnesota.

HA HA, Batgirl! Now you have to fear ROB MACKOWIAK!!! Fit that in your Haiku pipe and smoke it! What's that, like, 5 syllables? Have fun.

Of course, this Bitch Sox fan would rather have Marte than Mackowiak, but...we'll see.

Posted by: MikeQ at December 9, 2005 12:30 PM

Then again, Da-Ma-So Mar-Te was 5 syllables as well.

Anyhow, Mackowiak makes TIMO PEREZ expendable. Let's write an ode to that.

JC just got traded for some minor league shortstop that played in AA, AAA, And Then, A i don't know what to make of it.

Posted by: paul at December 9, 2005 01:20 PM

Alexi Casilla is his name

Posted by: paul at December 9, 2005 01:20 PM

Thank [insert deity of choice here]! JC is gone. I knew I'd get at least one thing to smile about in the offseason.

neil, fyi, pitchers and catchers report the 19th. a mere 71 days, 10 hours, 10 minutes away.

{also aurora's birthday, fyi]

Posted by: aurora at December 9, 2005 01:49 PM

Romero, he gone.
Marte brought way more in trade.
Ryan, WTF?

Posted by: clemsghostwriter at December 9, 2005 02:52 PM

I would add that lefties had a .267 batting average against Marte in 2005. Of coors, we have RHP's that do better than that. IMHO, too much is made nowadays about the lefty-righty matchups. Just throws some nasty stuff and get the guy out.

But I digest...

Posted by: kojak at December 9, 2005 03:30 PM

There's speculation that Mack's versatility will allow the Sox to carry twelve pitchers- always a luxury. And, a left-handed reliever who struggles (to be kind in Damaso's case) to retire lefthanders is a relatively useless commodity. Frankly, this White Sox fan is happy to see him and his gasoline can walk right out the door. A very nice trade if I do say so myself. The ever-improving Neal Cotts is more than ready take his place.

Neil - October 26 - December 9 is 44 days, not 64.
Might I suggest a new abacus.

BG - Marte or no Marte; Macowiak, Romero...these players aren't enough to come close to closing the vast talent disparity between the White Sox and Twins. It's okay to admit your awe of the Chicago White Sox.
