Later on, Iggy, I'll show you what it really means to play "Ozzieball"

Posted by: Kurtis at October 27, 2005 10:04 AM

"Look Ozzie!!! We're on the Kiss Cam!!!"

Who is that anyway? Podsednik?

Posted by: bubblemint at October 27, 2005 10:09 AM

Well they say there is a closeness in the Clubhouse.

Hold me closer, tiny dancer...

Posted by: heraldguy at October 27, 2005 10:18 AM

That's Ozzie and his son

Posted by: Joel at October 27, 2005 10:30 AM

That's one of Ozzie's three kids...
The competition is already over and my vote is for Kurtis, I don't think you can beat that one.

I'm speechless.

Maybe that guy's an ump.

OK, that was mean. Sorry, lol.

Posted by: Stacy at October 27, 2005 11:11 AM

Don't get all excited, that's only a Venezuelian handshake.

(And, for the record, EEEEWWWWWWWWW!)

click my name for "scooter" the (spew!) lovable Fox mascot(?)take on "Why Tim McCarver Still Has a Job" in case you missed it last night.

Posted by: Ovie at October 27, 2005 12:12 PM

Ovie - Thank you for bringing up Scooter. While I agree with the sentiments on McCarver (I'm still trying to figure out Vlad Guerrero's strike zone...) I forgot one moment the other night with Scooter that had my jaw dropped.

Scooter came out to explain a fucking fastball.

I dislike Scooter as much as anyone else that truly enjoys baseball and knows a little about the game, but I also realize not everyone knows what a "change-up" is or what a "curve" is supposed to do and that he's there to educate the less educated fans and kids. But come on, if I were one of them I'd feel pretty insulted by this one. Is Scooter going to explain a single up the middle next? How about an intentional walk? Is a three-part series on a throw to first to check the runner in the future?

My boy, as long as your cheeks and chin are smooth, I shall never
Cease to praise you, not even if I am fated to die.
For you, the giver, it is still honorable, and for me as lover it is not shameful
To ask. But I beseech you, in the name of my parents:
Show me respect, my boy, and grant me favor. If in time to come,
Craving in your turn the gift of the violet-crowned
Cyprian, you shall approach another, then may the gods
Grant that you meet with just such words as I hear now.

Oops, sorry for straying off topic with my last post. Here's a couple captions to try and make up for it:

Orbit gum: For clean, fresh breath, no matter what!

Let's see if Jermaine Dye will let us use the backseat of his MVP-mobile!

Damn that Santana! Ozzie wants some Venezuelan love too!

Posted by: Say Rah! at October 27, 2005 01:31 PM

Ozzie: "Now you can teach me how to play with small balls."

Posted by: metsfan at October 27, 2005 02:16 PM

"Ooohhh. This feels riiiiight!!!"

Posted by: Freez at October 27, 2005 03:01 PM

Ozzie, see to it Konerko comes our way, and Batgirl will insert herself in that pose.

Posted by: insider at October 27, 2005 05:52 PM

Not a caption, but why does eveyone hate McCarver so? Put him in there with Joe Morgan's Straightman Jon Miller, and you've got a great team. Sure, McCarver's an idiot, but an Idiot's OK. Put Joe Morgan in a booth with Joe Buck and you've got a mess. I reserve my searing hot hate for Buck, and I truly hope that the low ratings for this year's great World Series leads Fox to drop the playoffs. I betcha OLN would do a knock-up job.

I want NBC back.

NBC:FOX::Bush:Clinton

Heh.

Posted by: Pander at October 27, 2005 07:46 PM

I would actually say it's quite the opposite, but this isn't the place for that discussion.

Posted by: Mary at October 27, 2005 09:26 PM

Let that be the end of that.

Posted by: Batgirl at October 27, 2005 09:40 PM

I want Costas, Morgan and Uecker back on NBC coverage. Costats is the best baseball man there is. PS. I hate Jon Miller, have you heard him say Guzman?

Posted by: Karl at October 27, 2005 10:36 PM

Yep, that is actually Ozzie's son. They're a little more affectionate than I am with my dad, but then I don't know how I'd react if I just managed a team to victory in the World Series.

Posted by: Troy Rifkin at October 28, 2005 12:43 AM

Why does this picture make me wish for '2005 World Series Champion Bitch Sox hottest chick'?

Come on, who else wants to see Ozzie as a chick?

(oh and about the actual picture, son or not - Ewwww!)

Posted by: SaraJ at October 28, 2005 10:50 AM

How about Vin Scully and Jon Miller on a Saturday game of the week. Right after cartoons so maybe some kids will watch baseball too.

As for the picture... All season long they have said they have a tighter club house. I guess they want everyone to know what great chemistry they have.

Posted by: caluofmn1991 at October 28, 2005 12:46 PM

(cue up the Dirty Dancing soundtrack... "Now I... had... the time of my li-i-ife")

Nobody puts Ozzie in a corner.

Posted by: let's go mets at October 28, 2005 02:02 PM

I'm sorry Batgirl - for this - you know me I'm not a trouble maker - well...maybe but I digress - (wont be ofeended if you need to delete me - and I'm not tying to say that I am better then anyone either - this was just bugging me!)

if Ozzie's son were three and he had kissed him on the mouth would it garner the same eweeeeeeeee reaction???

I don't know maybe it's just me - how come no-one ever says ewwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeee when another guy is slapping another guys ass?!?

WW

Posted by: Wonder Woman at October 28, 2005 09:44 PM

I'm sorry. I thought you were Sulu.

Posted by: Mark at October 28, 2005 10:24 PM

WW has a point there.

By the way at what age does it become ok to smack your teammate on the behind???

It's kind of amazing how by the time these players are adults and millionaires no one looks twice at all the butt slapping going on in pro sports.

Posted by: caluofmn1991 at October 29, 2005 12:25 AM

Personally, I find it a little freaky for parents to kiss their offspring on the lips at ANY age, but that's just how I was brought up. However, I know people do it and there's nothing I can do to change that.

Also, not that they should have to justify themselves to anyone, but it's a non-sexual act, and if two grown men are comfortable enough in their sexualities to smooch on the mouth in public, who are any of us to judge? Are you freaking because it's a man, because it's his grown son, or what? What if it was his daughter?

As for contact with the badonk, contemplate:

pat on the back:pat on the ass::fastball:slider in the dirt

The latter analogues get called "nasty" by some but are nonetheless parts of the game.

Swatting another dude's buttocks as a congratulatory or sympathetic gesture is non-sexual but puritannical values left over from bygone eras make for offended sensibilities.

Posted by: let's go mets at October 29, 2005 07:12 AM

For the record, if my dad managed a team to a world championship, I'd probably dry-hump him on top of home plate.

Hell, when I lived in Atlanta, Ozzie was a Brave and I enjoyed his play and antics so much that I'm considering dry-humping him without ever having met the guy.

Posted by: let's go mets at October 29, 2005 07:14 AM

Dear Mr. Mets,

BG herself is longing for the day when men smooch each other in public all the time and no one cares. But the picture, you see, demands a good caption.

Sincerely,
BG
