Light Blogging Ahead

Batgirl will be gone for a few days seeking treatment for an acute case of post-season depression. Goober will be posting any interesting tidbits while BG is gone, and perhaps asking people for their opinions on various baby names.

Meanwhile, Batgirl would like to ask: Say the players on the Twins 2005 40-man roster played the rest of the Vikings games this football season. Would their record be better, worse, or the same than if the current Vikings roster played those games?

Dear BG-

would that be our 2005 roster? LeCroy, perhaps, might find out he is good on the line. Santana as quarterback--I bet he'd throw real well.

And, not many know less than me about football.

Happy holiday, BG-

If your treatment goes well, would you send along the name of the place that helped? With the playoff results... I may need a referral.

With Chairman at QB, no less than .500

I'm pretty sure the Twins could beat the Bears.

Have a great few days, BG!

BG:
Didn't find you til late in this lost season. I look forward to more sass in the "06 campaign. All this bad football and the all but torpedoed stadium,(thanks fellas)has got me in a bad way.
I have this terrible vision of the Mighty Whities
going all the way, with AJ holding an MVP trophy.
If the weather wasn't so nice this could turn into the Worst, October, ever.

05 Twins could do better then the Vikes. At least they had some defense. More then the Vikes have now, no offense or defense. Well at least there is hockey. Go Wild.

Posted by: Mary at October 17, 2005 04:48 AM

Well, in the tradition of Seinfeld's "Seven" episode, I propose the following gender-neutral baby names for a Twins baby:

Seven, Fifty-seven, Forty-eight, and - for an especially teenie tike - Eight!

Posted by: Mark at October 17, 2005 09:05 AM

Hey, if it helps, hockey is back, and the Wild are fast. Who knew that we would BENEFIT from doing away with the trap and obstruction (for real this time)? Those boys have some jump.

MTRR that the aforementioned hockey team outscored our football team on Sunday.

Posted by: wildchild at October 17, 2005 09:27 AM

Vikings 10, Twins 13. (but the Twins still can't hit)

Better question. If the Vikings played Mike Ditka who would win?

Posted by: Me at October 17, 2005 12:22 PM

Mike Ditka 177, Vikings negative eight.

Ditka!

How about a team of Little Nicky Puntos against a team of mini-Ditkas?

Posted by: franorama at October 17, 2005 01:15 PM

Ditka versus TK in a golf match?

Mini-Puntos 24, Mini-Ditkas 21. A heroic mini-LNP kicks a 53-yarder as time expires. Tiny jubilation ensues.

Is it football season? I thought it was still boating season. I hate when the two overlap.

Posted by: SDave at October 17, 2005 02:31 PM

Happy Vacationing!
As for your Vikings question, it's hard to think that the Twins could do much worse. I say that they should make a go of it and let the Vikings get back to what they know best...boating, drinking and orgies.

I hear the chairman is a mighty good quarterback, and I can see Sweetcheeks as a good receiver, so I say better!

"Santana as quarterback--I bet he'd throw real well."

I realize this was said in jest, but bear with me. I bet you'd be surprised at probably just how bad Santana would be at throwing a football. The first sport I really learned to play was baseball, and as a middle infielder all my life, I learned to throw well from literally every arm angle.

To this day, though, no matter how much I try, I can't throw a football. At least, not well. It's just a different motion than throwing a baseball, and I could never get used to it. Someone like Santana, who has had such repition with the same motion for so many years, I bet it'd be nearly impossible for him to condition his throwing arm to throw something a different way.

Well, I think a Vikings- Twins game would be fairly high scoring, because, as someone mentioned, the Twins can't hit, making defense a skosh difficult...

Posted by: Ryan at October 17, 2005 06:52 PM

I rarely can resist the urge to calculate things with numbers, and this looks like some prime opportunity for some pointless math.

