Oops.

Looks like Matty Lawton's been dipping into Batkitty #1's stash.

I just like the fact that he's really the first player to take full responsibility for his actions:

`I made a terrible and foolish mistake that I will regret for the rest of my life,'' Lawton said in a statement that he read over the telephone to The Associated Press. ``I take full responsibility for my actions and did not appeal my suspension. I apologize to the fans, the game, my family and all those I let down. I apeople that m truly sorry and deeply regret my terrible lapse in judgment.''

He's one of the few (only?) that takes direct responsibility for his actions.

Take that, Raffy!!

Were him and Rincon on the Twins at the same time? That'd make me worry about other Twins/former Twins using as well if there's the possibility of a connection b/w teh Rincon positive and the Lawton positive.

I applaud Matty's being an adult and taking responsibility for the decisions he made. I always liked him.

Matt earned respect--not for what he did, but for admitting to and taking responsibility for what he did.

I was really sad to hear this - Matt Lawton is my favorite ex-Twin. At least he's being a man about it, I guess...

See what can happen to a perfectly good Twin when he gets traded to the Evil Empire? Damn Yankees...

Jeff Stone -

I have 9 of your '88 Topps cards. The photo is clear as day in my mind. Would you like to purchase them from me? I tried selling them on Ebay, but unbelievably had no takers.

Please click my name for a synopsis of what is now referred to as simply The Jeff Stone Incident.

Sad news--good for Matt admitting it. I think this case shows that long-term ban for first time users is ridiculous--give him a second chance.

Matty said that he took the 'roids after being traded to the Yankees - so no, there's no connection between him and Juanie. (And no imminent danger of LNP being the next one busted, it would seem...)

Oh, and Boo, I have your book report from your American History class, circa 1982; would you like to buy it? The guys at Antique Roadshow laughed at me...

And today's the guy's birthday too.

Maybe, but if so only briefly--Rincon was a call up in 2001 for a 4 game stint but I think that was late in the season after Matt was already moved to the Mets.

Additionally Lawton tested positive for a hardcore horse steroid, while Rincon tested positive for a steroid precursor--the kind of thing you find in all kinds of OTC supplements. So we're talking about two very different things here.

I'm so glad to hear he's apologizing and taking his lumps.

He only batted .125 for the Yankees. He batted .254 on the year, with 13 home runs. I realize I've used this joke elsewhere, but:

Dude, if it were me, I'd ask for my money back.

Posted by: twink at November 3, 2005 04:10 PM

Is this the first non spanish guy to be busted?

Posted by: Rivasfan at November 3, 2005 09:06 PM

Nope. Ryan Franklin and Jamal Strong of the Mariners are both non-latino players who were suspended early in the season. Overall it is predominantly south american players which lends some credence to the language barrier problems.
