Hmmmm. Any truth to this one, or is he just making it up? From the NY Daily News:
Twins GM Terry Ryan insisted rumors of Torii Hunter being on the trading block are unfounded. "I'm looking to add offense, not subtract it," Ryan said. In that regard, look for him to sign Nomar Garciaparra to play shortstop.Posted by Batgirl at November 13, 2005 08:28 AM
Great! We need to get some guys with long names again.
Posted by: Ellen at November 13, 2005 09:45 AMOk...that just seems so, um, random. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him. I just can't make the leap in my brain from "we're not trading Torii" to "so we're signing Nomar".
We'll see.

Posted by: k-bro at November 13, 2005 10:03 AMWould Bartlett play second?
Posted by: Paul at November 13, 2005 12:19 PMI wonder how Nomar will feel when he hears all of us Minnesotans actually pronouncing (and perhaps even over-pronouncing) all of the the "R"'s in his name?
Posted by: bubblemint at November 13, 2005 12:59 PMI said earlier in the off season (which sucks btw)that Nomar would be a good fit for your team. All Star player when healthy that you could get at a Pohlad approved price, that actully can help your team. Now what happens to NPTSH ?

Posted by: mike at November 13, 2005 01:08 PMNomar has not been real healthy since his marriage to Mia Hamm--coincidence maybe????
He would not be an improvement over LNP...
Posted by: DC Twins Fan at November 13, 2005 01:39 PMI think if you can get 130-140 games out of Nomar it will be a big help to your team. He will bat around .280. 25-30 hr 110 rbi and he plays above average defense. LNP can play second I would imagine.
Posted by: mike at November 13, 2005 02:26 PMNOMAH!
Posted by: Ryan at November 13, 2005 05:56 PMI would totally buy a "Nomah Is My Boyfriend" t-shirt.
Posted by: Stacy at November 13, 2005 05:59 PMMike - For Nomar to get 110 RBIs he's going to have to have runners on in front of him, something the Twins were sadly unable to do with much regularity this past season. Considering the offense he'll be hitting behind, I'd say he could do about 70-80. LNP would platoon at 2nd with Castro I imagine, the real question is what to do with Bartlett.
I don't see this one happening, personally, but I wouldn't frown on it.
Posted by: Skorch at November 13, 2005 06:00 PM"if" he stays healthy. That's a pretty big "if". I liked the way Bartlett came on toward the end so I'd hate to see him given up on. Maybe Nomar at 3B? Regardless, I don't see him as the "answer" but possibly one part of it. Combine it with a solid DH and you'll start getting my attention.
Posted by: JimCrikket at November 13, 2005 06:01 PMNomar should play second or third if anywhere. Bartlett has some nice, nice (improving) range at SS.
Posted by: Neil at November 13, 2005 09:00 PMThat is, if anything even happens. That sentence in the article looked more like an off-handed comment by a NY sportswriter. Those NY writers cause more rumor havoc than Brad Pitt.
Posted by: Neil at November 13, 2005 09:02 PMI agree with JimCrikket and Neil about playing Nomar at third. Keep Bartlett at short and let Cuddyer, Punto and Castro fight it out for 2nd.
And, I wouldn't mind seeing Mia Hamm make an occasional Metrodome appearance.
However, I doubt the Twins would ever spring for what Garciaparra will cost.
Posted by: BadAndy48 at November 13, 2005 10:46 PMDear Mr. Neil,
Yes, it seems like the writer said, "The Twins need a hitter. Nomar's a hitter! The Twins should sign Nomar!"
Curiously,

Knock knock
Who's there?
Nomar
Nomar, who
Nomar poor fielding shortstops!
He'd be OK at Third, though, for the right price.
Posted by: cmathewson at November 14, 2005 09:54 AMWhy don't we leave LNP on the side of the road somewhere; somewhere far from Mn.? That's whether or not we sign Nomar.
Posted by: al at November 14, 2005 08:31 PMjayson stark just said in his chat on espn (i'd link it but it's insider by now) that the twins and marlins are two teams interested in nomar early. so that's good news or maybe he has just read the article bat girl linked

Posted by: paul at November 15, 2005 11:51 AMI take a pass on Nomar. I am not sure what will he can bring to this table considering his health and all. Plus I sure as heck don't want to see his negative attitude permeate the clubhouse. We already have enough of those guys as it is. I am not even sure if the Twins are even Nomar's first choice anyway so forget him.