According to the stats, the Twins scored, on average, 4.25 runs per game. The Wild average 3.5 goals per game. Both those teams have the opportunity to score one run/goal at a time. The Vikings 13.4 points per game. The Vikings score a maximum of six points and a minimum of three points at a time (no counting the extra points after touchdowns). Adjusting the scores, at maximum (6 runs per scoring opportunity), the Vikings score 2.233 points per game. At minimum (only field goals), they're at 4.47 points per game.

In short, if the Wild and Twins can manage to score mostly touchdowns, they can do better the Vikings. If they can only manage field goals, we might as well leave the Vikings out there.

I think that they could beat the Bears, maybe the Lions, but I am pretty sure that they would lose to the Packers. I would love to watch that game! Chairman Mauer vs. Brett Favre. Pretty sure that they are my two favorite athletes.

Dear Bat-Girl and the Batlings,

While you discuss football, Baseball is still being played.

And hooray for Baseball at that. Albert Pujols just hit one towards the planet Mars.

Houston, we have a problem.

I think they could bring in a 5-and-under T-Ball team and we'd have a better chance at winning. And they'd need less adult supervision.

Bill Simmons on AJ....

• Yet another question: Is A.J. Pierzynski the most annoying professional athlete in recent memory? He's like the Rick Barry of this generation -- everything he does seems annoying for some reason, even his interviews. You can see why the Giants and Twins couldn't stand him. I don't even think he's a bad guy, he's just one of Those Guys. If you played at a $25 table in Vegas with him, he seems like the guy who would say stuff like "Wow, you're way up right now, huh?" and scream "Whammy!" every time he was dealt a blackjack. And he wouldn't even know he was being annoying, so his friends would think of convoluted ways to ditch him, stuff like, "Hey, A.J., I'm gonna go walk around, get some air, I'll be back in 10 minutes" ... and then they would scurry to another casino. That's A.J., right?

Posted by: mike at October 18, 2005 01:14 PM

Maybe with the Giants, mike. But the Twins grew up with him, and expressed genuine fondness for him. Like the guy who's been saying ridiculous stuff for so long it's funny, some kind of inside joke. At least that's what I'll believe until someone proves me wrong in court or something.

P.S. JustBeth, you rock. Just sayin'.

Did anyone else see Best Damn Sports Show last night? Torii was on and the guys totally stole BG's question!

Posted by: wildchild at October 19, 2005 09:16 AM

So, what'd Torii say?

Posted by: Saajak at October 19, 2005 09:19 AM

I am putting this post here for lack of a better place. There was a thread about congratulation the Bitch Sox, but that no longer accepts posts.

It was discussed in that previous thread here about whether you root for the White Sox or the Angels. This one is on the Sox Talk blog, which is one of the two big ones for the Sox. It's a poll, followed by comments. It asks, who would you rather see in the world series - Twins or Cubs?

http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41728

Take a gander, and look at the comments. Most of the Sox fans seem quite fond of the Twins organization - so much so that they'd overwhelmingly rather see you in the WS than their Chicago brothers.

Posted by: Sox Matt at October 19, 2005 09:32 AM

I saw part of Torii's appearance on Best Damn Sports Show. He was pretty funny, but I got kinda tired of the constant digs about him being in Minnesota, and wouldn't he rather be in Dodger Blue or Yankee pinstripes? Torii was being careful in what he said - basically that he "was born a Twin but was keeping his options open" Then Pete Rose came out and asked him "why are you in Minnesota ? You have to go where the championships are!! " Then made another comment about pinstripes... That's when I turned it off. Enough already. The world does not revolve around New York.

Posted by: Ellen at October 19, 2005 10:10 AM

I think i also saw that sports show, but wasn't able to catch the whole Torii appearance.

Posted by: amber at October 20, 2005 02:28 AM

thanks for the blog address, Sox Matt. They like us, they really like us. And I will say again:
GO SOX! If it can't be my beloved Twins, I hope Chicago beats the Astros in 5.

Hopefully,

kal
